Item Category Difference

dear friwends can any one tel me difference in TAN (Std. Item) and TAS (Third party Item)
Regards
vishal

Hello Vishal,
The system determines vairous item categories during the processing of sales documents depening on the material and sales document type you use.
Depending on the item category group that you apply from the material master record and the sales document type you are processing, the system automatically proposes an item category in the document.
In the standard system, for example, there are standard items (TAN), items that represent services (and do not require delivery processing), and items that represent packaging materials, third party materials (TAS) etc.
TAN represents a standard item that we deliver directly to the customer
TAS represents a third party item i.e. item is delivered directly from the vendor to the customer and finally we bill the customer for the goods delivered to him.

  • Regarding difference between item category TAQ & TAN price relevant in BOM

In Bills Of Materials in MAIN ITEM-- TAQ is price relevant & In SUB ITEM --TAN is price relevant.so what is the difference between them

    Hi Kalpataru,
The settings for TAQ and TAN are the same in standard system. You could check it in VOV7.
Normally we provide two sample standard item category groups for BOM creation.
If you are using item category group ERLA in materail master, then the BOM will be created as following:
    Main Item TAQ (Pricing)
    Sub Item TAE   (no pricing)
And if you using item category group LUMF, then the BOM will be created as following:
    Main item TAP (no pricing)
    Sub Item TAN (Pricing)
    Hope it helps.

  • Exact difference between Item category and Account assignment category

Can anyone plz give the exact difference between account assignment category and Item category
    Thanks inadvance

    Hi,
Account Assignment Category: Key indicating whether an item is to be assigned to an auxiliary account (such as a cost center). The account assignment category determines which account assignment data (e.g. cost center, account number, etc.) is required for the item.
Item category: Identifier indicating the characteristics of an item. The item category determines whether the following are necessary or allowed with regard to an item:
Material number, Additional account assignment, Inventory management in the R/3 System, Goods receipt, Invoice receipt.

  • Difference between Material type and Item category

What is the difference between Material type and Item category?
We can differentiate different kind of materails according to material type then why do we have Item category which is also more or less on the same lines.
Both can be considered as a terminology in SAP to group similar kind of materials.
Please let me know the exact difference between the two?

    Dear Christino
We can list out so many differences.
When you create a material master record, the material type you choose determines:
    - Whether the material is intended for a specific purpose, for example, as a configurable material or process material
    - Whether the material number can be assigned internally or externally
    - The number range from which the material number is taken
    - Which screens appear and in what sequence
    - Which departmental data you may enter
    - What procurement type the material has; that is, whether it is manufactured in-house or procured externally, or both
Together with the plant, the material type determines the material's inventory management requirement; that is:
    - Whether changes in quantity are updated in the material master record
    - Whether changes in value are also updated in the stock accounts in financial accounting
In addition, the accounts affected by a material entering or leaving the warehouse depend on the material type.
-Most importantly, Users can be authorized to create materials of specific material types but not based on item category
    - Item category will define whether the material should be valuated for stock or it should be considered as non-stock
    - Pricing is carried out based on Item Category and not based on Material type

  • Return of Free goods item - Problem in item category

I am trying to create return order of Free sample billing
(ZFDP). The return order type for the free sample is ZFDR.
We have specified Item category for the ZFDR is RENN (Free good item) in IMG Activity -> Assign Item categories.
When I create order and save it, it prompts me to enter G/L Account.
This material is free. It should not prompt G/L Account for it. There is no revenue recognition specified for the item category. I tried changing item category to ZKLN i.e Free of charge item. This item category does not prompt for G/L Account while creating order. but I can not use this item category because it prompts me for Avialability. I can not remove the Avaialabilty check for it because the same item category is used in the Free sample order where availability check is required
In ZFDP order type, we are issuing 100% discount by using R100
discount condition.  Please let me know how can I solve this problem.
I think there is some problem in my item category itself. .
My setting for Item category in IMG - Define item category is
same for both ZKLN and RENN. Only difference is RENN has returns
tick and pricing field is blank. In ZKLN pricing is defined as B- 100%
discount. I also tried changing the pricing option of RENN to B.
But still it is asking for G/L Account.
I can not use ZKLN instead of RENN because my ZKLN is used in the
    Free item Sales order.
    Please help.

    Hi
I got answer to my query. YOu need to specify the bill type while defining sales document type. This bill type should not have account assignment mentioned in it.
I changed the bill type, which does not have Account assignment procedure attached to it.
    It has solved my problem

  • Credit Check while creation of Sales Order for Item Category Purchase Req

    Hi Experts,
We are creating Sales Order using an Order Type ABCD for a material 1000. While creating Sales Order, we use Item categories (ZOVD, ZOVB,ZOST,ZOVP and ZOBO).
Credit Check settings are there at Order Type ABCD as well as all the Item Categories (ZOVD, ZOVB,ZOST,ZOVP and ZOBO). We are trying to test a scenario where a customer does not have enough credit limit while creating a sales order.
When we create a sales order for Item Categories (ZOVD, ZOVB,ZOST,ZOVP), credit check fails because our customer does not have enough credit limit, so that Sales Order gets created and Delivery does not get created (This is what we want), then we go into VKM1 manually and relase the sales order and then if we go to VA02 and check the status of the Sales Order, it says sales order status is complete. My Sales Team is saying here also Purchase Requisition is getting created.
When we create a sales order for Item category ZOBO, it is going into Purchase Requisition screen. Once we give another plant in the create purchase requisition screen and save it we are getting a message that cannot create Purchase Requisiton because of Credit Block.
The settings were same for all the Item categories.
    1) What made difference to complete Purchase Requisition for Item Categories (ZOVD, ZOVB,ZOST,ZOVP) and not for Item Category ZOBO when my customer is not having enough credit Limit.
    2) Why Purchase Requisition screen is not coming for us when we create an Sales Order for Item Categories (ZOVD, ZOVB,ZOST,ZOVP). We only get Create Purchase Requisiton Screen for Item Category ZOBO.
    Thanks

    Hi,

  • Item Category determination while copying

    Hello Guys,
What is the difference between Normal Item Category determination and Item category determination while copying? What could be the business logic behind this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Ravi

I would maintain the entires to confirm what item categories could be copied from a quote AGIS to an TA order.
Normally a TA NORM drives to a TAN.  If yo change the quote from a AGN to ZAG, you may want the order to drive to a TAS dropship ship.  Just gives you more flexibiilty without any coding.

  • Missing Item Category Group data in Material SD data in CRM

    Hi crm experts,
Please help us. We are trying to identify what's the rootcause of the problem we experienced in CRM regarding the Item category group. We are maintaining material master in ECC and it will be replicated in CRM via middleware. The data item category group is properly maintained in ECC but when we checked in CRM, only 3 of the sales areas have it.
    Sales Area 1 - YES
    Sales Area 2 - NO
    Sales Area 3 - YES
    Sales Area 4 - YES
So we will do a request load for the data to show also on Sales Area 2.
Item category group were maintained in the ff tables:
    ECC table TPTM
    CRM table CRMV_ITEM_CAT_GR
Can you please let us know how we can pin point this problem so that this will not happen again? We want to apply a permanent solution if there is. Hoping for your kind assistance. Thanks!
    Best regards,

    hi
    General item category group
Materials grouping that helps the system to determine item categories during sales document processing.
*If a group is configured specific to distribution channel, it has priority if the corresponding activity is distribution channel-dependent
Item category group from material master
A grouping of materials that the system uses to determine item categories during the processing of sales documents.
the difference between the two lies in the specificity to the distribution channel

  • Suppresing Delivery note prints for certain sales order types/item category

    Hi
I need to find a way of suppressing some delivery notes from being printed.
Relating to orders for consignment fill up and consignment issue.
The delivery notes are needed to be printed for 'Consignment fill up order' type, BUT not for Consignment issue - as this is confusing some of the warehouse staff at month end.
All have the same delivery type, the only difference i can see is the item category types are different
Is there a way i can use the sales order type, with customer number as an access sequence for the Output type ?
    -  Or the Item category type ?
Is it possible to add sales order type or Item category into the FIELD CATALOG :- output for deliveries
Your help would be much appreciated
    Cheers
    Tony

    Hi,
I can suggest you something, but do remember that I've never done such kind of thing till date.
    >> Copy LF and create new delivery type
    >> Assign this to your consignment doc. types
    >> Kindly remove the Header output determination procedure assigned to this new delivery type
    >> Then assign output det. procedure at Item level {according to Item category}
    >> Then check if will cater to your requirment or not.
Please keep one thing in mind that I am giving you a proposal by thinking in one logical way and I can't confirm the practicality of the proposal.

  • " Item Category Group" in the material master?

    Hi,
I'm going to use inbound delivery for purchase order, so I'm going to do it as follows:
    1) Create a new "item category group Y001"
    2) Create a new "item category Y001  (copy from ELN then change the movement type to 101, and set it relevant to putaway)",
    3) Replace the item category group in the material master with Y001
    4) Determine the item category via transaction 0184 as the following ways:
         "Delivery Type"  EL    +
"Item Category Group From Material Master" Y001    +
         "Item Usage"  V     +
'Item Category Of The Higher-Level  Item"
==>  "Determine New Delivery Item Category" Y001
My question is, If I change the item category group in the material master, is there any effect to SD part?
    Thanks.

  • Item category in new GL

    Hi,
Can anyone please clarify what the item category does in case of new GL accounting.
Suppose we have various item categories 20000, 30000,01000. What is the fucntion of each item category.
Suppose for revenue account, if I assign item category 20000(expense) what is the impact. Suppose for balance sheet accounts if I assign 30000(revenue), what is the impact.
    Please let me know.
    Thanks
    Aravind

The item category characterizes the items of an accounting document.
The item category is derived from the account type and is required for document splitting.
    Examples:
    Customer
    Vendor
    Asset
    Cash discount clearing
    Exchange rate difference
You need to classify the individual document items so that the system knows how to handle them. You do this by assigning them to an item category. The item category is determined by the account number and against each category, you need to assign the appropriate accounts.

  • Want a particular item category line item not to print on form

    HI!
We would like our smartform for invoice not to print the line item when that item category is "ZABC". I can easily do that by hard coding in the form mentioning when item category is 'ZABC' not to print it instead I was looking for a way using the configuration flag to  show whether a line item should show on the form or not . Is theer a way I can do it by this method instead of going staraight by hardcoding the item category? Is theer a way on the configuration side which I can use to indicate the line item with item category 'ZABC' not to print onto the form?
KIndly indicate of it cane be done and how.
    Thanks

    Hi Aarav,
Item category details are in table TVAP. For billable item category the Carry out pricing  indicator (Field PRSFD) will be checked (X) and for free item category the field is blank. Check the table entry for both free and valuated item category and there you will find the difference in the table entries.
So based on the data in TVAP you can set the condition in Form for displaying the line item.

    Shakeel.

  • Credit Note for Item Category ERLA

    Hi,
We have a scenario wherein a Customer is to be issued a Credit Note for Price Difference. The material has Item Category ERLA. Excise Duties & VAT is also there. Kindly suggest a solution on this.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Khushal Agrawal

    Hello Petr Verner,
It's a standard functionality of Business one, that it is impossible to enter a negative amount in an independant credit note or in a credit note based on a invoice with negative amount.
    To solve this issue:
    1.  For the rows with the positive Row Total, create an "independent" Credit Memo (not based on an Invoice).
    2.  For the rows with the negative Row Total, create another Invoice with a positive Row Total opposite to the original negative Row, and reconcile between the two rows manually via Banking => Bank Statements and Reconciliations => Reconciliation.
    Hope the above helps.

  • Use of Item Category Group

    Hello All
can any one explain the functional use of Item category group maintained in CRM material master under basic data tab and also under sales and distribution tab.
what is the difference between two views and what happens if dont have value at Sales and distribution level.
    Regards
    Phani

    Hi Phani,
    1. Item category Group is just a key which comes from the Product master and helps in the item category determination.
Item category group in the Material Tab, is a general Item category Group valid for all sales areas.
Whereas the one maintained in the Sales and distribution tab becomes specific to that particular sales area.
For eg: To a Product HT-1011 u have assigned two sales areas say A and B
In the Material tab, we assign item category group NORM
In the Sales and Distribution tab, for sales area A , we assign item category group ZORM.
In the item category determination the following settings are maintained:
    Assumption transaction type is TA.
    Transaction Type: TA
    Item category Group : NORM
    Item category: TAN
    Transaction Type: TA
    Item category Group : ZORM
    Item category: TANN
Now in the sales order if u enter product HT-1011 and choose sales area A, TANN will get determined, if u choose B TAN will get determined.
It is not mandatory to put the item category group. It onlu helps in the item category determination. In case u have not assigned any item category group, it will look for a item category dtermination entry something like:
    Transaction Type: TA
    Item category Group :
    Item category: TAN
    Wish this helps.
