ITouch issues...

Hey --
I understand that there is a reason Apple doesn't allow for the transfer of songs from the ipod onto a computer... But this is a legit issue & not for music sharing - this is my own music, photos, and videos. Anyway, on to the problem.
I have a 16GB iTouch (I got it when they first came out) and it is currently all updated with the newest software etc. In December I bought a 24" iMac & it is 100% up to date with its software. All of my music used to be on a macbook pro, but I have a time capsule so I transferred all of the files on to there.
So today I moved into a new flat, got the internet hooked up and tried to wirelessly connect the TC to the imac, it didn't work. I got the ethernet cable to hook them up together & I discovered that all of my music was not there I tried to plug in my ipod & was hoping to use a program like PodView BUT I then realized that my ipod is only showing up in itunes. It's not on the desktop or anywhere else in the HD :\
That means (to me) that right now all of my music is located on the itouch... The only way for me to remedy the problem of my ipod not being visible is to restore it to the factory settings. If I do that then I lose all my music.
Also, I tried the jailbreak the itouch but the programs I've tried so far have said that the firmware is not supported.
I'm really bummed out, I have 60GB of music on my ipod and I would really like to have it on my imac so I can continue to expand my library. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Liz

Ohh... So it's supposed to not show up anywhere? The itouch only shows up in itunes.
Unfortunately I don't have my macbook pro any longer I was so sure that when I wiped it clean I moved everything onto the time capsule, everything EXCEPT the music is on there.
I saw some commercial software, I really wish I didn't have to pay $30 to transfer my own music off of my own ipod onto my own computer... I have podview, maybe I've done something wrong with it? I opened it up, and selected import but nothing shows up.
Is there some trick to it?
Thanks for your input guys, it's amazing how something so little like an ipod can get you into semi-breakdown mode haha!

  • Itouch issue on laptop

    Hello there.
I have an itouch 1st generation 3.1.3 firmware. My version of itunes is the most recent 9.1.0 64-bit. I've had this itouch forever, got it when the 32 gig's first came out. I've sync'd it with my previous desktop forever as well.
3 weeks ago, I moved onto a laptop, and into South Korea as well. Brought all my music on a hard drive.
    Now the issue:
Since using the laptop I cannot use it to sync my music. I've very literally done everything. Reset the itouch to factory, reset all of it to barebones, the 2 hour reset. Uninstalled/reinstalled itunes MANY times. I've tried deauthorizing, reauthorizing. Signed into my itunes account, signed out of it.
I cannot put anything on my iTouch. By dragging and dropping from outisde itunes, to music that is in my itunes library. This problem is very frustrating.
Yes, I have checked sync my music manually!
    Please help, if it's possible.
    Derek

    Welcome to the discussions,
did you consolidate your iTunes library to make sure, that all music is available on your laptop? http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/9.0/en/15329.html
Can you sync music when you deselect the "manual manage music" option?

  • ITouch mail won't work on my home network, works everywhere else.

My 2nd generation itouch's email won't work on my home network. I get a message that says something like "Unable to connect to Pop3 server." It works on other people's home networks, public networks, etc. Just not mine. I'm guessing my router / modem has a setting somewhere that is the problem. Verizon won't help me because it's a device problem, not an internet problem (their opinion). I have read all of the posts on the forum about this mail issue, but since it works everywhere else, I don't think it's an itouch issue. It's a Verizon Westell modem. thanks for any help.

I have had the same problem and just solved it. My home wireless is with ATT and they told me they have been receiving a lot of problems with users suddenly unable to gain access to wi-fi in their home. When we checked my wireless home connection the I.P address on my ITouch was incorrect. The prior IP address was not correct and 'somehow' got corrupted...no one knows how that happened. My cust service rep was excellent and walked me through renaming my wireless hardware as well as changing my channel - and it worked. we changed the name of my wireless modem/router, then changed the channel...to a different number than it was. You are correct in that the problem is with home service. my rep actually took me to an ip address ---numbers not a www address where we made the changes- I hope this helped. If I can be of assistance please let me know.

  • IPod Touch connection with Vista

My iPod touch is not recognized by Windows Vista. On the same computer the iPod video works well. I have the newest version of iTunes 4.7, which should have the driver included, but Vista keeps looking for the driver.
    Any suggestions?

Just wanted to add one more solution to using iTouch with 32 bit version of Windows Vista as I spent the last 72 hours trying to get my daughter's iTouch to work with a new Dell Inspiron (w/ Vista Home). I tried disabling/uninstalling and reinstalling from the Device Manager as noted in previous posts in this thread. Was almost ready to throw in the towel when I did one last search for alternate solutions and found the following instructions to reinstall the drivers, but to instead of having the system look to the c:\Windows\inf or c:\windows\system 32 folders for the drivers, the path is changed to c:\program files\common files\Apple\Apple Mobile Support\Drivers, which is apparently where Vista installs the drivers to. Once I changed the path the driver properly reflected the iTouch as a USB device, and not a digital camera. Hope this helps anyone else who is having the same issue.
    Try these steps:
    1. Log in using an ADMINISTRATIVE account
    2. Verify you have the following files usbaapl.cat, usbaapl.inf & usbaapl.sys in the following directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers"
    3. Single left click on START
    4. Single left click on RUN
    5. Type in " devmgmt.msc " then hit Enter (Don't type in the quotes)
    6. Look for Imaging in the Device Manager window, and click on plus sign (In Vista you may not see the "Imaging" option. Look under "Portable Devices" as an alternative)
    7. Now you should see " Apple iPod " as a device underneath Imaging (or Portable Devices)
    8. Right click on " Apple iPod " then single left click on Properties
    9. Single left click on the " Driver " tab
    10. Single left click on " Update driver "
    11. Select " Install from a list or specific location "
    12. Single left click on " Include this location in the search "
    13. Paste " C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers " (Don't type in the quotes) into the box below " Include this location in the
    search "
    14. Single left click next and keep clicking through until " Apple iPod USB Driver " is detected.
    15. Start up iTunes, and see if you iPod is detected again.
For anyone trying to copy over their music from the iTouch to a new PC running Vista, I used TouchCopy (http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/). Once I got the iTouch to be seen by iTunes you close iTunes, install TouchCopy and then start the program, it will then look for your iTouch and once you connect it it's a snap to copy the music to your iTunes library.
Hope this helps anyone with sames Vista/iTouch issues. Good Luck!

  • Why do I have to keep entering in my Apple ID login when opening music?

When I open my music app ( the apple music app) on my phone, it keeps asking me to enter in my Apple ID password. It's not an incorrect password. And it happens every time I open it. I opened my setting for iTunes and it has my Apple ID username and password logged in mad home sharing is On. It did not do this until I had to switch to a new phone due to itouch issues.

This same exact thing started happening to me a few days ago.
Every time I open the iPod app - I'm prompted for User/Password.  I even changed my password, thinking I forgot it, and still - insists that I enter this information.  If i hit OK or Cancel it just keeps asking like a never ending loop.
Eventually, when I do fill out the info, it will go away until I re-open the iPod app.  This is more of an annoyance than a real issue - but if it's a bug, I hope it gets resolved.
Any support in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

  • 2 issues: Some songs skip won't play 2nd issue: itouch will not open itunes

    1. Some songs that played well when they were initially added to my ipod itouch, suddenly stopped playing and are skipping to the following songs. How can I fix this?
    2. My ipod touch (which is the 1st generation) after updating it to version 3.1.3 will not sync with my itunes. This was after a 2 month struggle to open my itunes (which refused to open at all until I disabled the bonjour serice) now I got the itunes back, I cannot sync it with my itouch because I disabled the bonjour service, if I enable it, my itunes would not open! Any advice.
Oh 1 more issue, does the updated itouch 1st gen support apps with microphone required apps! I bought a couple of apps that required an enabled mic headset to be plugged in, in order to work, I tried many headsets with mics all different brands with no luck. Will it ever work or should I quit trying?

  • Issues with iCloud synchronisation and contacts over two or more devices.  iTouch and iPad2 sync with different results from iMac.  Thoughts?

Has any one experienced issues with iCloud synchronisation and contacts over two or more devices? The primary machine is an iMac running Lion. Address Book was created from vcf file (backup of address book prior to moving to iCloud). iTouch replicates Contacts just fine and matches the Address Book on the iMac. The iPad 2 does not showing only 123 contacts where there should be 200. I have turned off iCloud on both devices thus erasing the iCloud content of both devices and staring from scratch with both devices with identical results. Even turned off iCloud on the iMac and erased the Address Book and rebuilt with the same results. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I am going nuts.....

    To follow-up with this issue:
I ended up performing a security wipe on my device. The security wipe finished, and I was about to reconnect with Exchange when I decided to visit our host's web site to see if they had any articles covering the issues I was experiencing. While they didn't have anything specific, I did find a step-by-step guide to connecting a BB10 device to Exchange... and right there at the end, it said "Do NOT enable memo sync."
I contacted support, and the rep told me that OS 10 has an issue with memo sync and it can cause all sorts of unpredictable behavior. Now, whether or not this is accurate I can say this: So far, the device is not disconnecting and reconnecting like it was before. Problem is, is this a result of not enabling memo sync, or is this a result of the security wipe?
I may have overlooked it, but I don't recall reading anything about that anywhere else. I'm tempted to try re-enabling the memo sync to see if everything blows up again. At least that way I can see for myself if the memo sync is a real issue. Of course, perhaps it's an issue with SherWeb (our host) specifically. Hm...
Anyway, for those that were interested, and for those that may come along in the future with a similar situation, the strange behavior that I first reported is no longer happening. I just don't know if it was a result of a security wipe or a result of not enabling memo sync with Exchange.

  • Syncing issues with Calendar - ITouch

I am using 8GB Itouch, running on Software 2.2 and ITunes 8.0.2.20.
In the past anytime that I sync my information it would update contacts & calendar at the same time. Right now it would act as though it is syncing but it does not show the updated information on my touch. Can anyone help or guide me in the right direction of what to do?

There is apparently (according to our IT department) a known issue with Exchange calendar syncing, where the meeting status (and sometimes presence) is affected by how the meeting is accepted (on the iPhone vs. in Outlook vs. in Outlook by someone else with admin rights on your calendar). Reportedly, Apple is working on a fix.

  • HT1386 iTouch/iTunes sync issue

My iTouch is (all of a sudden) not able to connect with iTunes (PC) with a USB connection.  The PC doesn't appear to recognize/acknowledge it.  No reason to believe there's any software corruption or hardware damage...my iPhone continues to connect/sync with issue.  Any idea what may be causing this or how to resolve?

  • Scrubbing issue audiobook itouch

It seems that with my 1st gen iTouch, and my 80gb iPod classic, that during audiobooks I get a very weird issue.
I can not scrub (fast forward) during certain tracks and it seems to be actually spreading.  I never had this problem before and seem to start with the new updates to iTunes.
Here is what happens.  I am listening to the Harry Potter books.  I have to pause it when I get to work.  When i start it up it remembers the position but can not play from that position.  It either skips to the next chapter, or sometimes two or three chapters ahead, or goes back to the beginning giving me the wrong time. So I go to the chapter that I was on and when I try to scrub it either starts the chapter over or skips to the next chapter as well.
I have tried restoring the iPods and reinstalling the audiobooks, but still the same problem.  I have set it to remember playing position but that increases the problem.  I have looked through settings on the iPod and iTunes and I can not find anything either.
The audiobooks are in MP3 format and I am changing them to AAC format.  But that can take a VERY long time.  I am looking to listen to some Star Wars books and Tolkien books and not looking forward to having to convert them.
Is this a common problem?  Has anyone found a fix?  Will this be fixed in an update?  or are there not going to be new updates for 1st Gen iTouch?
    Cheers in Advance

  • Wireless connectivity issue between MacBook Pro/ iTouch and Airport Express

I'm creating a wireless network at home using my airport express and depending on the configuration settings I set in the airport utility, I will face the following issues:
1- To connect my MacBook Pro to the wireless network created, I have to set the radio mode to 802.11n only (5 GHz). Any other radio mode (a/b/g compatible or n only (2.4 GHz)) will not work ("Couldn't find the network")
2- Conversely, the use of the radio mode 802.11n only (5 GHz) with my iTouch doesn't work ("Couldn't find the network"). To connect my iTouch to the wireless network created, I have to set the radio mode to 802.11a/b/g compatible or to n only (2.4 GHz)
As a result, I manage to 1) either connect to a wireless network created with my airport express with my MacBook Pro only 2) or with my iTouch only, depending on the configuration setup.
I'm using the latest updates for the airport utility (7.4.2), iTouch (3.1.3) and Mac OSX (10.6.4).
    Any help on this?

if you set it to the most compatible with the least common denominator you should be able to connect with both. (If that's what I understand you are trying to achieve).

  • I have bought an 8GB 4G iTouch, it has maximum volume issue

My 8GB iPod Touch is having very low maximum volume. I have checked the maximum level setting it is set to max. When I drag the volume bar to half, volume goes very faint. I have compared with with my friends iPod, it seems like mine really have some issue. Same song was played on both the pods, friends maximum volume was around 40% more. Only difference was, friend's 64gb pod was bought in US and I bought it in India. Is there different manufacturing norms followed for different countries.
When I went to the reseller, to talk about the issue. He played all the pods on display at the store, all were having same volume levels. It was a surprise. Please let me know, is it a defect? Has someone also encounter the same issue?

Is there any technical specification that supports this. I have searched every corner on apple.com for itouch, didnt get any update what you have said.
I don't think you will find anything from Apple referring specifically to the EU limit, I never have. But there have been plenty of posts on this forum, in the past three years, concerning this subject. It is not unique to Apple; all MP3 players now sold within the European Union have their maximum volume capped, I believe at 85 decibels. You will find news articles on the BBC and other UK sites, from the end of 2009.
However, like all EU legislation, we receive all the information about it second-hand, none of us mere citizens get to read these EU rules for oursleves. Our news media tells us.
You will simply have to have faith that what I have said about the EU maximum volume limit is fact. It's what I have to do. I can understand your reluctance to accept my word on this, I too have read the post to you, from the person whose answer to everything is to restore the ipod. Actually, even funnier was his suggestion that all you had to do was turn the iPod off for two minutes. Now that was funny!
What's more relevant to you is that you ask your supplier if there is any chance that your iPod came from the European Union Market. If necessary, put them on the spot by explaining that you know the difference between an EU iPod and a non-EU iPod. (You do, I've explained it.)
We haven't established beyond doubt that this is the cause of your problem. But if you do have an EU iPod, then it will have a lower maximum volume than an iPod destined for the USA.
One solution to your problem is to use a headphone amplifier, inline between the iPod and your headphones. Search the internet for "portable headphone amps", "CMoy amp", or "Altoid Amp". (Many of the Cmoy amps have been built into Altoid mints tins.) They run on a 9volt battery. I use one.
If you do start using a headphone amplifier, just remember why the rules were introduced here in the EU - to prevent hearing loss due to excessive volume.

  • IMac/iTouch E-Mail issues

I just switched from PC to Mac and I'm having a few glitches.  It seems that my iTouch and my iMac are interfering with each other regarding e-mails.  My iMac won't receive e-mails until hours after they've been sent if my iTouch is nearby.  Any help?
    Thanks!

@D55R33WW - The previous client was able to correct this by adjusting the send/recieve frequency within Outlook and in your case within MacMail.
    More details...
If there are too many pop connections at once on the account then it will keep other connections from accessing the account and you will receive that error message.
What I would recommend here is that your customer adjust the frequency (10 mins or more) that their email client checks the mailbox.
To clarify a bit further, the system can handle the frequent pop connections, but sometimes the email clients fail to close their first connection correctly which leaves it idle on our system for some time.
Then when they try to connect again they encounter errors because there are already connections for that account.

  • Appstore Connection Issue - IPAD, IPhone & ITouch

    Hi,
I am facing frustrating issue where all my IPhone, IPad and ITouch are not able to connect to Apple Appstore properly. I cannot browse and download applications from Appstore. I have no problem browsing web and downloading emails etc. It seems to be an intermittent problem but most of the times it is not working (top left loading icon keeps running with no respond) ! I have verified that it is an issue with my ASUS Wifi Router as I have tested it with 3 devices and they work perfectly when I am using another router or at another Wifi Hotspot.
After contacting ASUS, they have asked me to setup "Port Forwarding" for my router. I found the port information on Apple Website and have added:
    iTunes Store 443 192.168.1.2 TCP
iTunes Music Sharing 3689 192.168.1.2 TCP
ITunes Radio Stream 8000:8999 192.168.1.2 TCP
ITunes Radio Stream 42000:42999 192.168.1.2 TCP
However, it is still not working! Anybody can help here? Appreciate your help! Many thanks.

Got it.  Here's what I learned thanks to some of your contributions.
IOS devices do not pair like an iOS device would pair to an external bluetooth device.  That explains why each did not show up in the other's list of bluetooth devices.
You can use bluetooth to connect iOS devices for a keynote presentation as described here
Using Keynote Remote - Apple Support
Make sure bluetooth is turned on for both devices.
The key is to first actually opening a presentation in keynote on the iPad.  I was trying this without actually opening a presentation.  When presenting from the mac with the iPhone as remote I did not have to open an presentation, I could simply add a device by clicking on the iPhone icon with the small play icon (between the + and share icons on the left).  Because it worked for the mac I assumed it would be the same for the iPad.  It's not.
tap on the wrench icon on the top right and then selecting "Presentation tools" from the drop down and then selecting "Allow Remote Control.
Your other iOS device, in this case my iPhone, should be in a drop down with a "link" next to it.  Click on "link" and that should be it.
it works. Now all I need are the adaptor cables to get from my iPad to a projector and I should be good to go.  Thanks much.

  • Iphone, Itouch & Imessaging- Security issue

Heres my issue. My son had an Itouch. I then got him an Iphone, which in time caused me to repo the itouch. The itouch & the iphone get all his i messages (which is fine for me). Occasionally on the itouch I will turn off the imeessage for his number on the iphone, & when I turn it back on he gets a message on his iphone saying "dads itouch enabled", or something like that, & his phone can either accept it or not. However, I cannot find ANYWHERE, whether it be on his phone or his account saying that "Dads Itouch" is getting his imessages. Surely to god there should be somewhere he could look on his phone or his apple account that he could tell "dads itouch" is getting his imessages.
    Is there anywhere?

I just would expect the developers to have been smart enough to have designed a phone/system so that a user could see what devices are enabled for that number.
I can't see what devices I have logged into my Gmail account, either. There's nothing wrong with what you're asking. It's just not always the way things are done.
