Itouch Shakes

HI - and thanks for any assistance out there.
I have an ancient 1st gen iTouch. I didn't know that the first gen has the shake and shuffle feature - which I DO NOT like. I didn't think it had this feature on the initial iTouch.
I like to listen to podcasts but if I twist or shake it inadvertently it shifts to another podcast in the library. Is there a way to prevent that from happening? I don't see a way to do it in the iTouch settings.
I'm thinking of getting a new iTouch - advantages voice recorder, external speaker, external volume control and apparently you can shut off shake and shuffle. Does the new iTouch also have an external control letting you advance or go back in time increments ( shifting a minute ahead or a minute back for example - very nice for podcasts ) ?
I use my iTouch a lot outdoors - walking jogging - and external controls are lot better than stopping and getting the iTouch focused to the right screen to slide the bar back and forth to access a certain time segment in a podcast - not to mention the sun glare on the screen when navigating on the touch screen outdoors.
If there are other mp3 players better suited to podcasts ( with a voice recorder and external speaker ) and works with iTunes ? I'd appreciate your suggestions.

Settings / iPod / Turn off Shake to Shuffle.
I don't podcast much, so I don't know if there's a better device for them.

Can't Turn Of "shake to shuffle"!!!! iTouch 2G iOS 4.2.1

I feel I have a very unique problem, I can't turn off the Shake to Shuffle mode (I'm going to call it S2S.) Before you say it, I know HOW to turn it off, but it won't actually let me. Actually, I can't change any of the settings in the "music" tab under settings. I change it and play around with other settings, then check back before exiting the settings app and it's the way I set it up. However, after I exit out of the settings and then immediately go back in, everything under the "music" tab is set back to default.
I've tried everything short of a full restore, simply because I JUST put my music on and I don't wanna go through that again! lol I've done the power+home button reset several times and tried to see if there were software updates, etc. Nothings worked!
Usually wouldn't be a big deal, but it always shuffles during my favorite songs. Also, the music player has been randomly stopping in the middle of a song. Not pausing, but stopping, as in there is no "now playing" but it happens on something like song 50 out of 1500, so its not like it was the end of the album...
Any help for either problem?

How to turn off screen rotation on itouch 5

I just upgraded to a 32 bit iTouch 5 and was wanting to know how to turn off the screen rotation when I'm playing music. I have the shake to shuffle off (great feature!) but would like to turn off the screen rotation. I just find that to be annoying (to me anyway)...how do I do this on the 5?

Pull up the Control Center and lock the screen rotation. Tap the arrowed-circled padlock on the right side to toggle

When itouch is moved, it makes a jingle noise and moves to a random song. Makes it impossible to use during exercize. Anything I can do?

While listening to music on itouch, if it is moved other than very gently, it makes a ringing - jingle noise and goes to a random song. This makes it impossible to use during any kind of exercize. I tried restoring my itouch, and am having the same problem. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks!

Go to Settings>Music and turn off 'Shake to Shuffle'.

ITouch jumps and skips to other podcasts while playing

I had this problem with a 2nd gen iTouch and now again with the latest model.
You pay $500 for an iTouch, and it shouldn't just bleep out on you while listening to an mp3 podcast - and it jumps to some other podcast on the list.
I know about the Shake factor - and I have it set to OFF, but it still does it.
Then I have to go back and find where I left off in the podcast I was listening to. I haven't had the problem with music lists that I recall, but have had the problem with Car Talk podcasts and others. I also have shuffle turned OFF.
I wish there was a way to just do away with the whole Shake feature. It's dumb.
Any suggestions please and has anyone had their iTouch just flip out and jump to some other program on their list ?

Song playback out of proper sequence (iTouch)

Hi all, I have a 32gb iTouch crammed with 500+ albums which I ripped from the CDs for use on previous mp3 players as well as albums I have imported via iTunes. The problem I have is that when playing some (most) of the albums, the iTouch doesn't stick to the order they were ripped in (and the order displayed on the iTouch and in iTunes). I don't have shuffle turned on, I've turned off "shake to shuffle" and can't get to the bottom of it. I go into the album, touch track one and it starts to play, but after it will skip to track 3, 12, 7, whatever - anything apart from the proper order. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

GOT IT! God, I've been so dull! The shuffle was stuck on after all! I didn't realise it was highlighted on the playback screen. **** rookie....

hi philly, thanks for getting back to me, especially on such a busy day.
I don't think that's quite the issue though. I bought an album and it appears in 'my purchases' within the itunes app. Yet, in order to listen to the music, i must use the 'music' app and in this application, there are only three tracks displayed at any one time from my downloaded album.
I can 'download all' from the 'my purchases' section but that still doesn't help, it just keeps the last three tracks downloaded in the music app.
I have the 'icloud' enabled and wondered if it had anything to do with that.
i have successfully downloaded another full album totally into the music app, but this first album is causing me problems.

We've been using the same Apple Id in the family. Can I change the ID so each person has their own so we don't end up with each other's data? How would I do that without losing what is on the Itouch now?

My family has the same Apple ID, which is a problem when we don't have the same data on our products. Can we have separate Apple IDs for each person? If so, how can we change it and not lose what we currently have stored on our Ipod Touch/Ipod/Iphone? I just restored my son'e Itouch and it has Cloud. Will he delete my husband's contacts (from his Iphone) if my son deletes contacts on the Ipod Touch?

ITouch Firmware Upgrade - Can no longer connect to car audio system

I just upgraded to 3.1.1 last night on my iTouch and can no loger plug in and connect to the audio system on my Infiniti G35x. The iTouch shows that it is connected by the audio system shows that it isn't. I've checked the cables, etc and all is fine and can connect another iPod without any issues. Thoughts...?

This is a known issue that started with the 3.0 release, and it affects several auto manufacturers. I was hoping that 3.1.1 would fix this for my Honda, but no dice. Something changed either in the communication protocol or timing, but whose fault it is seems to depend on how many Apple products you own
You can step back down to the 2.x firmware ... search around for "DFU mode", I did it once and may do it again now that 3.1.1 doesn't solve this.

Can no longer connect to internet on my iTouch

I have had my iTouch for just over a year and had no problems connecting to the internet at home and elsewhere. I had to purchase a new router recently and now my Touch no longer connects. It finds the network with no problem but when I enter my password it still says "unable to join the network..." It works everywhere else just fine and my laptop at home connects to my wi-fi with no problem as well. I have tried to input my network under "Other networks" with no success either. My settings and password are the same as before but it still won't connect. Has anyone else had this problem and any ideas on how to fix it? I went to the Apple store and they said they had no idea why it no longer connects. Thanks for any help you can send me.

Are you running WEP encryption? Chances are the new router interprets your password in a form that the touch can't deal with. You can either using the hex code in place of the password you created or reset your encryption to WPA2-psk and create a new 10-12 character password.
If you don't want to change encryption, you can reconfigure your WEP passwords - 5 characters only with 48bit or 13 characters only with 128 bit.

Error message when connecting iTouch (after Windows 7 update)

I first had a Windows 7 (998 error) and uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes a couple times until I got it up and running along with QuickTime working as well.
When I go to try and sync my iTouch it is saying "This iPod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes." I have actually done this twice and it is still not working.
Please help!! I would really like to use my iPod again.

This solution allowed the itouch to communicate with itunes and then instantly recognised that it needed to be updated to software version 4.1. All's good so thanks for this

Mac no longer sees 2G iTouch

After syncing fine for months, my Mac Mini last week reported an "unknown" error after trying to sync with my 2G iTouch. Then it suddenly stopped detecting the iTouch altogehter. The facts are these:
1) iTunes 8.2.1 (6)
2) OS X 10.4.11
3) iTouch OS 3.0 (7A341)
4) iTouch model MB528LL, 7 Gb
5) Mac detects and syncs with other, non-iTouch ipods (nano2, nano3, shuffle) with no problem.
6) Mac does not detect iTouch at all. iTouch will not even charge off Mac
7) iTouch is detected, interoperates with and can be charged by old HP computer running Windows XP with no probelm.
8) Have rebooted the iTouch several times to no effect.
9) Have reset all settings on the iTouch to no effect.
10) Have tried connecting using several different cables (all of which have worked fine in the past) to no effect.
11) iTouch works fine in all other respects. I can charge it off the PC or by using a standalone charger. Can download apps, get updates, get email, surf web. Just can't by seen by the Mac anymore regardless of which cable I use.
Wondering if this has something to do with upgrading to OS 3 on the iTouch. Problem started after that. Am I supposed to change a setting in the iTouch or make some change on the Mac in order to have the Mac recognize the iTouch after the upgrade?

As you may have discovered, just because the other iPods sync, your touch doesn't. The reason for this is that the touch and iPhone use something named Apple Mobile Device Support to handle the communication between iTunes and the touch.
The following article will tell you how to completely remove iTunes and associated pieces of software before reinstalling iTunes and correcting the problem: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747
This should correct things but to be totally sure, restart your Mini before you try connecting your iPod again.
