ITunes 10 freezing, as well as Finder

I just upgraded to iTunes 10, and it freezes on my almost immediately after start up. This happens every time.
Now, I have searched through some other forums with related problems suggesting I find my last added file and remove it, which I did do. BUT, it took me some time to do that as my Finder is now freezing for some reason (every time I open it). I don't know if it's related but there was never a problem with Finder before iTunes 10.

I have a similar problem, but iTunes freezes as soon as I open it and doesn't let me close it without going through my task manager!!!!!! I really need it too because I have pod casts for school on there and they're REALLY important, especially coming up to exams!
It would be really great if someone had a solution to both our problems!!!! I'll get back to you if I find one!

  • When trying to launch iTunes it freezes and I get the message: "Authentication Required. To access this site you need to log in to area "100656 on mellor.co. Your password will be sent in the clear." I am unable to enter a uname or password. Please help!!

When trying to launch iTunes on my PC running Windows 7 it freezes and I get the message: "Authentication Required. To access this site you need to log in to area "100656 on mellor.co. Your password will be sent in the clear." Because iTunes is frizen at this point I am unable to enter a username or password, or in fact do anything. Please help!! I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes numerous times as well as attempting all of the fixes that I could find on-line and still no joy.

That sounds extremely phishy to me... iTunes does not require authentication simply to launch it. I suspect you've got something nasty intercepting network traffic. That server may be set up to log the Apple ID that you enter so it can be used fraudulently. Try ComboFix from Bleeping Computer.
FWIW the domain mellor.co is registered to an accountants in Knutsford, Cheshire, UK, and produces the same authentication request if visited with a browser. There is no sign of a "real" publicly visible website at that domain which is a somewhat odd.

  • ITunes 9 Freezes Importing Songs

Since upgrading to iTunes 9 on Snow Leopard, it keeps freezing when trying to import MP3 song files. I double click the song file in the Finder which then tries to import and play it in iTunes. I can usually get one or two to work and then iTunes will hang with a spinning beach ball. The problem is that whatever is hanging, hangs the whole system. Everything is hung and I cannot force quit the application as none of the menus work and the dock is unresponsive. If I leave it sit for a few minutes, the spinning beach ball will eventually freeze as well and stop spinning. This is a hard freeze and the only option is to power off and on. iTunes is the only application running when this happens.
I have been able to add multiple files using the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder so I'm not sure if this is really an iTunes issue or something in the Finder. Either way, something is very wrong when powering on and off is the only way to regain control of the computer. I was hoping that Snow Leopard would be the answer to always being able to regain control of rogue apps through a force quit but that doesn't seem to be the case.
    Anyone have any ideas?

had same problem with itunes 9 and some dj sets i downloaded.the problem seemed to be that the tracks did not have artist or album id tags, just song names.i solved the problem by deselecting the "auto organize" option in the advanced preferences panel.i think the problem was that itunes didn't know where to find the tracks, since they weren't being put into artist or album folders.once i deselected the auto-organize,i was able to add the songs to library and go back and give the artist tags so they could be properly sorted and recognized into albums that itunes could recognize.the spinning beach ball was driving me crazy too.hopefully that works for you as well.

  • Everytime i eject my ipod and reconnect it all my music is gone. and sometimes while i try adding music to it. itunes completely freezes. please help. and sometimes when i plug it back into my PC i have to rename my ipod and such

Everytime i eject my ipod and reconnect it all my music is gone. and sometimes while i try adding music to it. itunes completely freezes. please help. and sometimes when i plug it back into my PC i have to rename my ipod and such

Antivirus has a tendency to freeze iTunes sync Operation with iPod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your iPod filesystem, so when iTunes can't read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
    My suggestion.
Connect your iPod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your Ipod to the PC
When iTunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your ipod, preferably manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got such a huge library.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
If this doesn't resolve your problem, then let me know.
    Good Luck!

  • Purchased movie sync-back to iTunes causes Freeze

iTunes consistently freezes while transferring a purchased movie from the Apple TV to the iTunes Library during a sync. iTunes always freezes at the same point in the transfer, and is 100% repeatable. In fact, I have not been able to to use iTunes since making this movie purchase on the Apple TV.

The transfer consistantly fails about 25% completion. Not sure of the exact %, but the bar always stops at the same position.
There is no failure message. iTunes begins to consume 100% CPU utilization, and must be force quit. It is unresponsive.
This was the first purchase made since upgrading to v2.3.
I have restarted both my MacBook, and the Apple TV with no change in results.
I am unable to use iTunes because it freezes (see above) as soon as it finds the Apple TV on the network and begins to transfer the purchased movies to the iTunes Library.

  • ITunes is freezing up my whole computer?

The latest version of iTunes along with the Apple Mobile Device Support is taking up 100% of my CPU and causing everything else to freeze up and become unresponsive. iTunes becomes unresponsive as well when I try to sync my iPod. How can I fix this? I'm really annoyed that I can't update my iPod, add more music, ect. And especially annoyed that it is affecting the preformance of my computer as well. Help!

  • ITunes keeps freezing on me.

I am running Windows 7 (64 bit) and previously when using iTunes (running latest software) all has been ok. Over the last few days I have noticed that Itunes keeps 'freezing' . when I click on the icon, iTunes opens, then tries to connecyt to the Store. The progression bar stops at half way and the whole programme freezes. I hav etries deleting and re installing, but still the same problem. Please help!
    Thanks,
    Chris

I have this issue too. I have tried all the things suggested on other posts but none work.
    Re-Installed iTunes ........
    Shutdown restart .......
Used Task Manager to see if syncserver.exe was running on my other account but could not find it...
Nothing works ......... but I can replicate the problem each time I select Preferences.
I have just openned up 2 User accounts on the computer and from what I have read it seems that the problem is restricted to computers with more than one User Account.
Why oh why do Apple make it such hard work to run 2 of it's purchased devices off one computer, if they could only work on a way to sort this problem out we wouldn't need to go around the houses to try to find fixes.

  • Many of my older ITunes downloads play perfectly well on my IMac but constantly skip to the next song or suddenly stop playing on my IPhone. The problem is the same with both my old 4s and my new 5s. I have tried deleting and re-downloading to the phones.

Many of my older ITunes downloads play perfectly well on my IMac but constantly skip to the next song or suddenly stop playing on my IPhone. The problem is the same with both my old 4s and my new 5s  phones. I have tried deleting and re-downloading my music library to the phones, but the result is always the same.

    I'm adding more information:
in Finder, my iMovie folders are all visible and accessible.  When I click on a clip from iMovie Events folder, Quicktime opens and plays the clip.  ALL my video is not missing - it just isn't showing up in the Event Library!
This happened all of a sudden, while I was working on iMovie project (on both computers).
All my Projects are intact, and play when I open them.

  • ITunes keeps freezing no matter what I try. No that it controls all my music, and doesn't work, what am I supposed to do?

It seems that iTunes doesn't want to work. I've reinstalled, ugraded and restarted my computer. But nothing seems to work iTunes keeps freezing. Now it's just a useless app on my computer. It controls all the music and it's taken many hours to be bothered to use it, now that I depend on it it doesn't work. Is there another more reliable program that organizes and transfers music to iPods? Or am I just stuck with the music thats on my iTunes?
I'm not really impressed and that my family has many apple products that are mainly run by this one piece of software is mind bogglling.
Are there older versions of iTunes to use? because before this last update I had no issues.

If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID and that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

    Terence,
Well you got a point there. In the end, I give you a quote from the software license agreement:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=26275
"7. Limitation of Liability. TO THE EXTENT NOT PROHIBITED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL APPLE BE LIABLE FOR PERSONAL INJURY, OR ANY INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, INDIRECT OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES WHATSOEVER, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF DATA, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION OR ANY OTHER COMMERCIAL DAMAGES OR LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE APPLE SOFTWARE, HOWEVER CAUSED, REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY (CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE) AND EVEN IF APPLE HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES."
That pretty much covers loss of data from inability to use the software. I would consider learning how to manage your data a method of learning how to use the software. There are other parts of the license agreement, which you basically signed when you installed your software and agreed to it. I would consider this warning enough. Learn what it takes to use your system, which includes backing up. Data loss is not covered and you agreed to that. And as the Terms of Use say:
    http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa
You can't argue with Apple's policy:
    "2. Submissions
Search or browse for existing answers before you ask a question. Someone else may have asked your question — it may save you some time.
Stay on topic. Apple's discussion forums are here to help people use Apple products and technologies more effectively. Unless otherwise noted, don't add Submissions about nontechnical topics, including:
That Apple rumor you saw on another website.
Discussions of Apple policies or procedures. [my emphasis]
    Speculations/rumors about unannounced products.
The status of your 1973 MG Midget restoration. "
The warning signs were there. Just had to read through the license agreement to find it. Whether that's enough for you, well you can take that up with Customer Relations, which is a branch of AppleCare when you call them up.

  • ITunes is freezing when it opens

Recently, my iTunes began freezing whenever it is opened. I have a video (that I made myself) that is loaded onto my iPod and some parts of it appear to have been lost. When iTunes is started a box pops up saying it cannot find a particular clip. I have attempted to delete the movie several times as I have it stored on DVD but I can't get past this section. The program completely freezes and becomes unresponsive. Help! I can't purchase new songs or update my iPod until I can get the program to work again.

I have a 2G iPod touch and just last week I downloaded iTunes version 8.0.2, and now itunes freezes. I just tried opening it, and it was frozen. I thought it was just doing it when I connected my iPod the USB. Is this the problem you're having? Has anyone figured out what's going on? I'm totally not computer savvy, so any help would be appreciated! Thanks

  • ITunes Completely Freezing XP

I'm running Windows XP SP3 on and LG E500 and it has recently started freezing my entire computer. I can't even open task manager and I have to resort to holding the power button on my laptop to shut it down.
I have reinstalled Windows on my computer as well as iTunes/Quicktime. I've tried adding music now and it freezes as it is processing songs. I've tried adding batches of songs but it eventually freezes when processing one of the batches that I add.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if anyone knows how to fix it.

I was adding around 50 - 100 songs at a time then was slowly adding larger batches and it eventually froze. But whenever I try to open iTunes it freezes.
This was also happenning before when I had all my songs in my library (about 6000). They are all on a local HDD but I will try installing iTunes on the same drive that my music is on.

  • ITunes 9 freezes Windows when launched

Hi, I'm using Windows 7 and ITunes 9 and everything was fine until a couple of weeks ago when ITunes started freezing my PC (meaning everything looked fine but my mouse and keyboard weren't responding and my hard drive was just spinning). I've uninstalled completely using Renovo. I've tried using ITunes 8 as well, but it froze with that as well. At the time this started there were no new programs downloaded or drivers updated.
Anyone have any clue to what this problem might be? Thank you for reading.
    John

Probably the best thing to do with that one, dimples, is to try working through the troubleshooting procedures from the following document:
