ITunes 7 Privilege Problems with Non-Administrator Account

Hello,
I've installed iTunes 7 on WinXP using my account, which is in the Administrators group. However, when I attempt to launch it under another account (which is in the Power Users group, but is not an administrator), a window is displayed with the following message:
"Please wait while Windows configures iTunes".
This occurs every time I launch iTunes. Afterwards, I sometimes receive a message indicating this account doesn't have privileges necessary to start a service and the configuration step is undone. Other times, I receive the following:
"An error occurred while updating the default player for audio file types. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
I really don't want to give this account Administrator privileges. What are my options?

Here are a couple of things to try:
1. Create a group called IpodUsers
2. Add restricted users you want to access itunes
3. goto: START>MY COMPUTER navigate to Program Files
4. Find the iTunes, Quicktime, and Apple Update folder.
5. Right click on on the folder and select Properties goto the Security Tab
6. Click add, Add in IpodUsers, in the lower pane place check mark in Full Control box. Repeat for the other 2 folders

I passed in username and password of account "A" to method "LaunchAppWithElevatedPrivilege", and also the application i want to launch, e.g. "C:\windows\regedit.exe", but when i run the service program, i found it do launch
"regedit.exe" with elevated account "A", but the content of regedit.exe is pure back. screenshot as below:

You code is not dealing with the DACL access to Winsta0\Default. Only the LocalSystem account will have full access and the interactively logged on user which is why regedit is not displaying properly. You'll need to grant access to your user.
You also need to deal with UAC since that code is going to give you a non-elevated token via LogonUser(). You need to get the full token via a call to GetTokenInformation() + TokenLinkedToken.

Problems with POP email accounts set up on iPad air why can't I send emails?

I have an Ipad Air and am having problems with POP email account set up.
I can receive emails however I cannot reply or create a new email and send it.
Is there something I need to fix in Outgoing settings? these are the same as on my MacPro using same ISP provider Optus the only difference is that the Ipad has a prepaid sim card - however still with Optus.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Flash removed by non-administrator accounts

Here is a perennial problem that I have as a network administrator:
All users in my domain have no greater rights to the local computers (mostly Windows XP) than Power Users, and in many cases, only Users. This is to keep them from installing all their favorite games and wasting my time trying to remove all the junk. I keep Flash relatively current by updating it across the network periodically (perhaps twice per year or as I get notification of new versions).
However, Flash insists on notifying these non-administrators when an update is available. When the user accepts the update, it uninstalls the current version but cannot install the new version because he does not have administrative rights. Now he has no Flash. When he then attempts to access Flash content, he gets a message indicating that he needs to update his Flash, which prompts him to send me an e-mail telling me he is unable to access the site until he updates his Flash.
These are not users that are going to the Adobe website to manually update; they are just accepting the stock in-your-face update notifications. I have tested this under a non-administrative account. Sure enough, when I accept an update, it removes the current version (i.e. it is no longer listed in Add/Remove Programs) but cannot install the new one, leaving me with none until I log on administratively and install it.
This is beginning to consume more time for me because it takes extra time dealing with all the users who think they should just accept every update that comes along. I do instruct users to cancel any offered updates, but they regularly ignore my instruction because they always think it won't hurt to try.
It is as though Flash was written without any consideration for mixed-security environments. The program insists on advertising updates, allows anyone to remove the old version, but requires administrative rights to install the new one. One would think that it should require administrative rights for removal. I am guessing that there is probably a way to turn off advertisement of new versions to users; however, I suspect that is a lot of administrative overhead for one little program on many computers, and I would also guess that I would have to reset the "do not offer updates to users" after every update.
Any ideas (other than making everyone local administrators and spending all my time cleaning off all their games & other junk)?

Let me be more exact. Although the config file option is a sound management
strategy in a single-network scenario, it is not very workable with 150
individual computers across eight disparate networks owned by different
clients. I am just spending an inordinate amount of time on managing one
little application.
It would likely cost my clients more to have me proactively manage this one
application than to clean up after a few users in the cases where it is a
problem. I will report this as a bug; I just find it a little surprising
that the issue has persisted over the last several releases of Flash. I
guess I have just been expecting that someone would have reported it and
have been waiting for the behavior to change while I have been entirely
buried in larger projects.

Acrobat/CS5.5 won't open from a non-Administrator account

I have an intermittent problem that occurs when I double-click a .pdf file from a non-Administrator account. Acrobat.exe shows up as an active process in Task Manager, but Acrobat never actually launches or opens the file. My administrator doesn't have this problem from his account on the same computer. This is an intermittent problem that occurs about 70% of the time I try to open a .pdf. I am also unable to launch Acrobat from the Start menu when I am experiencing the problem. I am running Windows 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I completed all of the recommendations and I am still having this problem. I'm going to completely uninstall all Adobe products and re-install again. Is there any recommended steps for a complete uninstall?

Hi everybody. I'm new to java and after trying installing JDK 6 and Netbeans I got this exception everytime I visit a site that use java technology :

I'm using winxp SP2
What can I do ? Please help me !

You might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
You might then need to log out of your account on your phone by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on it.
If that doesn't fix it then you might need to contact iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

How to run admin tasks with non-admin account ?

Hello,
The title says it all: I want to allow some non-administrative accounts to run admin tasks which must be run as root.
A solution would be to use 'sudo' and give rights to those non-admin accounts on the binaries used by the tasks. But I notably use 'chmod' and 'chown' in those tasks, and I would not want to give to non-admin accounts rights to run those commands as root outside the admin task scripts. But from my understanding of 'sudo', if I do it, non-admin accounts will be able to use chmod and chown outside the scripts. Is this right ?
The sid bit could have been a solution I think, but sadly it is not supported on Mac OSX 10.5.

I am trying to use the sudo route add command in a script, which should run as part of a vpn connection config file. I get an unable to run script error in the log.

Tried to run the command from the terminal and got the following error

Latest iTunes update problems with repeated error messages every 65 seconds??

After this mornings' update of iTunes. Problems with Applemobiledeviceservices.exe. Error message every 65 seconds - software exception (oxc06d007e) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812fd3.
How do I stop this?

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

After power down and a cold restart, I automatically restart in my Administrator Account. Running 10.8.4 with one Administrator account, one user account and one guest account. Recently downloaded and installed 3rd party software (Panorama).

I did so and successfully installed the 3rd party software. I powered down a few days late and when I restarted, I went automatically to my Administrator account with no login password required. I deleted the Other account, powered down and restarted with the same result - opened in Administrator. I then followed the steps to disable root user, powered down, cold restart - same result, opened in Administrator account.
Any suggestions? Any thoughts? Much appreciate any help you might offer.

Disable automatic login. Open System Preferences > Users and Groups > Login Options, press the padlock at the bottom left corner, and select "Off" next to "Automatic login"

[SOLVED!] On USB drives, problems with non-English chars and HAL

I am having a problem with non-English caracters (áãàçéẽê...) on files stored on my USB drive.
On Windows they're created with the correct name. But on Linux the files have the non-English characteres replaced by '?' and are not accessible.
If I manuallly mount the drives using 'mount -o iocharset=utf8 /dev/sdb1 /media/usbdisk' the characters are OK, so I think I just need to get HAL to pass the correct parameters to mount. However I don't know how to do that, and haven't found any good solution.
I tried to build a custom kernel setting the default charset as UTF-8 and it didn't work.
Any ideas? I'm using x86-64, HAL 0.5.13-3 and my locale is pt-BR.UTF-8.

EDIT: Actually, this is not a HAL problem, but a problem with 'exo'. For the solution, I edited /etc/xdg/xfce4/mount.rc and added iocharset=utf8 to the [vfat] category.

I don't use Thunar presently, but I looked in the Thunar Volume Manager doc and I didn't find anything to change the mount options of removable drives. I am not quite sure if it's possible or not. Maybe someone using it can tell for sure.
But if it is not possible to change the mount options, a possible solution is to disable the Thunar Volume Manager plugin and to use something else more configurable to manage the automount function.
Personally I use the halevt package from AUR which uses configuration files in the xml format.
It's not so easy to use but is highly configurable.
But there exists other tools also.
I can help you with halevt if you choose that way...

Problems with non-ASCII characters on Linux Unit Test Import

I found a problem with non-ASCII characters in the Unit Test Import for Linux. This problem does not appear in the Unit Test Import for Windows.
I have attached a Unit Test export called PROC1.XML It tests a procedure that is included in another attachment called PROC1.txt. The unit test includes 2 implementations. Both implementations pass non-ASCII characters to the procedure and return them unchanged.
In Linux, the unit test import will change the non-ASCII characters in the XML file to xFFFD. If I copy/paste the the non-ASCII characters into the Unit Test after the import, they will be stored and executed correctly.

If SQL*Developer is coded the same between Windows and Linux, The JVM must be causing the problem.

Set the System property "mail.mime.decodeparameters" to "true" to enable the RFC 2231 support.

My bad, It was a Verizon problem. When they upgraded my phone they were supposed to remove all blocks on messaging . Found out they did not do this. All messaging now works. Thanks for listening.
