ITunes aborts when updating Library

I can not get iTunes to run (have had it working fine for 3 years)... suddenly it aborts as the program loads the Library. Therefore I can not sync or play.
I suspect a bad file in the library but How to Find it?
I have uninstalled, scandisked, defragged, reinstalled several times.. new download of iTunes..
any help is appreciated.

ps ... also uninstalled and reinstalled QuickTime...

  • A suggestion--please make Itunes behave better when updating library

Whenever iTunes is running Updating Library, if I switch to another application, every 15-20 seconds iTunes pulls itself back and gives itself top level focus. I KNOW the library is updating. Why do I need to be reminded of this every 15 seconds. Basically, while the library is updating, I can't use my computer for anything else. Please make the "Updating Library" window stay in the background when the user has tabbed away to another application. Thanks!

  • My ipad2 says "cannot connect to iTunes store" when updating apps

My iPad2 says "cannot connect to iTunes store" when updating apps.  Connects properly when buying apps or music - only problem is when updating.   I have tried all the suggestions that I have found:  soft reset, ensuring that restrictions, changing my apple account password, turning on automatic downloads.
    Any ideas?  Thanks much.

Same here. I have an iPad2, IOS5 WiFi and the iPad can not connect to iTunes store from Videos and Itunes App.
App Sore is OK, and Safari also where connection is ok.
My computer, Windows 7/64 connects via iTunes utility ok.
I upgraded to IOS5 the same day as I got the iPad2, and I am not sure if it worked before.
Any solutions to this problem ?
It looks like that many other users have similar problem.

  • Itunes Crashed when uploading library To Classic IPOD

Not too sure if anyone else is having this problem. But i have updated the itunes and ipod software, and have reset it and also restored it numerous times.
But every time i connect my ipod and either manually sync my music or whether it does it automatically it will get to around 150 songs and then will crash and will sometimes get different errors.
Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this or even better some possible fixes?
    Cheers

    Jeremy,
Thank You for the reply but my issue was not in the attachment you sent.
iTunes freezes when I attempt to add music to my ipod classic especially playlists I have made.
iTunes recognizes my ipod but when I "add" that when the issue starts.
I have my large library on a pc using windows 7. I have no issue adding music to my device on
my macbook pro but like I said, my 60,000 song plus library is on my pc.
Any additional help would be greatly appreciated.
    Happy Holidays,

  • ITunes crashes while updating library

For the past few months, whenever I start up iTunes, it automatically begins to update my song library. This is fine and all, but once it gets about 4/5 of the way done, iTunes crashes. There is no apparent way to stop iTunes from updating the library, since it wont let me select the window with the progress bar or the main iTunes window itself. I've tried reinstalling iTunes twice and fiddling around with quicktime, but nothing seems to change. I've posted this topic before and I came back an hour later and it was on page five with zero responses, so that sort of lead me to believe no one had an answer for me, but I'm becoming very sick of having my iTunes and thus my entire music library bricked. So please, any and all help will be GREATLY appreciated.

The last time I saw that (although it has just been the once), the problem was caused by a damaged library file. Given that you're getting the error when iTunes is doing the library update, I suspect it's the same issue.
Try an iTunes library recreation as per the instructions in the Re-creating the iTunes Library file section of the following document:
iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists
Does that get you past the error?

  • Getting message Can not connect to iTunes Store when updating apps

I'm getting the message can not connect to iTunes Store when trying to update apps. I have tried troubleshooting in every way possible. Help please

    Saw this on another post.
Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it!   It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

  • ITunes & trouble initializing - Update Library hangs

    Hi everyone,
I recently upgraded to the latest version of iTunes and, like everyone else, I'm having difficulties.
The program opens correctly. However, when it begins to update my library automatically, it completes about 85% of the update and then hangs ... and hangs ... and hangs some more.
After the program freezes and ceases updating the library, the computer comes to a virtual halt and I have to shut it down manually.
I've reinstalled quicktime, but I'm not certain that has anything to do with this problem.
    Any thoughts?

Killed the processes, installed from .dmg, everything fine.

  • ITunes 7 freezes updating library on G3 iPod

I recently bought a Macbook 2 Ghz w/ 1 Gig of RAM and 60 Gig drive. I have 25 Gig of music on an external fireware drive. I have let the system updater do all the recommended upgrades as of yesterday. I used the new computer wizard to transfer all my user data and settings from my G4 iBook when I set up the MacBook (Ibook has fried GPU but can be accessed as a external drivbe) Since I set the Macbook up I have deleted some duplicate songs and consolidated my library onto a freshly formatted exteranl firewire drive. I can play music in iTunes without problem. I have a 30 Gig iPod w/ Dock Connector. This iPod has virtually the same music I imported into iTunes it was last connected to the G4 iBook.
When I plug the iPod into the machine iTunes immediately starts to "Update the Library". The status bar on the dialog gets about 1/3 done rather quickly and then it freezes. The only way I can get the iTunes to quit is to force quit it from the Activity Monitor, which reports iTunes is not responding. Most of the time I have to force reboot the machine as well. I have done this a dozen times or more. I have left the machine in it's frozen state overnight and it never came back.
The iPod still works on it's own but I can not sync it with the machine or connect it to the machine without locking up iTunes.
Is there a way to completely reset an iPod without hooking it up to the computer?
Is there a way to set iTunes to not sync the iPod as soon as it is connected? (seems the option for this is on the page that comes up after the ipod is connected)
I've spent an hour on this forum and it seems lot's of people reporting similar problems but have not found any solutions.
    HELP!!!

    anybody????

  • Itunes freezes during update library after 7.3 upgrade

When starting iTunes, it immediately begins to update the library and freezes about half way through. This is after I updated from 7.2 to 7.3. I have a LOT of songs and I'd rather not uninstall iTunes.
Anyone know what's wrong here? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

There have been multiple posts on this topic. If you're interested, try searching the forums. (Maybe someone has a better answer than me). Here's my latest post:
My understanding is that there's a corrupt file in the library that's causing this problem--either a podcast or a video. You can search these forums for other threads on this subject.
From what I've read, you need to figure out which file is causing the hang and remove it (easier said than done).
One thing you can try is to pull all of the podcast and/or video files (you could try one or the other first, too.) out of your iTunes folder before you try to launch iTunes. Leave them on your desktop.
If iTunes launches successfully, then you can slowly try to add these files back to your iTunes folder to find out which one causes the hang.
Not ideal advice, I know. But it may be a way to get iTunes back up and running again.

  • How do you change the iTunes ID when updating apps? 3 people use the same iPad with different iTune IDs.

When trying to update apps on iPad2, someone elses iTunes ID is already showing when it asks for a password. (all in the family)
How do I change to my iTunes ID? I checked settings & it is correct there.

Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID - tap on the ID to sign out of that one. Then tap Sign in to sign in with another ID.
If you have problems switching the ID's you may want to restart the iPad before you sign in with the new ID.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Doesn't it get confusing using 3 ID's on one iPad?

  • "Cannot connect to the iTunes Store" when updating apps

This error confounds me ... in iTunes, I check for app updates. The update list populates. Usually asks me for my password first but updates. Then when I click to download all updates, I get this message
"You have already purchased this item. You have already purchased this item but it has not been downloaded. To download it, select Check for Available Downloads from the Store menu" Done that no luck. Sometimes I can update the apps by checking for updates on my iPhone or iPad and they update, then disappear from the update list when I sync. But for apps I purchased but are currently not installed on a device, no luck.

Just posted this reply to a similar question here.  Hope it helps:
What worked for me was unplugging my router and then plugging it back in after a few seconds. It was one of the recommendations listed in the Apple troubleshooting forum:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
I've had my iPhone 4 for almost a year and just today I started getting that "Cannot connect to iTunes Store" message when I tried updating a few of my apps. I tried shutting off my phone, I verified that I had the latest iOS, and I toggled the on/off button in my wireless settings on the phone, but none of that worked. I didn't want to reset my phone or sync it to iTunes so I googled it and came across the link above. I didn't think that my router was the problem because my internet was working just fine on my iPhone and the signal strength was good. But as soon as I unplugged my router and plugged it back in, I tried updating my apps again and sure enough, as soon as I entered my password, the apps began updating immediately. Really weird. Maybe this will work for some of you.
Another issue I've had is when I'm somewhere that doesn't have WiFi, it won't allow me to update or download apps that are over a certain size. Sometimes it'll give me the message that I need to connect to WiFi because the app is over certain MBs in size, and sometimes it won't say anything at all and it just won't download. But as soon as I connect to WiFi, it will.

  • My iPhone 'Cannot connect to iTunes store' when updating apps?

It's not my phone, i've tried on my sisters touch & dad's iPhone also.. same result. And when I log on to iTunes on my computer, everything is fine.

I had a go at that.. and it comes up saying i dont even have any updates to download.. but i do on my iPhone. It's annoying. Even if i do download the apps on my computer and sync, how are my sisters supposed to update my app on their ipods/iphones?

  • Itunes won't update library or keep view settings

Today I ripped a couple of CD's with itunes.  I haven't used it in a while but it's up to date.
The problem is that the ripped music shows up in the library when it's ripped, but if I exit itunes and come back in to it, it's not in the library.
Same thing goes for  the view settings.  I'[ve change all permissions to remove read-only setting.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeksare worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select anyiTunes, QuickTime and Bonjour entries and click "Remove".
Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • ITunes crashes when restoring library burned to dvd?

I have a G5 iMac running OS 10+. I have been using iTunes 7 on it with no problems. I recently pruchased a Toshiba pc and downloaded iTunes 7 to it in hopes of transfering my library. I backed up my library to 4 dvd's and proceeded to restore it on the new pc. the first two dics loaded fine, but on the third the program and computer crashed ... just locked up. It was while iTunes was eliminating gaps or something. Thinking I had a corrupt file, I deleted all the songs after the one where the computer froze. I re-burned the last two dvds and the same thing happened. Now, any time I open iTunes on the pc it tries to eliminate the remaining gaps and freezes again, forcing me to shut down and restart my computer. Any suggestions??
