ITunes alarm clock script

Hi,
I'm very interested in starting AppleScript...
My first script I'd like to do is for iTunes to start up in the morning at 07:00 and play a selected track.
Can someone please give me a link for this and offer some tips for a newbie to AppleScript. I really want my Mac experience to grow and be more.
And AppleScript, UNIX, and Terminal seem to be the only way to go from what I've studied thus far. Downloading things like free ware and share ware has gotten pretty blah.
I've downloaded the AppleScript pdf and I'm ready for action!
Thanks,
Michael

these books are pretty useful. (to me they are)

AppleScript: The Missing Manual.
this thread could be useful.

the code from this application by Romeo Opena could be used as a good learning source on which to base your own alarm clock, the application it's self is pretty cool.

  • ITunes Alarm Clock with Airplay

Up to a year ago, I had an alarm clock application which I got from the App Store that did a nice alarm clock playing one of my iTunes play list at a certain time in the morning.
Then I moved my computer from my bedroom to my office.  So I can't hear the iMac from my bedroom.  Ok, so I got a set of speakers that can be invoked using AirPlay from iTunes.  As a manual operation it is exactly what I wanted.  However, the alarm clock application has no option to set the Air Play option on iTunes.  If I run iTunes and select my Air Play speakers, when the Alarm clock plays a Playlist, iTunes resets the output to the Computer.  <Sigh>
A few months ago, I found a script that would set the Air Play output device and run a play list.  I was set.  However, I found no option to run this on a schedule.  Since Mountain Lion, the option to run a script from a calendar event was removed.  <double sigh>
Someone suggested Keyboard Maestro which looks like an excellant application for many things.  However, at that point, Apple released iTunes 11 which I installed.  Now I find that the scripts I found on the internet to select Air Play and a particular device via Apple Script no longer works with iTunes 11.  <now I'm up to groan>
Playing around with Keyboard Maestro, I found a way to record a script within KM that will allow me to manipulate the U/I of iTunes with keystrokes and mouse clicks to do what I want.  Problem solved??
NO.  It turns out that the macro I defined in Keyboard Maestro works just fine EXCEPT that if the Screen Saver if running, KM cannot do U/I actions (this according to KM's author who has been very responsive to my requests for support).  He is not sure there is any way to do it.
I'm experimenting to verify this statement by turning off the Energy saver options to turn off the CPU and display and not do Screen Saver.  If that works then I have narrowed down my issue.  I should know tommorrow (I did a test last night but forgot to display the Screen Saver and so it didn't accomplish what I wanted).
Does anyone know how I could solve the problem?  Is there some kind of program I could run that would turn off the Screen Saver when run so the U/I is up and running again when the script I have would work?
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks,
    Bruce

Did you ever find a solution? I have the same problem.

  • How can I turn my Mac using iTunes into an alarm clock?

Here's my question: How can I turn my Mac, using iTunes, into an alarm clock?
I want to be able to put my Mac to sleep but have it set up so that when it wakes up at the predetermined time iTunes will open and start playing the music I've selected....
    A "musical alarm clock"...
A friend suggested using the Energy Saver option in Sys. Preferences to wake the computer at the right time. He said that then I could use iCal to start iTunes. I would then have to use an Apple Script to get iTunes to play the song I want.
But is there a SIMPLER way to do this? Are there any programs out there that do this already??
    Thanks for any help....

I recently got a copy of AlarmClock Pro from MacWorld UK. It is shareware, I think it is (USD?)19. I haven't had a chance to try it out much, but it does look quite good. I have an older version. The latest version looks even better.
I'm sure there's plenty of freeware apps out there. You might also want to try looking here for an applescript here Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes

Is there a way that iTunes can act as a Radio Alarm Clock?
I have found the radio station I enjoy listening to in the iTunes Radio List. Is there anyway iTunes (and my Mac) can be set to come-on from Sleep mode and start playing that Radio Station at specific times of the day?
Any App or plug-in that does that?
    Many thanks

Turning your Mac into a clock radio.
    1.  In iTunes create a playlist that contains just the radio station you want to wake up to.
    2.  Export the playlist (as .m3u works well).  Get Info on your playlist file and look at the Open With entry to make sure it points to iTunes, VLC or some other app that will stream your station.
    3.  In iCal create an event entry at the time you want to wake up.
    4.  Right (or Control) click on your wakeup event and select Get Info.
    5.  For "alarm" select Open File.
    6.  Now under Open File there will be a place to add the file to open.  It will probably be some default entry (like iCal).  Click on it will allow you to select "other."  Then use the file dialog to select your playlist file.
Your Mac will wake you up at the appointed time.  You don't need to keep iCal running.  If you want to put you Mac to sleep for the night then there is one more thing you need to do.  Open System Preferences to Energy Saver and click on the Schedule button.  Check Start up or wake and set the wake up time to slightly before your iCal alarm time.

  • Itunes as alarm clock

this shouldn't be too hard for all you clever people,
i just wondered if its at all possible to have itunes wake up my imac at a pre decided time and start playing music, so it would work as an alarm clock so to speak.
    Any ideas?
    many thanks
    A.

There is also third party software that work with itunes to become a music alarm clock.
    Google 'iRooster" and "Power Controller".

  • My macbook air is updated but now I can't download updates for My Alarm Clock, apps and iTunes.

My Mac will try to download the app to 100%, but then it tell me that it is unable to download. I have tried to turn off the firewall and restart. My itunes will not update My Alarm Clock or anything else.

(iTunes) iOS based apps (for iPhones, iPads, and the iPod touch) can be updated directly from the device.
Tap the App Store icon then tap Updates at the bottom of the display.
    For your Mac...
    -  Temporarily disable anti virus software if installed.
    -  Apps such as Little Snitch, Net Nanny, and Hands Off can prevent apps from downloading including Mountain Lion.
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Now open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy/paste:    ~/LIbrary/Caches/com.apple.appstore
Click Go then move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.appstore folder to the Trash.
    Type or copy/paste:    ~/Library/Cookies
Click Go then move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
    Type or copy/paste:    ~/Library/Preferences
Click Go then move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Try updating the My Alarm Clock app.

  • AppleScript: AirPort Alarm Clock

I have been programming with Unix shell scripts for some years but following is my very first AppleScript (modified through trial and error from public domain script). This script is used together with timer application Aurora as alarm clock to stream music from iMac in living room through Airfoil utility and AirPort Express to Bose speaker in bedroom every morning. It was edited in Script Editor and saved as application. Whenever the script is invoked, I notice old Mac OS 9 style of beach ball appear on display. Obviously it has been saved as carbon instead of native cocoa application, may I know how can I turn the AppleScript into native cocoa application ? (through Script Editor / XCode ?) I have Intel version of Mac OS 10.4.9 installed on iMac Core2Duo with all Apple updates applied as of today.
I find this script rather useful for streaming any playlist to any remote speaker through Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil utility and AirPort Express. It can be kept on desktop for convenient access as well. Note Apple AirTunes bypass any audio plugins installed in iTunes (SRS iWOW and Volume Logic in my case), hence Airfoil must be used instead. Let me know whether any improvement can be made to the script.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Using my Mac as alarm clock

Hi- I notice in the Sys Prefs under Energy saver you can get the Mac to Startup (or Shutdown) at specific times.
The problem is you can only set Weekends, Weekdays, Every Day or ONE day in the week. I work Saturdays but not Mondays, so I need to set the Mac to wake at 6:00 on Tues-Sat inc, and not on Sun/Mon.
Can the Mac do this on it's own (Automator?), or will I need a bit of shareware?
    Thanks muchly!

There's nothing more reliable than a windup alarm clock that you set every night... What if there's a power outage?
Here's another one that looks pretty good (never used it myself) and it's donationware.
    http://www.robbiehanson.com/alarmclock/index.html
If you leave your Mac ON all the time (using only display sleep) like I do, you can create a repeating event in iCal that sounds an alarm. I think it can also run a script, which can be used to launch iTunes and play a specific playlist. But I don't think iCal will wake up your Mac if it is sleeping.

    Hello there philp_69,
If I understand correctly it sounds like your phone hasnt been recognized in iTunes on your PC since the last couple of updates. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article which will walk you through the steps one by one.

  • Alarm clock not working in iOS 7 with multiple alarms set.

I usually have two alarms set on my phone, both using the stock clock app.  One about an hour before I need to get up (so I can turn the heater on and crawl back under the covers), the other for the time I am supposed to get up.  The second alarm works just fine, but the fist one has not gone off for several days.  They are not recurring alarms because I need to change the time each day due to my work schedule.
The phone is *usually* in a speaker dock which is plugged into the wall, and works just fine for the purpose of playing my second alarm or any of my music.  When not in the dock, it is still plugged in to the charger but uses the built in speakers.
Has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone know of a possible fix?

  • My alarm clock doent sound now that I have 7.0. Any body know why? how to fix it?

my alarm clock doesnt sound since I updated to 7.0 .. how do i turn up the volume so my alarm isnt silent?

I found that what worked to correct this issue on my iPhone 4S was to turn off automatic app updates. I went to Settings - iTunes & App Store - and under Automatic Downloads, switched Updates to off. My apps that were stuck in 'Waiting' immediately began downloading.
Although I would like to be able to use the automatic update feature, at least I found a fix to the 'waiting' issue for now.

  • Alarm Clock giving weird notification when using song

When using my alarm clock with the new song feature, I am getting a notification that says "Download over cellular? Additional fees may apply when downloading songs over cellular." Options are Cancel or Download. The songs I have chosen are already on my iPhone so there should be 0 reason to have to download anything. Please advise.
    Thank you,
    Andrew

Goto Settings--> General--> Cellular--> Is your cellular Data on? I turned mine off and it fixed the problem. You may also want to check Settings--> iTunes&App stores--> Use cellular Data and set to off so you don't eat up data on wifi. Some people have had big charges when left on.

  • Alarm Clock apps?!?!?!?!?!?

This is quite ridiculous. The clock app that comes with the iPhone has absolutely NO customization options whatsoever when it comes to alarms, and its just flat out lame. (Apple really outdone themselves to keep everything absolutely simple, they failed, as in functionality, on this criteria this time)
I went on to search for alarm clock apps on the app store and found this free version of Alarm Clock Pro and tried it out, I liked it a bit, it offered a bit of customization than the built in clock app the iPhone comes with. So I went on ahead and bought the Pro version for .99 because the ads on the free version were annoying.
But wait, you have to leave the alarm clock app opened throughout the whole night for it to work to wake you up in the morning? HUH?? WHATS GOING ON?? I always wake up to find that half of the battery from my iPhone is drained because of the alarm app!!!! Ridiculous! I previously owned an android phone and was able to quickly find a free alarm clock app on the market that offered even more customization and all for free, and you dont need to have the app opened for it to work!!
Someone please tell me there is something else for the iPhone that can be like that, while I already wasted .99 cents on the suppose BEST alarm clock app for the iPhone, I'm even willing to pay for a new alarm app that offers the same exact thing the android has to offer.

Unfortunately no alarm clock app will wake you up to a mp3 from your library when it's not open.
This is something Apple has not allowed. We tried to come up with a solution ourselves with our alarm app but as other developers realized it cant be done . We are still working on a solution though; not giving up!
Our app if interested is alarm app that wakes you up and speaks short weather reports to you http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sleep-fm/id388631053?mt=8#

Welcome to the Apple Community Elizabeth.
You should be able to access any book you have purchased from iTunes anywhere.
Do you have settings > iBooks > Show all purchases turned on.

  • MacB ook Pro Alarm Clock?

I just wondered if there's some sort of alarm clock built into MacBook Pro. My alarm clock just went on the blink, and I need to get up early in the morning.

    Hi David,
Try this free application. It'll wake you with any song from your iTunes library and will even wake up your Mac if it's asleep.
