ITunes charges incorrect sales tax

Does iTunes and Apple in general charge you the wrong tax rate? They do for me!
Apple does not have a sales transaction system which recognizes correct sales tax rates. In my case they lump me into a city for sales tax purposes but I live in an unincorporated area (which does have a unique zip+4 number) but they charge me the city sales tax rate. At least when I purchase hardware from Apple to be delivered to our home the phone sales people will adjust the sale price accordingly since they cannot modify the sales tax. But with iTunes there is no hope. I have gotten some response in the past from Apple but nothing ever happens. Now Apple does not even respond. Thus I've given up buying music from Apple.
Apple management has decided they don't want to treat their customers fairly, at least with respect to billing them properly through iTunes.
Note that car dealers and any business that delivers to our house knows the correct sales tax to charege.
If you have this same issue please write to Apple. Perhaps one day they will implement a proper transaction system.

I recently noticed the overcharge on Memphis sales tax recently when I bought books as gifts.  I contacted customer service and got the "check with your state for the rate" answer.  I work in sales tax and know the rate...I have made MANY online purchases that were taxed correctly.  It's not that much $$ for one customer, but if you put it all together it would be material.  AND if they remit the "correct" amount and COLLECT the "incorrect" amount, which is the way most tax programs work (sales x rate), they may be making a little extra $$ on collecting a few cents on transactions.  Frustrating.

  • Apple iTunes overcharging on sales tax.

I reside in Tennessee where sales tax is 9.25%.  I am being charged an extra 2 cents or so in tax on an average album purchase.
Here is the most recent example.  I bought Ryan Adam's iTunes Session album at the price of $7.99.
    Here's the math:
    $7.99 X 1.0925 = $8.729, or, rounded up, $8.73.
iTunes charged me $8.75. Why?  It's an extra 2 cents and is an overcharge, no matter the small amount. I've looked at my account and this has happened on every iTunes purchase for at least 5 months.  I didn't check back any farther, as obviously something is wrong, unless there is an additional tax I am not aware of.
Can anyone explain this?  I don't want to think the worst about Apple, but it's hard not to calculate that 2 cents multiplied by millions is a lot of money. Hopefully, there's another explanation.

  • Calculating Sales Tax Script?

I created an invoice in LiveCycle Designer.  I would like to have two checkboxes for "yes" or "no" when it comes to whether or not the sales tax applies.  I have an idea for the if expression but it's not working at all.  Once I typed the if expression, the Sales Tax field is blank.  Before I added the checkboxes or the if expression, the field was working which was (Subtotal*TaxRate).  I named each field individually even the checkboxes.
I need to have allow a situation when the sales tax doesn't apply and some of my customers do not get charge with sales tax.  I need help figuring out what script is best to use or how to make this work.  Also, where do you write the script?  Under calculate?
The script that I wrote was:
    if Yes_1 = "Yes" then (Subtotal*TaxRate)
         else SalesTax = 0 endif
    If Yes_2 = "Yes" then (Subtotal*Tax Rate)
         else SalesTax = 0 endif
    Can someone help me please?!
    Thanks

It is not working because your syntax is incorrect. You could put this into the calculate event of the salestax field (in formcalc):
    if (Yes_1 == 1 or Yes_2 == 1) then
    $ = Subtotal * TaxRate
    else $ = 0
    endif

  • What's with these iTunes charges?

After seeing the first charges from iTunes on my Chase credit card bill, I noticed many inconsistencies. Even though the songs cost 0.99 and 1.29, with albums costing more, I have charges ranging from 0.31 to 13.42. I understand that there are probably taxes and hidden fees I should have figured out before, right? I have figured out that they (or Chase) combine(s) purchases on the bill, but that said, it still doesn't add up. Does anyone else have these problems?

Yes, in most states, the iTunes Store collects sales tax at the percentage specified by the state.
To validate the charges, look at your Purchase History in iTunes.  (You can get there by Store > View My Account, and follow through.)  The "Total Price" of each purchase is listed there, with sales tax included.  Each purchase should match an item on  your credit card.
If you had a credit balance in  your account (e.g. from a gift card), iTunes will take that first before going against your credit card.

  • Setting Sales Tax for in State ONLY??

What we have here is a failure to communicate...  Either it is a language problem with support or they can't explain the feature.
All the answers I 'm getting are NOT answers to the question I'm asking. And the document is not clear either.
I have clients who sell products who ONLY need to charge sales tax to customers in the same state (PA)  but BC is charging 6% to all customers regardless of location.  We realize now that we should not have set the tax on individual products to PA 6%  (although that is VERY counterintuitive), and we set up our tax code for the USA with all states being zero and pa being 6%.   Tech cannot tell me how I should be setting taxes globally for products. IT is almost as if this feature does not exist:
ME:   No,    This is not acceptable nor does it make any sense.
In the USA, for most companies,  we only charge sales tax to In state customers, not out of state customers.  Therefore we need to be able to set up a global tax NOT on the product and NOT on the Country, but upon the state ONLY.
If this option is not available, it is a worthless system.

There are two proper ways to add tax.
    1. Add tax to shipping options: In this case, you create tax codes and shipping options too. Now, you add tax code to the shipping option as per the customer's destination country. Add a shipping option, and select the tax code in the shipping option. This is the more widely used method of applying tax. From what I had seen, you didn't create any shipping options yet, hence the confusion.
    2. Add tax directly to the product: This is what you had done. This will, as you have already mentioned, apply the tax to the product, irrespective of the customer's address details.
    Hope this clarifies the situation.
    Cheers.
You can set it as not applicable. If you apply tax to the product level, it will apply the tax to all orders for that product. To apply tax to all orders regardless of the visitor's location, you can apply tax at a product level. Check this document:http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/partner/tax-codes.html

Your question is really inappropriate to the Apple Discussions. The AD is a user-to-user forum for helping with technical problems and questions for Apple products. Sales taxes is certainly not one of those topics.
However, to answer your question. If your friend purchases a Mac in the Apple store or if you purchase it via the online store taxes will be charged. Sales taxes in the US are typically between 6-8 percent of the purchase cost depending upon the state in which it is purchased. There are a few states that do not levy sales taxes such as Nevada and Montana.
In addition when your friend takes the computer into your country you will likely be charged with import duties and taxes as well. If it's your expectation that this ploy will save you some money I wouldn't count on it.

  • Sales Tax for the new iMac

I'm sorry, I know this is probably not the right place to pose a question about sales tax, but I could not find the right category =/
If you think I should re-write this question in another category, I will
So, my situation is: I live in Brazil, and I have a friend who's going to the US in October. She is going to buy the new iMac for me.
I read on Apple's website that Sales Tax may apply. In which cases? If my friend goes to the retail store (instead of ordering it's shipment), does she has to pay this tax? how much is it normally? Does it depend on the State?
(And I only ask this because it's really not clear at apple.com and I don't know how sales tax work in the US...)
so thank you for your help!

  • Sale tax to edge up?

My phone is eligible to edge up. Will they still charge me sales tax on the full amount of the new phone?

    Ljordan285 wrote:
They charged me sales tax on full price of four phones. That hurt!
    Why would it hurt?
    example
iPhone 6 full price $650 sales tax in my area 9.75% total sales tax=$63.38
    iPhone 6 o upgrade $200 plus $30 upgrade fee=$230 sales tax=$22.43 + $30 upgrade fee=$52.43
    So about $11 difference.

  • Sales tax internet purchases

Does anyone know of an authorized reseller site that does not charge sales tax on out of state purchases?
J&R? Others? About to by a mac pro. Thanks.

Be careful...the sales tax rule is very localized, so others not living in your state could be giving wrong advice. A store is required to charge sales tax if they have operations in your state. So if Joe Blow from 3 states away tells you Company X charges no sales tax, but Company X is in your state, they may be required to charge you sales tax anyway.
Therefore, you should do the research yourself based on where you live, or ask friends in the same state.
In addition, while a store may not charge sales tax to you, your state may still require you to make up the difference by paying an equivalent Use Tax. Most people ignore that, though, even though it's technically illegal.

I have a new Samsung phone and I live in CT. Last month they charged me $38 on my bill for the sales tax for the new phone which was $600. I'm paying for the phone itself over 20 installments of $30 each.  Now again I'm getting that same $38 charge. I can't  believe that the monthly CT tax is higher than the payment for the phone itself. Does this make sense. Last time I spoke with them on the phone it was for 1 1/4 hours for something simple. I don't want to call unless I need to. The salesman told me nothing about any of this. Thank you for any help you can offer.

The bill from last month states:
    CT state sales tax**     $38.10
** In some states sales tax or surcharges are calculated on the full cost of the full retail price or VZW cost of the device you purchased and not on the discounted price you pay. The sales tax or surcharges charged on your device was based on $599.99 and appears on this first bill.
The current bill says the same.
Actually, now I'm realizing that last month's bill stated I was making the first payment toward the phone. Now this month also says it's the first payment toward the phone when it's really the second.

How can I contact iTunes regarding incorrect charges being made to my credit card in order to obtain a Credit and to stop repetitive charging?
I am finding it very difficult to navigate the iTunes support line and would be grateful if anyone can help me.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History on your computer.
Currently, if your purchase happens to be your most recent purchase you will not be redirected to the report form, in this case use the report a problem option from the invoice that was emailed to you.

  • Accrued Sales Tax Amount  & Vendor Charged Sales Tax amount

    Hi,
I need to Genertate a Report for Sales Tax. Please suggest TABLE & FIELDS names & information  of
    +Accrued Sales Tax Amount+
& Vendor Charged Sales Tax amount
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Harshita......
Think why you want to change the Tax Amount at transaction level?
Because you want to match the figure with the Hard Copy.
So if you change the Tax Amount at Outgoing Excise Invoice level then how Delivery And its AR Invoice Total will be vary?
By the way If you see the JV of Delivery it is not at all matched with AR Invoice provided Purchase Cost should not be equalt to Sales Cost.
Delivery is only concern with stock not value.....
SO there wont be any problem I guess......

  • HT5557 Why is British Columbia sales tax being charged on iBooks when BC's own documentation says that electronic books are exempt from sales tax?

I recently bought a book on iBooks and on the invoice realized that provincial sales tax (pst) was charge. As I knew books were pst exempt, I went to look at the government's website to see if they mention electronic books. I found the aptly named "What's taxable and what's not" (http://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/topic/BED47DA4EBDBA60A5F28622B8B2E1451/uploads/ whats_taxable_whats_not.pdf) and started looking. On the first page, it distinctly says electronic books are exempt.
So, my question is - why are we getting charged tax when our government says that electronic books are tax exempt?

no, that's not a reason you would use a class file.
anyway, your document class variables are defined on the main timeline so to reference them from any timeline you can use:
MovieClip(root).w36;  // for example  (but it's really undesirable to have coding in more than one timeline)

  • Sales Tax Refund and Please Stop Charging Me?

    Hi,
I've tried contacting Adobe about this before but was fobbed off with "Database is 'Down'''.
Basically I'm a Canadian client, in Canada paying with a Canadian Company credit card.
I've noticed that when Adobe bills me I'm also being charged a US sales tax which should not be applicable
to an international customer like myself. The Adobe division that bills me is in the US with a US address.
    I have two questions:
1 - How do I get you to stop charging me the US taxes going forward?
2 - How do I get a refund on the taxes I should not have paid?
    Thanks in advance.
    Gavin

I have send you an  E-mail, please respond to it. The account that you have is not tax exempted, you shall have to provide the Tax exempt certificate to get t ax exempt.
