ITunes/iPod gone crazy

ok, my hard drive recently crashed and i had to upload iTunes again. and since i wasn't able to back up my iTunes file, i used TouchCopy to take all the songs off my iPod and load them onto iTunes. afterwards i loaded a few more cd's into iTunes and restored my iPod to orginal settings to load everything back onto it. after syncing my iPod i scrolled through to check and make sure everything was there, but as soon as i got to the last artist on my iPod (notice: i was using the coverflow) it had a bunch of other cd's tagged on the end not in order. what's going on with this? can anyone help me? any help would be greatly appreciated

and if helps any, i noticed that all the albums that had been tagged at the end of the coverflow that are not in alphabetical order and ones that i have updated since i loaded all my songs onto iTunes

  • IPod gone crazy in pretty much, every sense.

So, I had used my iPod Classic 80GB (the 2007 or 2008 version, I think) for about a year, daily and everything was swell (most of the time). Then, last Christmas I got a brand-new iPod Touch 4G which I instantly started using so my iPod Classic got removed from the computer with it's lead and got stuck inside a drawer beside me. Now, after about 3 months, I've decided that I shall be using the old, classic for music purposes (much larger memory) and the iPod touch for everything else. The problem is that I got the iPod out of the drawer yesterday (and I hadn't even touched it since it went into the drawer at Christmas) and the OS (I guess) has gone completely mad. Initially I thought it was a problem with artwork only (I'm a perfection maniac about the song managment on my iPod, in other words, every tune has artwork, certain format, genre etc) and whenever I played a tune, the wrong artwork would come up (I could recgonise it by the name of the song that it was obviously wrong). I didn't know what to do so I checked if it's something to do with iTunes but whenever I checked the artwork in iTunes, it seemed fine (just like it should've been) so I went back to iPod and checked on the artwork again but this time I attempted to press the "Next" button and to my surrprise, the song didn't change, it just reseted (as if you had pressed the "Back" button). Now I was really convinced that my iPod is f*ed so I plugged in my headphones to see if there's any sound and it was but the odd thing is that the song matched with the artwork (remember, when I said that the song title didn't match artwork). Now I'm fairly confused as to what I should do next. I tried Reset on the actual iPod but it didn't have any effect (it reseted but didn't fix my problem).

Follow the steps in this guide to see if any help, although I think a restore would probably be your best bet. Might be worth checking for any firmware updates as well.

  • ITunes has gone crazy in Mountain Lion - HELP!

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion, and now iTunes appears to take over my computer whenever I have my iPhone, iPod or iPad attached. If I switch to another app, the computer switches back to iTunes after a few seconds. If I quit iTunes, it starts up again by itself.
Ejecting the devices in the column browser seems to stop this behavior from happening, but that means I cannot sync or charge my devices while I'm trying to do anything else on my computer.

I don't have iTunes misbehaving so badly, taking over as if to posses the computer. However it does seem to be trying real hard to do something! After being open a couple hours, ripping a couple CD's it begins to use excessive CPU 50 - 70 % on my 2011 MBP i7 8GB. The tempature then raises excessively. I use iStat and Fan Control to keep it tamed. It is obvious it is iTunes because once it wants to creep over 170 degrees F with fans at 4100 RPM I feel compelled to close it. CPU usage and temputare decrease to normal immediately.
Just upgraded to Mountain Lion. Have suffered the wireless hang, and now this.

  • My ipods gone crazy

after recieving it back from apple with 'no problems' my music in itunes still wont go onto my ipod. and ive just clicked it to update and the ipod ejected itself and now theres a flashing apple logo on the screen whats going on?!

In windows, there should be a lil baby sized green arrow next to the clock in the bottom right corner. This is windows "Safly Remove Hardware" program. Try to use it to disconnect the ipod.
If it doesn't work and says something like "Application still using device" (Caused by antivirus and windows itself) shut down the PC, unplug the ipod, reset the ipod then turn the PC back on and plug it in

  • ITunes library gone crazy

My iTunes library on my PC is suddenly schizenophrenic. Artists, albums, songs, and artwork are no longer properly associated. I clicked on a Rev. Gary Davis song yesterday and N.W.A. started playing! The only possible cause I can think of is I recently compressed one of my hard drives to save space. However, my music library is stored on another drive. My PC is seven years old & runs WinXP. Does anyone have an idea what could cause this problem or how I might fix it?

    Hi Jose,

  • ITunes Sorting gone crazy - please advise!!!

    Hello All!
I've recently refreshed my PC and reinstalled iTunes (9.2.1.5) and I imported my library back into it so I could get back to business as usual, but this time iTunes decided to start acting a fool.
Typically, my library is sorted by Album Artist, that way if I have an album that has multiple artists, I can keep them intact under iTunes without having a thousand different entries for the same album. Then, under that everything sorts out just fine - there's no need to worry about the tracks being out of order or any other silliness.
However this time, I have had to fight to get the albums to display properly. Many of them come up as "unknown artist, unknown album" on the cover flow, even when the file info is fully intact. I usually have to tinker with each album 5 or six times to get this to go away, which has become especially time consuming.
But that's not what really irks me. After everything gets sorted properly for an album, the stupid tracks are out of order - for no reason at all! There is no pattern that iTunes is using to sort the track numbers, as I have checked each field to figure out what is going on... I know there is no way to sort by album artist, then by track number, but this program should be smart enough to figure out something as basic as that!
    What gives???

You can allocate extra memory to a Java program by putting something like
    java -Xmx256m Myclass
That should tell you if running out of memory is really your problem.
Memory from abandoned items isn't recovered until the JVM decides to do a "garbage collection" which it doesn't usually bother with until it finds memory a bit tight.
You shouldn't cast byte input to char. In Java a character is a 16 bit UNICODE code value, and it's relationship with bytes depends on the "character encoding", by default the one native to your operating system.
If you want to read character input from a file etc. then use a Reader not an InputStream. If necessary you can "wrap" an input stream in an InputStreamReader object.
If you want to read it from the user in a Swing program then use an input field of some sort.

  • Argh! My itunes has gone crazy!

Ok, so I tried to listen to a song in itunes today, but when I pressed play it just ran through all the songs in a random order, without stopping to play them.... it's v. weird, i've looked through all the settings and can't see anything that could be causing it. It's never done this before and I haven't changed any settings since I used it last night. Does anyone know why it's doing this and how I can fix it?
    Thnaks

Glad to hear you got things working again, Claire.
I had an IT friend of mine come over and it turns out it was the firewall, it wouldn't let iTunes have access to certain things so he granted it permission and it was instantly fixed.
Thank you kindly for reporting back about your resolution. Apologies for the nosy question, but which make of firewall are you using? (Although I've seen firewall permissions implicated in other iTunes problems, I hadn't seen one associated with a "transparent" iTunes before ... so I was thinking it might be worth checking on the possibility with other folks reporting a transparent iTunes where the DirectX and/or video drivers don't seem to be involved.)

  • Ipod gone crazy

hi there just got a brand new 5 generation ipod and dudes is doing weired things. let me just tell you i already posses an old ipod mini for 2 years and never experienced any problems. anyhow mz ipod is basically not playing any music anzmore!! its wiered because you can still hear the sound the wheel makes and once connected to a computer you can play the songs via the computer. first i thought it might be due to the fact that i use both a pc and a mac and somehow that screwed up the software but even once i restored the ipod and just uploaded music either from pc or mac it was still happening. there was never any traumatic event to it so it should be a software problem. i mean i can still view the song titels but it just wont start playing the damm things. anzway maybe one of you guys has experienced something similar and can help me

Welcome to Apple Discussions from a soon to be resident of your state <g>.
Most likely explanation is a drive letter conflict -- see if doing this helps any:

Otherwise use the firmware updater to restore and completely resync and all will be well.

  • Tried to sync iPod Touch, noted "new" iTunes. iPod won't sync ("iTunes is unable to load data class information from Sync Services"). Tried the fix, but iTunes hangs when I try to open Preferences.

Just tried to download new audiobooks to my iPod Touch 3, and noted new iTunes. iPod won't sync ("iTunes is unable to load data class information from Sync Services"). Tried to Reset Sync History per Support Article, but it didn't work. My purchased audiobooks are also gone from my iTunes Library.  Any fix, or is my best bet to uninstall new iTunes and reload earlier version??

  • Help with my itunes/ipod

Please can someone help......I am a complete novice with itunes and ipod and i seem to be having some difficulty....I have managed to download all my music into itunes and have also managed to sync the music to my ipod however everytime I try and add new songs it 'syncs' the complete library again and as I have so many songs it takes a very long time to sync (about 35 mins). I have tried setting up a playlist and just ssyncing the playlist however then all the other music disaapears from my ipod and only the few songs in the playlist remain. Does itunes have to sync everything everytime I plug my ipod in? Is there anyway that I can keep all my music on my ipod and just add new songs and not have to sync the whole library time after time? I would really appreciate some help. I have tried the online tutorials but they are not answering my question
    Many thanks
    Amanda

Depending on the size of your library, memory, processor speed etc, iTunes can spend a long time deciding which tracks might need to be updated on the iPod but unless something has gone wrong it should then only copy new or updated tracks and delete those you have removed from your library. My almost full 160gb iPod has just taken about 20 mins to sync, with only the last minute or so being used to transfer ~100 updated files.
If all your files are being copied each time you sync then I suspect the iPod library is getting corrupted. One possible cause for this is an irritating feature called write-behind caching. It could be that when you eject the iPod, iTunes decides it's finished and asks for the device to be disconnected when Windows still has data to write to the disk.
    *Disable write-behind caching*
Right-click on your iPod in *My Computer* and select Properties and then the tab that says Hardware. Highlight the selection that says *Apple iPod USB Device* and select Properties. Under the tab that says Policies make sure that *Optimize for quick removal* is checked.
While I would generally recommend auto-sycning if it is not working well for you then you might try switching to the manually manage option in which case you get to control manually which tracks are added to or removed from the iPod. This can be a much faster way to add a few tracks but makes it much harder to keep information in the iTunes & iPod libraries in step.

  • New Hard Drive - purchased iTunes are gone

Recently i had to have my hard drive replaced.. the guys from Best Buy's Geek Squad managed to salvage "my documents," which contained my iTunes music folder. When i transferred all the data to my new hard drive, the only music files that were on there were the ones i had transferred directly from cd.. all of my purchased iTunes are GONE.
Is there a way to get them back? I'm missing about 800 songs!! ..and there's NO WAY i'm paying for them all over again.
    Someone PLEASE help!!
    Thanks.
    Nicole.

If you have the My Music Folder, they should be there in your play list. Are you saying that these songs are not there? I thought that all songs get put into this folder. I would suggest looking again under compilations, etc. Secondly, there are some things that can be done to recover these songs from your iPod, but I don't have any experience in this and have no idea how to recommend that. You might try a Google for some help with this. Finally, buy a second HDD to back up your current HDD. It is absolutely critical. Best of luck!

  • Help, my system has gone crazy!

My imac G5 running Leopard, 10.58 Processor 18 GHz, Memory 2GB has gone crazy.  I cannot open ITunes.  If I try to download a small file it says my memory is nearly full and I need to clear disk space.  Okay I have a few songs on iTunes and 7,900 photos on iPhoto, but that is all.  I try to open a document in Word and it says 'you are working without a Word work file and your memory is nearly full'. I am not receiving e-mails when I know they have been sent. What is happening?

Don't worry about Filevault, likely you're not using it if you don't know what it is, but...
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FileVault
Less than 2GB free is very dangerous, you could loose everything as it's not really free space for our use.
An 80GB drive is really too small for later versions of OSX, you need to free up at the very least another 10 to 20GB.

  • My 3GS has gone crazy

I have a 3Gs that has gone crazy. Out of a sudden, voice control starts, plays music and even makes calls sometimes, the phone starts switching between applications (closes and opens them) and I can't do anything to stop it even when I touch the cancel button. It does this over and over again. At the same time this problem happened, the home button stopped working. Well it works sometimes when I restart the phone but not always. I don't think it's a matter of pressing the button hard because when it works, it's always the same press I use as before.
I upgraded to iOS4 but the problem still exists. I hope someone out there can give a hand.
    Thanks

I did restore the device couple of times and I still have the same problem .. And on more thing, everytime I restored it, I get a msg on iTunes that the device is in recovery mode and that I had to restore the device!!
