Itunes on macbook freezing

Itunes on my macbook started freezing after I turned on homesharing on Itunes and began backing up my system using Time Capsule. Whenever I insert a CD itunes locks up completely. My operating system is up to date-- 10.7.4.
I have a new Mac Mini and tried to migrate my Itunes files to it but Itunes was froze and the files couldn't move over.
I would appreciate any ideas.

Since I moved from Belgium to Australia following problem occurs:
- When my Macbook Pro (OS X Lion 10.7.5) gets out of (screen)sleepmode when running music on iTunes the computer freezes and the song that was playing gets stuck on the last note.
- When I close Itunes and I have another (soundcard using?) application running, for instance Skype, everything is fine, just untill I close that application. If I close it, the entire computer freezes again. Same problem occures when using Garage Band, DivX, QuickTime, iMovie,... in combination with iTunes.
Could this problem have anything to do with me moving to a different country (area conflict...)?
In order to use iTunes without freezing the computer I now have to close every application that's running before opening iTunes and restarting the computer every time I stop using iTunes. Is there a solution for my problem?

Well...I was partially-blind.
I had a second look at my MSCONFIG list...and 'waay down at the bottom was iTunesHelper...with its checkbox clear. oops.
I ticked it of course, and then manually launched iTunesHelper.exe and re-connected the iPhone. iTunes auto-launched, and (as usual) it stepped thru the various stages like it's supposed to, but still no pop-up message on the iPhone screen.
Now I'm wondering if that came to an end when I made the jump to the iPhone5 from iPhone4(?) because it certainly seems to be syncing alright...just no pop-up on the iPhone's screen.

I've had my mac for less than a month and for the first time I put in a disc. I can hear a laser sort of noise as well as the disc flapping about or a motor sort of sound? Sounds really bad to me :/

Sounds like a hardware issue.
Did you buy the system from Apple? If so how recent is recent? If it is new you have 14 days to return it, not sure what the situation is with refurb systems. If it is over 14 days you should still have warranty support make an appointment at an Apple Store or contact Apple support.
If you bought it from someone other then Apple you will need to contact them.

Why my new macbook freezes?

It's exactly the 5th times that my new macbook freezes! I don't understand why! The screen remains like a screenshot, it's all blocked! And I can't do anything eccept force shoutdown by holding pressed the shutdown button!
I don't understand if it's an hardware or software problem. I copied the system.log of the last freeze, so I paste it here, hoping you'll help me

Boot (hold shift key down) and run in Safe Mode for awhile. See what happens.

MacBook freezes on startup

Problem: MacBook freezes with the blue background and "Mac OS X" dialogue box upon startup.
What I've done about it(without success): Turned it on while pressing the "Option" key, clicked on the image of HD that comes up, but to no avail. Still freezes at blue screen with "Mac OS X" box.
Background: I updated iTunes, Quicktime, and a security update from Intel last night. Downloaded iTunes from the apple website, installed, and ran it. Was updating Quicktime/intel update using Software Update. While things were downloading, I was browsing in Safari, when Safari froze. I Forced Quit Safari, then tried to turn it back on. However, Safari wasn't responding, so I decided to restart. Please note that when I clicked on restart, the Software Update was not running in the background. Typically, it prompts me to install the updates after downloading, but I got no such message this time. Macbook failed to turn on and got stuck at the aforementioned screen. I turned it off by holding the power button, didnt bother with it overnight, then tried it again this morning with out success. Even after waiting for about 30 mins, I couldn't get past the blue screen with OS X dialogue box.
Questions: So, what do you think I should do? I have some pretty important stuff that I havn't backup-ed recently. Is there any way to solve this problem at home, or do I need to send the computer to an apple store? And if I do need to get a new computer or reinstall OS X, is there a way to transfer the stuff from my current HD without losing them all?

i have the same problems, has what that guy suggested work, i have also checked the hardware to see if that was the problem by installing the install disk 1 and it wasnt the prob so i tried to eject the disk and it doesnt come out. i have no idea what to do

2009 MacBook freezes

I bought my McBook in Nov. 2009 and part-exchanged my old Toshiba laptop for an extra 2GB of memory.
Best deal in town, IMHO, but the problem is that my Mac has had a tendency to freeze, completely out of the blue.
Sometimes it will be no start-up and very often when viewing Video, either streamed, on CD or from iTunes downloads.
Is the RAM faulty?
Thanks in advance for all expert opinions. I read some posts on the subject, from 2009, but I wondered whether more may be known now about this fault.

It might happen other times, but I notice it the most when I'm streaming the radio through itunes, though I think it's also happened when I'm streaming music or shows from NPR, so I don't actually know if it's an itunes thing, or an internet thing? Or just my computer being stupid? But how can I fix it?

My best guess at this point is a problem wwith 10.5.8
It seems clear to me that sometimes, seemingly randomly, software will access the video card (flash player, quicktime, Safari's HTML5 video player, etc) and it will cause a freeze and then log out.
However - it could just be video card + processor under load.
This didnt happen before 10.5.8 and I'm thinking it's not the new 27" display causing the issue.
I'm going to attempt to find time to revert back to 10.5.0 and then combo update back up to 10.5.7 which may be difficult as our IT is remote and we don't have access to Snow Leopard discs.
I may just have to bring my own in.

MacBook freezing - 13" 2GB 2x2.4Ghz

1.4 years old (ish) MacBook freezes when using iTunes, VLC, firefox and quite a few others. I get the spinning ball and i can only switch apps a few times before the thing totally freezes - the mouse pointer moves, but nothing else works.
I had this problem and thought it might be the OS, so did erase & install. Repairing the internal HD from disk utility (in the installer) checked out fine. Software update on new install to 10.5.6, but it still happens, with only a minimum of apps installed.
I think it's the HD, but why did it check out OK in Disk Utility?

RAM can and does fail, it's possible that is what is occurring. You can take a look at Activity Monitor to see how the RAM is being used and how much is free. You can also run Apple Hardware Test and see if that detects any errors. You can locate AHT at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
If you find any errors then if you're under warranty still or have AppleCare (highly recommended) the problem would be covered.
Another thought I had is 2 GB is almost nothing these days and you would see a nice performance increase if you upgraded it to 4 or 8 GB. By replacing the RAM that would almost certainly eliminate failing RAM. To upgrade to 4 GB is only about $52 and 8 GB is about $118.

MacBook freezes and refuse to connect to the net

My macbook freezes during online streaming and repeats the last syllables. It also refuse to connect to the internet 8 out of 10 times. And it is freeze without any reason at all at least twice a day. It is extremely annoying. I reinstalled the operating system completely deleted everything from my computer it worked until i done a software update. Can anyone tell me which software update causing this ? Or it was just coincidental? Or it is a virus? What should i do ?

Freezes are often cause by hard drive issues. You might try running DiskWarrior to rebuild your disk's directory or do a low-level reformat of the drive using the "Zero out data" option under Security Options.

I When ever I try to open iTunes, it immediately freezes and says "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close."

I am using a Windows 7 laptop, 64 bit. When ever I try to open iTunes, it immediately freezes and says "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." I have tried uninstalling then reinstalling, and also going back to previous versions. Any ideas as to how to fix this? Thanks!!

You need to remove all installer file, uninstall iTunes and all related programs, then do a clean install.
Try the following steps:
1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:

Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
iTunes
QuickTime
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

Everything is updated!! iPhone, iPad, iTunes and MacBook Pro... All I am trying to do is drag content from my iTunes Library to the devices. iTunes gets stuck EVERY single time! What usually triggers the Non-Sense is when I am adding a 2nd file!

1) Many items greyed out in the menu bar, for well over 2 years, maybe more!
2) I Can't drag more than one piece of content from your iTunes library to any device (iPhone, iPad)
If you do it gets stuck for HOURS and HOURS in "Preparing To Update" and the little activity circle never completes, ever!!
I used to be able to drag over 1000 tunes, movies, etc. go have breakfast come back and it would all be on my device!!
Can't do it anymore, one song at a time, maybe an album at a time, or one movie, and that is it!!
If you do a 2nd item the other items stop loading and never continue!!
This is so BAD, I don't understand how they don't have this fixed yet!!
Please tell me I am not the only one!!
...and If I am tell me how to fix it!

Macbook freezes with Error Message in a Black Box and asks for reboot.

Now here is new problem (i dont know if specifically macbook related or something to do with Mac software). I have faced this thrice today.....
Suddenly my Macbook freezes and in the center of the screen I get a black transparent box (quite big) with error message written in few languages. It simply asks me to hold down the power button for sometime to reboot the Macbook. I have found the Macbook freezes completely, no working keys, trackpad, etc all disabled. And after I push the power button the macbook shutsdown.
On rebooting there is no problem at all, i just loose all the work that was open...
Can someone tell if there is some remedy.. or what needs to be done.... Also is this hardware related or software...
I must mention my macbook is also have RSD problems...

What you are seeing is the message that results from what is known as a kernel panic: a serious error usually caused by some sort of hardware malfunction. The path to debug this is to make sure you unplug any external devices you have attached (if any) and see if the problem persists. If you still have the problem, it could mean a bad video card, logic board, RAM, RAM slot, etc. If you have RSD, then you already know you have a hardware problem, and this is just more evidence of it. Time to go to an Apple Certified Repair shop and have them look at it.

my itunes 10.5 freezes when i plug in my iPhone4. I have been trying to update my iPhone4 to the new iOS5 but Itunes freezes everytime I plug in the iphone. My Ipad and my wifes 3GS does not have this problem. Thoughts?
