ITunes playlist migration

Hi,
I bought a MacBook Pro 17'' 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and I would like to know if it is possible to mgrate only the playlist that I have created on my iMac G5, or eventualy, only iTunes data & settings.
I still don't have a firewire cable, I'm going to get it today, but with it I could use the Migration Assistant, but is it possible to migrate only that specific application (iTunes) or it works only by bringing on my new MacBook Pro everything which is on my iMac G5 ?
Is it possible to do the same operation with .Mac ?
Thanks & Cheers
Gianni

.Mac is no help. I have to admit that I am not certain, because the first Library was on a PPC, and you now have an Intel machine. There may be 2 ways to do this:
1. Simply drag the entire iTunes folder in your ~/Music folder, or
2. Ask the new iTunes to import the old Library, while the old machine is mounted in Target Mode.
I like the second way better.

  • ITunes Playlists migration?

I want to do a clean install of leopard, and I was wondering how I could save my playlists. I plan to use Senuti to move my music from my iPod touch to my computer, but I don't think I will be able to migrate my many playlists. What is the easiest way to save my playlists?

I recently transferred files and settings from my old eMac (Tiger 10.4.11) to my new MacBook Pro (10.6.3) using Migration Assistant. The MBP was rebuilt and had no other software installed, only the new OS.
In my iTunes folder, all songs, apps and movies transferred. However, when I open iTunes (v10), my songs and artwork in my Library are visible; my movies are viewable, but none of my apps are showing in the 'Apps' window. Also, none of my previous playlists are available on the MBP.
Am I missing something? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
I understand you migrated from a eMac (PPC Mac) to a MBP (iNtel Mac). Check out these articles:

Now how do I transfer my dell iTunes playlists from my dell to my iMac, as they are showing on the iMac when I plug in my iPod but it's not allowing to me to play them as they are shaded? I have also separately transferred all my music via my external drive from my dell to my iMac which is showing in iTunes but won't upload to my iPod... Just to confuse you even more my AppleTV which is linked to my log in email address and home sharing is showing and playing all the playlists I want to see on my iMac... Phew that was exhausting hope you understand and can help me:-)

You may have transferred all your songs, but your iPad is seeing the library as a different entity.

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.

  • I can't get my itunes playlists to sync now that I had to get new computer.  My library is still there and the playlists show and I can even add to my playlists. But as soon as it goes to sync it says it can't find all the songs that used to be there.

I can't get my itunes playlists to sync now that I had to get a new computer.  They all appear in my library and show in my playlists.  I can even download new songs from the itunes store to those playlists but when it syncs only the new songs go on the ipod.  It says it can't find any of my "old" songs and puts an exclamation mark beside them.  I am clueless when it comes to these things.  Advice please!  We have three ipods on this account trying to figure it out.

You can only sync to one computer.
You would have to transfer purchases, but the apple ID would need to be the same.
Or find a 3rd party app to transfer content.

  • How do I move all my itunes playlists from an old Dell desktop to a Dell laptop without losing anything?

My Dell desktop is on its last legs and I need to transfer all itunes playlists from it to my Dell laptop. Please help

Yes I copied the itunes folder. Before I copied it I opened up to see what was in it: album artwork, itunes, itunes media, previous itunes libraries, itunes library extras, itunes library genius, itunes library, itunes music library. After copying and pasting the itunes folder I checked my new laptop and the same files listed above copied over.
When I drill down the itunes folder to the music, it's on my new laptop. When I open itunes and click on playlists, I only have the music that I purchased from itunes. It does not include everything else I loaded into itunes and any other playlists I created.

  • Can I get all the ipads in school (18) to access the same itunes playlist?

Can I get all the ipads in school (18) to access the same itunes playlist? We want to use the ipads to create movies but need music, we want to legally download music and let the children have access to the same playlist, can we do this and how? preferably without downloading the same track 18 times?

we would ideally use Icloud, my home account has 1 iphone and two ipods that share the same user and playlists etc, ideally I would want to create this but over the 18 ipads in school, I do however use the usb to update them so If i can do it via a sync on Icloud that would be better?

  • How to restore *just one iTunes playlist* from Time Machine?

    Hi all --
I'm pretty picky about my iTunes playlists. There are several main ones ("Jazz Lite," "R&B," "Jazz Traditional," etc. etc.) and these playlists can overlap in their coverage/share certain songs.
So last Sunday I realized that I had fat-fingered things and had accidentally deleted the R&B playlist.
If possible I'd like to surgically restore *just that R&B playlist* from Time Machine and include it among all of the other existing playlists.
Although I've searched around on the internet for an answer, everything that has turned up so far seems to involve:
    - restoring ALL playlists from Time Machine
    - older version of iTunes (I'm currently using 11.0.3)
    Your help greatly appreciated!

For posterity's sake, since i had this issue too, i thought i'd post my solution.
Locate and save a copy, locally on your computer, of a library.itl file that would contain the playlist you need. I'd suggest saving to your desktop. name it so you'll recognize it as the old library file.
Quit iTunes if open, and relaunch, holding down the Option key immediately after
    when prompted, select "Choose Library"
Find the file you saved in step 1. this will launch iTunes with all the old playlists and such. Don't worry, it doesn't touch the actual songs themselves, so nothing is lost of from your current library.
Find the playlist(s) you want, right click on them and export. save them as .txt file (again, suggest desktop for ease)
Once all playlists you want to restore are saved, quit iTunes.
Launch iTunes, again pressing Option immediately after
Select "Choose Library" and select the Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Library.itl file. This will restore iTunes to the most current copy of your library
Select File -> Library -> Import Playlist and find the .txt file for your playlist on your desktop. et voila!

  • HT1727 how do i transfer itunes playlists on my mac to a thumb drive to use in my car       e in my car?

How do i transfer itunes playlists and/or individual songs onto a thumb drive on my apple desktop computer -- I want to play the songs in my car which requires the thumb drive.  thanks

Easily done.  Insert the flash drive into your computer, and open it so it looks like a folder.  In iTunes, highlight the tracks you want (or use CTRL+A to highlight an entire list at once) and drag them into that open folder.
If you normally run iTunes in full-screen mode, make it smaller so that you can do the drag.
The only complication may be the format.  Many iTunes users use AAC format, which is rejected by many car players.  If that is an issue, you can first use iTunes to convert the songs to the more convenient MP3 format, by this guide:

  • How Do I Move iTunes Playlists/Settings only to new computer

I have an iMac G5 (10.5.8) where where my iTunes sofware is located...however all the songs that the iTunes program accesses are located on an external hard drive. (iMac G5 Hard Drive not big enough to hold all the songs)
I have a MacBook (10.6.7) that I want to run my itunes software from instead of the G5...while I keep all the songs that the program access on my external hard drive where the songs already exist.
So to summarize, I just want to move my itunes playlists and settings from my G5 over to my MacBook, but leave all the songs on the external hard drive.
Can anyone answer how to accomplish this?  Thank you.

  • How do I transfer music from my itunes playlist to my iphone?

How do I transfer music from my itunes playlist to my iphone?

Maddening!!!!! What used to work now doesn't!
Where did simple drag and drop go? Apple invented it!
I have an iPhone 5s and want to transfer Playlists from my desktop iMac to the iPhone. I have had these products since their first releases years ago. I am a computer power user. What used to be a simpe "drag and drop" of your Playlist (yes, in Column View which I have turned on now) to your iPhone was easy and you were set. It is now impossible to do. Or easily!
There are been other posts on this. I have tried them all. None work or the explanations are not adequate.
WHY IS THIS SAME **** HARD WHEN IT USED TO BE DRAG AND DROP?
PS: Fire the iTune Product Manager who did this version..get Jony Ive on the case to fix the User Interface Design ASAP!

  • How do I find camera roll photos after backing up my iPad in iTunes before migrating to iOS8 then back to iOS7?

I recently, mistakenly, migrated my iPad to iOS8. In less than a day I concluded iOS8 was not for me, I migrated back to IOS 7.  I backed up the iPad in iOS8 using iTunes before migrating back and now find that my camera roll has gone.  I realise that iOS8 put the photos somewhere else (witness the posts here and in other Mac forums complaining that their camera rolls are 'gone') but shouldn't they have been backed up in iTunes?
I was able to retrieve all the apps from the backup but there was no camera roll.  Where in the iOS8 backup should they be now?  I'm afraid that I haven't figured out a connection from posts describing where the camera roll pictures went in iOS8 to be able to work backwards and restore them.
Can anyone please describe how I might be able to retrieve the Camera Roll?

    You cannot.
You should be importing them regularly as you would with any digital camera.
Did you not import them before restoring?

  • Is there any way that I can have songs in an iTunes Playlist without having the songs play in my regular music list.  For instance: can I have a Playlist of Christmas songs without having them play in the routine shuffle of my music library?  Thanks -Rog

Select the songs, press CTRL+I to Get Info, on the Options tab set Skip when shuffling to Yes.
If you want to the hide the songs from your main music view you could consider changing the media kind to audiobooks or podcasts if you don't mind the side effect of them showing up there instead.
