Itunes (&Quicktime) "Fatal Error"  -HELP

Having serious problems out of nowhere using I-Tunes. Dont use it everyday and not sure of when started. Seems that Quicktime folder in program files will not allow ADMIN to delete. Tried to set permissions to all program files, but this file would not allow it. This file stays after deleting Quicktime from control panel and with Window Install clean up. Same error seen after older version installs as I was able to go C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\QuickTime7x\QuickTime msi, double click on QuickTime msi and click repar or install Quicktime install cache and install these older versions - but get same error. Fatal Error after install goes through and I click on the ICON to use.
Dont have any errors during the actual install or when uninstalling, just doesnt seem to go through after it finishes up.
I believge the first error (and still comes up) is a Application Error from eventvwr.msc logs states:
Detection of product '{5D601655-6D54-4384-B52C-17EC5385FBBD}', feature 'iTunes', component '{E8A1D3E2-F5D3-4B24-AB93-52F7E602A235}' failed. The resource 'C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe' does not exist.
Also did the following at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
Completely remove iTunes and QuickTime
Empty your Temp directory and restart
Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer
Download QuickTime Standalone Installer
Disable other conflicting software
Make sure your folder names don't contain strange characters
Still cant use ITUNES!!!

Absolutely nothing happens when I try to uninstall QuickTime. It goes through the uninstall process, but then it just stops. No error messages or anything.
I've been using the Windows "Uninstall a Program" feature because I haven't been able to start QuickTime.

  • QuickTime fatal error during uninstalling

I'm trying to install itunes on my 3 year old Gateway desktop at home so I can sync my iphone to it and not to my work laptop that needs to be turned in. When trying to install itunes it gives me a fatal error message when trying to update QuickTime. I tried to delete it using Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs and that, too, gives me a fatal error. I tried to remove it using an "Uninstall QuickTime" icon which gives me the option of uninstalling or repairing. I tried both and neither worked.
When I tried to run it using an icon it too gives me an error. I tried to run it using Control Panel. This gave me a different error. It said "An exception occured while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\QuickTime.cpl",QuickTIme".
Applecare suggested I find a board somewhere and tell them my problem and see if anyone there knows what to do.
I'm on XP if that matters.

Please help! I am adding to this post as I have the same problem as mibsterwon, but have different files and folders within the system32 folder and don’t want to remove something I should’nt.
First a brief history of what went wrong. A few days ago, I opened up iTunes and got a pop-up advising me that a newer version of iTunes (v10) was available for download. I downloaded the latest versions of iTunes and QuickTime, but noticed that the QuickTime installation did not complete. When I tried to open QuickTime, it would not open. I tried downloading QuickTime again on it’s own, but it still would not open. So, I tried uninstalling QuickTime. Big mistake!
First, I tried uninstalling it using the “Uninstall QuickTime” icon under Start > All Programs > QuickTime. It went through the uninstall process, but at the end I got an Apple message saying that there was a problem with the uninstall, which had been aborted. I then tried to uninstall QuickTime via Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. This time, the uninstall process started, but I got the “fatal error” message. Tried several times, but to no avail. However, the QuickTime icons on my desktop, start menu and systray have all disappeared (although I still have About QuickTime, PictureViewer and Apple Software Update on the Start menu).
Problem now, is that iTunes won’t open! I have tried downloading iTunes 10 + QuickTime again. It said that the installation was successful, but iTunes still won’t start and there is no QuickTime.
I have looked in my system32 folder and have the following 3 QuickTime files and 1 QuickTime folder:
    Files: QuickTime.qtp, QuickTime.qts, QuickTimeVR.qtx
QuickTime folder contains 7 QuickTime icons all ending in .qtx
There are no files or folders with iTunes in the name.
My OS is Windows XP SP3. Hope you can help.

  • ITunes / Quicktime Abort Error - **please help**

I just purchased an iPod and when I tried to upgrade to the new iTunes program I get the following error when it starts updating the components:
Could not open key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion|Uninstall\QuickTime. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
Then it says iTunes requires QuickTime and rolls back the installation. I installed QuickTime and got the same message...

First, ensure that your iTunes library has not been deleted or modified. Go Start->Music->iTunes. Ensure that a file that has a music note and a CD in the background is there that is named iTunes Library. Restart your computer if you haven't since this warning has appeared.
As soon as you click on iTunes, hold down the shift key and a message should come up saying "Choose a Library". Click "Choose Library" and navigate to your iTunes folder if it hasn't already done so for you already. Double click the file that says "iTunes Library" and it should load your library.

Unable to install GEAR driver set at this time. The GEARAspiWDM service use by the GEAR driver set is scheduled to be deleted during the next system reboot. Please reboot the system and run itunes again.

Does anyone know what to do because itunes is my favourite music/media player

okay, that's a 32-bit version then. (the x64 version says x64 in that screen.)
let's try seeing if we can get past this by preinstalling the GEAR drivers that iTunes uses for Importing and burning. the 32-bit GEAR drivers are available from the following page:
    GEAR drivers
does the GEAR driver install go through okay? if so, try rebooting the PC and doing another iTunes install. does it go through properly this time?

  • ITunes + Quicktime installation error

Originally, I attempted to upgrade my old version of iTunes to version 7.2.3, and at the end of the installation I receive an error saying:
+An error occurred while attempting to create the directory: C:\Program Files\Common Files+
I then uninstalled iTunes, and tried to reinstall it to see if it'd fix the problem. But I keep getting the same error message, and the installation will not continue.
Does anyone know what's wrong with it? And what can I do to fix this? Please help, I'd really appreciate it.

Given that it's idiosyncratic, let's try seeing if the *General Instalation Troubleshooting* section from the following document is of any help:
Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime software in Windows
... but if no joy there, let's try getting an installer log to the Apple Engineers for a look.
    1. Open a command prompt window. (Start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return.)
    2. Drag and drop iTunesSetup.exe onto the window so that the full pathname of the file is at the command line prompt.
    3. Type in a space, then the following line:
    /l*v C:\log.txt
    4. Hit return.
    5. The installer will create a log file:
    C:\log.txt
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address: [email protected]
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)

  • New Itunes/Quicktime Download Issues - Help!

I had gotten a automatic notice to upgrade Quicktime and Itunes, whioh I did. Needed to update anyway as I want to upgrade my Iphone. Now when I try to launch iTunes it tells me I have a Quicktime Issue and it will not open Itunes. After reading the help index, which tells you to remove Quicktime and reinstall and try again, I get the same error message. Now, it tells me to remove Itunes and reinstall? If I do that what happens to my music, images, etc? Do I lose anything or do I need a specific process to ensure I don't loose anything?
I have 75% backed up but without access to Itunes I cannot backup the remaining 25% before I try this removal and reinstall thing.
FYI- I am running XP. Any thougths, anyone...

  • ITunes/QuickTime/Windows Vista HELP!

    Hi,
I've been having this problem for several days now. I tried to open iTunes and it said there was an error and iTunes had to close. This happened several times, after many re-boots of my system. The 'solution' was to upgrade my iTunes (it's been a while since I've had an internet connection), but when I tried to install it gave me the following message:
+>>> The installation of QuickTime did not complete successfully. iTunes requires QuickTime.+
    followed by:
+...>>> The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again.+
I've tried installing multiple times with the same messages.
    I then tried to upgrade QuickTime on its own, to receive the following message error;
+...>>> The installer encountered errors before the requested operations for QuickTime could be completed. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again.+
I feel like I'm going round in circles! I've since uninstalled iTunes, but cannot uninstall QuickTime, and I keep getting the same error messages.
Can anybody point me in the right direction?
    Meg

  • Itune\quicktime installation error invalid G drive on Windows

    Hi,
I am trying to install Itunes 9 on a Thinkpad T61. When it gets to the quicktime phase, it says invalid G drive. I have tried going to the cmd prompt and performing Subst G: C:\, but after doing so it goes a little further, then says "the specified path is too long G:\lib". My only option is to cancel out. I have tried starting in my dock with external drive plugged in and thumb drive too to avoid having to use the SUBST command. When I do it this way, I get a different error, 2869.
I have tried just installing quicktime separately, but does not work either. I etiher get Error 2869 or that the G drive does not have enough space? I have a different laptop (older T41) that it worked just fine. Why not just use that one? The USB ports will not operate at 2.0! (known but separate problem). Sorry for the long question, but could not find anyother similar post!

Doublechecking Jim. Have you tried the procedure I describe in the following post? (In your case you'd be looking to change the drive letter to G rather than F.)

  • I have I problem with iTunes/Quicktime. PLEASE HELP.

Whenever I click on the iTunes icon, on my desktop, a window pops up that says...
"QuickTime version 7.0d0 is installed, iTunes requires QuickTime version 7.1.3 or later.
    Please reinstall iTunes."
    Kay, so I reinstalled iTunes.
    And it still doesn't work.
    So I uninstalled and reinstalled...
    so on..you get the picture.
Bottom line? I'm still getting the same message. And I can't get past it.
    Please?
    Thanks.

Try swapping out your existing QuickTime. Go to your Add/Remove programs and uninstall QuickTime.
Next, manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
Next, install a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of iTunes. Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
Go into Add/Remove and select iTunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching iTunes again. Does it launch properly now?

  • Help - Fatal Error

I have about four spots (frames between a marker and a script that says stay at frame) - that anytime I click into one of the frames - the program crashes. So I worked around these spot. Now I started to publish and I get a Fatal Error - help -is there a way to delete these frames from somewhere other than the score (since clicking on the frame in the score) - crashes the program. When I recreated the missing pieces - I used the same cast members - and all is fine.

I did one - and it allowed me to click in that area -----thank you.
I will have to check the rest and then see if it allows me to publish - but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
    What would cause this?
I have one other problem - I can live with it - but it is strange - 10% of the time when I save the file - it just spins - and says application not responding. I am on a Mac - Leopard. I have 11.5.  It happened even more frequently on 11.0 - any ideas?

  • Itunes: Fatal Error During Installation (it wont download at all) HELP!

Yesterday my iTunes (7.3.1) was working with no problems then the iTunes + Quicktime upgrade came up telling me to download the newer version but I didnt want to download it yet untill after i restarted my computer so I exited out of both the upgrade screen and iTunes then restarted the computer and when I tried to open up iTunes (after restarting), a little window came up saying:
    +*Preparing to install...*+
Then after a minute or two it said: *+Please wait while Windows configures iTunes+*
Then another window pops up saying:
    *+Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesMiniPlayer.Resources\fi.lproj\iTunesMiniPlayerLocalized.dll. +*
*+Verify that you have access to that directory.+*
and I have no idea what that means so i closed it then a pop up shows saying: *+Fatal Error During Installation.+*
so i deleted iTunes, Quicktime, iPod and everything i could (that my computer would let me) that had to do with Apple and restarted my computer then tried to download iTunes again but now when its reisntalling it says
    *+Error writing to file:+* +*C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\disnoted.exe.*+
+*Verify that you have access to that directory.*+
Then after this i went to the folder
    +*C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\disnoted.exe.*+
and made sure that Read Only wasn't checked but everytime i go to uncheck it and click Apply and OK it doesnt stay it just goes right back to being checked...because when u click OK the window goes away so i immediately opened it back up to see if changed but it was filled again

  • Can't install quicktime or itunes I recieve error code 2738.  I'm running windows Vista 32 with Service Pack 2.  I have tried old and new version of both programs.  Also, have gone through Apple's online help with no good outcome

Can't install quicktimeor uninstall it for that matter and itunes I receive error code 2738 with both downloads.  I'm running Window Vista with Service Pack 2.  I have check for all window update.  I have gone through Apple itune help list.  Even going into cmd to do regsvr32 vbscript.dll which was successfull. Can you help...my son had to register his ipod at the neighbors house..What going on.
Son even call apple with no help and was give Microsoft number no help there either they wanted me to call HP.....run around

    Excellent news!
Strange how sometimes the fixit works better than the manual methods, and sometimes the manual methods work better than the fixit. It differs from Microsoft fixit to Microsoft fixit too. (Unfortunately, because these "anomalous 2738s" are pretty rare as install errors go, I don't have a good feel yet for whether or not it's the fixit or the manual method that's more likely to work in iTunes/QuickTime installation contexts.)
Afraid I'm not very good on earbud troubleshooting, but fingers crossed the folks over at the iPod communities might be able to help:

hi guys i found the solution from a wizard of the community and it works, so u may try as follows:-
Correct Answer by b noir on Aug 24, 2011 8:13 PM
Let's try a standalone QuickTime.msi update. It may not install correctly either, but fingers crossed at least the error messages we get from that install may better indicate the nature of the trouble with the QuickTime install.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the QuickTime.msi to do a standalone QuickTime.msi install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes install properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
