Itunes / Safari update

I have just uploaded the latest update for Itunes, Safari as advised by Apple - now Itunes will not open when I click on it. What happened and how can I fix it?

I had the same problem as you. What fixed it for me was to run the uninstall package included with the Safari 3 beta, then download and reinstall iTunes from the Apple website.
Hope this works!
Will.

Don't panic. OS X 10.5.8 is the most popular PowerPC OS out there. People run it everyday without security breaches, including myself. It isn't Windows!
If you're really that worried, I highly recommend Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition. Supports PowerPC & Intel and Mac OS X 10.4-10.7.

  • MacBook will not boot after iTunes 10.5.2, iPhoto, and Safari update

My MacBook (mid 2007) will no longer boot after the iTunes 10.5.2, iPhoto and Safari update. It will load Lion but will no open any applications. After running Repair Disk Permissions and Repair Disk in the Recovery HD, Lion will ask for my password, log in, then display the menu bar and a grey background and remain unresponsive. I tried downloading a new copy of Lion in Recovery HD but it will not get past about 1/8 of the download bar before freezing and becoming unresponsive. Any ideas?

Any ideas?? I really need to see if this is fixable! Thanks!

  • I keep getting the itunes update message and when I accept the terms and conditions it just keeps going back to tell me I have 3 updates itunes, safari and icloud and goes back to accept message without actually downloading?

What is going on with itunes update?  I keep getting the message that updates are available for itunes, safari and icloud, but when I accept the terms and conditions and the install 3 items message, it keeps going back to telling me there are 3 updates available and have to accept terms and conditions again without it ever installing!! I am using a PC with windows vista.  Have not had this problem till December when I got an ipad and had icloud installed, don't know if there is a connection.

I can't offer any help but it soulds like Apple goofed with the latest update. Many of us have the same problem. I may wait a week or so to see if Apple responds.

You probably have run out of space, I would delete (or move to an external drive) things that aren't being used as much.

  • Safari, iTunes, software update iCal not connecting. Firefox is fine. Tried Proxies, but not sure what to do there. Only one box was checked, I unchecked it, and made no difference. Have also tried some other DNS numbers, nothing worked yet.

    Hi There,
Safari, iTunes, software update iCal not connecting. Firefox is fine.
I have found some archieved discussions about this, but none that went  into detail about how to fix problem using proxies - I don't really  understand what they are/ do.
I went into the Proxies screen, Only one  box was checked, "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)" I unchecked it, and made no  difference. There was also some stuff written in the "Bypass proxy settings for these hosts and domains" I deleated that and nothing different happened. Have also tried some other DNS numbers,  nothing worked yet.
    Any suggestions?

I still have no idea what was wrong with Safari last week, but I opened it today, and its all working! Hurrah!
Woohoo! I'm a great fan of things fixing themselves. Fingers crossed in New Zealand for no further problems.

Reset everything.. did you do this?
Tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings
If you're already been there, done that, could be a third party app preventing Safari from accessing the web.
Re sync your apps 5 at a time, then test the iPad.

I have tried unchecking the "Automatically check for updates" in the Software Update control panel. Of course, then you have to remember to check manually periodically for security updates etc. So far, the annoying banners seem to have stopped, but maybe just because I have not waited long enough for them to come back.

  • Since Safari update, ichat, itunes, safari and update don't work.

    I've got a weird one . . .
I ran the software update this morning for the new Safari, as well as iTunes. At the end of the download, I got an error message saying iTunes worked, but the Safari update was not successful. It then made me restart. After restart, software update refuses to open, as do Safari, mail, iChat, and iTunes. Third party programs run fine, as do iCal, iPhoto, etc. Firefox works fine. I downloaded the Safari update package off Apple's site via Firefox, but the package "unexpectedly quits." I'm thinking the failed update screwed everything up, but if I can't open a package installer OR the software update program, how the heck am I supposed to fix it?
    I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 on a Powerbook G4.

    Not so weird, Travis.
It is happening to many of us. G5 tower 10.4.11
So the update killed iChat, Mail, itunes, safari, dictionary any apple installer, software update, as well as programs like cocktail, onyx and many others too numerous to name here.
My update didn't have an error message.
Here is what I have done:
Dumped all the prefs, tried to find corrupted fonts=none, cleaned font cache, repaired permissions (I always do this before I install any apple stuff), repaired disk, did that from the main drive and from a laptop with the G5 as a target disk. Made new users=nothing.
Started in safe mode and used terminal to fsk the HD.
NOw I will try to install safari from the laptop to see if safari is the rascal.
Disappointed in the whole thing, basically I am stuck with no mail, no apple Tv, and although there are work arounds, this is not what I need, Thanks Apple!

  • Apple programs, Help, Mail, iTunes, Safari, Quicktime will not launch.

Recently we downloaded some upgrades from Apple and now Help, Mail, iTunes, Safari and Quicktime will not launch. The icon dances on the dock, and the operating system records the program as having opened, but the program does not come up and the icon menu on the dock still displays open rather than quit. I have tried re-installing the programs to no avail.

"Repair disk was unable to repair these"
Any one of the following may fix the directory damage:
    DiskWarrior
Highly recommended for *directory damage* repairs.
    TechTool Pro
    Multi-functional utility.
    Drive Genius Multi-functional utility.
You will need to make your own decision on which to purchase. Read up on them on their websites because each does something a little different.
You must use the versions that are compatible w/your OS system & keep the utilities updated to avoid damaging/harming/trashing your system.

  • Safari Update Sending my MBP into Spasms?!

I have a latest gen Macbook Pro. I installed the latest Safari Security update (3.1.1 I believe) and rebooted the system before starting to work this morning. On reboot it started behaving erratically. I don't know if all of these symptoms are related or if they were caused by the update but non of them happened until after it was installed.
    1. iTunes would suddenly stop playing over my USB audio adapter. Sometimes switching it back between USB and built-in audio fixed the issue the first couple of times then it didn't. Then nothing would play. Then no sound at all. Then the other accounts on the computer started having trouble.I tried rebooting and then it worked again for a about three minutes. I started just using the built-in output and it seems to be working for now.
    2. The Finder started crashing. And then crashing. And crashing. I literally watched it pick up speed until it was crashing and relaunching at full clip. To the credit of OSX I could continue to use certain programs (firefox) while the rest of Rome burned around me.
    3. When I quit Safari (which had seemed to be going slow but working fine) the finder magically stopped its crash and rebirth cycle.
    4. System Preferences is also now crashing erratically but I can't pinpoint a repeatable set of actions that is causing that.
Am I the only one with bizarre signs of instability after the update? Any insight? The computer is still under warranty but I'd rather not waste a(nother) morning by dragging it into the Apple Store. Avoiding Safari and USB audio seems to make the computer stable enough to work but this hardly seems like a solution since my setup worked fine yesterday!
    Thanks for looking!

Did you repair permissions after the update? If not, try that and see if it helps.
Can only report that I have not had any of these issues with my MBP after the Safari update.
    Good luck!

  • Safari slow or won't load pages since recent Safari update.

Safari is slow to load or will not finish loading pages since installing latest Safai update.  I have to constantly use the refresh button to finish loading pages.  Other browsers work fine.  Contacted Apple support, went into safe mode and verified disk and repaired permissions but no improvement.  What can I do?

Oh well - they were only the first steps.
    Next steps would be:
    Finder
    Go
    Computer
    Preferences
SystemConfiguration <--- Copy/Paste this folder onto your desktop and then delete from the Preferences folder
    Reboot & Test
    Once done, do the following:
    Apple Logo
    System Preferences
    Network
Ethernet / WiFi (Click on whichever method you are using to connect to the internet, on the left column)
    Advanced (bottom right)
    DNS (Tab)
    Left Column, Click +
Add the following numbers: (Click +, type the first set of numbers, hit return. Repeat process for second set)
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Reboot & Test
If the issue is still occuring..
    Apple Logo
    System Preferences
    Users & Groups (or Accounts)
Unlock Padlock (bottom left, with administrator password)
    Click +
    Change Standard to Administrator
    Account Name: Test
    Full Name: Test
    Password: (leave empty)
    Create User
On the left column you will now see 'Test - Admin'
    Apple Logo
    Log out
    Log into 'Test' account
Test to see if your issue with iTunes & Safari occurs in this account and report back..
    Regards

  • "networking error" w/itunes, software update

This seems to be a problem I'm having throughout my system with iTunes, software update, etc. I CAN connect to the internet from the dock, but iTunes gives me "a networking error has occured (-1001.) Make sure you can connect to the internet, then try again." Safari has been down, but I reset Netscape as my default browser. Network diagnostics say everything looks good, but I'm still having problems. Any advice would be much appreciated
    thanks,
    Lauren

Once safari was reinstalled and set as the default browser, everything ran fine.
