Itunes upgrade, large amount of music canno be located

After itunes upgrade, a large amount of my collection is 'The Song "..." could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?'
If before I play the song I 'Get Info' and then look the path (alt-print screen) and then attempt to play the song (I'll get the !) and then locate it, it will play. If I then compare the path to the print screen path, they are identical.
Thanks for your time.

1. find a song that is going to be missing, not hard since its a lot more than 50% of my library.
2. select the song (dont play it) and 'get info' from its properties.
3. since i cannot see the 'get info' and interact with itunes, i will make a copy of the window for future viewing with print screen.
4. close 'get info' and try and play the song. its status will now have the all too familiar '!' and be limited now in what results it will allow me see.
5. locate the song's file like itunes suggests.
6. once located, select it in the play list and "get info".
7. compare with the contents of the copy buffer.
8. they are the same exact path names.
These are not full albums or artists, my collection has always been maintained by itunes. So I have large portions of albums 'missing'. I don't use other programs to tag or album art my collection. None of my podcast tracks seem to have been impacted.

  • Is there a way to put a large amount of music on your iPod without having to keep all the files in iTunes on your computer as well? I want to put my entire music collection (including cds) on my iPod but don't want to take up the space on my computer.

is there a way to put a large amount of music on the ipod without having to keep all the files on itunes as well? I want to use my ipod as an externa drive and put all of my music on it without taking up the space on my computer. I also don't want to lose all my files everytime I plug ipod into my computer. Is this possible? Is there a way to avoid using itunes and only use the ipod as an external drive?

You cannot put music onto your iPod without using iTunes, that what iTunes is for.
It's also not a good idea to wipe the music from your computer and having it only on your iPod. We see countless posts here from people who have done just that - and then lost everything when the iPod needs a Restore. Even if you never need to Restore your iPod, what happens when you eventually replace the iPod? You'll be back here asking how to get the music from one iPod to another. That's not easy to do, we see countless posts about that too!
A much better idea is to buy an external drive (a proper external drive, not simply an iPod) and put your large amount of music onto that drive. Then point your iTunes Library to that drive. However, you need to remember two things:
You still need a backup of that Library.
Using an external drive as your iTunes Library means that the drive must be connected and ready to read before starting your iTunes programme. If it isn't, then iTunes will look on the C: drive - and you will find no music in your Library. (Once again, lots of posts about that as well!)

If you go into the Purchased tab in the iTunes store apps on your iPad and iPhone then you might be able to redownload them from there - they should then be accessible in the Music / Videos app without you needing to be be online.

    You bought icloud storage.
This has nothing at all to do with the storage on your iphone.  You cannot increase the storage capacity of your iphone at all.

  • ITunes showing incorrect amount of music on iPhone 6

Just upgraded to iPhone 6. Brought new phone home and restored from iTunes backup.  Of course, music/playlist in not included in restore yet, in iTunes, my new iPhone shows same amount of songs of original iPhone 4s (733 songs, 3.1 GBs.) However, new iPhone actually only has 11 songs! When checking capacity on actual iPhone 6, (Settings>General>About>Available) the device shows having 8.1 GB of available space and 11 songs.  What gives?  Note: I manually manage music and videos on my devices with iTunes. Always have, always will.  Any help would be gratefully appreciated!  Thanks!

In case anyone else finds this post with a similar problem.. I found a solution. (posted by a user named txforever)
Manually change the date back several months (or years if need be) and then go in to your Recently Deleted Photos folder. Don't be fooled by it telling you there are 0 photos. If you actually open it up, suddenly you will find all the old photos that should've been deleted but never were.
I emptied it and my problem is solved.
    Hooray!
I feel like Apple should issue this as a known solution to this bug that a lot of people seem to be having. And also, they should fix the bug of course.

  • HT1473 Need to import a large amount of music into an established Itunes library

I have music stored on another drive that I want to import into Itunes.  Is there any way to do this without having to go song by song?  It is over 8 gigs of songs

Yes. See thesupport article below. If you want to copy the contents from the EHD to your current library, make sure Preferences > Advanced > Copy files to Media folder when Adding to Library is checked beforehand.

  • HT1926 itunes cannot locate original file for large amount of music in library

When I open itunes it cannot find some of the tunes I have uploaded onto the library from CD's etc.

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Purchasing a large amount of music, how?

Hello, i am building up a music-profile for some Bars and nightclubs, and i need something between 1000 - 1500 songs. Anyone have experience of how to purchase so many songs the simple way. I could get list of songs and maybe mail that one to itunes, then pay and get all the songs at the same time. It will take me days and weeks to download manually, so i am open for ideas!!
    thx
    Kristian

Did you tried to enable the shopping cart (Preferences/Store/Buy with Shopping cart)?
    Maybe that could work.
But based on the iTunes EULA, the music is sold only for personal non-commercial use. You could get in a pickle with Apple and/or the IFPI.

  • Burning CDs that store large amounts of music

    Hi, could someone help me?
I know someone who has Windows XP and has a bunch of CDs that he plays in his car, and these CDs have a lot of songs on them, around 50-100 tracks.
Is it possible for me to burn a CD with iTunes that plays 50-100 songs? Is it something to do with the formats? Please help. Thanks.
    PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Amy,
Converting your current tracks will give you duplicates as you say. However you can always delete these quite easily by adding the Kind column to your Library view then sorting your tracks to segregate MP3 and AAC. You can burn your MP3 CD and delete the tracks afterwards. To add Kind, right click at the top of any Library column and choose Kind from the list. Use a smart playlist to gather up the MP3s by giving it the rule "Kind" is "MPEG audio file".

  • After installing the latest itunes update most of my music cannot be located. A box pops up and says the song cannot be found. What can I do?

I installed the latest itunes update and now I can't play most of my songs. A box pops up that says it cannot be located and asks me if I want to locate it and when I click on Yes it gives me all my files on the computer (dropdown box) and I don't know how to find them. Some of my songs will still play.

In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps and locate the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links. Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

Having the same issue.. All of playlists were deleted as well as the majority of my music can't be located. It seems the only music that can be located is the music I have purchased directly through itunes/iphone.
The location where itunes thinks my music file is:
    "file://localhost/C:/Users/MY NAME/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/"
The actual location where my music file is:
    "C:/Users/MY NAME/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/"
This is weird because I have not moved my music and it was working fine before I upgraded to the new iTunes...
    My steps:
    1) update itunes to latest version
    2) plug in old phone take backup in itunes
    3) plug in new phone and restore from that backup
I didn't notice the issue until I looked on my phone and all of music was missing from my phone along with playlists (minus the music I purchased directly from iphone/itunes.
Then I looked in itunes in my music library and saw itunes can't locate my music files.  I also tried replacing the previous itunes library file as noted in the support link above but didn't do anything..
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,

  • ITunes Match/iOS 7 iPhone music workaround for excessive data usage?

I just got an email from AT&T indicating I had exceeded 150GB of home data usage this month. It was because I used my home wifi to download 5000 songs to my iPhone from iTunes Match to fill it.
I'm frustrated, since it used to be so easy to make iTunes Match work for a large amount of music: In iOS 6 what I used to do (if I had to restore iPhone and set up as new phone): Plug iPhone 5 into computer, set up phone as new, check "manually manage music and videos" and "prefer 128kbps" and make sure iTunes Match was off in phone settings. Then drag & drop 5000 songs (about 40GB) from iTunes into phone. Once that was completed (a couple of hours), I could disconnect the iPhone from my Mac, turn iTunes Match to "on" in phone settings, and I'd get a message on the phone saying "All music on this device will be replaced" which is fine, but other than taking a while to update the remainder of my iCloud stored music, it used very little data.
Fast-forward to this past weekend. After updating to iOS 7.0.2 and having to do a restore and set up as new iPhone, this approach didn't work: When the step came "All music on this device will be replaced," all of the 5000 songs entirely re-downloaded all over again, which took 27 hours and burned through 40+ GB of home data (not phone data, since I was on Wifi). I kept my phone at home, plugged in and on wifi all weekend so as not to burn through all of my LTE data.
What is the deal? If I have to do this again (let's hope iOS 7.0.3 or 7.1 doesn't force my phone into recovery mode again), I certainly don't have the time or patience to let iTunes Match redownload all music again, and I certainly don't want to use up 40+ GB of home data.
Is there a workaround for this? Have others been successful transferring music via computer first and then turning on Match without problem in iOS 7.0.2? I'm sure it worked that way in iOS 6, and without completely redownloading all the music again, since that process would have taken several hours and a lot of home data, and I have not had any problems like this prior to iOS 7.

I think a better question is why do you "have to" restore your iPhone and set it up as a new device as often as you seem to? This seems to be more of a problem for you.
I followup question is why do you have iTunes Match turned on if you're syncing all your music to your iPhone?
Perhaps you should examine how you're using your iPhone and iTunes Match?

To answer this question, yes I have. It has always worked this way for me.

  • Itunes will not play my music nor videos

I recently updated to itunes about a week ago..and for some odd reason my itunes will not play any music that is located in the itunes music library.. I un-installed it, then re-installed it..and it still did not play the music.. I believe it has affected my windows media player on my computer as well. I was wondering if anyone had any information or a solution to my problem??
    thanks

You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.

  • Have a large library of music on my iphone 5s. I have just upgraded to iphone6. I believe I need to have all my music in my itunes library to transfer it to my new phone - however all I can see in my itunes library is music I have purchased recently

I have a large library of music on my iphone 5s. I have just upgraded to iphone6. I believe I need to have all my music in my itunes library to transfer it to my new phone - however all I can see in my itunes library is music I have purchased recently. This library of music is from years ago. Ho can I get all my music on my new phone ? Thanks

See turingtest2's user tip on Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.  You should, however, maintain your library on your PC and maintain a regular backup of it.  iPhones are neither designed as nor suitable as data storage devices.

  • My iPhone has a large amount of capacity used by other as shown in iTunes when sync.  I can't determine where 4.3 GB of other is from.  Even eliminating all of the categories of music, movies and the like it still uses 4.3 GB for other?

My iPhone has developed a large amount of "other" as shown on how the capacity is used when sync in iTunes.  Even eliminating songs, ovies and all other sync items it still uses 4.3 GB of other.  This is a relativily new development.  How can I determine the cause and free up this capacity?

Other includes data such as iPhone settings, contacts, calendar events, Safari bookmarks/cache/cookies, email and email attachments, SMS/MMS/iMessages, notes, app data, Safari cache, cookies and bookmarks, stored passwords, search index, home screen organization, wi-fi network data, etc.  But is should be around 1 GB; 4.3 GB is an indication that something is corrupt and you will have to restore your phone to correct it.
Before restoring, be sure to import all your photos to your computer and back up your contacts (by syncing them with iCloud or Google, or to a supported program such as Outlook or mac Address Book, or using an app like My Contacts Backup) as contacts are not fully backed up in the iPhone backup.  Once this is done, follow this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414, being careful to back up your phone at step 6.  At the end of the process your phone will restart and you will go through the setup screens; during this setup, when given the option choose to Restore from iTunes Backup and restore from the backup you made earlier.  Then connect to iTunes and see how large "Other" is.  If it's still that large, then the corrupt data was contained in the backup you restored from and you will have no choice except to repeat the process, but this time restore your phone as a new iPhone.
