ITunes Won't Open -- Uninstalled and Reinstalled

I am unable to open iTunes on my pc. I tried uninstalling QuickTime and reinstalling and it did not work. Then I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled, and still it will not open. Whether I try through the icon or through the programs menu, it just will not open. Any tips?

I have Norton 2006, I believe, installed on it. It's set to expire in 2 months.
hmmmm. much rarer to get error-message-free launch failures associated with 2006 (or 2007) than it is with 2005 ... but we'd better follow up on this.
it's been a while since my 2006 expired, and i'm at 2007 now. but i'll try to remember what it's going to look like for you. apologies if the instructions are a bit sketchy.
quit iTunes and QuickTime.
bring up your Protection Center and click on Norton Personal Firewall. click the configure button.
make sure that all of:
Apple Software Update (May be called just "Software Update")
Apple iTunes (or "iTunes")
iTunes Helper
QuickTime Player (or "Apple QuickTime Player")
... are all being allowed full access to the internet.
okay out of the tab, and try launching iTunes again.
do you get a launch this time?

Every time I want to sync my iphone to itunes I have to uninstall and reinstall itunes on my pc. It will only ever find the phone once, then I need to go through this all over again.
    How can I solve this?

You'll have to do it by process of elimination. Sign into the iTunes Store through the App Store app, go to the Purchased section, and look at the list of apps purchased through your own Apple ID. Anything on your iPhone not in that list isn't yours and should be deleted. The same process would apply to content from the iTunes Store.
Or you can just restore the iPhone from your most recent backup and then redownload everything from the iTunes Store. But if you have a lot of apps or content, that obviously wlll be slow.
I updated my iphone by his ID , is it still problem?
That's probably how you got your friend's purchases. It won't be an issue for iOS, but it is an issue for those apps and content.

    PLEASE HELP!!
I am so frustrated and about to just give up and deal with the fact I won't have iTunes again

    Hi Kacey,
I suspect that somewhere in all of this your iTunes library database got removed. Here is my usual approach...
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder (inside your main iTunes folder) should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
If I've misunderstood the situation please provide more details and I will do my best to help.

    Hello CLS_xoxo
Download the latest version by downloading whichever version of Windows that you have, either 32-bit or 64-bit.

I run windows 7.  Have been unable to open itunes since updating last week.  I have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled, and have checked run as administrator, but still can no open.  I notice that there is now a shield with yellow and blue squares next to it, that i do not think were there before.

    many thanks, Mary.
The ModName is ituneup.dll; the modver is 1.0.7.0.
Do you have the TuneUp plugin installed for your iTunes? If so, I think your copy is causing the issue here. Try the following document:

... does that help with the launch errors?

  • ITunes will not open my music CDs when I place them in the DVD drive. I am using Win 7 and latest download of iTunes. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with AV software turned off. No luck. Cannot upload my music CDs to iTunes library. Any ideas?

Using Win 7 and latest download of iTunes, the software will not recognize my music CDs when inserted in my DVD drive. I put a CD in the drive and nothing happens. iTunes does not have a "start" button, or some menu option to tell it to begin copying music to the library, so it just sits there. When I first installed iTunes, it would open the CDs, but I would get an error message after the first track started to transfer. Now, after a coupel uninstalls, disc cleanup, etc., nothing happens when I insert the CD. I am lost here and about to sell my new Ipod Classic because it is useless to me. Maybe I'm just too old to own something like this? Any (serious) suggestions would be appreciated.

In iTunes, do Store->View my AppleID
    Click "Deuthorize ALL"
Then, on any computers you still have, do Store->Authorize this computer.  If there are less than 5, you will have no problem.
You can only do "deauthorize all" once a year, so in the future, if you ever throw a computer away, remember do to "Store->Deauthorize this computer" first.

  • ITunes won't open now (and I didn't do anything!)

I'm seriously angry here. I've had so many problems related to iTunes. The past 2 times my iTunes stopped working altogether and I actually resorted to formatting my whole hard drive both times.
It's been working fine now for a month. I turned my computer off (properly) last night and today I turned it on and the first thing I tried to do was open iTunes and all it gives me is the stupid "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and gives me the option to send an error report.
I have already tried repairing iTunes, deleting and reinstalling it, and downloading a fresh copy and installing that. Nothing has changed.
    Can anyone help me?

Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
If you see QuickTime, remove it
    Then try repairing iTunes
If that doesn't work, go back into Add/Remove Programs and make sure QuickTime is uninstalled.
Then, go here and download and install the version of QuickTime that does NOT include iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
If you run into problems uninstalling Quicktime, download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Go to Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up
Find QuickTime in the list and remove it.

  • ITune won't open, unisntall or reinstall

    Only started today.
Origially I couldn't open the program as whenever I tried the shortcut or the file it came up with a message that said it had been moved.
So I uninstalled and then re-downloaded the setup files and re-installed.
    Now I get the message:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
I cannot uninstall or re-install either, this gives the message:
"The Installer has insufficient priviledges to modify this file: C:\Program Files\iTunes\Acknowledgements.rtf.
    Please help!

    Welcome to AD!
Fortunatley, Microsoft has a utility to clean up installation problems.
Use it to get rid of iTunes & QuickTime at the very least; and Apple SOftware Updater, Safari, and any other Apple/iPod programs you see in the list if you want to get rid of it all.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
After running that and restarting your PC, a fresh iTunes install should work.

  • Unresponsive, won't load, Uninstalled and reinstalled, same results.

In the last month this began to slow and act oddly. Using Windows 7 system. Explorer is operating normally.
Now I click on Firefox and nothing happens. Uninstalled the program and reinstalled it with no change in the outcome. What do I do?

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

    See "Creating a profile":

  • ITunes Won't Open/Uninstall

When I try to open iTunes, my computer displays a window saying, "Please wait while Windows configures iTunes." It then says that there are _ seconds remaining, and when it's almost finished, a window opens that says, "Error writing to file: C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.Resources\pt.lproj\iPhone Help.chm. Verify that you have access to that directory." It gives me two options: retry and cancel. Every time I click 'retry', that same window just opens up again.
I tried to uninstall iTunes, but that brings up a window, again reading, "Please wait while Windows configures iTunes. There are _ seconds remaining." Then, when it's almost finished, it opens a new window that says, "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2330."
I've read a number of forums with people that have similar problems, and I've tried every solution. Uninstalling iTunes with a third-party app like CCleaner and ZSoft Uninstaller bring up the same message.
    Note: I use Windows 7.
    Thank you.

Both those messages are consistent with file/disk damage, Alex.
Try doing an error check on your C Drive. I don't have a Windows 7 box to refer to, but in Vista, I'd close all running applications, go "Start > Computer", right-click on the C drive and select "Properties". Go to the Tools tab.
Do you see error checking options in there? If so, try running them. (A scan of your C drive should take a while. If it aborts early, try rebooting the PC. Don't open any applications, disconnect from the Internet and/or your network, shut down your security software in order to prevent any real time scans of the drive interfering with the scan, and then start the disk check. Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.)
Does the disk check find/repair any damage? If so, reboot the PC again and try opening iTunes. (iTunes should now attempt to do a repair install off its own bat.) Does it open properly now?
