ITunes won't Restore after I allready have restored (using Disk Utility)

To anyone who may help, or who may have similar problem,
Having trouble with my iPod (5th gen 30GB).
Bought iPod 1 month ago. First time i plugged it in, it showed up as a Windows-formatted iPod on my Mac (using iTunes 7.1).
I couldn't restore the iPod from iTunes as the Restore (and Update) function was greyed-out in the Device Summary "Version" section.
Called up Apple Canada and they told me to restore using disk utility, which I did by using the Erase function.
Then plugged iPod back in. iTunes recognised it - as a Macintosh formatted iPod - and automatically reloaded all music onto iPod. Once upload complete though, iPod wouldn't play and instead now shows a "use iTunes to Restore iPod" screen.
Restore functions still unavailable in iTunes (Version section still greyed out) - though now says that "Your iPod software is up to date. iTunes will check..."
Tried holding down menu+centre button and centre button+play but no help.
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks

Error 14 usually means that your antivirus or firewall is blocking the update. Try disabling your firewall.
Also, make sure you are connecting to a USB 2.0 (not 1.1)port directly on the back of the computer (not the front), and you are not using a USB hub or a USB port on the keyboard if there is one. This is worth checking but is not usually the cause of error 14.
When updating choose "download only" the first time. This separates the download process and the update process, so you can better diagnose where the problem resides.

  • Restore image from smb/afs share using Disk Utility

    Hi,
Im looking at using a quick way to "pick up" and restore a dmg (Disk Utility) created image from a network share using Disk Utility. Ive tried using HTTP but the image is 60+gb and takes ages to download to the client.
Is there any way I can tell the Disk Utility to restore from a network share. Ive tried the usual smb:// but it doesnt work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just as an addition. When I click on the "Image" button I do see my xserve server. Its the only shared/network connection I can see. Where can I dump up my dmg file onto this server so I can see it from Disk Utility?
    Many thanks,

  • Time Capsule full after a "Erase Free Space" using Disk Utility

    Hello,
I am facing some issues related to my Time Capsule.
Reviewing my past, I had a lot of backups on this, using Time Machine and it always worked pretty well. But after deleting some backups manually to reclaim disk space, this was not exactly freeing it.
Searching in the forum here, I saw that I could mount the backup sparsebundle image and map it into the Disk Utility. This always worked greatly too both for disk checking and reclaiming the space back.
The problem starts on the last Friday when I performed the operation again, but it started using the whole free space that I had and did not give it back.
Studying the case I found that it creates a temporary folder to store the file it creates to write the byte 0 on the disk. This file actually resides in the sparsebundle image and therefore I can see the file with 200GB, for example, in the Finder, this is a split in bands (8MB) just like the backup is. After the disk gets full, the Disk Utility should delete the file properly and give me back the space safely.
Right now my Time Capsule has 0 byte free and I can't do anything on it beyond redo the the Erase Free Space operation. When I do it, it starts writing the temporary file again and the problem repeats itself.
I know that if I backup the data and really erase the disk, I'll get it back, but this is not an option for me because I want a smart solution for this.
The only thing that changed between when it worked and now is the 10.5.6 update that I made and I'd like that it's not the root of the issue.
Is there any suggestion or general stuff I could do to fix it?
Did anybody already face the same issue?
If anyone needs more details to help me out of this, just let me know.
    Thanks and regards,
    Eduardo

Just another thing to add, I'd like a good solution for this as the redo operation from Disk Utility takes around 2 days and then it just "dies".

  • Desktop/Finder won't display external hd's, but will in Disk Utility

Yesterday, I replaced the original hard drive on my late 2008 Macbook Pro (OSX 10.9.4, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Memory) with a 1TB SATA hard drive matching the data transfer speeds of the original hard drive.  I backed up via Time Machine (on a 2TB) and even cloned onto a second external hard drive (now called 3TB) and had recovered documents (less than 100GB) from a crashed external hard drive (1TB from OWC brand) onto a third one (now called "1TB portable") with the intent of merging the files from the 1TB OWC crashed hard drive via the 1TB portable back onto an internal hard drive which now had some elbow room.  My problem is that after erasing & restoring the new internal hard drive using Disk Utility & Time Machine and reinstalling Mountain Lion and then Mavericks, the 3TB external & 1TB portable external hard drives went missing on my desktop and on Finder, but were still listed in the sidebar in the "Disk Utility".   Both external hard drives displayed and were able to be browsed through prior to my Time Machine backup & internal hard drive replacement.  Both the 3TB & 1TB portable drives were purchased new and specifically said they were for Mac OS X.  All drives are virus-free and are physically working.  Fortunately, on the 2008 Mac, the new internal hard drive is working beautifully like a brand-new Mac.  Additionally, the 3TB & 1 TB portable are NOT recognizable by other Mac's, but, again, were recognized and operational before I reinstalled OS X ML & Mavericks and restored from Time Machine.  Also, I've set my Finder Preferences to be able to see them.  Both were Mac formatted.  The only additional relevant info I think to add would be that in installing my hard drive, my OSX was Mavericks both before and after and that the Time Machine backup was within within the hour before replacing my hard drive so not much changed there time-wise. Once again, I had verified successful data transfer to the 3TB external & 1TB portable external hard drives immediately before Time Machine backup on the separate third drive.  1) How do I recover the backup data from the 1TB portable drive that I already recovered from the crashed OWC drive and 2) since I was obviously misapplying information from the forums somehow, how should I appropriately clone/transfer data in the first place?  Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi,
I have had a similar problem. I have a 1Tb portable Seagate drive which I have been using successfully for backups with time machine on a Macbook running Lion for 18 months.
I decided to upgrade to Mavericks and experienced the same symptoms as above. The machine would not recognise the disk in finder. Disk utilities could see the disk but the partition was greyed out and several attempts to repair disk were to no avail. I am afraid that I made matters worse by unsuccessfully trying to reformat the disk.
I made a backup of my macbook to another older mac and tried the hard disk with an old Windows laptop running Vista. It recognised the disk but said it need to be formatted. This I did.
In the mean time I had upgraded my Macbook from 10.9.3.to 10.9.4. I am not sure if this made a difference.
I then plugged the hard disk back in to the Macbook. It recognised it immediately and said that it needed initialising. This I did successfully and (MAC os extended Journal). The disk now works perfectly with 10.9.4 on the Macbook and I have been able to use Time Machine with it to make a backup.
I know this does not help with rescuing data from the hard disc but at least I now have a usable hard disk!

  • ITunes won't install after I click license agreement page

iTunes won't install after I click license agreement page

I had the same problem as many are having, I am running Win XP Pro and after installing the latest greatest version fresh no go, tried all the fixes mentiond around the net and no go all you get is the dam agree screen ... so I had enogh, I completly uninstalled the new version and then installed version 10 and it works fine so I think they droped the ball in the programing of the latest release thats my 2 cents. I am so glad i always keep older versions on hand because many times new versions are buggy or just do not work NOTE TO APPLE DO NOT FIX IT IF IT AINT BROKE comes to mind ... the older just work and the new junk fails don't they test the programs anymore? accross the dif supported platforms? whlth all these peole having the same problems I would say they botched the program code or installer.
It says after the install there is a newer version great after waisting all this time I will not be updating till they claime and prove they have a big prob and fix it and then test it compleatly.
Important my problem started on first installing Itunes ona newely set up XP comp so I had no settings or anything and did not care a full uninstall worked for me. Not sure with those that have tons of stuff allready in the iTunes system,
Complete working version 10.0.0.68 works fine in win XP Pro ...

  • ITunes won't open after OS update to Yosmite

ITunes won't open after OS update, ITunes has been updated, it won't open or bounce. It will not allow me to move it to trash or reinstall it. I have already updated to OS X Yosmite two times as directed by apple, I have rebooted in safe made as well as Command/Option/P/R before start up. I have opened console/system log to see if there is anything going on but when I click on Itunes nothing happens, not even so much as half a line of script. I'm stumped. If I wanted someone to tell me to turn it off and on again I'd just watch IT Crowd. please help

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities
If you head into your applications folder and locate iTunes. Right click iTunes and show package contents. In there there will be a contents folder --> MacOS --> double click on the iTunes terminal icon. This should force iTunes to open via a terminal window and at the very least it will tell you what it is getting stuck on.

  • ITunes won't open after update; MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.6.8, iTunes version 11.1.5

iTunes won't open after update - help, please; MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.6.8, iTunes version 11.1.5.

i had a problem similar to yours and better yet, i have the fix for it. i downloaded maverick 4 months ago and was without itunes ever since. all itunes icon did was bounce. itunes would never open and whats more, is when i would try to update it, i would get a "thank you for downloading itunes!" page , but the download would never work. so i scoured the net for solves. nothing that worked. <4 months later> then last night i took a new approach. i decided even though maverick would not allow me to uninstall itunes, i would find a way to uninstall itunes. then i would reinstall back to 11.1.5 i was successful and heres what i did.
    step one-
Back up your iTunes Library.itl file, found under ~/Music/iTunes
(even tho i didnt, i only had 3 artists in there at the time. and they didnt get erased but i advise you back up just in case.)
    step two-
download itunes 10.7 from apple. i used this link Download it from Apple here
(i pulled the link from Aarons website (awesometast.com). you download 10.7 however you want but i used the link above and have had no issues).
although im not sure you need to do this step ( you may be able to download 11.1.5 itunes without 10.7, i did because i was following intructions from http://awesometoast.com/downgrading-to-itunes-10-7-from-itunes-11-on-osx/
    step 3-
    open Terminal
    step 4-
enter in these 3 commands hitting return after each line. 1st line nothing seems to happen, 2nd line nothing seems to happen and 3rd line gives you a warning and requires password to continue. when i did it, my password didnt appear as i entered it and i hit return without looking, so i entered it in again, although im not sure i had to the 2nd time.
    killall iTunes
    killall "iTunes Helper"
    sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/
    step 5-
drag off and dump the itunes icon (which now has the ? shadow in it) off your dock.
    step 6-
install 10.7 itunes you downloaded earlier. (not sure if this part is neccesary. you may be able to just download 11.1.5 but i downloaded 10.7 because i was following Aarons steps.) itunes now works.
    step 7-
go to apple and update to 11.1.5 itunes. install it. open it and you have itunes 11.1.5 in perfect working order. assuming you have a decent internet speed for the downloads, the whole process takes very little time.
with those steps above, you can solve itunes just bouncing and not launching issues and also the "thank you for downloading" and nothing downloads issue. enjoy. also i would like to give a shout out to http://awesometoast.com and thank Aaron for the knowledge that enabled me to get itunes back into my life.

  • ITunes won't open after downloading software update.  Macbook Pro OSX10.6.8  Simple solution?

iTunes won't open after downloading software update.  Macbook Pro OSX10.6.8  Simple solution?  And by the way, this is apparently a common problem and Apple has completely failed to warn in advance or offer a quick straightforward solution - used to be a good company, but it's becoming just another crappy screw-the-consumer corporation.

It would help to know versions here.  I'm guessing your update put an older version of something into a place where a newer version of something iTunes put in there existed.  Updating an earlier OSX version to 10.6.8 is still only updating to system software that was issued several years ago.  If you are running some slightly newer version of iTunes issued subsequent to 10.6.8 and you just updated to 10.6.8 you may have put in an older version of something iTunes uses.  Anyway, I'm guessing here until we know exactly what you did.

My iTunes won't open after downloading 7.0, what should I do?

I get a Windows error code of 0x666D743F
    First see:

    There are some other possibilities
That error has been known to be produced by having Total Recorder or the Volume Logic plug-in installed on the PC.

My billing information is correct however iTunes won't accept it. I have tried changing it to "no" card, my statements from the banks are addressed to the same address. What the **** is going on?!

Debit cards already in an account seem to keep working, but many people have reported that when entering or updating a card that debit cards are now rejected, and they're not listed in the accepted payment methods.
As to your issue, only the iTunes Store can help you with this. I understand the irritation, but please note that the U2 free offer is just a single song, not an entire album, so we're only talking about $.99 if you miss out but still want the track. Not a big deal, in my humble opinion.

  • ITunes won't open after downloading version 8.0.2

I downloaded the 8.0.2 version of iTunes on Nov 25 and ever since I have not been able to open iTunes. Every time I try I get "The application iTunes quit unexpectedly". If I click relaunch the same message pops up. Reporting it to Apple does nothing and clicking Ignore does nothing. Even when I connect my iPod touch I get the same message.
I don't know what to do to make it work again and I'm getting really frustrated.
    Please Help!

I have had the same problem - I have uninstalled iTunes per the proper approach - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224 - after having used Disk Utility and getting rid of the preferences. Still no joy. It is a mixed blessing to find others out there with the same problem but no solution. We all seem to need help.
Curious thing is, if I go back to iTunes 6, it works!
