IWeb had to reinstall, please help

Hey guys,
I had to format my HD and reinstall everything. How can I upload my site info saved on my idisk back into iWeb so I don't have to recreate the site?
Thanks for all your help!
Jeff

Did you back up the domain.sites file from User/Library/Application Support/iWeb?
If not, then iWeb cannot import files, so you will have to re-build your website from scratch.

  • ITunes wont open, cant uninstall, cant upgrade, cant reinstall. please help

recently, itunes decided not to open. no error message, no computer lockup, just not open. so when i tried to reinstall via add/remove programs, the installer opened, and acted normal, said it was validating install, then when it got to removing old program, it froze and a windowsey-looking error message popped up saying that "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavaliable" "click ok to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'itunes.msi' in the box below" [dropdown+browse button]. the dropdown lists 2 file paths one being in the temp files in mydox and the other being in some application cache files in some system folder. neither works.
please help! im stuck! i have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, repairing, downloading the most recent and trying to install that, and even downloading an older version, and i all get the same error message.

with those symptoms, let's try the following procedure.
first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.

  • IWeb wont publish, DESPERATE PLEASE HELP!

So i have gotten lots of suggestions on whats wrong with my iweb but nothing is helping and I really need to update my website.
    I have tried....
    1. Publishing to MobileMe, Does not work, get the message that says can not connect check your connection and try again.  Connection is fine tried this aobut 15 times
    2.  Publishing to FTP, no such luck.  That says check your log in information or whatever, everything is fine but also not working.
SO, Totally at a loss.  Can someone please tell me what to do, even from scratch.  I have hosted a website here for the past 2 years not sure why it suddenly does not work, im sure its just something small and stupid that im forgetting or not doing.
BASICS ARE - Created a website on iweb, own my domain name through GoDaddy.
ANY HELP MUCH APPRECIATED, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE SAVE ME!

Okay, so do you actually have a MobileMe account and did you sign up for one?
There is no point in trying to publish your site via ftp if you do not have a hosting account with GoDaddy, but you just have your domain name with them - this will not work anyway and is why you are getting ' check your log in information'.
If you have a MobileMe account, then go to System Preferences and log out of your account and then try signing in with false details and this sometimes clears and resets things and you can then log in again with your proper username and password and it should work.
Please answer these questions first though - do you have a MobileMe account and is this where you are trying to publish?
Do you have a hosting account with GoDaddy or just your domain name?

  • IWeb within Office Live --- Please Help --- Please Read

    Hey There....
I am in quite the predicament!I am currently using OfficeLive as my registrar/domain hoster as they "typically" have a very user friendly service. I signed a 1 year contract with them,to be honest I do not want to have to go through someone else.I have seen 30+ websites which were created in iWeb & then uploaded to Office Live and they work GREAT!However I must be missing something when trying to upload it the way they recommend.Feel free to view what my site looks like and maybe you can help.http://www.SalonPureDenver.com I follow the instructions to the "T" I save iWeb to folder, then I email it to myself & re-open it on my pc(have a macbook pro brand new) then I change the home page to default.htm.I then copy all of the files required to build the website into the shared folder in Office Live. When I click "view site" it looks like this.HELP

Ok, here is an update! I have since spoken to someone else that has in the past had the same issue. they have said to change all of the files to .JSX, however when you do that and then save the file to a thumb drive, then copy the files to my pc (because I cannot access the web folder on my mac....office live is ridiculous) my mac wont allow me to copy all of the files. I dont get it. How do I get the files in there. I am supposed to be live tomorrow...I dont know what to do. Anyone that can help me...I would totally appreciate it.

  • Beach Ball of Death, Dark Gray Screen after Clean OS ReInstall- Please Help

My 13" MBP is less than two months old.
I read online somewhere that a company that buys large quantities of Macs has a strategy for combating the industry standard 5% hard drive failure in new notebooks. It said something along the lines of performing a clean install / reformat of OS X was a good idea to see if any problems arise- then the HD would likely have problems in the near future, etc...
Being the nerd that I am I performed a clean install on my MBP. I had just performed one the day before on my other Mac (which worked perfectly).
First of all, my MBP took roughly 15 minutes to boot from the disk (to begin the reinstall). Actually one time I gave it over 20 minutes and it never did load. Once I finally got to the Language select screen it froze, clicking the continue arrow did nothing and I couldn't even choose another language. So I shut down and tried again. The DVD doesn't look scratched. Is my drive less than stellar?
This time, it worked, albeit, it took much longer to install than my lesser powered Mac Mini. OS X notified me that the installation was successful and that it now simply needed to restart. Upon restart I was greeted with a dark gray screen and mouse cursor spinning beach ball (that responded to trackpad).
Shut down, turned it back on- same thing. Tried a bunch more times, no luck.
Called Apple Care and after a few questions / tips we concluded that it needed to be sent in, the associate imagined it was a HD problem.
I took my MBP to a local authorized service provider and they took it, and called me back in a few hours. I asked what they did to fix it, and they skillfully dodged the question. They said it should be good now, that it passed all hardware tests, but to let them know if it happened again.
Since then it's been running okay. As a nerd it's a bit bothersome to know that I can't perform a clean install when I see fit- and that if I did, I'd have to take it into Apple Care again in the future, and once Apple Care runs out than a clean install just isn't an option.
It boots up just as fast, but when it gets passed the white screen with the Apple logo... when the desktop is loading I noticed that it stays at the flash of the solid blue desktop a bit longer than usual (the second before it loads your desktop bg image). It also seems that fully loading all of the top right menu bar items takes a bit longer than before.
Also, not sure if the hard drive's sudden motion sensor is going haywire. But randomly, the hard drive will make a singular faint "thud / click" noise. Very faint. But it's not your usual "reading data from the HD" hard drive thrashing noise you hear when you open an app / file. It's a single, more sudden noise, but like I said it is fairly quiet- I hear it when I have literally nothing running except this Safari window. This is something I didn't notice the first few weeks with the MBP.
Also in system profiler, the battery's condition was never good, but only "Normal." I did calibrate my battery one of the first days I had it.
    Here's some coconutBattery info:
    Current Battery Capacity: 5588 mAh
    Original Battery Capacity: 5770 mAh
    Which is 96%.
    Load cycles: 10
Anyways, curious if anyone has any ideas about my inability to perform a clean install and successfully boot up? I don't see any reason why it should have taken THAT long to boot from the disk, frozen in several random spots throughout, and then not be able to boot up.
The HD noises aren't a huge deal just a bit concerning, and admittedly the battery info is just nerdy paranoia. Just curious what's going on with my MBP. Is there anything I can do, or should read?

    Hi simplecoder13,
I perform a similar process on all the HDs that I buy, only I take it a step further. I'll run a single pass erase on drives under 500GB and a seven pass erase on drives larger than 500GB and ones that are deemed "mission critical." Here's an interest metric, though.
Since 01/01/10 on laptop drives (Seagate, Western Digital, Hitachi)
    +HDs purchases - 461+
    +Drives > 500GB - 119+
    +Drives < 500GB - 342+
    +Drives that fail zero test - 13+
+Drives that pass zero test, fail within 30 days - 2+
+Drives that pass zero test, fail within 60 days - 0+
+Drives that pass zero test, fail within 90 days - 3+
+Drives that pass zero test, fail within 180 days - 4+
    +Total drive failures within 6 months - 22 (4.77%) ~ 5%+
I don't have a manufacturer break down, I suppose I should start logging that more closely. Anyway...
I have a new MacBook Pro (13" @ 2.4GHz) and booting off the installation disc, from selecting the installer disc via the boot manager to the language selection screen is ~ 6 mins and 44 seconds. I use that as an average, I did it over 10 restarts but it was a pretty fair assessment. The fact that the installer is freezing is definitely cause for alarm, that's not normal or to be expected. Process of elimination would tell me the following:
    1.) The disc is bad
2.) The optical drive is bad
My understanding of the installer is the HD isn't initially accessed during the installer until you choose an install location (at which point it's mount point is verified).
Regarding the battery, your full charge capacity is going to bounce around the first couple of months, usually anywhere from 250-400 mAh. I noticed sporadic reporting until I reached the 50 cycle mark (or around 6 months based on usage). That being said, I don't see any problems or cause for alarm with the information you've reported.

  • SA30 USB do not work after reinstall, please help!!

Hi, my SA30's USB do not work at all after reintalling, I do not have the original CD with the laptop as it is a gift from my mate.... I couldnt find the driver from the website, please could anyone help me???
I could use the USB mouse but when I plug the external hard disk in, it has no responses, I tried to search for new hardware, it couldnt detect it. Any information would be appreciate, cheers.

When you instll another OS than the recovery OEM OS you have to install the drivers and tools in a right order!
This order is on the Tools & Utilities CD in a html file! When you follow these order all hardware should be detect!
Also you can go to http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com and download the drivers

  • IWeb, E Mail Headaches, PLEASE HELP!

    I am going nuts!
I published three sites with iweb-all look great, BUT:
I can not for the life of me get the email-me buttons to work!
I have tried hyper linking them, doing text & linking that, I even used Wills button idea. Nothing works!
Correct me if I am wrong, but when you click on one of these "images" you should get a "pre-addressed email form" which you then fill in & send. Well, when I (or anyone else, mac or PC) clicks my button they get nothing, I don't even get anything if I try it before (or after) I have published it. Even Will's site wont give me an email when I click on his button, all I can "see" is in the yellow stripe is: [email protected]?subject=fromFAQs.
I am on a G3 running OSX 10.4.9, I have Firefox, Safari and Netscape for browsers. My sites are:
    waynescountryroads.com
    web.mac.com/wwpltd/iweb/psltd
    web.mac.com/wwpltd/iweb/ags
The ags one has Will's button on it, most of my email buttons are on the second (or welcome) page of each site, none work.
Please look these over and let me know how to fix this, its been days that I have been working on this problem.
    Thank you!
    imac g3   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

That's great, but I still don't understand why I can't "work them" from here.
A long shot but, are you on OSX 10.4.9, also what are you using for your browser & mail applications?
As you can see I am grasping at straws here but as we all know mac's can be a bit "testy."

  • IWeb Domain Name Question, Please Help

I created an iWeb website hosted on my .Mac account.
I forwarded my personal domain name, so that the website uses the domain <www.JohnPositive.com>.
But once it gets to the site, the domain in the URL line changes to the long iWeb name of <www.johnpositive.com/jp/CASA.html>.
What's bad about this is that I have a nationwide ad coming out that advertises the webpage of my site <www.johnpositive.com/students>, but the problem is that .Mac doesn't recognize this site, because it's changed to the long iWeb name of <www.johnpositive.com/jp/students.html>.
How do I convert that URL back to a shorter URL, such as, <www.johnpositive.com/students>?
I appreciate anyone's help on this. Must I create a redirect page? Are there some settings I'm missing?
    -Jan

the url instantly changes and is long.
This is the way CNAME pointing works with .Mac. If you like you can make things shorter by shortening the names you give your site and pages.
Your "url", namely what people need to type to get to your site, is of course just the short version. What appears in the browser address bar is really irrelevant, but if it matters a lot to you, then you can undo everything you did for CNAME and switch to ordinary url forwarding/masking. With that, for every page on your site only www.myname.com will appear in the browser address bar for every page.
