J2EE on Windows 98
Hi
I have manged to install J2EE Windows 98 with the help of the topics posted on this forum and grateful thanks to all for that.
However when I try and build the examples using ant, the process seems to hang and none of the subdirectories or code gets created
Can anybody suggest why this might be?
Thanks
The ant build scripts do not handle long filenames correctly and will not work if your ant installation is in a directory with a long filename. Try installing ant to C:\Ant and remember to change the ANT_HOME environment variable accordingly before trying to build.

Can I install J2EE in windows 98?
Hello everyone,
Is it possible for me to download J2EE on windows 98 platform or will I be able to download only older version? Can someone help me out here. thnks. No, at this time it is not possible to install J2EE 1.4 SDK on Windows 98. You should be able to install J2EE 1.3 SDK, though, but getting it to run does require some further tweaking of system environment. Please check this thread for more details:

Can i run J2EE on windows 98 platform?
Hi all,
this is a question i want to ask all of your help. Cos i couldnt run J2EE on windows 98 platform. Is it because J2EE does not support Windows 98? Is there a way to run them on windows 98? If yes, could anyone pls tell mi how to run it. ThanksThe J2EE Version 1.3.1 batch files need to be tweaked to run on Windows 98 and Windows Me. They're included with J2EETools plus a lot more. See

J2ee on windows 2000 home edition ? installation problems.
(i) I am trying to install j2ee on windows 2000 home edition. It simply does not install. On careful look at the download website I find that j2ee is meant for 2000 pro only. Is there a way I can install j2ee on home edition ? or it is simply not supported by Java Tech.
(ii) I am actually trying to run an application (.jar). Is there a way I can run that application is j2ee is not supported on home edition ?
(iii) There is no error message when I try to install j2ee. I have downloaded the self extracting file meant for windows (j2eesdk-1_4-dr-windows-eval.exe). I double-click the icon for this file. It launches a small popup and displays... extracting...installing....deleting temp files....Thats all.... Nothing more. When I do the same process on 2000 pro........ it does exactly the same, but at the end it pops up a new window asking my preference for installation directory, and displays a lengthy procedure for installation.
Any help.
Thanks in advance,
Vivek RanjanYou are most likely hitting this problem:
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4887990.html
One way to workaround this would be to rename your distribution to .zip file, extract it using Winzip or similar utility into some temporary directory. Then run this from command prompt (you must first go to the directory where you unzipped the distribution):
package\jre\bin\java -cp .;package\PackageFormat.jar -Duser.home=<writable_temp_dir> -Xmx256m appserv
This will start install wizard - once you get past the installation bootstrap problem, J2EE SDK should run on Windows XP Home Edition. -
J2EE on Windows App server wont start after JSPM patching
Hi,
I've patched an ECC6 system on DB2 V5R4 to SP16 level on ABAP side, and Enhancement pack 3, and then did an update to JSPM and installed new SP16 levels of the Java components.
Now my Windows App server starts only the ABAP Work processes, not the J2EE side. I get a yellow light and the message
J2EE Status info unavailable.
On the Windows work directory for Dialog instance D00, I see that the dev_server0 has only messages about the last shutdown 2 days ago.
The dev_jcontrol has errors in it abot Unknown property and
JStartupICheckFrameworkPackage: can't find framework package U:\usr\sap\WFD\D00\exe\jvmx.jar
see below.
Any ideas?

I hadn't done any changes to UME, but I have got a JSPM support package (EP-PSERV SP16) in status of ERROR that seems to be at the bottom of the problem.
Apparently, JSPM is not able to cope with any flavour of IBM DB2 (Windows, AIX, or i) at a point in this support package. There is a note 1156313 and it matches the error which is in the sdm log file:

Unable to compile J2EE in Windows XP
I have installed successiful J2EE 1.4 in my computer but i couldin't able to compile.
J2EE is in D:/programfiles/sun/appserver/
tutorial is in C:/unzipped/
I don't know how to add JAVA-HOME/bin ,J2EE_HOME/bin and J2EE_HOME/share/bin ON FRONT OF MY PATH.
How coul i set my PATH?
For examole my program that i what to compile is in C:/dubo.java what can i do to compile it.I will just hope that Windows XP does not have different navigation for environment setup, this is how
PATH can be set on Windows 2000:
Start->Settings->Control Panel
Double click System, select Advanced tab
Select Environment Variables button
Find variable called PATH in user variable section. If it exists, then select its row and click edit. Write necessary entries at the very beginning - in your case, this should look something like:
D:\programfiles\sun\appserver\jdk\bin;d:\programfiles\sun\appserver\bin;<whatever was already there>
If there is no variable called PATH, then click New button, in Variable Name field specify PATH, in variable value specify:
D:\programfiles\sun\appserver\jdk\bin;d:\programfiles\sun\appserver\bin
Click OK to exit the environment setup. If you are compiling from command line, you'll have to open fresh command prompt to get these changes. -
Newbie question J2EE and Windows ME
hi i am a young student trying to learn about j2ee.
i have installed the j2ee package and set the environment variable JAVA_HOME, J2EE_HOME and ANT_HOME and PATH and CLASSPATH as the documentation says.
If I type on the command line j2ee -verbose to make a test, i got this message:
invalid command or file name
no more environment space
no more environment space
no more environment space
no more environment space
syntax error
syntax error
invalid command or file name
(sorry for bad translation...i am not using an english operative system)
i am using windows Millennium Edition and i have tried to give the j2ee.bat the more environment memory as possible..but it doesn't work.
Is it possible using and working with the j2ee package under Millenium Edition or i must strongly install e.g. Windows 2000 Professional? What about Windows 98?
I need help. please.
Thank you in advance.
Fedehow about j2ee.bat?

Runnig J2EE on Windows 98..(Urgent)
Hi Everybody,
Can anybody give me step - by - step instruction on how to install and run the j2ee platform on Windows 98.
Thanx in advance,
Shine VijayanHi, Just install on your pc, and using edit from DOS rewrite the *.bat files, I mean... save again every file (I don't remember which version of j2ee have these files with unix style end of line) and follow the instructions of the install file.
Good Luck!!!

Does anyone know where I can get a version of J2EE that runs under Windows ME? I would like to experiment with it and see what it's like. However, the Sun site doesn't have a version I can use.
Thanks
MistWing SilverTailHallo,
I think that the answer to your question is that such a version does not exist! According to the Sun web site, J2EE is only available with Windows for NT, 2000, and XP. You could, of course always try it with ME, and wait for the bangs. Alternatively, why not upgrade from ME? -

Vista business works fine on the T61p - I have 2 of them and they are powerful enough that theres not much difference between Vista and XP (unlike the T4x series). I also have one running Win 7 and that seems to be working fine also.

it is said write once, run anywhere, but one month passed, I still could not have a simple application client run on a machine(solaris) rather than the machine running the j2ee server(windows), I 've copied j2ee.jar, tired setting classpath, re-jar the appClient.jar, tried to correct the manifest.mf.... how trouble it is!
I like C/C++, how easy to let it work once I can compile a server and a client program, I can copy them to any machine and run them without such kind of trouble setting.
really dislike Java nowYou cannot compare C/C++ Client/Server with a J2EE architecture. They deal with very different issues.
About your deployment issue, I don't understand why you tried and changed your manifest file. We work on two platforms : one is an NT plateform, the other is Linux. We use BEA weblogic on both. I do my testing on NT and then I juste have to copy my file on Linux to have it work. However, it is true that we sometimes have difficulties with classpath settings and packaging. but once it's done...
If you could be a bit more precise in your problem description, maybe someone could help...

SDM server does not start (J2EE)
Hi,
currently i'm trying the Calculator example, But when it comes to deployment, NetWeaver couldn't connect to the SDM Server.
It seems that this server wasn't startet. The problem is, i'm not able to start this server and i don't know why.
In the Management Console i see the following nodes (my pc is named STGN0017):
+ STGN0017
+ STGN0017 1 (<b>green</b>)
- Process List (<b>green</b>)
msg_server.exe (Running)
enserver.exe (Running)
- Syslog
+ STGN0017 0 (<b>yellow</b>)
- Process List (<b>yellow</b>)
jcontrol.exe (some process running)(<b>yellow</b>)
igswd.exe (Running) (<b>green</b>)
- Process Table
dispatcher (Running)
server0 (Stopped; Exitcode:-2; Restart:No)
SDM (Stopped; Exitcode:0; Restart:No)
When i open the J2EE View (Window > ShowView > J2EE Engine) i see the following:
Remote engine
+ localhost:3601
+ J2E instance 00 on stgn0017 (<b>yellow</b>)
- dispatcher (<b>green</b>)
- SDM (<b>red</b>)
- server0 (<b>red</b>)
If i try to investigate the server with a Browser i get the following message (Adress: http://localhost:50000/):
Dispatcher running but no server connected!
Has anyone an idea how to solve this? Restart in the MMC doesn't help.
I have installed SneakPreview15. But before, SneakPreview 14 was installed. Th installation of 14 crashed during database setup and i removed all files i could find and did a system recovery before installing 15.
Best regards

MS SQL Server in Java/J2EE Environment
Dear all,
I wanted to understand pros and cons of choosing MS SQL Server in Java/J2EE environment.
Could anybody share some thoughts or web resources?
Personally I hate using MS SQL Server for Java/J2EE based applications. But one of my clients wanted to have following environment for his production environment and he insist on using this environment for application development. So I just wanted to understand pros and cons of J2EE (Application) + MS SQL Server ( rdbms )
MS SQL Server
J2EE/Flex
Windows OS
Thanks
