Jabber can't auth with Win 2003 AD Server

I've been running OS X Server since Lion on this particular Mini. During the past year+ that we've had the server up, it's been running the iChat/Messages/Jabber server without issue.
I upgraded to Server 2.2.2 this weekend, and now no one can connect to Jabber. All other services (Wiki, web, File, Calendar, Contacts, Profile Manager, and more) work just fine.
We are in a mixed environment, with Windows Server 2003 Active Directory hosting all the user accounts. The Mini is properly bound to the AD domain. I went through about 3 hours of troubleshooting with Apple this morning to get it running, and after all that, the support guy threw up his hands and said there wasn't anything else he could do. He was able to verify that accounts logged in on the server itself with either Local or OpenDirectory accounts worked just fine. It's only the AD users that can't connect to the Jabber server. Obviously, a Windows problem...
What we see in the log is the following repeated whenever someone tries to login to the server:
Oct 21 16:38:48 groupware.hplnet.org jabberd/c2s[13235]: [10] [::ffff:10.1.2.66, port=56473] connect
Oct 21 16:38:48 groupware.hplnet.org jabberd/c2s[13235]: [10] [::ffff:10.1.2.66, port=56473] disconnect jid=unbound, packets: 0
These 2 events happen simultaneously to the human eye. On my Mac, using Messages on ML, I get a warning that I'm disconnected from the server and it prompts me for a new password. Windows users are seeing similar behavior.
I recall that back in the past using Lion, I had to remove the use of cram-md5 and rely solely upon plaintext credentials for authentication to the Windows Server. Even though the c2s.xml file has now changed location (now at /Library/Server/Messages/Config/jabberd/), I tried using the info on this old KB article (option 2) to get the system to communicate with the AD, to no avail.
Again, the server starts and runs just fine, and I see NO errors in startup; . I can connect with local and OD accounts. AD accounts work with all other services. Only the Jabber + AD combination is broken.
Any ideas on what I can try next?

Another detail, just discovered:
I have found the following error via the Console logs, right at the end of jabberd startup:
10/23/13 12:39:14.512 PM jabberd/sm[63801]: session started: jid=[email protected]/groupware

The number of Broken pipes varies each time I start jabber.
I'm still struggling to get this going. I was tempted to bypass the <module>apple_od</module> and use LDAP instead, but the sheer amount of manual configuration when I am no LDAP expert and have no guidance is mind numbing. And that really doesn't resolve the problem, just establishes a workaround.
I still wish I could find out why this 2.2.2 update borked jabber's authentication to my AD server, but nothing else... (and yes, I did try turning off my OS X and Windows firewalls).
If I can't find out what went wrong, what's folks opinions of restoring just my jabber installation from my Time Machine backup from last week, before I did the update?

  • How to set default max cache size in win 2003 terminal server

Hi! I have a win 2003 terminal server, with 50+ user accounts, the problem is that the cache for firefox is never cleared, how do I set a apropriate (ie 50MB) max cache size for all users? As it is today, I have certain users with several millions of cahe files, which slows everything down.
    firefox is 8.01 English version.

    Hey Macdaddy,
This happens all the time with our server at work. The server window never opens in the same place twice, and it can be annoying.
There are third-party window management tools out there, but what I did was use a macro program called Keyboard Maestro (since I already owned it).
Among the many things Keyboard Maestro can do is manipulate a window. I created a macro that moves it to a specific point (in my case, the upper left corner of the screen) and then resizes it to a specific width and height in pixels. I then assigned the macro a keyboard shortcut.
Now, when I mount the server, I can use the keyboard shortcut and the window is right where I want it.
There are other programs that just move windows, and I tried a couple. But Keyboard Maestro is more elegant in my opinion, and it does a whole lot more if you choose to go that route.
    Hope this helps.

  • U410 - Can't boot with Win 8.1 OR Ubuntu

    Hi-
I have been trying to fix a dual-boot issue with Win 8.1 and Ubuntu, and I've totally screwed up my boot record.  I was advised to look at the instructions below, and it might help me straighten out my boot situation.  After following these directions, I can no longer boot into anything now.
    Here's what I did:
This also may be part of the issue as Windows and UEFI copy between themselves.
Remove Duplicate Firmware Objects in BCD and NVRAM
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...=ws.10%29.aspx
I followed the directions outlined above, and now I can't do anything. When I start it up, it boots into Windows Boot Manager with a single entry for Ubuntu. When I selected that, it gives me the usual warning that it can't find the .efi file or .mbr file. The (really) bad part is that I can't get to the UEFI Firmware Setup (i.e., the old BIOS menu), so I can't boot from a USB - I'm stuck. When I boot it up, it does flash for a split second, almost like it goes to another screen (the UEFI menu?), but then goes into the Win Boot Mgr.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get into the UEFI firmware settings?  I've tried to hit F12 (and every other F* combination) during boot, but it still just flashes for a second, and then goes into Windows Boot Manager.  If I could get to the UEFI settings, I could boot from USB into a Windows rescue/rapair USB device, but I can't get to it at a moment, so I'm in limbo.
If anyone has any suggestions, it would be muchg appreciated, as I'm stuck and can't do anything.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I don't even see a loss rates in the pathping result you provided before. and it shows "Computing statistics for
0 seconds", this is really strange, have you pasted the full pathping result here? Or as I mentioned before, you can try to pathping your own ip as a test. What is the result if we use other tool, simple like ping to Google website? Make sure
to install latest driver for network adapter,  reset router, get latest firmware for router.

  • 11.1.0.7 certified with windows 2003 (32bits) server?

    Hi,
Is 11.1.0.7 release certified with Win2003 (32bits) server? I only found 11.1.0.7 for windows server 2008 (32bits) on Oracle download site.
    Thanks!

See your duplicate post here - 11.1.0.6 to 11.1.0.7
For Win 2003, 11.1.0.7 is a patch that needs to be downloaded from My Oracle Support. You install it on top of a 11.1.0.6 install.
Access to My Oracle Support requires a valid Customer Support Identifier, which is given when you purchase support from Oracle.

  • Font files corrupted via smb Win 2003 Storage Server

Files are accessed on a Windows 2003 Storage Server via smb.
I just received a "re-furbished" 27" iMac with Mac OS 10.8.2 installed. Any and all folders on the network containing Postscript font files show those files as grayed out. It appears to be limited to just Postscript fonts, NOT Truetype (.tt) or OpenType (.otf) fonts. It appears something is not recognizing the resource fork portion of the files (is it because they have no file extension?).
All other Macs on the network running older versions of the OS do NOT have a problem accessing Postscript Font files.
I'm just an end user looking for information I can pass along to our Network IT folks who apparently have limited Mac knowledge.
Any and all advice and/or technical resources would be greatly appreciated.

I do greatly appreciate the info in the "Font Management in OS X" article, but this does not begin to address the problem I tried to describe above.
The fonts in question reside in job folders on a network, running Windows Storage Server 2003 software and Mac users access those files via smb.
As needed, those fonts are copied from the network location to the application's font folder or to a local hard drive for loading via Suitcase Fusion. The activation of these fonts is NOT the problem. The font files, (specifically Postscript Font files), are marked as corrupted BEFORE they can be copied and activated.
This issue came about ONLY after I connected my new 27" iMac running OS 10.8.2 to the server. All other Mac users running older versions of the Mac OS did not have any issues, until the new Mac was thrown in the mix. Something in the Mac OS 10.8.2 or on the server is not recognizing the resource fork portion of the Postscript font files.
Once the folders containing Postscript fonts have been accessed by the Mac running OS 10.8.2, those fonts are then "corrupted," meaning any other users can no longer load those fonts as needed, because they are grayed out.
To underscore the significance of this issue, please understand that this is a prepress production workstation. The iMac was added because we could not install Adobe's CS6 Suite on existing hardware. Because of these issues, I can only use the new Mac to open InDesign CS5.5 and/or CS6 source files provided by customers, I then export an .idml file and work the job on my older "stable" Mac running Adobe's CS5 Suite.
So I hope you can come to understand that access to the exact versions of fonts used to create print production files is critical. Any substitution of fonts results in countless additional hours spent verifying that text wraps match previously printed samples exactly.
Few things are more frustrating than not having confidence in the integrity of files stored on one's own network. This is compounded by the fact that the "IT" function was outsourced to our company's headquarter's (offsite) years ago where the "IT" people seem to have minimal high-end knowledge of Macs.
Any other OS 10.8.2 users out there having this particular problem? Any other ideas?

  • Can´t communicate with the primary DNS Server 200.49.156.5: and now?

    Hi,
I have connected a Sony Vaio with a Linksys WRT54G router, using broadband cable provided by a Motorola Surfboard Modem (model 5b5100i)
I followed all the steps from the router´s CD.
Finally I connected a network cable to the port 1 of the router and on the other extreme the Motorola Modem is now connected. As result, since I  have a desktop already connected to the modem, there are now 2 connections on the back of the motorola modem, 1 for a desktop that uses its USB plug and a 2nd, which uses a network cable (ethernet connection) and that plugs at the end to the Linksys router. connection is ok based on the Linksys CD.
The wireless card of 2 different laptops recognize the router´s signal, but no internet copnnection is available.
after diagnostic on network problems by Vista Windows, I receive the following message
¨"Cannot communicate with the primary DNS Server 200.49.156.5"
What does it mean? what needs to be set in order to make it work?
Thanks in advance for any help

I talked to a tech support form my cable company and the motorola only provides 1 IP address, therefore, in order to make a router work (it will need its own IP address, a 2nd one), you need to buy an ADDITIONAL internet connection or access point....this company is in Argentina. While I lived in the US (last month) they allowed me to have multiple computers from the same one connection.
bottom line, calll your ISP and tell them you need either to install the router on your connection OR to have an additional internet cable input....
    just my 2 cents...business rules.

  • DAC can't connect with INFORMATICA_DW_SERVER when dac server is running

    Hello all,
    We have something strange.
We just installed BIA 7.9.5.1 with informatica 8.1.1 sp5 on windows server 2003.
And confiugered it according to the manual.
Now we want to setup the connection from the dac to the informatica services but we can't establish a connection when the DAC server is running. When we press on test connection it says 'please wait... ' but that is for almost an hour now or so.
Now when we stop the dac server the connection to informatica_dw_server works just fine.
Also the connection with the informatica_rep_server works, also when the dac server is started.
What have we done so far:
    - We can run pmcmd and pmrep from the command line
    - We added the /server/bin and /client/bin directory to the path
    - We added the system variable infa_domains_file
    - We checked the config.bat file from the dac server
    - We checked the port in the adminconsole (which is 4001)
    - We restarted everything (all the services and the windows server as well)
    - when we try netstat we see it is listening on port 4001
Proto Local Address Foreign Address State
TCP rst-act3ct2:4001 rst-act3ct2:0 LISTENING --> is this correct?
Hope anyone can help me out!!!!

    - We added the system variable infa_domains_file
    - We checked the config.bat file from the dac server
    - We checked the port in the adminconsole (which is 4001)

  • Unity 4.2 voice mail only with Exchange 2003

    Hi Team,
we are replacing window 2000 OS with Win 2003 for unity 4.2. This is a single box solution. Exchange 2000 is installed on same unity server. Now we are upgrading the OS from 2000 to 2003. With window 2003 we have to installed the Exchange 2003. In unity installation 4.0(5) following paragraph is mentioned which means we need separate hardware for Exchange. Kindly advise whether we need a separate server for Exchange 2003 or we can install on the on unity box.
If you are using Exchange 2003, install Exchange 2003 administration software on the Cisco Unity server. (Exchange 2003 is installed on a separate server.)
If you are using Exchange 2000, you can install Exchange 2000 either on the Cisco Unity server or on a separate server. If you install Exchange 2000 on a separate server (typically for systems with a large number of subscribers), install Exchange 2000 administration software on the Cisco Unity server.

    Thank you Javalenc,
I can understand from following that Exchange 2003 can be installed on same server.

•Exchange 2003 on the Cisco Unity server or on a separate server. If you want to install Exchange 2003 on the Cisco Unity server, note the following:
–The Cisco Unity server must be running Windows Server 2003.
–Exchange 2003 can be installed only on the currently shipping servers supported for use with Cisco Unity 4.2 (MCS-78xx-x2, MCS-78xx-x3, or later, including IBM and HP equivalents). Currently shipping servers are listed in the Cisco Unity Supported Platforms List at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/
As you know we are just replacing the OS, from win 2K to 2k3. So any thing I need to take care to back up the existing Unity with win 2000 and exchange 2000..
I am taking the back up of my unity 4.2 installed on window 2000 with DiRT and will restore on unity 4.2 with win 2003 and Exchange 2003.
    Kindly advise.

  • Jabber for Windows SSO with CWMS

We've configured our WebEx Meetings Server 2.0 for SSO with ADFS 3.0 and it works in various browsers.  The docs for Jabber for Windows say that it can do SSO to WebEx Meetings Server but there are no details in the configuration guide and I haven't been able to get it to work. After I turn on SSO, Jabber won't authenticate with the Meetings Server.  All the guide says is
If you configure SSO with Cisco WebEx Meetings Server, Cisco Jabber can seamlessly integrate with the SSO environment. In this case, you do not need to specify credentials in order for users to authenticate with Cisco WebEx Meetings Server.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Eric,
No specific configuration is done on CWMS for Jabber for Windows integration. All this is done on Jabber side. I would advise you to reach out to Jabber Clients community or open a TAC ticket with Jabber for Windows team.

  • How to configure SharePoint HNSC with a reverse proxy server so that HNSC Share Point URLs are not exposed to end users.

Could you please let me know how SharePoint HNSC can be configured with a reverse proxy server so that HNSC Share Point URLs are not exposed to end users.
In normal path based site collections/web applications, reverse proxy configuration can be done using alternate access mappings with  Public URL = "proxy URL", internal = "HNSC Share Point URL" so that share point sends response back
to Public URL = "proxy URL".
In Host Named Site Collections,  alternate access mappings  are not supported. Each HNSC is designed to have only one URL in each zone. Zone is one of the five zones(Default,Intranet,Internet,Custom,Extranet) with each of which only one alternate
URL is associated.  This is what we are able to get using power shell command "Set-SPSiteUrl", but this will not help us to get the response back to proxy URL after a request sent to share point because we could not find any mechanism in share
point HNSC to respond  to a different URL(proxy URL). Consequently, Share Point URLs are exposed to  external users.
Below share point article in MSDN blog is symmetrical to what we are observing with Share Point 2013 and Proxy Server. It mentions that internal HNSC URLs can’t be hidden using any proxy server. If  hiding the internal Share Point URLS is a requirement,
it suggests to use a web application instead of host named site collections.
Though I’m also observing the same behavior with Share Point 2013 HNSC, Could you please confirm my understanding is correct.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/kaevans/archive/2012/03/27/what-every-sharepoint-admin-needs-to-know-about-host-named-site-collections.aspx
    Excerpt from above article-
"Host Named Site Collections Only Use One Host Name
Continuing on the discussion on AAMs and host named site collections, you cannot use multiple host names to address a site collection in SharePoint 2010. Because host-named site collections have a single URL, they do not support alternate access mappings and
are always considered to be in the Default zone.  This is important if you are using a reverse proxy to provide access to external users. Products like Unified Access Gateway 2010 allow external users to authenticate to your gateway and access a site
as http://uag.sharepoint.com and forward the call to http://portal.sharepoint.com. Remember that URL rewriting is not permitted. Further, a site collection can only respond to one host name. This means if you are using a reverse proxy, it must forward the
calls to the same URL.  If your networking team has a policy against exposing internal URLs externally, you must instead use web applications and extend the web application using an alternate access mapping."<u5:p></u5:p>

    Hi Satish,
You are right that only one URL is allowed for each zone of the host-name site collections in both SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013.
It is by design that each host-name site collection only support one URL for each zone.
The article below is about RTM version of SharePoint, and it is the same for SharePoint 2013 with the latest CU.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2826457
So to make the URL of HNSC not exposed to external users is not supported, you need to use path-based sites instead.
    Best regards.
