Jar utility silently failing on update
Hi,
I am trying to run a script that adds a single file to an existing WAR archive by executing the following command:
jar uf las.war WEB-INF/classes/las.properties
When I try this, jar fails to do the update and returns an exit code of 1, but doesn't print any error message. Using the "-v" option doesn't give any additional information.
I can't find any Sun documentation on the return codes of the jar utility. I've double-checked the file permissions and the filenames and they are fine. I can extract the contents of the archive and generate a new one with the same contents; but I still have the exact same problem when trying to do the update.
Does anyone know what is going wrong?
I'm running the Sun JRE 1.4.1 on linux/i86.
Thanks,
Joe
I'm having a related issue. Working on Red Hat Linux 8.0 I am unable to update the jar file with the new entry to the manifest. I run...
jar -umf manifest Hello.jar
and the output to the terminal is...
jar: '-u' mode unimplemented.
If anyone has thoughts about this or managed to resolve this error, please post. Thanks.

Silently failing to update applications
Hi Everyone,
I have upgraded my iPhone 4s to ios 6 (6.0.1 to be precise) a few weeks back and forgot my itunes account password. So, I created a new account, and every since I did this, some of my apps are silently failing to update.
Basically, when there is an update for some apps, I see the number notification on my "App Store" app. I open this, and go to UPDATES tab and see that I have some apps that need to be updated. I click on the UPDATE ALL button, and it opens the login popup, I enter my login information and it updates some of the apps, but get stuck on others (always same apps).
After this point, every time I hit UPDATE ALL, it opens the login popup, then says INSTALLING next to each of these stuck apps, then 1-2 seconds later those buttons turn to UPDATE again. And, I am not getting any error or anything like that, nothing other than those button changing to UPDATE.
Just to give an example, Facebook app got updated fine, but Linkedin, Foursquare and Skype are not updated and they are stuck for some weird reason? If I delete these stuck apps and re-install, they install fine? Right now, I have 5 apps that are waiting to be updated...
I tried restarting the iphone, logging out and then logging in, etc. But nothing helped!
This is driving me crazy, and any help / suggestion would be appreciated!
ThanksIt's simple. When you download an app it's assigned to the Apple ID used to dowload it. This cannot be changed. When the apps need to be updated you need to used that Apple ID and Password to update them. Your new Apple ID is what is causing your issue. Delete the apps and re-download them with your current Apple ID. I think you said that is somewhere in your post so you already knew the answer, anyway.
Hope that helps -
Satellite P855-108 - PC health Monitor fails to update - Windows 8.1 update
Hello,
today updated to win 8.1 from a one year old windows 8, everything went fine
Then I followed Toshiba recommendations for updating the tools but despite doing exactly as explained the flash cards(and the functions buttons) are not functioning, they worked perfectly in win 8!
_The only utility that fails to update is PC health monitor,_ the version installed is 1.9.04.6402 and the one from support site for win 8.1 is 1.9.09.6400, when trying to install it fails with error message "not support"
When trying to open the installed health monitor there is also an error message "can`t get the bios type".
This is strange and every other utility recognizes the latest bios version 6.70 an the laptop`s details an serial
I tried all I could think about, installed flash card support tool from win 8, enabling and disabling in the bios, even installed VAP for win 8 but no change
Any help would be highly appreciated
Latest system driver and other tools are installed
Thanks in advanceSorry for taking space on the forum,
_In case anyone is facing the same problem I managed to find a solution by my self,_
*it was caused by the old version of PC health monitor,*
uninstalled, updated to latest version
Now Function key utility and everything works as supposed, _the latest Health monitor also works fine_ -

Boot Camp 3.1 update silently fails
Ever since the Boot Camp 3.1 update was released, I've been trying to install it Every time, it silently fails, whether I'm using Software Update, or downloading and installing the package manually from Apple.com. I'm running Boot Camp 3.0 and it's fine, but it puzzles me why I can't get it updated to 3.1.
Has anyone run into this issue?I was having this problem as well - the installer would pause then crash ("aka The Program Needs to Close") every time I tried. In the general category of "Suspect anything not from Apple", I unplugged everything FireWire/USB and uninstalled the driver for my DisplayLink external graphics adapter.
The bootcamp 3.1 update then installed just fine. (And the DisplayLink driver reinstalled just fine.)
I expect that Apple hasn't tested their installer with a wide range of third-party drivers and hardware. Get rid of any hardware or drivers you can that are not bog-standard Apple or Microsoft and see what happens. -
System Image Utility always fails, why?
Hi everyone,
on my clean and fresh install of 10.7.4 Server the System Image Utility always fails to create an image. I want to create a NetInstall image and have put the OS X Lion Installer in /Applications. I can select it in SIU and choose to create a NetInstall image. It asks for the admin pw and always presents an error at the very end: Image creation failed. An unknown error has occured.
If I select to create a NetBoot image instead it fails directly after clicking on the Create button with this slightly different message: Image creation failed. An error has occured. At least it’s no unknown error…
Any ideas what might be causing this? I have succesfully created NetInstall images with 10.6 Server and 10.8 Server, but 10.7 Server somehow won’t play nice.
Thanks
BjörnHi Brian,
I first deleted the Installer and redownloaded it from the App Store, just to make sure there was no problem with it. Even though I now have the 10.7.4 Installer (had 10.7.0 before) nothing has changed. I then went on to set the log level as suggested. I now get different errors based on the chosen log level.
Log level set to debug:
Image creation failed.
*** -[__NSArrayM insertObject:atIndex:]: object cannot be nil
Log level set to verbose:
Image creation failed.
An unknown error has occurred.
I did not see anything helpful in the logs unfortunately. The only noticeable thing mentioned was: Failed to create image from installer media.
Any additional ideas? I will attach both logs here, just in case.

iTunes on my Windows Vista has failed to update over several weeks. Audio will not play out. Attempting uninstal/reinstall according to iTunes support page. Will not uninstall 'Apple Mobile Device Support' - goes to 99% then progress bar unwinds completely. Tried rebooting. Any clues??
Hey petanque1,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues installing iTunes for Windows. The following article outlines the error message you are receiving and a potential resolution:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
Some Windows customers may experience installation issues while trying to install or open iTunes 11.1.4.
Symptoms may include:
"The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer"
"iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows Error 126)”
"Runtime Error: R6034 - An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly"
"Entry point not found: videoTracks@QTMovie@@QBE?AV?$Vector@V?$RefPtr@VQTTrack@@@***@@$0A@VCrashOnOverf low@@***@@XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\WebKit.dll”
Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
Check for .dll files
1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
2. If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
3. Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
1. Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
2. Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using theMicrosoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
3. Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
Thanks,
Matt M. -
System Preferences silently fails on relaunch
hi all..
I just installed a utility on 10.7.5 called Orbicule Witness. It adds a pane to System Preferences. On reboot following install of the utility I tried to access System Preferences and see the following in a Console App window:
13-04-01 12:09:19.602 AM System Preferences: dlopen_preflight failed with dlopen_preflight(/Library/PreferencePanes/Witness.prefPane/Contents/MacOS/Witne ss): no suitable image found. Did find:
/Library/PreferencePanes/Witness.prefPane/Contents/MacOS/Witness: GC capability mismatch for /Library/PreferencePanes/Witness.prefPane
and a dialog appears telling me "To use the Witness preferences pane, System Preferences must quit and reopen.". So i press "OK" and it sends the following message to the console:
13-04-01 12:10:35.219 AM launcher: posix_spawnattr_setbinpref_np failed
This is consistently reproducible. It seems that System Preferences is trying to relaunch in a fashion that is compatible with the Witness pane, but silently fails for some reason (btw "silently fails" is Concentrated Evil).
Is there some way to determine why it is failing and fix the problem?
thanks!I have uninstalled it and, of course, the System Preferences loads. Did it twice to make sure. You can also take a shortcut to de-register the Witness pane and, again, System Preferences loads.
Also tried setting the System Preferences app to 32-bit using Get Info.. that does not work, but I don't see any visual indication that the System Preferences app is actually running in 32-bit mode. Is there some way of telling? If System Preferences cannot run in 32-bit mode then it's probably an OS issue. If it can, and the Witness pane still is not loading, then it seems likely to be app-specific. -
Polling for database updates fails to update sequence file/table
I have a small system to poll for changes to a database table of student details. It consists of:
Database adapter, which polls the database for changes, retreives a changed row, and passes the generated XML to -
"receive" router service, which simply passes the retrieved database XML data to -
"execute" router service, which transforms the XML and passes the new message to -
File Adapter, which writes the transformed XML to a file.
The problem is that the database polling is not updating the sequence recorder - I have tried using a sequence file which stores the personnumber, a sequence table which stores the personnumber and a sequence table which stores the last-updated timestamp. In all cases the database adapter successfully reads the sequence file/table and retreives the correct row, based on the sequence value ( I have tested this by manually changing the sequence value), the data is transformed and a correct xml file is created, but the system then fails to update the sequence file/table so that when the next polling time comes around the very same database row is extracted again and again and again.
In the ESB control panel I have one error: "Response payload for operation "receive" is invalid!"
The Trace is:

The payload above is the XML output from the Database adapter, the xsd for which was autogenerated by JDeveloper, so I don't understand how it can be invalid.
I have only been working with ESB for 3 days, but half of that time has now been spent stuck on this issue. Anyone got any ideas??
RichardYou need to be careful. Submit and committing to the database are two different things.
Submit on a page (and autoSubmit the property) are only posting the changes you typed into the field, back down to the application server. NOTHING is happening with the database at this point. So the applications's internal "cache" of records (using something like ADF BC) is holding the changes but the database doesn't know anything. So if you quit now, no changes will go to the database.
These changes onlyget submitted down to the app server when you do some sort of action like press a button. Simply navigating fields will be doing nothing back to the app server. If you add autoSubmit then you will automatically submit the changes on that field down to the app server when you leave the field (but again, this is not touching the database)
You have to explicitly add a COMMIT operation to save those changes to the database.
Maybe if you try in a simple EMP example and send us your findings we can help direct you further.

Rapid updates are not supported for datasets that do not have a record specification model specified in the record spec file.
Stemming should be enabled for 1 languagesHello,
I believe there are two different issues that may be occurring here, so we can start with the easiest one first, the error message in AuthoringDgraph. The error message is being triggered as it can't find a property within your records that has been flagged as a Record Specifier (aka Record Spec or RecSpec). In the Endeca world, this is similar to what a Primary Key on a table would accomplish in a relational database. These Record Specs are used in many ways for record retrieval, but it's not neccessary to have one put in place.
If you don't specify a property to be a Record Spec, than Endeca will create one for you. However - and this is where the error message comes in - you cannot perform updates to the data, known as a Partial Update. Since Endeca hasn't been told what property will uniquely represent a specific record, it can't receive updates to update/delete them. That's where the "Rapid Updates" comes into play.
There are two choices for this, firstly specify a property as a Record Spec, either through Developer Studio, or through the IOC/CSV overrides if you're using the product catalog integration method (what ATG uses to send data to Endeca). The second option is to disable Rapid Update (partial updates) functionality in your index - you'll need to comment out references to "partial" directories in the various Dgraph XML configurations in your config/scripts directory. However, that does go against Endeca Best Practices which are to always have a Record Spec.
And now onto the second issue, the error with the "backup_log_dir_for_component_AuthoringDgraph" script. This isn't an uncommon type of error, and may be unrelated to the issue above. The usual culprits for this are permission errors, inability to obtain a lock, etc. These scripts are run by the EAC and not the application, so are stored in a different location.
Firstly, find the installation directory for Platform Services on your system. Inside it should be a logging directory, and you're looking for workspace/logs/utility/<appName>.backup_log_dir_for_component_AuthoringDgraph.txt inside there. Open up that file, and it should help to clarify what the issue is - if not, then please post it's contents here and we can delve deeper.
Best,

I have no idea what is wrong with this code.. Can someone please try to debug this code..
This is the javabean method declaration
public void updatePersonalInfo(String FirstName, String LastName, int Age, String Gender, String Address, String City, String State, int ZipCode, String Country, int PhoneNumber, String PhoneType, String Occupation, String pk) throws SQLException, Exception
if(con!=null)
try
PreparedStatement updatepersonal;
String s = "Update PersonalInfo set FirstName = ?, LastName = ?, Age = ?, Gender = ?, Address = ?, City = ?, State = ?, ZipCode = ?, Country = ?, PhoneNumber = ?, PhoneType = ?, Occupation = ? WHERE pk = ?";
updatepersonal = con.prepareStatement(s);
updatepersonal.setString(1,FirstName);
updatepersonal.setString(2,LastName);
updatepersonal.setInt(3,Age);
updatepersonal.setString(4,Gender);
updatepersonal.setString(5,Address);
updatepersonal.setString(6,City);

updatepersonal.executeUpdate();
catch(SQLException sqle)
error = "SQLException: Fail to Update Data";
throw new SQLException(error);
else

And this is the .jsp file

I really have no idea what is wrong with this code..

I start my macbook air up and a file comes up with a question mark. When I go to Disk Utility I go to update things or erase everything and my disks don't show up or anything. Anyone know what to do?
Question (?) Mark, Blinking Folder, or Gray Screen at Startup
These are related but not identical issues. Their causes are outlined in Intel-based Mac- Startup sequence and error codes, symbols. Solutions may be found in:
A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac
Mac OS X- Gray screen appears during startup
In most cases the problems may be caused by:
Problem with the computer's PRAM - See Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM.
Boot drive's directory has been corrupted - Repair with Disk Utility.
Critical system files are damaged or deleted - Reinstall OS X.
The disk drive is physically non-functional - Replace the hard drive.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
The main difference if you are using Lion or Mountain Lion is that you must first boot from the Recovery HD:
Boot From The Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstall Snow Leopard Without Erasing The drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions

2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing The Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -

Hello,
I upgraded recently the Oracle database from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.2. (on AIX )
Since then, the backups do not more function correctly.
As in the BRBACKUP Action Log for Database, the following errors occured:
- BR0232E 0 of 90 files saved by backup utility
- BR0231E Backup utility call failed
- Cannot reopen backint log file as stderr
So, I checked the permissions for /usr/sap/DIS/SYS/exe/run/backint, the path and permission are set properly.
I checked the also log '/nsr/applogs/backintSID.log' and I noted that the system does not write any more in this file since last successful backup (befor the Upgrade)
Many Thanks in advance for your help
NB : according to the SAP Note 948294, I deleted the options cio, dio in /etc/filesystems
Best regards

My current Br*tools version is : BR0651I BRTOOLS 7.10 (30). I upgraded an other DEV System before, it has the same BRTOOLS version as my test system, and the backup works well.
Firstly, rename backintSID.log to backintSID.log.1 and start a new backup. By doing so, the system will try to create a new trace file. If it is not able to create trace file, check the permissions of its directory(/nsr/applogs). At the end of this operation, could you provide full trace?
Secondy, even you are able to execute the brtools 7.10 on your dev system, I still strongly recommend update it to 7.20. Check the note 12741 - Current versions of BRTools and SAPDBA
Thirdly, is brbackup forked by a 3rd party backup application or manually at the OS level by orasid user?
Best regards,
