Java applets in reports?

I'm working with a client who's using a product that stores strings of data that are translated to simple floor plan drawings. They'd like to be able to print reports with these drawings in them, but the only display tool I have available is a Java applet. Is there any way to embed the display output of this applet into a Reports document?

1) create a text box where you want the applet to appear
2) insdie the text box, type/paste the HTML code that calls the applet. for example:
<base href=http://cagney.uk.oracle.com/java/NervousText/>
<applet code="NervousText.class" width=&ObjectWidth height=&<ObjectHeight>>
<param name=text value="&deptno">
</applet>
(this example from the Help in Oracle Reports)
3) in the property palette of the text box set Contains HTML Tags to YES.
4) the applet itself needs to be on the reports server in the directory where the reports are stored. (check metalink.oracle.com on this, its been a while, and it may actually be a system directory)
when the report is called up in your browser the applet should appear.
If i left something out, check metalink. THere are white papers on this issue. Good luck!

  • Putting Java Applets in Cell in Report

    I am in a small biotech and am trying to put together a chemi-bioinformatics application with HTMLDB. I want to have chemical structures (2D & 3D) show up in reports in the same row with the data associated with that chemical (e.g. properties, assay results, etc.)
    I have found several Java applets that work well. These are uploaded along with the chemical structure files (as static files)and referenced using #WORKSPACE_IMAGES# in the path in the HTML/Javascript.
    What I would like to do is to have the structural info (essentially it is formated alphanumeric text) in a table linked to the appropriate chemical id and associated data.
    This will be displayed as a report with the first cell of each row containing the applet (with a reference to read in the structural info cell on the same row).
    How can I embed the applet into the first cell of each row on the report?
    Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
    -Dave Hecht

    our oracle support analyst was checking around internally re your issue, and tipped your hand a little by saying you're trying to have your #MOLFILE# column render as a textarea. as you've probably found, those "Updateable Column Attributes" are ignored when you specify an HTML Expression. since you would still like to have your data render as updatable while applying some of that html expression formatting, consider manually making your #MOLFILE# column updatable. if you do that, you'd have 100% control over the id values that you're having issues with. so if you had a report query like...
    select molfile from my_table
    ...and you indicated that you wanted molfile to render as a textarea, you'd find the generated html for each row to look something like this...
    <textarea name="f01" rows="15" cols="15" wrap="VIRTUAL" id="f01_000N">some molfile data here</textarea></td>
    ...where N is the associated #ROWNUM#. so if you're having a hard time referencing your values after rownum=9, as i'm gathering, you could consider manually naming your cells (though there's probably a more proper/fancy way to dynamically reference those higher rownum values, i just haven't looked for one). to do so you could turn off the "Updateable Column Attributes" by setting the "Display As" field in that region to "Display as Text (does not save state)". then drop something like...
    <textarea name="f01" rows="15" cols="15" wrap="VIRTUAL" id="f01_#ROWNUM#">#MOLFILE#</textarea></td>
    ...into the "HTML Expression" field for your molfile column. the part of this syntax that needs to conform to htmldb standards is the "name" value. this is somewhat explained in our tabular form how-to doc at...
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/database/htmldb/howtos/tabular_form.html#MANUAL
    ...but the form elements with names f01, f02, f03, etc will be accessible during the htmldb engine's accept processing via those pl/sql varchar arrays, htmldb_application.g_f01, htmldb_application.g_f02, htmldb_application.g_f03, etc. if you're using an htmldb wizard-generated tabular form instead of one you're creating yourself, just make sure your HTML Expression code provides the same html form element names that would have been used by the unaltered form.
    hope this helps,

  • FF plugin checking reports java applet plugin vulnerable on OS X Lion but not Snow Leopard?

    On Firefox 10.0.1 running on OS X 10.7.3, the mozilla.org plugincheck tells me that my Java Applet Plug-in is Vulnerable while running the same check on FF 10.0.1 on my Mini running 10.6.8 indicates that the Java Plu-in 2 for NPAPI Browsers is ok. The version of Java on both systems is the same (version 1.6.0.29). Why the discrepancy? Is there something I need to fix on the 10.7.3 system?

    No because Java on OS X comes from Apple, not Oracle and is updated whenever Apple gets around to it.

  • Problem Launching Java Applet with Plug-in: Version 1.4.2_01

    Hello out there:
    I recently installed j2re-1.4.2_01 on my home computer but have been unable to access Web sites emmploying JAva applets. The following is an email exchange with Jeff Hall of Lowell Observatory, manager of an educational site hosted by Lowell, trying to resolve my problem. The messages are better understood if read in reverse order.
    I'm hoping that someone will recognize the source of my problem and can recommmend a solution. I would appreciate any help offered.
    Thanks,
    Mike Coucke
    Hi Jeff:
    Well, I guess the problem lies with me somewhere. Here's my answer/status to your questions/suggestions:
    1) I'm using MS Windows Me version 4.90.3000
    2) I do have the directory C:\Windows\.jpi_cache\jar\, but the only thing in it is an empty folder labeled "1.0". The file LP.jar does not exist anywhere on my hard drive.
    3) I tried several game sites that utilized Java applets and got the same results: the Java cup in the upper left corner followed a few seconds later by the red "X". So, evidently the problem is somewhere on my end.
    I'm going to post our email exchanges in a Java Users Forum managed by Sun to see if anyone out there can solve my problem. However, if you have any more suggestions, I'll be glad to try them.
    Thanks for the help.

    Mike,
    Rats! What version of Windows are you using? It's a little strange to
    see the user directory set to C:\Windows; if you're using XP, I'd expect
    it to be something like C:\Documents and Settings\Mike Coucke. In any
    event, the output that is of concern is these two lines:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: LPRemote.class
    Caused by: java.net.UnknownHostException: proxy
    It looks like your browser is not finding our server's IP when it comes
    time to download the necessary Java code.
    LPRemote.class is the fundamental code that runs LOPARC, and your
    browser should be downloading it automatically when you click connect.
    LPRemote.class is stored along with a bunch of other classes in a file
    called "LP.jar" that you download from our server. So, if you go to C:
    in Windows Explorer and do a file search for LP.jar, you should find it.
    On my machine, it's stored in a directory called ".jpi_cache\jar\" in my
    user home directory. Let me know if you have this file, or the
    jpi-cache directory.
    One other thing you might try is going to a different site that you know
    uses Java applets -- I think some of the online game rooms at Yahoo use
    Java. See if other sites that use Java load correctly. Then we'll know
    if it's our server specifically, or a more general problem on your end.

    Hello Jeff:
    I still have the Java "blues". I followed your instructions, but am still unable to launch a LOPARC session. After an initial failure, I uninstalled all three Java versions I had (1.4.0, 1.4.1, 1.4.2), then reinstalled 1.4.2_01 from the Sun website.
    Now, when I try to launch LOPARC, I initially get a blank window with the Java cup in the upper left corner. After about 20 seconds, the cup changes to a red "X". During those 20 seconds, the following appear in the IE message bar at the bottom of the window: "Applet LPRemote notinited" (their spelling) which changes to "Loading Java Applet Failed..." when the red "X" appears.
    Following is a copy of the log from my Java Console during all of this:

    Hi Mike,
    Try it now. I think this problem has arisen because Sun just
    released a new version of the Plug-in (1.4.2), and when we released the
    public beta of LOPARC, only one relevant version (1.4.0) was available
    and the LOPARC code was written to look for that by default. I have
    just recoded the relevant routines so they should now cause your browser
    to simply pick up the latest 1.4 version of the Plug-in you have
    installed, whatever it is. I "broke" Java on my machine to replicate
    your problem, and the code I inserted today did fix it. Hopefully it
    will have the same effect for you. I am running IE 6 and plugin
    1.4.2_01 (as accessed via Tools->Sun Java Console).
    One broader problem: some (non-LOPARC-specific) users on the Sun
    forums have reported the "JRE collision" you are seeing when multiple
    versions of the Plug-in are installed on the same machine. So if the
    fix I made to our code doesn't work, one option would be to uninstall
    all Java components from your computer and do a fresh install of the
    latest runtime environment.
    Let me know how/if this works. Thanks for the feedback and for your
    patience.
    Best regards,

    So far, I have been unable to launch a LOPARC session. I repeatedly

    My browser is MS Internet Explorer version 6.0.2800.1106 Initially I was

    Before I try to launch LOPARC, I can select Tools->Sun Java Console from

    Dear Michael Coucke:
    Thank you for registering with Lowell Observatory's online education
    site. We hope you enjoy using it and visit regularly as we continue to
    expand its features and capabilities. This is a one-time welcoming
    email.
    For your records, your user ID is xxxxx, and your password is #########.
    You'll need to supply these each time you log in.
    This site gives you access to research-grade equipment including a 16"
    telescope, CCD detector, and image processing software. Our online
    archive of data is now available 24/7. The telescope will be opening to
    our onsite users in May, and on select nights to the Internet at large
    in June.
    We have designed this site so you don't need a huge monitor or a
    supercomputer to use it. All pages are viewable on screens running at
    800x600 resolution or higher. To use LOPARC, you'll need a Java-enabled
    browser with the Java 1.4 plug-in installed. If you don't have the
    plug-in, you'll be prompted to download it the first time you attempt to
    connect. This is an admittedly large (9 MB) but one-time-only download.
    This site works correctly under Internet Explorer version 5 or higher.
    If you use Netscape, you must be running version 6 or higher, and
    display or applet behavior anomalies may occur.
    If at any time you can't connect to our server, simply try again later.
    We do experience several power outages each year, particularly during
    Flagstaff's summer thunderstorm season. Our server is fully protected
    and backed up, and can be quickly brought back on line, but any active
    user sessions will be lost. Thanks for your patience during these
    inevitable downtimes.
    Your questions, comments, suggestions, and bug reports about this site
    are always welcome. On behalf of the LOPARC development team, thanks
    for signing up!

    disable the proxy. It looks like the error message is
    saying it can't find your proxy server, and the logs
    you posted say that you've decided to configure your
    proxy manually, rather than using the settings from
    IE (which is how mine is set up in the plugin
    control panel.)
    Could that be the problem?

  • Java Applets do not run when UAC is enabled on Windows 7

    HI,
    I'm deploying Java 6.0_26-b03+ on Windows 7 and experiencing following problem:
    Java applets do not run as standard domain users in Internet Explorer 9 on Windows 7 when UAC is enabled (i.E. http://www.java.com/de/download/installed.jsp). When logged on as Administrator or start IE9 as Administrator java applets do run.
    If I diable UAC an log on as normal user then applets do run. Applets then still run if UAC is re-enabled again. It seems that UAC needs to be disabled for the Java Plug-In to register something in user context (assumption). If this registration happended Java applets do run also for standard Windows 7 users if UAC is enabled.
    Since we're planning a corporate Windows 7 rollout (>800PCs) we cannot do this manually on every computer. Ther must be any solution for this problem.
    Does anybody have the same problem and has already found a solution?
    This is the content of the error log file generated when a standard domain user tries to run http://www.java.com/de/download/installed.jsp

    Since we're planning a corporate Windows 7 rollout (>800PCs) we cannot do this manually on every computer. Ther must be any solution for this problem.If you're doing a corporate rollout of that size then surely you're just making an image of the desired configuration and just duplicating it onto the 800 PCs? In which case you would just configure IE appropriately as part of the image.
    Or alternatively you are manually configuring each of the 800 PCs, in which case this would be just one more thing in the checklist.

  • Java Applet in a HTML page: failing with PLS-00306: wrong number of args

    We are trying to use a Java Applet in a HTML page. as our system needs to be able to retrieve a predefined set of data from a third party system that uses Dynamic Data Exchange Protocol (DDE) and are encountering errors from APEX and in IE itself.
    We are using JavaDde from www.nevaobject.com that enables our Java applet to interact with Windows applications (Third Party System) using DDE.
    This functionality is currently used in our Web Form 6i application and we are trying to use the same in the new ApEx application.
    We are using ApEx version : 2.1 and actually aer encountering 2 problems:
    Problem 1: ApEx failing with PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'ACCEPT'
    Problem 2: IE crashes if Applet used in a complex page with several regions (1 Context, 4 Report Regions, 2 level Tabs, Links)
    This problem does not occur in the page where there is only applet and one region. In the case of complex page the IE crashes if the page is reloaded
    Test scenario:
    1- Create a simple page with the HTML region.
    2- Define the Source of the above region as follows
    <OBJECT CLASSID="clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93"
    CODEBASE="http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/autodl/jinstall-1_4-windows-i586.cab#version=1,4,0,0"
    WIDTH="1"
    HEIGHT="1"
    ID="simpleApplet"
    NAME="simpleApplet">
    <PARAM NAME="code" VALUE="simpleApplet.class" >
    <PARAM NAME="archive" VALUE="simpleApplet.jar" />
    <PARAM NAME="type" VALUE="application/x-java-applet;version=1.4">
    </OBJECT>
    3- Create a simple Java applet "simpleApplet" - for the test its enough if the applet will have just the init method printing out the mesage to the console
    4- Create a Submit Button (not redirect) in Region Header and create unconditional (do not set When Button Pressed property) Page Branch to navigate to another page (the page without the applet)
    6- Run the page and Submit -
    The error below is returned by the engine:
    In our case our applet is called ddeApplet - I do not know why is ApEx passing the Applet's ID down to the wwv_flow.accept method as a parameter

  • Java Applets not working with Firefox 5 properly

    Java Applets work sometime. But after sometime the Java icon at the bottom (near date & time) disappears. After this no matter what I do it does not work. Java Applets are used in this case to draw charts. The same charts come out properly in Internet Explorer. But I prefer using Firefox for its speed. What is the reason for this problem ?

    -> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
    -> go to Help Menu -> select "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"
    Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Now do this:
    -> Update ALL your Firefox Plug-ins https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
    -> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> unselect All Unwanted toolbars
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Content -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Block Pop-up windows 2) Load images automatically 3) Enable JavaScript
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Privacy -> History section -> ''Firefox will: '''select "Remember History"'''''
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Security -> place Checkmarks on:
    1) Warn me when sites try to install add-ons 2) Block reported attack sites 3) Block reported web forgeries 4) Remember Passwords for sites
    -> Click OK on Options window
    -> click the Favicon (small drop down menu icon) on Firefox SearchBar (its position is on the Right side of the Address Bar) -> click "Manage Search Engines" -> select all Unwanted Search Engines and click Remove -> click OK
    -> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious Extensions (Add-ons) -> Restart Firefox
    You can enable your Known & Trustworthy Add-ons later. Check and tell if its working.

  • Starting Java Applet Slowly

    Hi Folks,
    I have problem with my application.
    user Oracle Developer Suite 10g
    file server use Win XP SP 2.
    sometimes java applet start slowly in several client but quickly in other time.
    sometimes form runs slowly but sometimes very quick.
    in service, report server are started but when user run report to the that report server error "unabled to connect to the report server....".
    What's the solution for my problem ?
    i did re-install oracle developer and win xp but the problem still not solved.
    Thanks in advance...

    Dear Ronald,
    Are the slow and fast clients running against the same middle tier?
    Yes
    Are there hardware differences between the clients? - disks?, graphics cards? processor?
    Software differences on the clients?
    No, all clients same in hardware, disk, graphics cards, processor and software.
    Are the slow/fast clients on different networks?
    Yes.
    for a while when that problem appears, i do restart the form server
    or re-install oracle jinitiator on clients.

  • Bug: Java applet cannot print, even with print permission granted.

    I was not able to file this bug report at the official Apple bug report site, so...
    Summary:
    When a java applet initiates a print job, the user is (correctly) presented with a dialog requesting permission for printing. Once permission is granted, the printing subsystem attempts to communicate with CUPS at localhost:631, and permission is denied. To the naive user, it appears that the applet is broken.
    Steps to Reproduce:
    Go to
    http://www.wordle.net/gallery/wrdl/921427/WordleCore_SourceCode
    Once the applet has loaded, click the button labelled "Print...".
    Expected Results:
    After permitting printing, the user should see the print dialog, and printing should proceed as normal.
    Actual Results:
    Here is the relevant section of the stack trace generated when this happens:

    Regression:
    This problem was introduced only with the most recent Java update.
    Notes:
    There is no workaround for the applet author, other than to use a signed applet, which is prohibitively expensive, and which should not be required for printing, anyway. It's difficult to instruct the user in how to grant the appropriate permissions via policy files, since the finder will not allow a user to create a file named ".java.policy" in their home directory, and since the system policy file is write-protected.

    You should file a bug report with Apple at http://bugreport.apple.com if you have a developer account or at http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html if you do not have a developer account.
    Good luck w/your issue and please update this thread if you encounter a solution.

  • Problem running Java applets since Java update 2 (1.6.0_20)

    Hi,
    Since I upgraded to Java update 2, Java applets started having problems. The most noticeable ones are:
    Non-modal windows appear behing the browser Window (tested Safari 4, 5, Chrome 5).
    Double buffering not working as usual (slower, white boxes appear when dragging a window, etc.)
    Slower rendering in general
    The same applications run perfectly using Java Web Start. And they used to work very well also in Java update 1.
    The application can be tested here (press ok if a login prompt appears):
    Java applet: http://jmap3.k2geospatial.com/montreal_applet/
    Java Web Start: http://jmap3.k2geospatial.com/montreal_jws/dockingClient.jnlp
    Our applications running in applets use the new plug-in 2 with JNLP files.
    Notice the Java startup splash (the animated sun-like logo) is not moving as smoothly as usual. It is very jerky now.
    Are these problems known by anyone?
    How can I downgrade Java to previous version?
    sorry I cross-posted this in Unix forum also. I think it is better here.
    Thank you,
    Jean-Robert

    Since the last Java update on mac, all my OpenGL applets stop working and now just shows a white screen on Chrome, Firefox and Opera. They was working well on all browsers (Safari/WebKit,Chrome,Firefox,Opera) just before the update.
    The trouble maker seem to be the java plugin 2 and the new offscreen rendering pipeline, as reported by jrhaddad with the disucssion linked to the different Java/OpenGL community forums.
    This is a huge regression for me, and I think for all hobbies/ independent developers and all companies who are doing some Java/OpenGL develoment. All our work just stop working since this update.
    If would really want to know from Apple if they are working on this problem and/or how this can be solved.
    Should this be fixed by Apple with a new java update, or should the various browsers must upgrade their applet support plugins according to the new java plugin 2 changes ?
    Best Regards,
    Jérôme

  • Proxy Login Request on Java applets

    • 10.4.5 Client
    • Windows 2.3k ISA 2005 Proxy Server
    • Users' fileserving to Win2.3k - ADmitMac for AD integration
    The client is a test machine on which I build campus master NetInstall images. In my testing procedures I've come across a bizarre problem with Java in the browsers (IE, Safari, & FireFox).
    We use ISA proxy server with web filtering, and users must authenticate to the proxy. On a new user's first use of any browser, the proxy username & password are requested, and the Add to Keychain checkbox is available. If the user checks the box, no further proxy login requests are made; the user's Keychain is updated with the proxy information.
    On pages with Java applets, however, each and every applet will ask for a proxy login, but the login window does not offer a Add to Keychain checkbox! If a page has 15 applets on it, the user will be asked 15 times to authenticate against the proxy.
    Naturally, this is a BIG problem, especially when several of the sites our teachers use in classes and labs contain many Java applets.
    On the web, there is almost nothing concerning setting up Java with proxy servers, as all Apple Java from v. 1.4.2 onwards picks up proxy information from the system's network settings.
    On the Apple Developer site, Tech Note QA1263 demonstrates a way of setting HTTPS proxy settings by entering text strings in the 1.3.1 and 1.4.1 Plugin Settings apps Java Runtime Parameters. The same capability exists in the J2SE 5.0 Java Preferences app, too. Unfortunately, the Java applets do not use HTTPS, so far as I can tell, so this remedy is useless.
    Any clues I can pursue? Any help or fixes?

    After some more research with the J2SE 5.0 Java Preferences app, I turned on the Java console, booted Safari and went to my favorite Java applet - babynamewizard. This is the output of the console log. From what I can glean, the plug-in sees the proxy server settings as it should, and reports them.
    In addition, the J2SE 5.0 Java Preferences app allows you to turn off all security settings. No change in behavior.

    network C =network of the society to which client has externalized the hardware
    The communication path is: network A -> network B -> network C
    server1 and server2 are on network C.
    From the client's computers in network A, Web Analysis Studio and Web Administration Services Console (both using java applets)
    have very very slow response times. To give you an idea, an blank report in Web Analysis needs 10min to open. With Web Admin Console I can't do anything: in an empty outline, I added 2 dimensions with 1 member each, when I tried 'Save outline' after 20mins of waiting a response the system also freezed.
    When I work in remote control directly on server1, Web Analysis studio and Web Admin Console are very very fast.
    This happens only with these two components, the other web components not using java applet (Workspace ecc) don't have this problem.
    That made me think there is a network issue. But ping and tracert to both servers (1,2) from the client machines gave me positive results.
    I don't know what else to test/try.
    Any help will be appreciated!
    Thank you!
    Daniela

    Ciao,
    It seems Web Analysis works well only with jre 1.5.0 update 11. I had java 1.6.0 update 4. I had disintalled java 1.6.0_4, installed 1.5.0_11 and now web analysis applet won't even load.
    The java console makes me see the following messages (I replaced by hand the real server name with the server_name):

    Here is the scenario:
    I go to http://www.missionred.com/
    I play some of the games there
    After a few hundred clicks the java applet crashes
    This is using any browser, I've tested it in IE, FireFox and Opera
    I am using JDK 1.5.0_07
    it creates logs on my desktop
    here is how they all begin:
