Java passing values

Hi,
when i did C programming,i could pass in 2 values values by reference to a method called change values.
In java how do i pass in 2 values by reference to a method,and in return,the method changes 2 values that are passed in.
Do guide.
Thanks alot.
Rahul

Java does not pass values by reference at all ever.
You may only pass by value.

    Anyone knows how to pass value from Java to Perl program?

    Did you write the perl program? Can you change it? Or are you trying to interface to something that already exists? This will limit your options, of course.
    Anyway the first option is simple. The java program does this:
    System.out.println("This is a line of input.");The perl program does this:
    while(<>)and in that block, $_ is assigned to each line of input.
    Then you can invoke both like this:
    $ java MyJavaProgram | perl MyPerlProgram.pl

  • Passing Values to a BW Template through Java - Dynpage

    Hello All!
    -I have one Java-Dynpage Application. I have created an
    Iview from that PAR file.
    -This Dynpage accepts some input from user(say his employee number) and displays some data from SQL server.
    -Now I want that when the user enters the input and clicks submit button, these values should be passed to a BW template to execute the BW report based on this input.
    -In other words, i want to display another Iview which will display a BW report based on the values passed from my Dynpage.
    <b>Is it possible to pass the values to a BW template from java?</b>
    If yes, how do i do it?
    Any suggestions are welcome....

    You can have two Iviews:
    1.Your existing Java Iview
    2. Standard BW Report as an Iview.
    when submit button is hit on Iview1. Use EPCF to pass values to Iview2.Then build your new bw url based on the values you get from iview1 thru EPCF.
    Search for EPCF on sdn.
    So , yes it is possible to pass values to a BW template from Dynpage or JSP using EPCF.
    regards,
    P.

    Hi.
    Yoy can the next options for make this:
    1. Pass your values in http request.
    example: http://localhost/index.jsp?var1=value1&var2=value2&var3....
    2. You can use a no visible frame (of height or width 0) and keep your variables and values there using Javascript, but of this form, single you will be able to check the values in the part client, not in the server. Of this form, the values of vars are not visible from the user in the navigation bar.
    Greeting.

  • How to pass value from jsp to java bean

    I have huge problem . How to pass value from jsp value to java bean.Please replay me soon

    Use the <jsp:setProperty> tag. There are several ways to use it. The one you probably want is:

  • Can a java app pass values to a c-shell script?

    hello everyone,
    I'm running a shell script that executes a java app.
    I need to pass values from the java app to the shell script, such that I can code
    java myapp
    echo <value1>
    echo <value2>where value1 and value2 have been set in the app.
    is there a way to do this?
    Thanks for your help.
    Tom

    Wira, I've tried this, and can't get it to work. The
    problem may be that Runtime.getRuntime().exec() is
    running the script on a separate process(?), Yep.
    and I
    never see any output in the same context as the
    script that's running the java app.
    I've tried this from the command line as well, and I
    don't see any output from the script being called
    from the java app.
    I know the script is being run, because if I change
    the script name to a name that doesn't exist, I get
    an ioexception, when I change it back everything runs
    ok.
    Note that I'm testing this under XP with batch files;
    eventually it will run on unix.
    does that make a difference right now?Forget java for right now.
    Start working on a way for the script to hoist the values into itself.
    For example if the script calls another script which does the echo what happens?
    Or can you call another script, set some env variables, and then see them in the original script?

  • Java Thread - difficulty while passing value from parent to child thread

    Hi All,
    I am calling a java program from a unix script .
    My oblectives are
    1)to pass value from scripts to main java class
    2)main class should create a child thread and pass data to child and should return control back to script
    3)child thread should run independtly of parent
    The calling unix script is part of process and hence should return control back to its calling script immediately.
    Findings
    1)Without passing data thru setter getter /constructor method to child thread my objectives are met
    2)When I pass the data from parent thread to child thread calling unix scripts wait till child thread finishesh its working

    aschin,
    You seem to be confusing Java Threads with Operating System Processes.
    If you want you're java program to run in the unix background then you'll need to run it in the unix background. Java (being o/s agnostistic) doesn't provide process manipulation functionality (which would include the ability to throw itself into the background, as a C program can) in the standard API, and it's hard to imagine any third party producing anything as low level as a process controler... so yeah, just start the java program in the background... and you'll need to workout some interprocess communication protocol... named pipes have worked well for me in the past, as they doesn't suffer from the quit same performance issues as real disk files.
    Good luck. Keith.

  • In portlets, how to use a html form passing  values to the another page?

    it is well known that in web developing , we have two methods to pass values to another page.<!--
    1. passing values
    2.<form action="nextPage" method ="post"></form>-->
    but how to use two methods in oracle portal portlets?
    I have got a simple example which submit two values to the page for itself, means a page has a form with submit botton, user input the form with values and then submit them by submit botton, then the page recevice those values and show it .
    this example is powered by oracle ,

    Hi Moonsoft,
    I have already answered this query in the other post at Re: how to link more than one links in portlet?(jsp develop)
    <form name = "showPageForm" method = "POST" action = "<%= UrlUtils.htmlFormActionLink(pReq,UrlUtils.PAGE_LINK) %>">
      <%= UrlUtils.htmlFormHiddenFields(pReq,UrlUtils.PAGE_LINK, "showPageForm") %>

      <input type="text" name="param2">
      <input type="hidden" name="myPPN" value="/htdocs/page2.jsp">
    </form>then in your jsp code on page2.jsp, you will extract the parameters by specifying
    <%
      String p1 = request.getParameter("param1");
      String p2 = request.getParameter("param2");
    %>
    >>this is easy common jsp or asp development, but in oracle is too diffcult!!!!
    :-) .. there is a difference between web-applications and portlets, you just need to get used to it once. I hope this does clarify your doubts.

  • HOW TO PASS VALUE TO STORED PROCEDURE through page

    Hi
    I want to create generate next number on base of type. I have created stored procedure with passing  three value input. If I am passing value manually through page then next number is generating. But I don't to pass value manually, I have to assign value internally as per database record.
    Sameh Nassar: Create PL/SQL Function And Call It From Your ADF Application
    I did same thing in my application,It is working,Output like that
    Value = INV
    Result= 26400080
    Now I have to assign value TRANSCATION  TYPE through bean class or  assign another textbox value. I did in my program in the following ways
       <af:inputText value="INV"
                                                              label="#{bindings.p_transaction_type.hints.label}"
                                                              required="#{bindings.p_transaction_type.hints.mandatory}"
                                                              columns="#{bindings.p_transaction_type.hints.displayWidth}"
                                                              maximumLength="#{bindings.p_transaction_type.hints.precision}"
                                                              shortDesc="#{bindings.p_transaction_type.hints.tooltip}"
                                                              id="it16" binding="#{InvoiceJobOrderBean.transacation_type}"
                                                              partialTriggers="it16">
                                                    <f:validator binding="#{bindings.p_transaction_type.validator}"/>
                                                </af:inputText>
    then  I got the following error.
    <MethodExpressionActionListener> <processAction> Received 'javax.faces.event.AbortProcessingException' when invoking action listener '#{bindings.generateNextNumber.execute}' for component 'cb2'
    <MethodExpressionActionListener> <processAction> javax.faces.event.AbortProcessingException: ADFv: Abort processing exception.

    hi user,
    please don't continue  your discussion on others thread.
    https://forums.oracle.com/thread/369112
    it will be treated as hijacking.  Admin will lock out the thread. and your problem is contrary to the thread.
    coming to your problem,
    did you ever get a chance to read the error it is self explanatory. or else goggle it out to understand.
    It is not operation binding problem. while invoking the operation binding you are calling some db function from there you caught.
    coming to your requirement,
    create generate next number on base of type. please check will multi user environment it working properly or not.

  • Passing values for a prepared statement encounters problem

    I have a query which runs fine when executed from sqlplus
    SELECT SYSDATE + (INTERVAL '10' MINUTE) FROM dual;
    The same query when run using a java statement also works well.
    when I use a Prepared statement like
    String sql = SELECT SYSDATE + (INTERVAL ? MINUTE) FROM dual;
    PreparedStatement ps = this.getPreparedStatement(sql.toString());
    ps.setString(1, "10");
    and execute I get the following exception
    ORA-00920: invalid relational operator
    I tried another way which also gives me a similar exception
    String timeout = "10";
    SELECT SYSDATE + (INTERVAL" + timeout + "MINUTE) FROM dual;
    Can anybody tell me why the problem happens. Is anything wrong in passing values dynamically for an 'interval' function in oracle?

    Yes friends
    Thanks for the reply. It worked out this way as u said
    sql.append("SELECT SYSDATE + (INTERVAL ");
    sql.append("'" + Integer.parseInt(timeout) + "' MINUTE) FROM dual");
    Mr.masijade said.
    First of all, there is no reason to do this command, really, but okay.
         There may be scenarios like this to use the command
              select * from mytable where (systimestamp - lastUpdateTimestamp) > Interval '10' Minute
    Is there any other better way to get all records updated before a certain timestamp?Use Timestamp to create a timestamp and PreparedStatement's setTimestamp(), maybe?

  • JSP Custom Tags, Tag Handlers, Passing values

    Multiple questions here while I try to work with custom tags (its a requirement):
    From what I have had so far - I have a .tld file, a .java file and a .jsp page.
    (this is not a working version as I just got it from a website)
    platform: tomcat on an xp box.
    I was wondering if we can pass the parameters that are passed to the the jsp page (like blah.jsp?param1=value1&param2=valu2 ) to the tag handler?
    This is because the processing that I need to do in the handler would depend on what I have in the passed values.
    Any help in letting me know where to place those files on the tomcat context root would help. Please see, I do have a couple of servlets running on the box also and they might be in the same context root.
    Any good short tutorial link is also welcome as a short answer as I try to unravel the custom tags in jsp.

    I am using TomCat 5.5
    What I need to do using tags is to build a web-page on the fly by polling a couple of different tables in the database.
    This is to be done using a jsp and custom tag (requirement) which would be able to handle any resultsets. We also have to come up with pageContext attribute names and supply column names as those attributes. Thus we will have to come up with the meta data file and a tag library descriptor as well.
    I found a helloworld solution on a website and was trying to modify it to meet my needs. But I guess I under-estimated the work that needed to be done in this one.
