Java roundabout with Adobe CS6, Lion

Just wiped my drive and installed a fresh version of Lion via Lion recovery mode.
I install Adobe Photoshop CS6, etc., but on opening Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign I get the 'You need Java runtime' message. I spoke with Adobe, and they clarified that no part of CS6 requires Java Runtime; that it's an old bit of code in Lion that thinks Adobe needs it.
So, sounds like I need to install it, even though it's not needed.
Can it be removed or diabled after the intital launch, or does it sound like Lion is going to want it there, even though it's not needed by CS6? I know there is a Java Preferneces utility that Lion does install, and maybe it can be turned off there?

Assuming Java 7 is already available you can do the following instead of additionally installing Java 6:
Copy the Info.plist located at /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk.1.7.<…>/Contents/ to e.g. ~/Downloads/ and then replace

with the following:

Afterwards copy the file back to its original location (you need administrator rights) and restart your computer. The dialog for Java 6 should shouldn't appear anymore and applications should launch just fine using JRE7.

Hanging problem with Adobe CS6 in Mountain Lion

I recently upgraded my retina Macbook pro to Mountain Lion and was having some trouble with Adobe CS6 apps hanging on startup among other things (including iCal crashing on startup)
I did a clean install of Mountain Lion and Manually rebuilt my applications folder so that Adobe MAster COllection was installed freshly on a clean install of ML.
Now it is still sporadically hanging when I try to open Photoshop, Bridge or other Adobe apps. The only thing that seems to fix it is a restart which is inconvenient when you're in the middle of work.
ANy ideas?

Thanks for this. I had heard of the fonts problem some people have had. All my fonts were freshly installed by either the system or Adobe when I installed Master Collection. Following your advice, I just verified every font and the only problem that showed up (as you had predicted) was a minor duplication which I corrected. So, it seems unlikely to be the fonts.
As for your other point, I have been using Final Cut Pro X and that has worked fine. The only other app that has given me trouble has been Calendar which seems to get strangely stuck sometimes while it is updating. Makes me wonder if there's something going on with the network I'm using.
One thing I hadn't thought of was that it could be a problem with gfx card switcher. This seems unlikely but I'll try disabling it and see if that helps.
Weirdly, today when I had this issue, Photoshop loaded up ok but then hung when I tried to load any file into it. Bridge wouldn't start at all. I didn't try the others. Yesterday I was having problems with Illustrator.
Anyway, I see what you mean about it not being a widespread problem - which is why I started this thread. It seems no one else is having any issues. If anyone else knows what I should look for in my configuration please let me know.

I bought a brand new Mac 27" desktop that came loaded with Adobe CS6. Everything worked like a charm until the hard drive, 1Tb, developed a bad sector and the Apple Store reinstalled a new one as I had extended warranty with them. They recycled the drive immediately (like a fool I didn't ask for it back to get the data off it.) But luckily I have all my data on CrashPlan. I downloaded it and it worked great except I downloaded it to the desktop and not the original location so it got squirrely. I also have an external 1.5Tb drive that I wanted to make bootable so I installed Mavericks 10.9.3 . I then went ahead and installed it on the newly installed drive too.
I think that because I have a new drive Adobe thinks I have a news computer. I bought the 27" Mac brand new from Ebay and it came loaded with software, including CS6. I have a serial number for CS6 but Adobe said it wasn't valid. (I have owned CS2, CS4 and now CS6 which came preloaded onto the Mac by the seller who told me that the software was registered to the Mac???
I am going to re-download the backup but this time to the original location (I still don't think it will work with Adobe. What can I do about this?

Find filter problem with Adobe CS6 and Mavericks

Hi to all!
I've 2 new MacPro with OSX 10.9 (is no possible to downgrade) with Adobe Illustrator CS6 and all software are full updated at the last version.
Firs of all I've found a problem after a last firmware update of my 2 MacPro, in samba connection, solved by AFP implement; in detail:
I've a Qnap storage with samba and afp shares, so when I connect the samba share the search function in finder not find any, but if I connect the same share via AFP protocol, all works good.
Ok, it's a problem but no so bad for me because I've the possibility to use AFP ;-)
Ok, now the big problem:
when I use the CS5 Illustrator and I execute the "insert" command, the search window show blank screen in the search area if I select a qnap sared folder (AFP or SAMBA shared get the same result, 0 element found)
After many and many tests I've solved with a workaround: I've forced the Finder to index the shared folder (from the command line in the console) and in this case I've no more problem...
The problem affect only the afp and samba share, with the local folder (volumes) I don't have any problem.
So, I can't downgrade Maveriks, and I'm sure the problem is not of CS6... then my only solution is to wait a future update of Mavericks?! or anyone can suggest me a solution?

As for Photoshop CS6 itself, I have no issues running
it on Mavericks on my 2011 Mini Server.
Also, before upgrading, make sure any drivers for third
party hardware are up to date and compatible with Mavericks.

Problem with Extensis plug-in with Adobe CS6

I have a Mac running version 10.8.5 OS X and I also have Adobe CS6. I recently update Suitcase Fusion to their newest version (Suitcase Fusion 5) and since then I've been having a lot of problems with CS6. Every time I start the program it gives me the message: "The Extensis plug-in could not locate a running copy of the FMCore application. Auto - activation plug-in functionality will be disabled". I'm not sure how to fix this, so I would appreciate any help!

What does Extensis say?
From where I sit, the error message is telling you that you only updated the plug-in but not the application itself. But only Extensis can clarify that.

New MacBook Pros not compatible with Adobe CS6

I am having constant crashes with inDesign cs6 on new MacBook Pro. Lost a lot of the functionality of my printer—NO LONGER DUPLEXES! That was the purpose of that printer. Anyone with similar experiences. Shame on Apple for not coordinating efforts with Adobe before release!!!

A laptop compatible with Adobe CS6 Master Collection

I need a windows laptop that will be able to run the full Adobe CS6 Master Collection, this will be mainly the only thing I will be running on this laptop. If anyone could give suggestions, that they know will run this software and runs smoothly, I'd really appreciate it!

It's a good laptop, only the screen size is very small. I will prefer larger or a separate monitor >21", which you can connect.

Nikon D7100 Not Compatible with Adobe CS6

I recently purchased a new Nikon D7100 DSLR camera and was quite surprised to find out that it is not compatible with my Adobe CS5 Standard Edition Suite software.
From the little bit of info I found online, it appears that non-upgradable changes to the Camera Raw component between versions CS5 and CS6 have made my software incompatible with my new camera. This means that with my CS5 Standard Suite I cannot open RAW image files in Bridge or Photoshop.
The only two options I have found so far are:
[1] Upgrade my software to CS6 or CC: For me this is cost prohibitive.
[2] Use Adobe's RAW to DNG converter and then open the image files as DNGs in Bridge and Photoshop: It appears that the DBG converter is reducing the file size and this I assume (rightly to wrongly) that it might also be reducing the image quality. To facilitate maximum options in image post production, I want to maintain the extreme detail that RAW provides. I am not sure if DNG will retail the exact same level of detail and quality. Can anyone shed additional light on this?
[3] Are there any other option that I have missed that would allow me to upgrade the Camera Raw component of CS5 so that it is compatible with newer DSLRs like the Nikon D7100?

You have not missed any options for CS5 opening the raw data, directly. The D7100 requires at least CS6/ACR 7.4 or DNGC 7.4 that will make DNGs that will open in older ACR versions.
DNGs may different in size from the NEFs due to differences in lossless compression or a different-sized embedded preview image or even missing Nikon-only metadata in the DNG. In other words, the photosite values for the sensor data should be preserved but the packaging of, or the other data around, the sensor data may be different.
The cheapest option to make PS work with the native raw files is likely PS-CC for $10/month as part of the Photography Plan.
Another option is to purchase (serial number version) or rent (CC Photography Plan version) Lightroom and use it to do what you’d normally do in Bridge and ACR, and then use Edit In Photoshop w/in LR to do finishing touches in your older PS. This option renders a TIF or PSD to disk with all your raw-file adjustments and then passes this file to PS for further editing. The one caveat with buying the serial-number LR is that a new version of LR is probably about ready to come out and waiting until that new version is available would save money.
One thing to consider is that the PS-CS6/ACR 7.x has a new toning model which is an improvement for most images and you don’t have access to that if you’re not using at least CS6.
The reason Adobe doesn’t add new camera support to CS5 (and CS4 and CS3 and CS2 and CS and 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1) forever is because they want to be paid for their work, and if every camera update was free forever people would only buy PS, once, and would keep using that without paying anything more until maybe the OS on their computer wasn’t compatible, anymore. This is one reason Adobe went with CC, so people would pay a little continuously and this constant cashflow would better match Adobe paying their employees continuously, instead of having to budget for the future based on how many new customers might buy an upgrade every 1.5 years or so.

Potential Java conflict with Adobe Flash Player 10?

I applied the Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 1 to my MBP 10.6.2 today and noted a problem that didn't exist before with streaming flash video. When I connect to http://www.adultswim.com and select any flash content to play, all I get is a flashing screen alternating between black and white. I see the problem in Safari, Firefox, Camino, and SWF & FLV Player. An additional symptom noted is that if I access the flash control panel while viewing the flickering screen, I lose control of the panel and cannot close it or change anything. I've been out to Adobe's site and verified that I'm running the latest Flash Player version, 10,0,32,18. I've also run Cocktail and reset permissions just in case. I've not seen this problem on YouTube or any of the content provide by Adobe on their Flash Player page yet.
One additional note, I can launch Windows 7 in Parallels and not have the problem with IE, Safari, and Firefox. Also, my wife's laptop, identical to mine BUT without the Java update does not have this problem at all.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Does anyone have suggestions on where to begin troubleshooting this issue or maybe have a potential solution?

Thanks, I'm curious to find out what's different. I've repair disk permissions again using the one in Disk Utility instead of Cocktail with not luck As far as I can tell, all my issues seem to be occurring solely on www.adultswim.com and is sill happening with Camino, Firefox, Safari, and SWF & FLV Player. I'll keep checking other sites to see if the problem manifests itself elsewhere and I'll post any other changes I make to my system that might appear to help.

Using Dell Latitude D630 with Intel 965 Express Chipset with Adobe CS6 Photoshop 3D features

Here is my configuration:
- I am using Windows 7, 4-bit OS
- Dell Latitude D630, which comes with Intel Mobile 965 Express Chipset and Accelleration Drivers.
- If I press CTRL-ALT-F12, I can see the Intel Graphics Media Acccelerator Driver GUI. There are 3D settings
configuration, which are labelled with OpenGL, and a bunch of values that can flipped on and off. So, I have some
warm fuzzy that OpenGL is enabled on my systme.
- When I look at the details of the driver, it says 9/23/2009, driver version 8.15.10.1930. If I attempt to update
driver, and select search automatically, "Windows determined the driver software for your device is up to date".
So, this gives me some warm fuzzy that I'm on the latest driver.
When I open up PhotoShop CS6, and click on Edit->Preferences->Performance, Detected Graphics processor
is grayed out and I am told that I need to upgrade either my driver or my card. Well, I'm on a laptop so that might
be an issue.
My driver seems to support OpenGL, so is there some configuration thing I can do to get Photoshop to recognize my
video accelerator to make this work?   Or am I out of luck with using 3D and accelerated features with this laptop?

I did try to go through the Intel driver upgrade process.
Visited http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu (Intel Driver update Utility) with IE.
Detected my graphics drivers and indicated that:

So, nothing useful there.   What I find puzzling is the when I hit CTRL-ALT-F12 and click on 3D settings, there
are plenty of configuraiton choices for OpenGL, with many settings being Off.   So, I was hoping that either (a)
there is some combination of choices with these OpenGL options to enable enough of it so that Photoshop CS6 3D features
would work, or (b) maybe registry settings to hack at to "enable" OpenGL or some way of getting Adobe software to try to
rediscover the accelleration support once I change the settings.

The trial of Photoshop CS6 Extended can do anything the licensed version can do, so might as well download it and experiment!
However, keep in mind that the 3D tools in Photoshop CS6 Extended are not as full-featured as a software program dedicated to 3D.

Problems with Adobe CS6 trial

Pictures are not opening when I click on them. The program seems to freeze up. This is a free trial download of CS6/
When I click on file nothing happens. it may work intermittent- Not impressed here so far and I am in day 3 of my trial and cant use the program. I have Win 7
Cant even close the program, have to press control alt delete to get it to close.

I can assure you it can work just fine in Windows 7 - that's what I use day in and day out.
Chances are your display driver is falling down when tasked with doing the many Photoshop accelerations. As Curt said, check for the latest driver.
As a test you can deconfigure Photoshop's use of the GPU via settings in the Edit - Preferences - Performance dialog. Make sure you close and restart Photoshop after making any such change. If doing so improves your user experience then you'll want to put some effort into determining whether you can get a better display driver version for your system. What graphics interface (GPU) do you have in your system?

Looks, from a quick search, like it isn't possible to get an Mbox2 to work with Windows8 at all. It will apparently work fine with Windows7 and XP but that's about it - no more drivers. And it's not an Audition issue - apparently it won't even work with PT.
Windows8 is not trouble-free. It's fine on tablets and stuff like that but on any sort of 'proper' computer it has all sorts of issues. For instance, being part of a network is a bit of a nightmare - if you can get it to work at all. And there's more - as we keep discovering; Windows7 is a much better bet.
