JDeveloper 11.1.2.4 - Debugger Freezing/breaking IDE

OS: Windows 7 64bit
CPU: i7
RAM: 8gb
JDev: JDeveloper 11.1.2.4
JDeveloper 11.1.2.4 in 32 bit or 64bit mode is freezing the whole IDE up randomly when debugging. The issue occurred with JDeveloper 11.1.2.2 as well. It does not occur with JDeveloper 11.1.1.4 The only way to fix is to stop the jdeveloper.exe process. Please can someone advise or submit to the jdeveloper jira? Thank you in advance :)

Hi Timo,
We're having similar issues with JDeveloper here. The debugger in JDevloper is the biggest fail ever!
I have win7-64, 8GB RAM, etc. I'm using 11.1.2.3.0 and have used earlier versions of JDeveloper too and the debugger always freezes.
We've tweaked our vm settings for JDev and the integrated Weblogic server to no avail. I'm waiting on another 8GB RAM to be delivered to see if that might fix this sorry situation.
Since I can only rant here and can't give you exact data, let me share some observations:
1.
The debugger will hang when I try and reach a null pointer exception occurring. I'll put a breakpoint on the line of code and the debugger will stop there. That's when JDeveloper becomes totally unresponsive. Nothing will will work - no close button, no gui buttons on jdev - nothing! The only way to get it responsive is to kill the weblogic java process that it spawns.
Examining to processes that are running with the default windows sysmon tool tells me that there is a network I/O process hanging. When I end that process, things are responsive but my debugger session has been killed.
2.
When I've fixed the error (using sysouts!!), I can happily debug to the the fixed line and examine data variables like a normal IDE would do it. It's a bit like the fire truck arriving after the house burned down.

My aspire 6920 crashes after booting correctly - screen zig zags and freezes - any ideas to help plse? This does not happen in safemode which I am working in now - I have seen a list of dowloadable drivers on the acer site but not at all sure if I should download any. Many thanks - relieved that it can be done but I am very unconfident that I can do this - is the display driver the display adapter in Vista? Not at all sure how to install new driver from Acer site - Could I use 'Drivers for free' download - I tried to set up an account with them after seeing their free download on CINET but not able to from 'safe mode' and laptop crashes when I try to do anything ( after about a minute ) in ordinary mode.  Any further advice welcome, thanks

  • Jdeveloper 10.1.2.1 debugger won't start  **** URGENT ****

I posted this in an older thread at the end:
    Re: jdev 10 (9.0.5.2) debugger won't start
I can't run the debugger using the runner: jvm option of ojvm, hotspot, or client, and can't debug a simple standalone java class w/o an error window within the same project:
When I try to debug a standalone class (HelloWorld.java)
    Status line showed connection problem.
    got errors:
(can't gab the command line since JDEveloper is locked up - I have an hourglass and the only thing I can do is minimize, maximize, or close it)
    c:\jdev10121\jdk\bin\]javaw.exe -ojvm -XXdebug,quiet,port2651 -classpath C:\Projects\jdev10121\MSI\MSI\

Debugger connection to debugee process has been lost.
    Debugger disconnected from local process.
    Process exited.
Debugger unable to connect to local processIf I try to debug using client or hotspot, the application will start, but it does not recognize any of the breakpoints at all, so the debugger never kicks in. It does on a windows xp workstation running the same version of jdeveloper. Also, I can't recompile classes and replace on the fly.
I am able to run the web application regular (w/o debug) using ojvm.
My J2EE settings are 1.4.2_06. This is what resides in c:\jdev10121\jdk\bin. That same path is in my system path. The java_home env var is set to: c:\jdev10121\jdk.
I run the JDEV.exe rather than JDEVw.exe and nothing appears in the console window.
I can't recall anything about the machine that caused this to stop working as it was working less than 1 week ago. The machine is a Windows 2000 Dell workstation. I thought the problem might be caused by adding the Oracle XML Parser to the project, but I removed that library and commented out the code.
The only way the debugger works is to do REMOTE DEBUGGING (I'm connecting to my embedded oc4j via localhost though):
    1. Start the application using hotspot in debug mode. Note the port that is sent to oc4j.
    2. Create another project for remote debugging, and set the tools->project properties->remote debugging on for that project. right click and select remote debug, and type in the port from the other window. Once connected, I can set breakpoints and examine code, etc.
This is really troubling as putting system.debug messages for debugging is like going back to the early days of cobol on the vax for me -- no wait, the debugger under motif in 1994 worked... well, maybe before cobol then....
Anyway, please let me know if there's a solution to this.
    Thanks,
    Eric

I tried reinstalling JDeveloper but the debug function still does not work.
I just found this to be funny:
No search results for "debugger AND ojvm AND "won't start"". You should try a
    less restrictive search.
Did you mean: debugger AND ovum AND "won't start"  Again, thanks for reading this? (Am I talking to myself?)

  • Informative: Debugger hangs, breaks server (XDebug, PDT 3.5?)

THIS TOPIC IS SUPERCEDED BY https://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/m/1700736
I had [in retrospect, small] debugging issues with Luna and decided to upgrade to Mars. I upgraded both Eclipse from 3.4 and PDT to 3.5. Just after, the debugger had severe breakage. It would go away, and apparently only come back after restarting Windows.
I then tried upgrading the WAMP stack (Apache 2.4.4 to 2.4.9, PHP 5.4.12 to 5.5.12, XDebug 2.2.3 to 2.2.5), and this seemed to solve the problem. But after a few days, it seems it just came back.
This was very frustrating, since online searches are difficult, but at least, after letting enough time, the affected project is again usable, and I got an error message when trying to debug again. It is surely not specific, but here it is:
Quote:The debug port 9000 is in use. Please select a different port for the debugger.
The UI's message is a bit different, this is actually from an exception which is generated when that error shows.
Since I have never seen that behavior with 3.4, a PDT 3.5 bug seems likely, but since it seems this doesn't affect that many people, I am just posting for information and will attempt to caracterize the issue better before going further.

This might be a conflict with one of your windows application (for example windows server sometime take it). Can you change debugger port?
This has to be done on both xdebug and eclipse, for example use port 1009:
    1. Add xdebug.remote_port=1009 to php.ini and restart wamp
    2. Set this port under Eclipse -> Preferences -> PHP -> Debug -> Debuggers -> XDebug
You might be also blocked by windows firewall.

  • HT1926 I've successfully updated itunes and quicktime on windows XP but itunes won't run properly, the video tutorial loses audio after about 1-2 minutes and when I plug in my iphone 4s to sync the whole thing freezes, any ideas?

    Hi everyone,
was prompted to upgrade itunes on my PC and also upgrade the software on my iphone 4s.Went through as usual but took 3 goes to get a successful upgrade of itunes on the PC. Then was prompted to update quick time, this was done successfully.
Thought I'd look at the tutorial video for itunes - the sound went off 11/2 minutes into it, then I couldn't stop it. I had a quick look around itunes and decided to sync my phone. The program recognised the phone then everything froze. Windows message for a non responding program came up and had to pull out of the program. So far after several hours I have not been able to get beyond stage 2 of 7 of syncing the phone; it keeps freezing up at different stages.
Any ideas?? I haven't had this kind of trouble before with any other version of itunes.
    Cheers

Still nothing? Wow... maybe the quality of this discussion board really has gone down. Dissappointed.

  • I have just bought a mac minni a week ago and noticed that it would freeze.  Apple replaced it with a new mac minni.  This minni is also freezing.  Ideas?

I bought a mac minni about 2 weeks ago.  Had problems with the minni freezing randomly.  Had Apple troubleshoot the problem and was determined that the problem was a hardware problem.  Apple gave me a new minni.  Now I am experienceing the same problem with this minni.  I am not using an Apple mouse/keyboard and was wondering if that could be the problem.  Also I do have two external hard drives that I used.  There are no other programs that I have loaded on the minni.  What are the odds that this is another hardware problem?  Is anyone else experiencing this problem?  Could it be the keyboard/mouse?  I would not think the external hard drives should cause any problem.

If I were you I'd take it back. On at least one occassion I had an Apple employee tell me there had been a "bad batch" - it was a battery, not a computer - and a history of previous identical failures. It happens.
Suggest you take the keyboard and the mouse with you when you return the Mini - no doubt the Apple employee will test them too.

  • Bought snow leopard 10.6.3.( mac intel i3) having problems installing product. after 15mins computer freezes any ideas?, bought snow leopard 10.6.3.( mac intel i3) having problems installing product. after 15mins computer freezes any ideas?

Hi recently bought snow leopard 10.6.3. Having problems installing. My i Mac has intel i3 and system 10.6.8 . After about 15mins the computer restarts but freezes with apple logo. Any ideas? thanks alan

Yes, 10.6.8 update was specifically to ease the Lion installation (apart from some security updates).
Juat log onto the App Store (Icon would be in the Dock by default) and find the download. If you're not already registered with App Store, you'll need credit card info to hand, and your Apple ID (the one you use to log in here or the iTunes Store if you use it).
You would only need the retail SL disc if you were running 10.5.8 (Leopard) or earlier.

  • IBook freezes - any ideas?

    Hello,
I have some trouble with my iBook (G4, 14``inch, 1.33Ghz). I bought it in November 2004 and got additional memory (512MB) installed at the shop. It run fine until August 2004, when the ethernet port was no longer detected. As a case of guarantee the logic board was changed and everything seemed okay, but shortly after that the iBook started to freeze or crash now and then. After two total system crashes at the end of last year I took a closer look to the problem and found, that in the system profiler most times the built-in memory (256MB) was referred as "empty". Resetting of PRAM und PMU didn't change anything. Then I extracted the additional memory and surprisingly the iBook run fine again. I tried a new memory (again 512MB), but the iBook again started to freeze after a few minutes. My guess was that the memory slot was defect. A problem, which I can clearly live with. So I run the iBook for two days (only built-in memory) and everything was okay, but yesterday I made an intensive session (several installations and then some applications at the same time over 3-4h) and after a while the iBook slowed down and eventually froze. I wasn't able to restart until today (after about 6h, but of course I didn't try the whole night). Has anyboby an idea, what's could be wrong? Is it possible, that my iBook has a heating-problem? That's another possibility that occured to me yesterday.
    aryht
    iBook G4 14'' 1.33GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Ronda, we're talking past each other!  I wasn't trying to use a cloned drive (MBP or iBook) in any of this!
What I had learned from experience (and from advice here and on the net) was that if you wanted to use an external drive with both an iBook and a MacBook Pro, you needed to format the drive as an Apple Partition Map.  And that is true.
Clearly wrongly, I assumed that if I did a fresh install of Tiger using an Apple Partittion Map, it could boot an iBook.  Clearly, an Intel-Mac installs something in that scenario that makes the drive only bootable from an Intel-Mac.  I had mistakenly thought it was the partition scheme the determined which laptop it could be booted from and used with!
For my future reference--and for any one else who might be in this situation--here's the solution.
    1.  Format the external hard from the iBook.
    2.  Then connect it to your MBP or other more recent device, and drag your home folder and needed programs over to the drive.
    3.  Now, you can boot the external drive using your iBook.
    4.  Any changes to documents, mail (e.g., Eudora), etc. will register on that external drive.
I wish I had thought of that, or been advised to do that.  It would have made short work of reconstructing the MBP's home folder contents on its return--a simple drag and drop operation!

  • ITunes 7.7.1 freezes repeatedly -- ideas?

First happened when I was updating my first-generation iPhone. Then it would happen even if I launched iTunes without the iPhone connected. iTunes will work fine for a few minutes, then freeze up completely. At this point, it seems to happen every time. Force-quitting is the only option.
One symptom is a massively ballooning console log -- the last time I fired up iTunes (iPhone disconnected), the log reached 6+ GB in just a few minutes!
Any suggestions? When other apps have frozen up consistently in the past, I've trashed the preference file. But which one for iTunes, and what will I lose?

    Hi,
i have found an answer for the problem.
Delet all data on my ipod an make a new
    syncronisation.
    After that everyting works fine.
I tried this but it still freezes even after "restoring" the ipod. Could it be that it wont sync with 17Gig of library on my computer (3 years old)?

  • My iPhone 5 camera keeps freezing if and when I take a photo I get either a pink screen or pink lines or lens freezes any ideas please

Has anyone else had an issue with their iPhone 5. Camera?
The problem is intermittent and presents as either a total freeze or partial or full pink screen
Is this a known fault and should I take the phone to an apple store for a replacement as it is only 4 months old

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that didn't help, Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • My Mac is freezing-any ideas?

From time to time, my Mac will freeze without warning, I can still move the mouse and use Expose with the keyboard but none of the applications respond. This usually resolves itself after a minute or so but it's very annoying especially when it forces me to restart. I'm no expert, so I ran the disk utility from the installer cd, and did the disk repair. I got these messages:
    -Incorrect number of thread counts
    -Volume Bitmap needs minor repair
    -Invalid volume free block count
-The volume Macintosh HD could not be repaired.
Should I try using DiskWarrior (i don't have it) or just reinstalling Tiger?
    Thanks !

    Thanks !
Just one more question, if I decide to reformat, can I just copy my applications (stuff like Word that has limited installs from the CD) to my Ipod and copy it back afterwards? And to reformat, should I just install and erase?
    Thanks!

  • IMac randomly freezing - any ideas?

My computer started freezing out of the blue a couple days ago. Yesterday it happened 4-5 times in the morning and then didn't happen again until just now it froze once. I checked the system log and see this error ::
    Sep 15 13:36:45 localhost kernel[0]: AppleSMU -- shutdown cause = 3
Any idea what that means?? I tried unplugging all my stuff, removing third-party ram....but I have no idea what that error means.
    Thanks.

I just started getting lots of kernel panics in the last week. Took it to the Apple Store and they are replacing the logic board due to blown capacitors. I've had it for 2 years and it just went nutty on me. Take the back off your computer and look at the capacitors. If they are bulging or leaking, then take your iMac to have it repaired. There is a repair extension program for Rev A G5 iMacs....
