JDeveloper encoding setting

Hi, I have a problem with this JDev setting. When I set this JDev property to ISO-8859-1, trying to generate a Web Service Stub, the XML generated by this stub (the SOAP request generated on execution time) has UTF-8 as encoding parameter (it appears in the first XML line of the SOAP message).
Is there a way to generate the XML with ISO-8859-1? (maybe the IDE sets as the IDE property is setted, to files created statically, but not dinamically like SOAP request using Oracle libraries).

Viewing Chinese Characters / Encoding setting in SQL Developer

Hi all,
I am new to SQL Developer 1.1. I have just downloaded the tool yesterday.
I have a table where there "should" be chinese characters in a NVARCHAR2 column. But I see only inverted question marks when displaying that data in SQL Developer.
I know from a ressource on the web, that SQL Developer is able to display chinese characters ( see http://awads.net/wp/2006/07/06/sql-developer-and-utf8/ ).
The NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET is set to AL16UTF16; the NLS_CHARACTER_SET is set to WE8ISO8859P1.
The encoding under Tools->Preferences->Environment is set to "Cp1252".
What is actually the influence of this Encoding setting and do I have to make changes to that to view the data?
In addition I have to admit, that we actually do not really know if the data entered the DB correctly, that is as chinese characters. Maybe there have occured conversion errors that were made in a application that writes the data into the database. Actually I want to verify that. So, if I have the right settings configured which should be fine to see chinese characters and then I see only inverted question marks I can conclude that the data actually entered the database corrupted and the error is not an display issue with SQL Developer but rather an error in the application that writes the data to the database.

Am able to view chinese characters in VARCHAR2, FUNCTIONS & PROCEDURES.
My Settings are :
1. Developer encoding is X-ORACLE-AL32UTF8.
2. Control Panel :
   Regional& Language Options:
            Standard & Format = English (US)
            Location                 = US
            Under Advanced = China (PRC)
        System :
            Environmental Varaibles
              Variable Name = NLS_LANG
              Variable Value = SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.ZHS16GBK 3. Windows Registry for oracle's NLS_LANG all using
SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.ZHS16GBK.
4. Oracle database when creating using SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.ZHS16GBK
and AL32UTF8.

I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!

Which encoder setting do i use to NOT encode any imported tracks?

I'd like to re-import my entire library, but i am worried that the encoder setting in preferences will re-encode everything to one file type, such as mp3 or aiff. How do i tell itunes to leave all of my file types alone?

The encoder settings only apply to audio CDs which you import - the assumption is that you don't want to take up disk space with the large files of a CD, but you can set it to AIFF (it looks as if audio CDs contain AIFF files when you open them but this is an illusion: the format is specific to CDs* so they still have to be converted if you want uncompressed AIFFs).
Any prexisting files which you drop into iTunes remain in the format they were in in the first place.
If you are re-importing your audio CDs I should do so as AIFF so that they are uncompressed: you can then change the import settings to MP3 or AAc or whatever, and then select the files and choose 'Create MP3 (or AAC) version' to make a copy in your desired format., and subsequently delete the originals.
(*Solomon-Reed cross-interleave if you really want to know - the data is jumbled up and has strong error correction so that it can survive scratches and other minor surface damage: the same is not true of data CDs containing for example MP3 files, where one scratch can bork the entire file.)

Best Compressor encoding setting for DVD

I have an 80 min FCP project. It is a stage show where part of the frame is dark and the stage is light with gels and the Dancers. What is the Best encoding setting for a standard size DVD
I tried 90 minute 2-past best DVD but there was severe blocking/chopping.

I don’t understand that. (Me not so smart.) If there is a standardized Unicode value associated with glyph X, then how is it that none of the Unicode character sets in Firefox abide? Add a font? As I understand it, a font is just a re-representation of known characters. It seems like I’m hearing that not only does there have to be a character set decode of the data I’m viewing, but also a font that takes that Unicode value and translates it to something visual. That doesn’t wash. Between databases data is converted to and fro, irrespective of OS/App fonts installed. Sybase <-> Oracle doesn’t need a font installed. Viewing from SQL I don’t need a font installed.

Trying to put two video onto 1 disc, change encoder setting problems

Video tape two differ events, trying to put them on same disc. First project in imovie on my MacBook Pro. was short (1min. 27sec.) the
Second project was long 184.31 (med) Dimensions 640x360 size 2.3 GB (This is what it display for the long movie) These video wasn't done in HD.
When trying to put them on same disc (standard Disc 4.7 GB) I get this message: Your project exceeds the max. content duration. To burn your DVD, change the encoder setting in the Project Infro window. I try to put the long one by it self onto a disc still get the same message. Heip please

Update: I just made sure that the AP's go through the main router (AEBS) and do not talk to each other directly (which is what they were trying to). I managed to restrict access to them so that only that AEBS (and the other computers through the AEBS, not directly) talks to them. After this everything was smooth sailing.

Does the DVD mpg2 encode setting automatically re-encode mpg2 files?

I am running DVD Studio Pro 3. I have also encoded my video to mpg2 (using quicktime) before import. Will DVD Studio Pro 3 re-encode the video if I set the encode preferences lower than the original mpg2 files? I want to test lower bitrates. If I can just change the encode setting in DVD Studio Pro and set it to encode upon build, it would be much easier than individually recompressing all of the imported files. This would be a great timesaver to test lower bitrates.

No -it doesn't work that way, I'm afraid. It only encodes what needs to be encoded and if you have already got your assets as MPEG2 it won't unencode them and re-encode at a lower rate.
You'll need to encode them yourself - you might like to take a single short sequence (ten seconds) and encode that at different rates in order to create your tests.

JDeveloper problem setting up a database connection

I am having some problem setting up a connection to my database. Before I say any more let me explain what I need. I need 2 database connections 1 to a 10g R3 database and one to an 8.0.5.
I do realize that JDeveloper will only connect back to 8.1.7 because of the JDBC version that is installed with it.
What I really need to know is "Is it possible to define and use 2 different versions of JDBC" I really don't want to move back to the version that works with both because I am afraid of what performance/benefits I will lose from the latest and greatest.
The latest version that I can determine will work with 8.0.5 is the last version for 9i.
Any Ideas would be helpful.
The reason for this situation is that I have a production database that I will have to keep up with until the full version of the system is complete so that is why I even care about 8.0.5.

I have a wireless network set at home with two computers connected to it:
My workstation called Home-ws and my laptop called Acer. I can access the d:\ drive of my workstation from my laptop without any problem.
On my workstation I installed the Oracle 10g product and on my laptop I installed Oracle SQL Developer. On SQL developer I am trying to create a connection to the Oracle server:
My settings are as below:
Connection name: orcl_system
User name: system
Password: ******
Host name: Home-ws
Port: 1521
SID: orcl
When I push test I am getting the following error message:
Status: Failure –Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
Are there any special settings that should be made set up a wireless connection to my database?
Then I did the following things below:
1. I downloaded from oracle.com the instantclient-basic-win32-10.2.0.2-20060508.zip file and unzipped it in a folder called instantclient_10_2. There were a number of DLL and two jar files plus sqlplus.exe
2. I started sqlplus from that server
3. sqlplus failed with a similar error as sql developer.
4. I checked for tnsping. There is no tnsping such and exe on my laptop. I looks like I have to install the DLLs I downloaded them but there are no instructions about how to install them. Should I just copy them in system32 folder?
5. I looked for firewalls on my Home-ws workstation (where my oracle server is installed) and on my Acer laptop. The firewalls were activated. I added on exception called oracle for port 1521 on both computers and tried to connect again. I tried with both TCP and UDP options and it did not work in both cases.
I am out of ideas. Any help would be much appreciated.

UTF8 characters not correctly displayed whilst having encoding set to UTF8

Although the Encoding in Tools > Preferences > Environment is set to UTF8, SQL Developer is not able to display the UTF characters correctly.
I know for sure that I have tested this before using an older version of SQL Developer and then then this worked OK.
Can somebody tell me if I need to change anything else within SQL Developer to make sure the UTF8 characters like (Ὦ φῶς τελευταν σε προσλέψαιμ) are displayed correctly?
Our database (both SQL Server and Oracle) are both completely Unicode aware.
I'm using version 1.1.2.25 build MAIN-25.79.

Well we are seeing this in the most used tab display on a table. So for instance our database is called PV50. Then from the connections window I double click on PV50 > Tables > <table_name> (in my example QUEUE_MESSAGE).
Then the table is opened. Then I goto the 'DATA' tab of this table and look at the column in which the UTF8 characters are stored. In there I see the wrong display at the moment. I hope this helps to sort out the problem.

Jdeveloper Library setting

I have a general Jdeveloper setting question.
I have a comm-library folder. But I have to manually add to each and every project. Is there a way I can have it set up, that when I create a new project, automatically it picks up the comm-librar folder. If yes, then where is that settings.

I wish to change bitrate encoding from VBR1 to VBR2. I'm sure it's possible but I can't find where to do that. Can you direct me there?

Why Extended Encoding Sets are not available?

I m using JDK1.4. Why I got the UnsupportedCharsetException from this line:
CharsetDecoder cd = Charset.forName("Big5").newDecoder();
When I print out the available charsets in the system, I realised that "Big5" and all extended sets are not included (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/guide/intl/encoding.doc.html). Anybody can explain and help me to get these extended sets?

Running mac OS 10.5.8, Using Mail 3.5, Text encoding set to Automatic. messages arrive, but the message is 200 lines of alphanumerics. Top says Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64.

What encode setting are used when sending to Encore from Premiere?

Hi All,
I have a an HDV 1440x1080 30p video and sequence in Premiere CS4. If I export it to AME, i can set the output format and presets to whatever i want. In my case, I set AME to Format: "MPEG2-DVD" and Preset: "NTSC Progressive Widescreen High Quality" and leave the other settings alone.
However, when I send the sequence via Dynamic Link from Premiere CS4 to Encoder and press on the build button, what default settings is Encore CS4 using to create the DVD?
I am assuming that i can bring up "Export Settings" in Encore prior to building to alter the default export settings and in my case i would use the Encore Export Settings:
Format: MPEG2-DVD
Preset: Progressive High Quality 7Mb VBR 2 Pass
and leave the other Encore export settings alone.
BTW, i think its interesting that the default export settings for MPEG2-DVD, Progressive (Standard and Widescreen) High Quality in AME from both Premiere and Encore have different basic video, bitrate and GOP settings.

The 'Automatic' transcoding setting is dynamic - it changes whenever you add or subtract from the project. One of the main benefits of using it is that Encore will automatically calculate the bit budget for your disc.
But if it's somehow not working out, you need to reconsider using it.
Normally, I do my own bit budget (there are several online bit budgeting apps out there). But then, I'm a 'manual' kinda guy...
