JDK-8029253 Doesn't seem to be fixed
Apologies if this post is in the wrong forum.
http://bugs.java.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=8029253
I've been following this bug for quite some time, seeing that it's been fixed and now back-ported to 8 I thought it would solve the performance issues on my new 5k iMac, but unfortunately it hasn't.
I'm using NetBeans for development, I installed 8u40 (as per the bug report) but performance is still very poor. I'm not an expert so there's the possibility I've still not set everything up correctly. Here's the java versions:
iMac:~ mattpurland$ javac -version
javac 1.8.0_40-ea
iMac:~ mattpurland$ java -version
java version "1.8.0_40-ea"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_40-ea-b17)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.40-b21, mixed mode)
NetBeans:
Product Version: NetBeans IDE 8.0.2 (Build 201411181905)
Java: 1.8.0_40-ea; Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 25.40-b21
Runtime: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 1.8.0_40-ea-b17
System: Mac OS X version 10.10.1 running on x86_64; UTF-8; en_US (nb)
Any help would be appreciated, I'm hoping it's just a configuration issue...
Cheers,
Matt
Well, seems to me that if the computer is reading other CDs, the lens should not be a problem? If you really think it would help though, I suppose I'll try it.
Since I posted I've tried leveling the computer because I thought that might be an issue, but I think I can rule that out.
Could it be that I need to download some sort of driver update? I don't know when I purchased those Memorex CD-Rs that I'd been using and that worked, but the ones I just bought look a little different, so maybe they are also more advanced in some way?
Maybe 3 or 4 discs that I put in (out of maybe 50) actually did show up on the desktop and when I tried to burn them, started burning as normal. But then about 20 seconds into it, it said something about it not being able to burn.
I have also run Disk First Aid, which told me that there is an invalid PEOF. Could this be creating the problem?
Thanks to anyone who can shed some light...

Some websites like the one of my college uses JavaScripts and they seem to load correctly to a certain point but then not really. For example in one it would say select an option from the left menu. And I do it hut nothing happens. But when I go to the same website in another browser on my phone. The JavaScript works completely and allows me to see whatever I was clickig on that menu. I have seen that there are other websites being affected too. I tried clearing my cookies and data. even restarted my phone. And doesn't seem to work. I don't know how change the configuration any more to make it work like normal. At first I thought it was my school's website but it never got fixed. And now I realized is my safari browser! I wanna keep using it since I am really familiar with It. If someone knows how to fix this please let me know!
ThanksYou can reset the SMC and see if that helps. If it's a unibody or Retina, follow the method for "a battery you should not remove yourself."

My mac seems to be frozen on an internet page. I can't force quit. I can't control+options+command+esc. I can't access my activity monitor. I CAN see my mouse moving but when I click on anything, it doesn't seem to engage or recognize it. Fix?
Thank you. There is a bigger issue. It is not the web page that is the problem. It is that I can see my mouse moving and can move it along the bottom toolbar and the options will highlight but I can't click on anything. I can see the apple icon to get to force quit but cant click on it.
I used your suggestion and force quit came up but I can't select the option to force quit... not even with my arrows and enter/return key. Any other thoughts?
Thank you. -

my wireless key board doesn't seem to communication with my computer even though bluetooth shows it is connected. I have changed the batteries on the keyboard and when turn on the key board the green lights comes on shortly and disappears. Can any one help?
Hey Annar99,
I found a few articles that might help with the issue you're encountering. These first two are if the Bluetooth keyboard you're using is the one that came with your iMac. The first is a general "how to" for setting up your Apple Wireless keyboard, while the second one is for troubleshooting if the advice in the first article isn't working:
Bluetooth: How to set up your Apple Wireless Keyboard
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1809
Troubleshooting wireless mouse and keyboard issues
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3048
If, on the other hand, you're using a third party keyboard, then I would take a look at the following article's troubleshooting section:
Bluetooth Quick Assist

Hope that helps,

Sold BT Infinity 2 but it doesn't seem to exist!
Hi,
Just wanted to see if anyone else has had a simliar problem to me and if so how you are going about dealing with it. So back in August I moved into a new house. I rang BT and said that I would like a phone line and also enquired as to what Broadband they could provide.
So the woman in the sales centre informed me that I could have BT Infinity 2 with speeds of up to 76mbs! Brilliant. So I ordered this amazingly fast Broadband and also my phone line. I'm now in November nearly 3 months on from ordering this superfast broadband and I still don't have any broadband.
I have had 4 or 5 engineers come out now. Basically the problem is that the exchange hasn't been set up for BT Infinity 2.
The latest update I had was can you wait for 3 weeks and we will do a review. When they did a 'Review' on Tuesday the outcome was can you wait another week and we will give you another update.
There must be some sort of act that they are in breach of selling a service that isn't actually available? They don't seem to give me a decent answer ever. They seem to blame BT Openreach for all the problems.
Just wondered if anyone has had the same problem and what you did?
Thanks
GarethHi sorry for not replying to anyone. Not having the internet at home is obviously an issue. The battle with the BT Muppets is still ongoing and we still don't seem to be any closer.
Says that it is all available. Think I'm up to just about 3 months now since ordering it. I've been told 3 dates in the last 2 weeks when the problem is supposed to have been resolved only to be let down every single time. I'm not due an update until December now though!
Just doesn't seem to be anyone at BT that knows what they are doing or able to give you a straight answer on exactly what is going on.
Do BT fine BT Openreach for delays? If so I would be interested to know how much they get!
My issue has been moved onto a specific person now because I complained. But quite honestly that has made no difference whatsoever. Just like dealing with the normal bods on the normal line!
I would never go with BT again even if it is just because of the poor customer service and lack of updates. Everytime they say they are going to ring me they don't and then I have to end up chasing them all the time.
The only reason I don't want to cancel it now is because I'm 3 months down the line and if I cancel and go with someone else I get to join the back of the queue!

My iPod doesn't seem like enjoy working, could someone help me out?
This is my second iPod (I had to send the first one back to get it replaced) and it's getting ridiculous. About three months ago it stopped working again (the new one) and I got a box to send it back, but I tried installing new software and updating it and all, which fixed it, or so I thought. Now it's not working again. I can't even get it connected to my computer without the computer freezing completely. iTunes refuses to load when the iPod is connected, and "My Computer" (I have a win laptop) quits responding when I connect it too. If I could get it connected I would reset it completely, which I don't midn doing, but it doesn't seem to be able to do that. Has anyone else had this problem? I'd really appreciate help with this problem because Apple says I can't send it back... even though it's my second one. Any help would be appreciated greatly. Thanks in advance.

Ever since my upgrade to lion 10.7.3, and iCloud, my macbook is running extremely slow. What can I do? It doesn't seem like my contacts are pushing through to the computer from iPhone.
Then your basic issues are: too little RAM, incompatible software, dysfunctional installation.
Add more RAM or kill as many programs that you use until the computer is running normally.
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps. Upgrade any old software.
Reinstall OS X:
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Pdfmark code in MS Word 2008 doc doesn't seem to work properly to create Named Destination
Hi all,
I've been having trouble with creating Preview-compatible Named Destinations in Acrobat 9.x (see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/770470?tstart=0). Distiller, on the other hand, appears to create compatible Destinations, so as a last-ditch effort, I tried to go back to my original source file (Microsoft Word 2008 document) to use Distiller's pdfmark functionality, to see if maybe I could finally get a PDF with Preview-compatible Destinations.
Following instructions found elsewhere on this forum, I went into Word and inserted the following field into a test location in my document:
PRINT "[ /Dest /testdest /View [ /XYZ null null null ] /DEST pdfmark"
This field code is supposed to then cause a pdfmark to be inserted into the resulting PostScript and/or PDF files. Distiller is supposed to understand this and turn it into a Named Destination called "testdest." However, it doesn't seem to work - I don't see the pdfmark code in the PS file, and the PDF file doesn't have any Named Destinations in it.
I'm using Acrobat 9.x on Mac OS X 10.6.5, so I tried this two different ways:
1) Using the "Print to Adobe PDF" workflow (which replaced the "Adobe PDF Printer" from previous OS/Acrobat versions) - this automatically generates a PDF via (presumably) an API call to Distiller... and
2) Using the "Print to Postscript" workflow to generate a PS file, which I then ran through Adobe Distiller.
In neither case did I end up with a named destination in the PDF file, as I was supposed to. In case #2, even the Postscript file didn't have a pdfmark embedded in it. Thus, I'm assuming that perhaps this is particular issue may be a problem with MS Word 2008 rather than with Acrobat... but I'm hoping someone might have a clue as to how to fix it.
I welcome ideas on how to get Word 2008 to properly output pdfmark code, so that Distiller will pick it up and properly embed a Named Destination into the PDF...
Thanks in advance.
(If anyone has ideas about the Preview-compatible problem, linked above, that would also be great!)You're suggesting that it was never fixed from Word 2004 to 2008? Possibly. I wonder if it's fixed in Word 2011? Anyone know? But is it really a Word problem, rather than a Distiller issue?
I appreciate your offer, though I do have access to Word on Windows (2003, I think), so I could try Distilling there... I only worry about formatting, since there are minor differences (e.g. font kerning, etc.) between Mac and Windows that are subtle, but sufficient to create formatting issues for very long documents (e.g. pushing figures onto the wrong pages, etc.). That would be a rather big problem.
The question remains whether this is an issue with Word or Distiller, though... and whether it's fixed in Distiller X and/or Word 2011.
Adobe, care to comment?
I'd really love to find a proper Mac solution, if one exists... it would be rather a slap to Mac users if a solution doesn't exist. -
Captivate Subscription - Doesn't seem to be able to verify my paid subscription
This one might be beyond the technical expertise of the community at large, but I will give it a shot.
My 5.5 and 6 subscriptions worked fine in the past, but 7 just doesn't seem to be able to see that I have a paid subscription. Here is what has transpired so far ...
I was a beta tester with Captivate 7 and had the normal trial count down in that beta.
Captivate officially launched before the beta trial expired.
I uninstalled the beta and downloaded and installed the official Captivate 7 version. I kept my order ordered active for my month by month Cativate 6.
When I started using the new full version of 7, it opened each time in trial version mode with the countdown picking up from where I left off in the beta version. When I clicked I the option to register it took me to a seriel number page. The Captivate team and Adobe tech support had me download and install Captivate 7 multiple times without a change. During the week the team was helping with the serial number loop, on my own I had the idea that maybe if I just make a new order of a monthly subscription that might kick it in. It didn't work. THe team broke me out of the serial number loop by having me rename a file so it could be rebuilt.
With the serial number loop gone, I went to cancel my Captivate 6 and 7 month to month orders and kept the year commitment one.
Now I get a message that says "Subsription Expired. Unable to connect to the internet. Plaes check your connection settings and chose Try Again." Then a bit lower in the same message box it says "Your subscription for Adobe Captivate 7.0 has expired. Go to the Subscription Manager to renew your subscription ..." There is a count down and I am at about day 16 or so now. It will stop working at 0 I assume.
My internet has been up and down for the last 6 weeks due to my ISP overselling their bandwidth which I mention in case that may be playing a part in the problem. I have contacted Adobe support and verified with them that my account is indeed paid and active. Then they transferred me to tech support and they had me reinstall the new Creative Cloud interface that runs in the system tray. That seemed to work, so I signed out of tech support. Next morining the message popped up again, so I guess that fix wasn't a fix after all. It was just the message took too long to pop up to accurately confirm the fix.
At the Drag and Drop Extravaganza seminar, someone said they had some issues because they had two Adobe IDs and their fix was to get the subscription all to one. As far as I can tell I have only one Adobe ID, but I am not entirely sure how to be 100% certain. She said she didn't know she had two IDs before the problem. If anyone knows how I can be sure. let me know.
OK, so you are all caught up. Any ideas what I should try next? Anyone else have this issue and get a fix for it?try to have restore default on the ipod thouch of your friend.
check what is the exact ios 5 he has.

SSD Cache in HP ENVY Phoenix 800-445qe doesn't seem to be installed right
I have a newly purchased HP ENVY Phoenix 800-445qe which includes what's supposed to be a 16gb ssd cache. Running WIndows 7 Pro 64.
The ssd drive was factory installed so it shows in Windows as with the name DATADRIVE1 (doesn't sound like it was intended as a cache, does it?) and it shows as drive E:. My understanding is that if it were really installed as a cache, it wouldn't be showing as a drive in Windows Explorer.
The HDD was set as ACHI in BIOS, not RAID. The Intel RST screen in firmware (accessable through Ctrl-I) shows both drives as non-RAID Disks. The HP support assistant shows the Intel RST x 64 driver v 13.2.0.1016 installed.
Elsewhere on the HP site is a support article with the title: A Seondary 16 GB Drive Shows up in Windows 8 File Explorer, which is the problem I'm having except, I have Win 7, not 8; it says to download a softpaq with release notes that say it only applies to HP ENVY HP-8 systems and requires Win 8; it's fix is to install Condusiv ExpressCache, which I'm under the impression is an alternative to Intel's RST, not something that works with it. So that doesn't seem to be the fix I'm looking for. HP Tech Support's helpful suggestion was to find a local computer dealer an pay them to fix it. (Yeah, right.)
Does anybody here know how to get this thing working? There ain't no such thing in the Control Panel. *sigh*
Let me jump off in a very different direction, because as this point I've probably wasted more time on this than the cache can ever save me over the life of the system....
I have a 128GB SSD on order that I was going to install as my data drive, and then keep it backed up on a partition on the HDD. That's almost twice as large as my OS+Programs partition on my current XP machine. I'm thinking maybe I should bail on the whole cache thing, install the 128GB drive as my OS+Programs drive, and set up the 16 GBs as a data drive (since it seems to be set up that way already anyway. That's a little small, but I can make it work if I move older data files to the HDD as a kind of near line storage.
Unless you know of a reason I can't do that--like the mSATA SSD won't work as a drive--the question then becomes, how do I set up the 128GB SSD as the OS drive? I see two possibilities:
The first would be to use the HP restore image function to initialize the SSD, so it has the EFI partition with the Boot information, and then use Norton Ghost to restore the Ghost image I've created from my now customized Drive C (removing bloatware etc) to the new SSD.
The second--which could be a lot easier-- would be to make a ghost image of the entire drive of the current HDD and then use Ghost to restore the image to the 128GB SSD.
Do you know if either or both of these approaches will work? -
Have Ipod Touch 2nd Gen. 64 gig. I noticed that my music will not play alphabetically anymore. Don't know exactly when this occured. I checked all my settings so doesn't seem to be that.Apple no longer is upgrading this unit..I use windows XP but don't believe this is an issue since i have read posts saying this is not the problem..right now am converting my higher bit rate music to see if that changes anything. I also turned off my unit and the next thing am going to do is a restore if this doesn't work. Anyone find a fix for this yet? I also see that this is not a unique problem to Gen 2 units and is occuring on newer units as well..thank you all for any advise...
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

Hi everyone,I'm having a problem with my iPhone 5 it's wifi doesn't seem to work.it started yesterday afternoon.anyone know what happened?? I'm using 6.0.2
First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that doesn't correct the problem Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support. -

Hi,
I have two technical questions with Kodo.
1. SQL Batch doesn't seem to work. I have tried batch size of -1, 0, 1,25.
But the performance from batch creating objects is not affected by batch
size.
kodo.jdbc.DBDictionary: BatchLimit=25You may be running into a bug in the Oracle 9.2 driver. That driverdoesn't
reliably give update counts when using batching and prepared statement
caching. By default, Kodo will turn off batching. You can manuallyenable
batching by setting the BatchLimit on your DBDictionary, as you've done.If
you do this, though, you may want to turn off prepared statement cachingby
setting MaxCachedStatements to 0 (see
http://www.solarmetric.com/Software/Documentation/3.1.0RC1/docs/ref_guide_dbsetup.html#ref_guide_dbsetup_builtin).

2. How to use custom fetch groups to eagerly fetch related persistable
objects? Example only showed attributes, not relationships. You can find information on setting up eager fetching of relations at
http://www.solarmetric.com/Software/Documentation/3.0.3/docs/ref_guide_
perfpack_eager.html
Basically, you'll need to add the relations to your fetch group, and
set the eager fetching mode.
