Jdk1.1.8

PLEASE HELP
I have installed jdk1.1.8 on my notebook which runs on WindowsME.
I seem to be having java errors popping up here and there. Not only that, but for some reason, My Documents folder now has a twin located inside the jdk1.1.8 folder. I went to import web pages fom my website and they were put in the jdk1.1.8/My Documents folder. But everything that goes in that folder also goes in the regular My Documents folder. I don't understand this and really need some info.
Why the duplicate My Documents folder?

This is not exactly a Java related issue, but a file system related issue. FAT32 (used in Windows ME) can do strange things like having two pointers to the same folder. This happens mostly after an error, improper shutdown, drag/dropping folders or creating shortcuts in windows explorer, ...
I propose that you run a scandisk on your harddrive, and if this doesn't help, post this message to a windows related newsgroup where you will get better support for your question.
Defragmenting your drive (with defrag) could also help, but it can also screw your entire system when there is something wrong with your file system, so I strongly discourage using it at this moment.

Right. Using WebLogic RMI proprietary implementation (t3) with 6.1 requires
1.3 on the client side. If you absolutely have to use 1.2 on the client side,
IIOP should work - I just tried this and it looks like WebLogic 6.1 implements
EJB spec interop requirements pretty well.

JDBC/OCI driver for JDK1.2

Hi,
I have an evaluation copy of Oracle8 version 8.0.3.0 and
downloaded the JDBC/OCI driver for JDK1.1 (classe111.zip). The
example I used was also taken from this site, which connects to
the database and lists ename from emp, using scott/tiger.
Everything worked fine under JDK1.1 but I can't get the code to
work with JDK 1.2
Does Oracle provide a JDBC/OCI driver that will work with JAVA
1.2 or am I missing something. Please note that I am not using
Oracle8i.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Openlink Software (http://www.openlinksw.com) provides JDBC 2.0
drivers in version 3.2. This version will be hitting our public
web site next week, but you can get pre-release components from
ftp://ftp.openlinksw.com/pre-3.2/index.html
The JDK 1.2 drivers are all the way at the bottom under the
Windows section.

Oracle Lite + Resin + jdk1.2.2 or jdk 1.3.1 problem

Hi!
Can some one help me this the following:
I used Oracle Lite database, Resin app server and jdk1.2.2
When I try to connect my database through simple java-application, all goes fine! But, when I trying to get database communication from my application server and problem arise. First of all dll's such as
OLJDBC40.DLL, OLAD2040.DLL, OLOBJ40.DLL, OLOD2040.DLL OLSQL40.DLL are in the Path and JVM loads them at runtime. I got connection to DB. Than I try to get some DatabaseMetaData info and got EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (for jdk1.3) and "java.exe has generated error (for jdk1.2.2)" errors from VM.
So, any idea?

Hi,
I have got the similar problem when I used MS SQL server + Tomcat + JDK1.3.0 via JdbcOdbc driver. In that configuration the JVM crashs very often. It seems that JdbcOdbc's got unstable problem. Then, I tried other type 4 JDBC driver, it works fine and JVM won't crash. Try Sprinta 2000 JDBC driver, it's a type 4 driver and fast stable.

The above application runs only with JDK1.3.1_02 and not with any other version. This application is creating dynamic table using struts.

Configuring the PATH for jdk1.3.1_01 in WindowsXP

I need help in configuring the autoexec.bat file for jdk1.3.1_01 . I am running on WindowsXP. (I used to have win 98 on my old pc that crashed and had jdk1.2.1 and working just fine) Now I have a new pc and have tried the following:

When I type in C:\path ...it does not show the path I entered. I have no clue what I am doing and the instructions I printed out from sun just do not help me out at all. Your PATH appears to be correct. However, to verify your PATH you should be able to type the following:
c:\>echo %PATH%
This will display your PATH setting on the console. In addition, you can verify that your PATH setting is correct by typing:
c:\>java -version
If your path is set correctly, you should see something like:
java version "1.3.0"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.0-C)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.0-C, mixed mode)
If, instead, you get something like:
"Bad command or file name"
Then your PATH is not configured correctly.

We are using Entrust certificate and we already put cacerts file from jdk1.4 to jdk1.2.1 in jdk/jre/lib/security.
This application was working till we upgraded version from 1.3.1 to 1.4.1.
Is this is problem of 1.4.1 and how do we resolve this?

Basically ArrayStoreException comes :
Indicate that an attempt has been made to store the wrong type of object into an array of objects.
But in jdk1.4.1 it is said that
No usage of java.lang.ArrayStoreException
it may be problem of jdk1.4.1 and try to upgrade to 1.4.2

Classes not found when compiling for jdk1.3.1_01 on red hat 7.2

I have just installed jdk1.3.1_01 (rpm) on linux red hat 7.2
I have written a small program to test, however, the compiler isn't able to locate the classes.

Sorry, typo in the classpath... but now when I compile
I get error: "segmentation fault" then nothing else.
This also happens when I execute a precompiled app (eg
"java OldApp").This is to do with GLIBC-2.2, I believe. :/ (Pointed out by Niteen. :)
"ulimit -s 2048" should fix this. Adding this line to /etc/profile or your ~/.profile shall automatically run this command every log in.

JDK1.2.2 and untrusted server chain and HELP

JDev 10.1.3 and JDK1.2.2 use javac problem

I have an old application that I need to compile in 1.2.2, and have tried the "use javac" checkbox on the project properties compile page. The compiler seems to run, but there is an intential error in the code. I put it there, because the class file didn't seem to get generated. I tried this on command line, and apparently '-source' is an invalid option in 1.2.2.

Thank you for responding. I am aware of (and frustrated by) issues and limitations due to this application's dependancies on an aging platform, and would upgrade if it were my choice. The dependancy is in the vendor's API, and not in code that I can change.
As the invalid option was not captured as a message or counted as an error, I thought that perhaps this could be a potential issue for using javac with any version.
I was hoping to see if there were additional settings controlling the command line options that I couldn't find.

JDeveloper 3.1 and JDK1.2.2: are they REALLY compliant?

I've already been developing in JDev 3.0 using Java 1.1.8 for a few months and have a number of EJB's deployed in an Oracle8i 8.1.5 database. These are accessed by a servlet which is called from a C++ application in order to populate the db tables. I'm using Java Webserver 2.0 and everything works fine.
I've been upgrading to Java 2 with JDev 3.1, Oracle 8i R2, and JDK1.2.2. Everything again works fine when I am testing and debugging in the JDev 3.1 IDE but when I deploy to the Web server, my context lookup for the EJB published name freezes, returns an error status to the C++ app but does not display any error/exception msgs in the server console/log files.
On investigating I found that the java.exe bundled with JDev 3.1 as the JDK1.2.2 version is actually NOT the java.exe that has been dispatched with the release version of JDK1.2.2! There are however two files in the bin directory of the JDK1.2.2 called oldjava.exe and oldjavaw.exe which correspond to the ones bundled with JDev 3.1?
Could someone please explain what is going on? As it stands at the moment the version of java.exe with JDK1.2.2 does not work for my EJB's but if I replace it with the oldjava.exe, it works fine. Does this mean that JDev 3.1 is NOT actually JDK1.2.2 compliant or have I done something wrong?
This is potentially a major problem for our projects so if anyone at Oracle has any info it would be greatly appreciated.

Which means that there is a difference relative to the VM version.
All the names are correct on 8i deployment. And all necessary files are on classpath, (including the EJB source and generated jars, that are also in the /lib on the context dochome).

JDK1.2 client to EJB in Oracle8.1.6

I had my EJB client (JDK1.1.8) with my EJBs (in Oracle8.1.5) all worked before.
After I deployed the same EJBs (with SQLJs) into Oracle8.1.6, my EJB client (JDK1.2.2)
was able to connect and using the EJB sevices.
However, I got some strange behavior which never occurd with JDK1.1.8 and Oracle8.1.5.
I will sometimes get exception for calling the remote method as,

Internal frame dragging perfermance problem in JDK1.4.1

Hi there,
When using internal frame with outline(not faster or LIVE_DRAG_MODE) property with JDK 1.4.1_01 (windows), the speed of internal frame dragging is terrible(very very slow).
The same code runs fine with JDK1.3.X, and it's performance(dragging speed) is acceptable(not very good, so so) when using JDK 1.4.0_X.
I've tried both motheds to set the property as follow, and got the same result:
desktop.setDragMode(JDesktopPane.OUTLINE_DRAG_MODE);
desktop.putClientProperty("JDesktopPane.dragMode", "outline");
But, after I commented the line: g.setXORMode(Color.white); //line Num: 279
in the class javax.swing.DefaultDesktopManager.java, the speed of dragging is very well(as same as when running with JDK1.3.X).
My qestions are:
- How can I improve the internal frame dragging performance in JDK 1.4.1_01(windows)?
- Does my testing mean to a bug in the implementation of the abstract method Graphics.setXORMode() in the JDK 1.4.1_01 windows version ?

We are facing an issue while using LCDS 3.1 running under JDK1.6 in Sun Solaris v5.10 OS & Adobe Flex 4.
Scenario :-

As part of our Flex-based client-server application (with Java backend) we have a performance report generation module. Following flex framework class is used to calculate the performance of various layer of a typical server-based request-response cycle.

The totalTime was working properly before upgrading the rpc.swc to Flex 4 ; However it broke after migrating to Flex SDK 4; The totalTime is now coming as negative junk value.
As we understand that the above Flex framework class method works in conjunction with LCDS running at server side on JDK.
We suspect that the new rpc.swc taken from Flex SDK 4 is causing the issue !

Nothing has changed in the Flex SDK sources for this class since sometime around 2008. Are you running against the same LCDS server as you were before you updated to Flex 4? This certainly seems strange (and bad). Do you see the same behavior with Flex 4.5? What was the version of Flex you were using before switching to Flex 4.0?
If you can provide the additional information, we will look in to this. A reproducable case that was a simple mxml application along with a simple destination config would help us narrow the problem.

With JDK 1.3 this works just fine, as it does with 1.1.8 if
1) I don't use inner class, or
2) I assign the value in initializer, or
3) I leave the keyword final away.
and none of these is actually an option for me, neither using a newer JDK, if only there is another way to solve this.
Reasons why I am trying to do this:
1) I can't use a newer JDK
2) I want to be able to assign the variables value in constructor
3) I want to prevent anyone (including myself ;)) from changing the value in other parts of the class (yes, the code above is just to give you the idea, not the whole code)
4) I must be able to use inner classes
So, does anyone have a suggestion how to solve this problem of mine? Or can someone say that this is a JDK 1.1.8 feature, and that I just have to live with it? In that case, sticking to solution 3 is probably the best alternative here, at least for me (and hope that no-one will change the variables value). Or is it crappy planning..?

You cannot use a final field if you do not
initialize it at the time of declaration. So yes,
your design is invalid.Sorry if I am being a bit too stubborn or something. :) I am just honestly a bit puzzled, since... If I cannot use a final field in an aforementioned situation, why does following work? (JDK 1.3.1 on Linux)

However, I assume you could
get by with eliminating the final field and simply
passing the value directly to the Inner class's
constructor. if not, you'll have to rethink larger
aspects of your design.I guess this is the way it must be done.

The internal frame can show up when I use JBuilder3.0. But if I use JDK1.3 to run
it, it can't show up. Who can tell me what's wrong with it and what I should do

You'll need frame.setVisible(true).
I think this was new around 1.3 (previously JInternalFrame defaulted to visible).
