Jive Forums Load Time

Hi,
We have installed Jive Forums on our NW 7 SPS 14 portal and, for the most part, it is fine. We do have an occasional issue in that the initial load time can be over 40 seconds for the application to appear. Subsequent loads are fine. Sadly, there is no consistency across which server this happens or to which user (often it is less than 3 seconds). This happens in both our clustered production and non-clustered development environments.
Anybody got any pointers as to where to look next?
Neil.

Well I just timed it:
56 seconds from hitting the reply button until an edit postion..
I append I screenshot I made after 10 seconds:

This stays the same while the status bar of Firefox 2.0 says: Connecting with forums.ni.com and waitn for forums.ni.com

  • Forum load time extremely slow

    Hi,
One of my biggest concerns with the forum is that it takes really long time to load a web page!!! I visit various forums everyday, and even with a lot more ads and scripts and applets, they load much faster than this forum. It puzzles me what is so complex about this forum that it requires so much time to load a page. I've tried browsing here on Internet Explorer 6, Opera 9.62 and Google Chrome and it is slow on ALL of them! This is a serious concern, and should be taken care of ASAP.
Also, the graphical editor of posts is a little buggy on Opera, which i mainly use. So hopefully it can be taken care of in the future. and the addition of a 'Quick Reply' option like in other forums will be much appreciated.

We are aware of the slowness issues.  HP is working to resolve the issue.
Like you, I'm looking forward to that being solved. =)

  • Post your page loading times

Sure wish I could create a poll for this, but anyway...
Doesn't matter whether I have the customizing scripts enabled or not...GreaseMonkey and/or the Stylish add-on enabled or disabled. I turn AdBlock off or leave it on. Browser cache cleared, or loaded up with common AdobeForums elements.
Connecting with a robust Comcast cable connection, usually testing at about 6100 kbps for download speeds.
Most thread index pages take on average anywhere from 28 - 34 seconds to completely load for me.
A thread with no replies maybe 10 - 12 seconds.
Is anyone getting significantly faster speeds on similar connections?

In the WebX forums, when they were functioning at their best, going from one thread to another one or replying to a post was as fast as changing channels on cable TV with a remote.  Never more than a fraction of a second.
Here, it's always more like when the WebX were experiencing slow-downs, before someone gave the servers a smart kick in the side.  At least a few seconds to load a page, and replying seems to take forever, as does editing a post.
To the actual delays, you have to add the time wasted going back to the top of a page because of the lack of breadcrumbs at the bottom, time wasted navigating to the last-read post in a thread, the slow typing in the reply box, etc.
I stand by my educated-guess determination that these new forums are about 30 times slower overall:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/417383?tstart=60
After four [now nine] days of using the new Jive forums, I've come to the conclusion that I have dedicated about three times the usual amount of time to the Adobe forums and have accomplished less than one tenth of what I used to do in a similar amount of time.
This works out to a ratio of 30 to 1 in terms of how much better the old forum format performed in comparison to what we've ended up with here so far.
    I'm
basing this calculation on the number of hours spent here since last
Sunday versus the few satisfying threads I have been able to read as
well as the remarkably little assistance I've been able to give.
    These
results are naturally somewhat skewed by such things as the
proportionally inordinate amount of time spent in the Forum Comments
forum as well as reading and commenting on forum complaints on the
other forums I've visited, to wit:  Photoshop Macintosh, Bridge
Macintosh, Camera Raw, DNG, Color Management, Photography, Typography,
Type, Illustrator, InDesign and this Forum Comments forums.
    While
this is a conclusion based on my subjective use of the forums and will
necessarily be different than what other users experience, it does give
me a somewhat quantifiable measure of the magnitude of the problem as
    it affects me personally.

  • Slow BIOS load times

Hello, I own a T420i and have been experiencing very slow load times on startup.  The "ThinkPad" BIOS screen stays active for roughly 5-10min before continuing like normal.  Once operational the computer works fine other then an occasional freeze up (which becomes extremely annoying with a boot time of 10 min).
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Epitome, welcome to the forums,
do you have any external devices, especiall USB storage, attached to the system when booting?  If so please detach them to see if you experience the same problem.
If the system boots normally please exclude the USB devices from the boot order in BIOS; the system may be scanning them for boot information before moving on to start from the main hard drive.

  • Dvrcast load times - is HDS a solution?

We are streaming H.264 video to the dvrcast application using RTMP streaming.  Everything is working fine, though we are noticing some unacceptable load times when loading large videos for playback that have been recorded this way.  I found http://forums.adobe.com/message/3399973#3399973 which offers some suggestions.  I will be looking into post-processing the video to defragment it, but I'm also interested in HDS.  Is it possible to use HDS with dvrcast streams that were recorded to mp4 via RTMP streaming?  I tried the HDS URL convention - http://server/dvrcast_origin/stream_name.f4m but this isn't working.  Are there other suggestions for improving load times for long videos with the dvrcast application?

Additionally, I can't seem to get the F4V post processor to work with these files.  It is throwing an error "cannot open file" and the -v flag adds no helpful output.

  • Data Load Times, etc.

    Hello Forums:
    I saw this website:
    http://www.s-w-h.com/index.php?language=en
And found that a website like this loaded very quickly, and
seemed to fit almost all resolution.
I was wondering how did they make it fit dynamically? And how
did they manage to reduce load times so significantly?
I kinda wondered if it's possible to develop a massive forum
or online community thing using purely Flash. Would that be
possible? What if there were lots of user interaction, can the load
    times be significantly cut down?

Does it load all the data while connected with 5GHz frequency…  What is the IP address that you are getting from the Router? You can check the IP address in the following manner:
If you wish to find out your own IP address, you should run the same ms-dos prompt by clicking Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. A black pop up box should come up, type: "ipconfig /all" … There check the IP address and Default Gateway under LAN….
    # Open up the browser and on the address bar type “IP address of Default Gateway” that will open up the Router setup page…
    # In that page itself make the MTU size to 1400 from Auto….
    # Make the following Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11.. Click Save Settings...
    Then check the connectivity…

  • Itunes Load Times

    Hey all.
I would just like a bit of input regarding the Itunes load times? How long on average does it seem to take from when you first click on the itunes icon, until it pops up? Because it seems to take quite a bit longer than my other media players, and I was just wondering if I am facing an issue.

You have posted in the Mac forum, you will probably find more help in the Windows forum.

  • Long loading time if no internet connection available (VS 2005 Redist)

    Hallo forum members!
I've been searching for a solution for my problem for a while - without success. It isn't really a critical issue, but quite annoying anyways.
Here's the problem i'm dealing with: I've developed an .NET application using Visual Studio 2005 and the included Crystal Report classes. When deploying my module everything works  as expected, offering a decent performance when loading the Crystal Report assemblies provided by the redistributable package - if an internet connection is available. If the system doesn't offer such a connection (e.g. not properly configured proxy settings) the module takes a huge amount of time to be loaded. An examination (using ProcMon) leaded to the conclusion that the Crystal Report assemblies try to retrieve the system connection settings from the registry in order to establish a connection to the internet. This is done only once when loading for the first time.
Has anyone experienced the same problem? What is this connection used for? Is there a way to suppress this behaviour on systems without a valid internet connection in order to avoid this annoying long loading time?
Thanks on advance for your help.
    Greetings,
    L.F.

Nothing like a good vacation. And I got your christmas present early :). While you were away we (actually one other customer) figured it out. I have written a note re. the resolution that was supposed to be published yesterday, but it's still not out there, so here it is as I submitted it:
    Symptom
When a report is loaded is takes between 150 - 180 seconds to display
This is only reproducible on computers with no internet connection
There are no error messages and the report comes up eventually
    Reproducing the Issue
Create a Windows application with the following function calls:
              new Report()
             report.SetDataSource(dataSet)
The function SetDataSource takes 2 plus minutes to execute
    Cause
On SetDataSource() an attempt is made to connect to crl.verisign.com
SetDataSource() uses the framework and as per the Microsoft Knowledge Base specified under "Resolution", it is actually the framework that is attempting the connection
    Resolution
Solution is described in this Microsoft Knowlege Base:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936707
The following Microsoft article also discusses the issue:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb629393.aspx
An alternative workaround to the above is as follows:
Open IE and go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options...
    Go to the Advanced tab
    Find the Security heading
Under the Security heading find "Check for publisher's certificate revocation"
    Uncheck this option
    Keywords
long time load crl.verisign.com certificate revoked internet
The note will be published here:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/businessobjects-notes
and the number will be 1270414

  • How can I speed up loading time on Android?

    Hello!
I'm creating an AIR app for Android and I've run into an issue with the loading time: when the user first clicks on the icon, there's 10 seconds of black screen before the first screen of my app appears. At least this happens on older Android devices. The delay is only a second or two on newer devices. I know this question has been asked before:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/764981
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4035208#4035208
    http://zehfernando.com/2011/a-mobile-air-application-post-mortem/
But I haven't been able to find an answer that's worked for me. I've tried a a preloader and I've found that even loading the tiniest app takes around 10 seconds. This is how long it took me to load an app that was just a single frame with a simple rectangle image in it. From what I've read, the issue is that the Android device is loading the AIR runtime, and this takes time - no matter how small the actual app is. I should add that I'm using captive runtime.
I'm OK with the performance on new Android devices but, as far as I can tell, Android is so fragmented that many people are still running older devices and OS versions. So, I'd like to provide a good user experience on older devices. I think a ten second wait is just too long and will kill the entire experience for many people.
Is there any update on this? Does anyone have a solution?
If I can't improve the loading time, I think I'll try to only make the app available for newer devices.
I've heard people taking about creating 'native wrapper' and somehow embedding their swf file in native code that has a loading screen. Has anyone got something like this work? I'm currently reading up on Android splash screens in native code. They seem relatively simple to create. I hope I can somehow embed my swf in a native program with a splash screen. Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Damian

    Hi Anton,
Yes, I tried launching an empty project with just one frame and a simple rectange image embedded in it. This also took 10 seconds to load. Yes, I'm using AIR 4.0 as well. As far as I can tell, the issue is AIR itself is taking time to load onto the device - and this is independent of what I put in my program. I think I have three options:
    1. learn to live with the delay
    2. decide it's too long and not support older Android devices with my app
    3. figure out if I can embed my swf in a "native wrapper" as suggested in one of my original three links.
    I'm hoping to do 3, but I don't know if it's possible.

  • Issue with site load time when exported as HTML. Addressed?

Has the issue with website load time been addressed?
I believe the site attempts to load the entire image content at the initial visit - meaning any galleries with numerous pictures are all included when first getting to the site. This is causing a HUGE increase in load time. I was told when I last brought it up that it was an apparent issue that needed to be addressed.
    Any type of resolution coming?
    Site for reference: www.dkrecollection.com

Major updates of Muse are targeted to release roughly every quarter. The 1.0 release was in mid-May. The 2.0 release was in mid-August. A fundamental change to image loading would only appear as part of a major update due to the engineering and testing efforts required.
As provided in your previous thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/4659347#4659347 the only workaround until then is to reduce the number of images in the slideshow.

  • OWC Discussions (Jive Forums) - Add custom report - anyone tried?

Has anyone out there tried to add a custom (Java) report class on the Jive Forums Admin Console's report utility? I created a custom report class and want to install it using the Admin Console. However, when I click the "Install Class" button, the error says that the "Class is not an implementation of com.jivesoftware.base.stats.Report". But my custom class extends AbstractForumReport which is a subclass of AbstractReport which implements the Report interface. I have been unsuccessful in finding anyone who has successfully accomplished this.
The version of Jive Forums that I am running is the only one available from the webcenter (10.1.3) companion cd: Jive Forums Silver (5.1.0). I don't have the time or option to upgrade to 11g.
    Thank you,
    Mark

    Michael,
Are you using WebCenter as well to use the forum?
If so, you can set the permissions there as well.
e.g. in WebCenter Spaces, you can change the permissions of the moderator role to include the privilege of editing / deleting posts or replies per space, which gives you greater flexibility opposed to granting people the privilege in the forum app.
I'm quite sure there is a similar setting in a WebCenter Portal application, but am not 101% sure.
    Kind regards,
    Rob

  • What r the ways to reduce the load time of master data

    Hi
The full load of the master data load IP is taking 18hr to 2 days loading on average 2516360 Records
Is their any option to reduce load time as its causing data base lock and impacting transports(other than data selection)
    Thanks in advance
    Anuj

You will have to do some research. What MD extractor are you talking about?
Test on R/3 system: First try to extract a considerable amount of records via transaction RSA3 in R/3 (10.000 or 100.000). Keep the time that it takes.
Extract the same into BW but only into PSA. Again measure the time.
Load data from PSA into datatarget and see how long this takes. You should now have a picture on where the performance problems are located.
Is the performance also bad for small loads or is there a boundary before which performance is ok. (in other words, is loading 200.000 records ten times longer then loading 20.000 records?)
    Suspect the following in R/3:
    - datasource enhancements in R/3. A redesign may improve your extraction in a big way.
    - missing indexes. If you are extracting data from tables without proper indexes the extraction performance can be dramatic.
Suspect the following if loading to PSA is bad:
    - Datapackage reads data in small chunks (much smaller than 50000 records). Overhead causes more time than the actual data transport.
    - Network problems. Maybe the network is congested by other servers?
If loading from PSA to datatarget is slow:
    - Check start routines for performance.
    - Are enough batch partitions available? Sometimes activation of ODS can be improved by more parallel processes.
    - Are you using a lot masterdata-lookups when filling the datatargets?
When you report you findings in this forum we may be able to help you further.

  • Really slow loading times

    Hey BT Support people,
I have been experiencing some pretty much unusable loading times on pretty much every website that I care to load. It even takes a good 30 seconds to download a 34kb email.
I am a web developer and know a good deal about networking e.t.c so I have tried a number of things to try and pinpoint the problem.
Firstly I phone BT, got the nice lady at the call centre to do a line test for me. She called back telling me the line is fine, and so it MUST be my routers. I performed a few test myself and checked the router e.t.c but most importantly I opened the command prompt and typed the following line
    tracert www.mcmnet.co.uk
Just a random address. Here were the results of my test

The bold section is what is happening inside BT. Now that, if you ask me is a **bleep** of a lot of bouncing around between routers.
The lady at the call centre assured me it has nothing to do with them but was in fact my fault. ........ As you can see in RED, is how long it took for the hop to get out my house and onto some other routers elsewhere in the world. Less than a few milliseconds. So unfortunately the call centre lady is in fact, wrong.
I am a little anxious to get our internet back up to speed and working again as, my job by its very nature is permanently in need of a quick internet connection, and working from home is certainly not an option if I can't even visit the BT forums without it taking 2 minutes to load each page.
I have checked my router settings and I am getting downstream speeds of 5340kbps. plenty fast enough.
Does ANYONE know what's going on and how to fix it? Appreciated.
    Thanks

I too am finding the same. A speedtest shows consistent 16.5mbs throughput, ping 34ms. Cleared all browser caches using the inetcpl.cpl command to clear any persistant .txt files and also flushed DNS cache and ran "net stop dnscache, net start dnscache" which can sometimes resolve odd site issues.
No change with many web pages seeming very slow to load. If it were just an odd site then fair enough but it appears not.
Enough have been slow however to cause me to "google" the issue... hence finding this thread.

  • Increase in Loading time for LV search in 2011

Initially when I loaded LV2011 my quick drop and the search took nearly 5 seconds but now it takes nearly 20 seconds to load so is there any reason for this kind of performance. Also I don't have anyother big software loaded or running in my PC. I have added few toolkits from VI package manager may be that is the reason?.

(Actually, I find several internal dialogs seem to take longer to load the first time then they should including the properties dialog.  But not 20 seconds long.)
Hopefully, with this message thread in the LabVIEW forum, others can comment and offer suggestions on how to determine what the issue your having is.
