JPEG convert creates corrupted images?

I have searched but not seen other discussion on this, if it has been discussed before I apologize, but would appreciate links.
I'm working on putting together a website right now, and have to convert a lot of images. Mostly just scaling, but some need converting to jpg as well.
I created an Automator application that is simply:
1. Get selected Finder Items
2. Scale
3. Convert to jpeg
The images output from this, then uploaded to the website look fine in Safari, but no other browser will load them. Firefox on Mac & Windows just shows the alt text, and when one uses the developer extension it shows a wrong file size the the image downloaded along with a broken image icon. IE just shows broken image icons.
I saw some discussion on the fact that Preview does not really handle the Automator actions, that Image Handler does. I even tried using Michael Henley's Apple Script solution for dealing with some image converting problems. The output jpegs still did not work.
Neither jpeg, nor jpeg2000 seem to work. Any ideas?
  Mac OS X (10.4)

Hello Ric,
The source code seems to be fine, other images that did not require this conversion all appear without problem, as do images converted by hand. We have several hundred items to deal with though, so Automator would be a god send.
Here are two links:
http://www.achonawear.com/index.php?mainpage=product_info&cPath=16&productsid=21
This one was created by my associate, who used the Automator app I created and emailed to him. He also has Tiger (obviously) though I'm not sure which version. He also has a G4, albeit a MDD 867.
http://www.achonawear.com/index.php?mainpage=product_info&cPath=7&productsid=19
This in one of the items I put in.
For an alternate example here is one I put in without the use of Automator:
http://www.achonawear.com/index.php?mainpage=product_info&cPath=2&productsid=6
On both systems Safari displays the images without fail. Firefox does not display them at all. If you try to load the image only you get an error message: The image “http://www.achonawear.com/images/large/DP145WM1%20copy.1.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
To preempt some questions, most of my image names do not contain a space. That one image does as it is the one I have been experimenting with and hence started out by doing a duplicate in the Finder. The space isn't the problem.
All the images are being uploaded via the admin interface for Zen Cart.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Why is it so difficult to convert a Raw image to a jpeg in Photoshop Elements ?! I have version 12. Once i realized to change the tick box in Camera Raw to 8 bit instead of 16 bit and Flatten image ( sometimes can flatten image if the flatten option isn't greyed out) hey presto i thought i was up and running. However after saving the photograph as a jpeg and renaming it e, after the word edit. I switched off/on my computer only for all the images i had spent time working on to have disappeared. Feeling very upset as there is no Technical Help to telephone at adobe and i don't know what to do.

    My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • Can I covert an clip from quicktime and create an image (jpeg)?

    I have a clip from a movie that I would really like to convert into an image to share. Can anyone tell me how I can do this?

    Open the movie in QuickTime Player and move the playhead to the frame you wish to capture (right/left arrow keys step through frames).
    Enlarge the movie to get the largest size image you can get before things get fuzzy and hit the Command and c keys (Copy).
    Open the Preview app and under the File menu choose "New from Clipboard". Save the file as JPEG.

  • How to create dynamic images in java servlets?

    I want to create dynamic images in java servlet. Can servlet create dynamic images that based on the input data files? The results can be displayed in GIF, JPG..format? how can this be done? any example in internet?
    What OS do I need to install and what other requirements needed if i want to build up a servlet server?
    Thanks a lot!

    Also worth having a look at SVG http://www.w3.org/TR/2001/REC-SVG-20010904/, you can get a viewer at http://www.adobe.com/svg/ or you can use Batik http://xml.apache.org/batik/index.html to convert SVG to other formats such as JPEG.

  • Corrupted image shown when horizontal elasticity set to "contract"

    Hello.
    Using Forms and Reports 10.1.2.3.0
    I have a report where I try to show images horizontally centered in their surrounding frame.
    For this I created an image-item inside the frame (a repeating-frame, because the images are fetched from the DB), manually centered it inside the frame, attached it with an anchor to its surrounding frame, and set its horizontal elasticity to "contract" (vertical elasticity is set to "fixed"). This is actually the preferred method for doing this and a few threads in this forum recommend it.
    What I got in the resulting PDF was a corrupted image under certain circumstances.
    To narrow this down I created three different images (width*height)
    1. 1000*666
    2. 1000*750
    3. 1000*800
    loaded them into the DB, and tried to run the PDF. You can see the result in the following screenshot:
    When I set the horizontal elasticity to "fixed", the image is not corrupted (this is not a solution since the image gets left-aligned then).
    Setting the OUTPUTIMAGEFORMAT to something different than the default (JPEG) didn't change anything.
    Interestingly enough the Foxit PDF-Reader shows it correctly, while both AdobeReader X and XI and even Inkscape show the image corrupted (not only on my PC).
    We tried this with several images/photos, and the only ones being shown correctly seem to be images with an aspect-ratio of 4:3 or higher. I was not able to pinpoint exactly at which ratio this behaviour manifests itself.
    Anyone got an idea what may have caused this?
    Thanks in advance
    Markus

    Addendum:
    Setting the vertical elasticity to "expand" fixes it too, but since we often have images with an aspect-ratio of 3:4 or even higher I can't use this, since they would use way too much vertical space (and would negatively impact our layout).

    The following code converts an cmyk jpeg image into an rgb jpeg image.
    The only problem if this code is that it loads the whole image in memory and thus you'll need a lot of RAM when converting large images. For example, it take around 300 MB to convert a 3000*3800px image (this is a 5MB jpeg image when compressed on disk).

  • Cannot create disk image iDvd 7.1.2 (multiplex error)

    I'm at my wits end and extremely disappointed.
    Basically, I've gone through the threads that I can find, I'm down to importing a basic movie directly into iDvd.  No menus.  No options enabled (that I'm aware of).
    When I go through the iDvd process of creating a disk image all goes smoothy until the very end when I get a multiplexor error (no error code or text saying why).
    Extremely frustrating.  This is on a new Macbook Pro running 10.7.2.  I don't have problems with my other Apple systems, just this new one.  Perhaps Apple would like to take it back??

    Hi
    Multiplexing Error
    Multiplexing error is a very complex problem due to many things (long long list following) -
    one common but not obvious reason is that material on the iDVD menu goes outside the TV-Safe area (or just touching it).
    So first - turn on TV-Safe area and move any object well inside of this.
    Wide screen stretched - usually (as I think) it is due to making a 4x3 movie in a 16x9 wide-screen project OR the other way around. This forces one to on flat-screen TV (or other) set the presenting view right - My has 4x3, wide-screen, zoom and auto-wide-screen and I have to switch this by my remote for some DVD I've made "wrong" way.
    Now my long long list on Multiplex Error

    as described by Donnyboy69.  Does the title of your project have any symbols or decimal points in it. If so, that is why you are getting the error. I had a project that had a + sign which caused the same problem. I renamed it without the symbol and low and behold, it worked.
    B.    Location of Chapters
    • Can’t be at start or end of movie (Skip first/start one - iDVD sets this by it self. At the End - no need)

    Multiplex Error
    Chuck, Chicago 2/7/2009.
    Back again. Here is what I have found to work. I also have and use a LaCie DVD-R/RW DL external drive and a LaCie external hard drive as well. Since yesterday I have tried a few ways to burn a themed iDVD project having four 56 minute movies on it, amounting to 226 minutes onto a DVD DL disc, capacity 240 minutes. Apple tech support really didn't know what to do but gave me a very good tip. I had two options left. Apple tech support's tip was to try disc image. One of the replies on a thread with this subject said not to, but my experience today is good. Put your project onto "Burn to disc image," under "iDVD, file." Yesterday encoding took me 23 1/2 hours. Overnight for iDVD disc image, encoding took 21 1/2 hours (again) while I slept. This morning I tried to copy/burn disc image to a DVD with Roxio Toast 7, and it stopped near the end of the burn with some kind of "error" message. So then I tried Utilities> Disc Utility> Burn icon, and followed it through. Be sure to click the DVD DL drive in the window "Burn disc in.". I had one other problem though. At the end of a 46 minute copy, it started to verify, and at the end of verify it rejected the burn. So I tried again, and when "verify" appeared, I clicked on "Skip." The disc finished burning and is doing fine and well. A long and tortuous process, but at last something works. I made several additional copies using Disc Utility. Best wishes. Chuck, Chicago.

    (Not a 'guy' but I will answer!)
    First, I do not think that mixing wide-screen and standard makes a difference in iDVD.
    Second, you should use a better brand of DVD disk. Also, many of us have experienced fewer problems on playback with DVD-R disks. Recommended brands here are Verbatim, Maxell and Taiyo Yuden. Memorex and TDK are not consistent and may not give you a correct burn. They apparently have fewer layers in the composition of the disk. I have always used Verbatim DVD-R disks and have not had any burn problems.
    Also, choose a slower burn speed, 4x or less.
    Third, to determine if the iDVD project will burn properly, create a disk image file (from within iDVD, go File->Save as Disk Image) and test it. Mount the disk image and then open DVD Player (in Applications) and view your project. If it plays correctly, you can then burn the actual DVD disk from the disk image file using Disk Utility.

    I did everything I've seen suggested, but a friend (who used to be an Apple Genius) suggested that I do a safe reboot (by holding down the shift key until you see the spinning gear on gray background, then release, then restart when your start-up screen appears).
    It worked, and I got a clean burn from iDVD.
    Hopefully this can help other people.

    Well, I finally got it, and it was odd enough to post here incase anyone looks this topic up again. Many things were tried, including burning the unedited film, the edited film without titles and chapter markers, abbreviating the chapter markers in case length was the issue (remember the old iMovie used to truncate them when moving to iDVD?). In the process, I noticed that one, and only one, chapter marker was on the same line as the title marker. All the others were on the line above. The only way I seemed able to change that was to clip a few seconds of film. After that last clip, the offending marker took a place on the line above, as were all the others. That run published, compiled completely and burned. That's one for the books.

    To add my experience with Multiplex Errors using iDVD (7.0.4), I recently created two iDVD projects
    Video from both passed from FCE 4.01 with chapters
    One project worked fine in creating disk image file
    The other gave Multiplex Errors
    I tried suggestions to remove special characters and no chapter marks at beginning, but nothing worked
    Note that I've used iDVD for dozens of projects and this is first time I've run into Multiplex Errors
    Anyway, for problem project, I tried an experiment where I removed all chapters in FCE and passed to new iDVD project
    This time multiplex errors gone
    So had something to do with chapters
    So now I tried numerous experiments to remove individual chapters and try again creating disk image with new iDVD project
    After numerous tries, I was able to narrow problem down to 1 "Bad" chapter mark
    That is, when I left the "bad" chapter in my FCE project and passed to iDVD, iDVD gave multiplex error
    When I removed "bad" chapter mark (and others in), no multiplex error
    As a final experiment, I moved "bad" chapter mark about 5-10 sec's beyond original point and passed to iDVD, the multiplex errors now magically went away and I was able to finally create my disk image.
    I have no idea why this worked, but thought I'd mention here in case someone else runs into similar problem.

    In addition to Bengt's fine advice, burning errors can occur if you have located any of your menu buttons wholly or partly outside of the safe TV viewing area. Go to your main project menu, then click on View/Show TV Safe Area, to check. Drag into the safe viewing area any buttons that are outside the safe viewing area.
    Russ One - suggest this
    Multiplex Error-There was an error during muxing preparation
    One thing that worked for me was to export the video w/o chapter markers as a self contained movie (thereby not loosing the edits & etc). Then make a new FCE project and import that movie into a new sequence and add the chapter markers. I've used "-", "&" and "," with no problem in the chapter names. Removing the markers or exporting without them did solve the problem but renaming them with just numbers 1,2,3....5, did not solve the problem and since this problem seems to happen with with iMovie as well, it would suggest the problem is in the video or audio and in combination with the chapter markers iDVD just can't handle it. The only other possibility is that both iMovie and FCE share the same or similar chapter marker code that some how is corrupting the markers.
    Summary - What to try
    1. Chapters
    • Only A to Z and 0 to 9 in chapter title
    • No Chapter mark at very beginning of movie
    • No Chapter mark in or within 2 seconds from any transition in movie
    2. TV-safe area for buttons (no one outside this)
    3. Safe re-boot
    4. No other external devices connected - that are not needed
    SDMacuser adds to this
    • On #4 ... No ext. devices. Some think this applies mainly to ext. FW. Not the case. Also applies to ext. USB2 as well (not to mention flash drives too).
    Do not leave 3rd party devices / camera / camcorder plugged in unless it is being used with iDvd's One Step process. Certain web cams can trigger this also (especially ones with added features like LED light/s that draw additional power from the FW or USB bus).
    5. Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-up hard disk
    6. Make a DiskImage first - reduces where problem originates
    7. Trash iDVD pref. file
    8. Make a new iDVD project
    9. Movies in project with same aspect ratio e.g. 4x3 or 16x9
    10. No other programs/applications running during iDVD process. e.g. Internet, screen & energy savers

  • Convert a Tiff Image to png and show

    Hello;
    I wanto to convert a Tif image to png and show this in my web page but i dont want to save the png iamge in my server.
    Actualy i do that:
    byte[] bytes = imagenData;
                    ByteArraySeekableStream tiffStrm = new ByteArraySeekableStream(bytes);
                    String[] CdcNms = ImageCodec.getDecoderNames(tiffStrm);
                    ImageDecoder tifDecoder = ImageCodec.createImageDecoder(CdcNms[0], tiffStrm, new TIFFDecodeParam());
    //                 Check the number of pages
                    int IFDs = tifDecoder.getNumPages();
    //                 Get the first page
                    RenderedImage ren = tifDecoder.decodeAsRenderedImage(1);
                    byte[] bytes2 = doSingleConversion(ren);AND
    protected byte[] doSingleConversion(RenderedImage tifImage) throws Exception
              byte[] bytes = null;
              String out = "temp.png";
              try {
                   //      Create the PNG file
                   PNGEncodeParam pngParm = PNGEncodeParam.getDefaultEncodeParam(tifImage);
                   JAI.create("filestore", tifImage, out, "PNG", pngParm);
                   //Read the file into a byte array
                   File f = new File(out);
                   FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream(f);
                   bytes = new byte[(int) f.length()];
                   in.read(bytes);
                   in.close();
                   return bytes;
              catch(Exception e) {
                   e.printStackTrace ();
                   throw(e);
         }But this code save de image in the server; its posible do it without save.

    Numbers the iWorks program? Not sure you can convert it to that or just a list of numbers. Never heard of anyone that would even want to convert an Image file, Photo, to any other format. Other then another image format like JPG, PNG or a PSD Photoshop file.

  • Problem in creating 1 image using differnt images

    Dear Fellows I want to create an image by using different images in byte array format. Images may be transparent or normal images. I want final result in byte array. I am using the following technique which is working fine but the problem with this technique is that it takes too much time to create an image. This is because I am using MediaTraker. If I delete the code of MediaTracker then program have undeterministic behavior i.e, sometimes it create the final image properly and sometimes nothing is displayed in final image.
    I need some help from you. If anyone of you know the technique to draw image using different images without using mediaTracker kindly let me know.

  • What's the best way to create disk images?

    of 300GB  hard drives or partitions?
    Disk utility is failing for me with an input/output error.
    A typical example:
    I have a new HFS+ 500GB external FW 800 drive that I am using a destination.
    I will boot from my original 'install' DVD and then open up disk utility to start the disk image creation.
    Note: my source is my "Macintosh HD" partition that is around 300GB.
    Everything looks like it is running well, then a couple hours into it, it fails... something like:
    "cannot create img.. blah input/output error".
    Note: Verify Disk shows no errors on the source.
    One guess is that the img creation process is failing after I leave the computer and perhaps my computer falls asleep. I tried setting the 'Energy Saver' prefs in the systems prefs, but of course, since I'm running off the install DVD, I wasn't able to get into the prefs.
    Anyway, ultimately, I need to create periodic disk images of my macs.. so what are people using to do this?
    Thanks for the comments!
    Donovan

    Eric, Carbon Copy Cloner is what I was leaning towards. The owner says his guess is that there are bad blocks on my HD, and since Disk Utility is block based, that it is failing where CCC is file based, and will just skip files that are corrupted or that it can't copy.
    I guess I'll roll with that for now.. but it would be nice if the Disk Utility logs spit out a more descriptive log.. instead of "could not create disk image, input/output error".
    Thanks!

  • Disk Utility Error 61 when attempting to create disk image on external driv

    I would like to make occasional archive backups of my three macintosh computers. I bought a new Western Digital 2TB drive for this purpose, and formatted it as Mac OS Extended. Trying to do a disk image backup using Disk Utility, I follow the directions:
    - Startup from an install DVD.
    - Start Disk Utilities and select "Restore"
    - Drag "Macintosh HD" into the Source box
    - Click on "New Image" and select compressed and 128-bit AES encryption
    This leads to the error message: Unable to create "....." (error -61)
    I have enocountered this problem both with my iMac G5 and a MacBook, both running Leopard.
    Does anyone know what this error means, what I am doing wrong, and/or if there is another way to create disk image backups? Help!

    1. For reasons I don't know disc images seem to become more fragile the larger they get. They also can be subject to file corruption that affects the entire disc image, whereas file corruption on a clone would only affect certain files.
    2. You cannot put multiple clones on the same volume. Each clone must be on a separate volume, but you can have multiple volumes on a single drive simply by partitioning the drive accordingly. Of course you need a drive large enough to accommodate each clone. Each clone should be to a space equal to the capacity of the cloned drive.
    3. I'm not a big fan of TM, although I must confess it has become more reliable since it's release, especially with Snow Leopard. However, there are many backup utilities that can create clones, perform incremental updates, and archive changed files. See the following:

    I created an image in Photoshop and saved it as the PSD file. Now when I try and open it it says it is not compatible with my version. How could this be when I created it in this version?

    That depends on why it won't open.  Most of the time it means the file is corrupted and unlikely to be recovered. If you saved it right after adding or copying a LOT of layers - then it might just be the layer limit and we can attempt to recover it.

  • Problem in converting text to image.

    Hi I am trying to convert a text to image. The code for the same is pasted below. The problem is how do I change the background color. No matter what color I give with Graphics2D object, the background is always black. I want a white background.
    public class TextToImg1
    public static void main(String args[])
    try
    int width = 400;
    int height = 400;
    BufferedImage bimage = new BufferedImage(width, height, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
    Graphics2D g2D = bimage.createGraphics();
    g2D.drawString("This is the sample page to convert text to image.",100,100);
    g2D.setBackground(Color.WHITE);
    g2D.setColor(Color.WHITE);
    File f = new File ("anImage.jpg");
    ImageIO.write (bimage, "jpeg", f);
    catch(Exception exception)
    System.err.println(exception.getMessage());
    }

    Probably because you didn't draw the background. Use the fillRect(...) method to paint the background using the color your want.

  • Checking for corrupt image or element

    Hi
    Hoping someone may be able to help, I have a 256 page book which I created in InDesign CS3, the book is made up of several documents.
    I need to export to a PDF, each time I try it fails as there is a corrupt image. Is there anyway I check the documents for corrupt elements before I create the PDF?
    Any help appreciated.

    You need to "Divide and Conquer." It's not unusual to have a failure exporting to PDF with low disk space, but that might not be your problem. In either case the first step is the same. Divide the document in half during the export process and see if each half will export separately.
    If you can export both halves, you may need to live with that and simply recombine them in Acrobat. I don't recall any definitive answers for what to do fix this. Deleting temporary files may help.
    If you still get a failure, divide that section in half and try again (see below). If both sections fail, it could be either a bad font or more than one bad image.
    Make a copy of the document and change all the fonts to something simple and reliable, like Times New Roman, and see if that works. If it does, make a new copy of the original and eliminate fonts one by one, starting with cheap or freebie fonts from the web, and test after each replacement.
    If only one section failed it's more likely an image, and you should be able to isolate the page by continuing to divide the section that fails. Once you know which page, make a copy, and remove images one by one, starting with .eps if there are any.
    If you find a bad image, try resaving it and replacing with a native .ai or .psd.

  • How do I create an Image of my Solaris 10 (Intel) server?

    I'm currently running Solaris 10 (Intel) on a Dell PowerEdge 2650. I'd like to create an Image of the server now that I have all the extra software installed and configured correctly.
    I used Symantec Ghost for my Window based servers, does anyone have any suggestions for the best method/software to do the same for my Solaris servers? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Using dd is about the most hideous thing to do since restoring the data will cause you much grief. The best approach would be to use the 'ufsdump' command. You can easily dump your slices into files, and perform either full or interactive restores.
    Better yet; whenever you get a bigger disk you won't be wasting space (or risk corrupting data) through the use of dd. Next to data the dd command would also restore the partition table, boot sector, etc. And thats not very good if the disks differ too much.
