JRockit Crash

===================
JROCKIT FATAL ERROR (72): Fatal internal error in JRockit during garbage collection.
Try to reduce the heap size using -Xmx:<size>m, i.e. "-Xmx:16m".

Java options:
java -da -jrockit ... (no -X options whatsoever)
This program performs extensive FileChannel.map() into a very large file (15GB) but I am sure there is no memory leak (at most, 1000 or so of the maps are accessible at any given time).
The program is single threaded and crashes after 5 minutes or so.
If there is a way to provide more diagnostic information, please let me know how and I will add it here.
Thanks,
Zapta

Try setting a max heap size with -Xmx. The default max heap size is the lesser of 75% of physical memory or 1536 MB. Setting a smaller heap will leave more virtual memory available for other uses.
Thanks,

  • Jrockit crashes due to outofmemory and illegal memory acces

    Hello,
We have been using jrmc-3.1.2-1.6.0 and lately we are seeing JVM crashes after every couple days. Note: We have been seeing these crashes recently , for last 1 year we did not see such crashes.
Following are different issues that we have seen over last few days:
    1. Crash due to illegal memory access
    2. Crash due to out of memory error
    3. Sever becoming unresponsive/Idle
For illegal memory access and out of memory crashes, there was jRockit dump file created and Dump file seems to be pointing at Jrockit libjvm.so module for the exception/crash.
    Any help would be appreciated!

From the command-line (-Dehcache.monitor.enabled=True) you are using some form of caching.
The out-of-memory occured as the JVM was unable the allocate an object: C Heap : 1 memory allocations have failed
Could you check how the live data set is going (or the memory leak detector)
Some concerns with regard to tune a JVM that runs a cache can be found here: http://middlewaremagic.com/weblogic/?p=7083
Note that the example given discusses Coherence, but can be adopted for another caching mechanism as well.

  • JRockit Crashes with empty dump file.

    ---Symptom:
JRockit creates an empty dump file and dies without fully starting
    Dump file looks like this:
         [user@computer some_dir]$ cat jrockit.25058.dump
         ===== BEGIN DUMP ===============================
         [user@computer some_dir]$
    ---Cause:
    ulimit -s 2048
This limits the stack size which apparently causes problems for JRockit.
This limit had been set to workaround a known issue in the Sun JVM.
    ---Workaround:
Use system default stack size or a size larger than 2048.
    ---Environment:
    Java:
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_04-b05)
BEA WebLogic JRockit(TM) 1.4.2_04 JVM (build ari-31788-20040616-1032-linux-ia32, Native Threads, GC strategy: parallel)
    OS:
    Linux DL580 2.4.21-15.ELsmp #1 SMP Thu Apr 22 00:18:24 EDT 2004 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

    Bandas,
The crash most likely happens because you have very little memory left on your system.
In the dump you can find the following message:
"C Heap : 3 memory allocations have failed"
This indicates that three malloc have failed internally. Given additional information in the dump it looks like an allocation did fail during garbage collection internally within the JVM that caused this crash. We have been working at improving the error message on these kinds of complete out of memory situations.
The best thing you can do is to reduce the java-heap size which will make more native memory available.
Another thing you can try if you haven't is to boot up windows in /3GB mode which will give JRockit access to the an additional 1GB of memory. (Your machine seem to have 3GB+ memory so booting Windows with the /3GB switch will allow JRockit to take advantage of that memory)
    I hope this helps

    ===== END DUMP ===============================================================

    Thanks Staffan.
Can you please direct me to where I can get JRockit R27.6? I have spent hours trying to find it on the BEA and Oracle websites but always have ended up with links to either Oracle JRockit Mission Control 3.0.3 or Oracle JRockit Real Time 3.0 which is not what I need.
Looking ahead, does BEA still have "Evaluation Support"? I have been able to report a number of JRockit bugs in the past via this route but things appear to have changed.
    Best regards,
    Svet

  • JRockit Crash : R27.6.0-50_o-100423-1.6.0_05-20080626-2105-windows-ia32

I am still getting the following crash in the latest version of JRockit. I do not have a support contract. However, at http://e-docs.bea.com/jrockit/geninfo/diagnos/crash.html#wp1005354 it says "Note that *even if you do not have a Support contract with Oracle*, you should notify Oracle Support if you have encountered a problem in the JRockit JVM. This way, Oracle can make sure that the problem is fixed in the next release." How do I report this JRockit bug to Oracle Support? I have not been able to find any means of doing this. Please note that I have a self contained test case that reliably reproduces this crash.

Thank you for your reply. I have twice tried to e-mail the test case as requested. Once from my main account and once from a gmail.com account. Unfortunately I have received the following error message in both instances.

Presumably there is some kind of SPAM filter at your end. Iis there another address to which I can send the test case?

Without looking at your actual source code, I must still say this looks like you are trying to write registry keys that you do not have security access to, and if so, you would have to figure out how to modify your own code so that Windows will accept your operation.
If you strongly feel that this is a JRockit bug - can you test your code with another JVM and verify that it works with that JVM?

  • Jrockit crash question

We're testing JRockit and it crashes after a few days,
after somewhere between 2-6 days of operation.
With crash I'm referring to that the process dies
completely and a .dump-file is produced (see below)
The system is pretty heavy used on a linux box
    and memory is rather tight.
    Any ideas?
    Here is a sample dump:
    ===== BEGIN DUMP =============================================================
JRockit dump produced after 2 days, 21:58:27 on Thu Jul 13 20:42:42 2006
    Additional information is available in:
    /home/qgate/qGate/jrockit.25022.dump
No snapshot file (core dump) will be created because core dumps have been
disabled. To enable core dumping, try "ulimit -c unlimited"
    before starting JRockit again.
If you see this dump, please open a support case with BEA and
supply as much information as you can on your system setup and
the program you were running. You can also search for solutions
to your problem at http://forums.bea.com in
    the forum jrockit.developer.interest.general.

    ===== END DUMP ===============================================================

Will try to upgrade JRocket version, but OS
will be more complicated due to internal structures.
I'll get back with results later, one of the problems
is that it occasionally takes more than 6 days until
it crashes, so tests take some time.
Anyway, I'll let you know when I have tested more,
    Thansk for quick reply

  • Jrockit crash on AMD/Fedora in mmParProcessReference

    Hi,
This often happens in startup, but also happens when server has been running for some time.
At first, I had no special GC settings, then support asked me to use parallel GC, but that still fails. (as seen below)
    Anyone run into this?

  • Jrockit crash on opteron, centos4, jboss4

    Hi,
This is my first message in this group and I am not even an active user of JRockit. I have just given JRockit a try for a production application of mine and although running parts of the application correctly, it just gives away Illegal Memory Access error and crushes jvm at my first access to any CMP create or findBy... method.
I have 2 different platforms with the same jrockit and jboss versions. One is opteron 275, centos4, jboss4; the other is pentium m, win xp 2, jboss4. Jrockit and jboss versions are the same at these two different platforms. JRockit runs my application fine in the latter platform, but fails at some point in the first one. It is also worth noting the application runs fine on both platforms when using corresponding Sun JVMs instead of JRockit R26.4.0. The error also existed in the same manner at version R26.3.0.
Java stack trace begin (at my proprieraty code) right after a simple and successful LocalHome lookup of a CMP 2.0 entity bean and calling ejbCreate method of the CMP. The java stack goes into JBoss internals afterwards, where, as long as I understood correctly, to a point where internal JBoss entity locking mechanism come into play.
Here, I attach the produced dump file contents. Sorry, I don't know where to enter a bug report. I hope someone can shed a light on this and I am ready to further investigate the situation on your guidance.
    Best Regards,
    Gokhan Demir.
Here is the produced dump file:

disabled. To enable core dumping, try "ulimit -c unlimited"
    before starting JRockit again.
If you see this dump, please open a support case with BEA and
supply as much information as you can on your system setup and

    ===== END DUMP ===============================================================

Hi back. I have done the experiments:
    1. I have tried the 32-bit Linux/x86 version on:
    a) fedora core 4, pentium 3 800 cpu.
    b) opteron 275, centos 4.3.
On both platforms, the 32-bit version of JRockit runs ok.
    2. -Xnoopt, does not change anything. Crash at the same point.
    3. Different GC strategies do not change anything. Again, crash at the same point. I have even tried the different GC strategies with or without -Xnoopt without success.
    4. I have produced a "-Xverbose:codegen,opt,memory" nohup output, but instead of pasting the last n lines of it, I decided to include it all at a downloadable location. You can download the file from http://igonline.biz/gdemir/nohup.out.bz2 , it is 523,104 bytes.
The reason I am insisting on using JRockit is the observable performance gain upon the corresponding Sun JVM. And yes you are right, I don't have a support contract with BEA.
    Best Regards,
    Gokhan Demir.

  • Help with jrockit crashes (dump files) at MemSystem.getMoreTLAMemory

    Hello,
We've recently started experiencing a lot of instability in one of our new deployments, generating core dumps as listed below.
The server in question is running jboss 3.2.2 with jrockit 1.4.2_03, on Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 3 (Taroon Update 3), with SQL Server 2000.
The dump file is listed below (I've actually listed 2). Any help or suggestions for research would be greatly appreciated. This is in our production environment, so I'm anxious for input. Thank you!
JRockit context dump produced after 0 days, 15:04:58 on Tue May 17 08:22:34 2005
If you see this dump, please send it, along with as much
information as you can on your system setup and the program
you were running, to [email protected]. Please include the
file jrockit.29470.dump from the current directory in the bug
    report. Thank you.
A core file will be dumped into /usr/local/jboss-3.2.2/bin.
Please attach that file to your bug report.

We will try these in test...
Initially we were experiencing JVM hangs (where the JBoss process simply stopped responding) on one of our production servers with 142_05, but no core dumps were ever produced. So we moved the application to a different server that has been running some other deployments without problems (different versions of our codebase and use cases however) to rule out hardware/external configuration issues.
On this server, we did get core dumps.
So, we're not sure if they are dying for unrelated reasons (seems unlikely) or if the _05 just did not generate core dumps properly???
    take care!

  • Jrockit crashs or hangs using kernel 2.4

Hello. I work on an application using jrockit on an old linux os (kernel 2.4.9). The application stops or hangs from time to time. In another forum, I read this :
Think I found out what the problem is.
Henrik Stahl has written an entry about a problem with JRockit on Linux when using the old "thread" library (the clone() system call). The newer (>=2.6) linux kernel is using NPTL.
We are only running an old 2.4 kernel. The blog entry contains a test program, which hangs if the problem is on your system.
    Sure enough, it hangs...
Unfortunatly, I cannot find this test program anymore, as the blog has disappeared... Please, M.Stahl, can-you post this test program again ?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
I saved all my old blogs from dev2dev but hadn't got around to reposting anything yet. Here you are:

  • JRockit JVM crash

    Hi,
We are using JRockit(R) R27.6.0-50_o-100423-1.6.0_05-20080626-2105-windows-ia32 with Weblogic 10.3 on Windows XP SP3 as well as Redhat 5.2.
There is a JVM crash (code generation) when hashCode() in called on a String. Error message is: Illegal memory access. We have tried turning off optimization using -XnoOpt as well -Xnoopt without success. Crash is seen on both the platforms.
Any suggestions or work arounds will be very much appreciated. Dump is given in the end of email.
    Thanks,
    Ajit

    ===== END DUMP ===============================================================

Looks like JRockit crashes when JIT compiling the method com/martquest/entity/roleassignment/RoleAssignmentEntPKey.hashCode. You can try the latest JRockit version, R27.6.3, which is available from Oracle Support or bundled with JRMC 3.1 here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/jrockit/index.html
If that doesn't help, I recommend that you open a ticket with Oracle Support and provide the text dump, the core file and compiled RoleAssignmentEntPKey.class; and ask for a JVM patch.

  • JRockit 1.4.2_04 crashes

JRockit 1.4.2_04 crashes when we run a test. The application is clustered (2 machines).
The heap size is 256MB. The two machines has 3.8GB physical memory each. We have
experimented with using different GC algorithms and using a nursery size, and
different heap sizes 512MB and 256MB. JRockit crashes after only 10 - 30 hours.
We get this error message from machine A in the cluster: ============================================================
Fatal internal error in JRockit during garbage collection.
Try to reduce the heap size.
    mmRealloc(0x357753a8, 128) failed ============================================================
We get this error message from machine B in the cluster:

Here is a test program you can use to test if for JVM leaks memory when creating
    threads.

I don't think so, but I could be wrong.
Your best bet (in case nobody who actually knows answers this) is to
    write a
short test program that starts tons of threads but always keeps the total
    number
of threads at some sane value, then run that for a long time. Or ask
    Vegard for
    his :-).

    each

This memory leak is very critical, since my server will crash afterabout
    a day
    or two.

C Heap : Good; no memory allocations have failed
What can I do, to solve this problem?
Will you need a core dump or the full dump message including stack and code trace?

The crash is during garbage collection. GC crashes most often isn't the
garbage collector's fault, but rather that something has done something
bad to the heap a long time before the actual crash.
They are also hard to track down.
If you have a support contract, go through the official support channels.
If you don't have a support contract, your only option is to wait for
the next service pack (which I think will come out in September, but
don't quote me on that), or try with JRockit 5.0 (which may or may not
    have the same problem).
As a workaround, try running with "-Xnoopt" (which will probably work
around the problem if it's codegen related) or "-Xgc:gencon" (which will
probably work around the problem if this is the garbage collector's fault).
