JRockit Management Console - Exception Count

Hello,
I'm using jrockit-j2sdk1.4.2_04. I download the JRA from: /wljrockit/docs142/JRA.zip. I started the Management Server with Tomcat 5.0. After starting the management console the exception count continuously increases one per second (approx). Is this a bug? Am I doing anything wrong? Can I drill down to see whats happening somehow?
Thanks,
Ralph

You can run JRockit with the (undocumented and unsupported) option -Djrockit.printstacktraces=true to print out every exception that happens. This will probably tell you what the exception is.
One exception every second is nothing to worry about from a performance pespective.

/Staffan

  • Performance overhead of using JRockit management console

    Hi,
I wanted to know what is the overhead of using jrockit management console? We have enabled the management server in our production environment and started the actual console on different windows box.
Is it ok to have the console running in production environment? what kind of performance impact this will have?
I read through BEA docs and it says the performance impact will be negligible, but wanted to check any experience in community.
    Thanks,
    - Pritam.

    Hi Pritam,
I don't remember what the console overhead is, but it is in the order of "low single digit % or less".
We have measured standard JRA recording overhead to 0.5% on SPECjAppServer scores, with optional lock profiling enabled that grows to ~3.5%.
Connecting the Memory Leak Detector increases GC pause times by maybe 10% but has no other impact on throughput.

  • Jrockit Management Console

I have a JRockit JVM running on a linux server. I have the -verbose option set on the JVM and I see where the JRockit Managment Console is started on port 7090.
I want to be able to connect to this JVM instance using the Management Console on my Windows machine. It won't connect. I keep getting an error message about Connection not accepted on the port for the machine in question. Can you connect to a remote JRockit JVM?

    Hi Cassandra,
I suspect the problem may be related to your WLS settings, and I am unfortunately no WLS expert. Could you try compiling and running a very basic java program (that for instance does while(true){Thread.sleep(1000); Thread.yield();}) with the JRockit you're trying to monitor? Use -Xmanagement and -Djrockit.managementserver.address=<ip of interface used for comm. with console>. Don't set a security manager.
    Kind regards,
    Marcus

  • JRockit Management console unable to find classes in Method profiler

I have no problem to connect the console to the right JVM.
All tabs work OK so I can see memory and CPU usage. I can even do Method profiling on plain Java objects like String and Long but whenever I specify one of my classes (full path name) I'm unable to find them.
Any help would be really appreciated,
    MV

    Hi,
We've tried this internally now, and it works as designed - as long as the class has been loaded, i.e. if any classloader has loaded the class, it will be reachable and should show up properly. If the class hasn't been loaded yet, however, it will not show.
For instance, say a class C is reachable by only loader L. Trying to retrieve the methods of C before it has been loaded by L will fail. After L.loadClass("C") or similar has been executed the class should show up.
    Kind regards,
    Marcus

  • Using the management console in less-than-ideal network topologies

I'm interested in using the JRockit management console for investigating
performance issues happening on customer sites. However, the management
console's method of communication with the server doesn't appear to be
very tolerant of tunneled connections (which would be the most
straightforward approach), on account of the management client starting
a new connection with an address and port provided by the server --
which is likely not to be an address and port which, from the client's
location, will actually reach the server.
Even if I were to start a non-tunneled connection from our VPN host
(which is less than ideal, as this system is headless), it would fail on
account of being given the server's primary address rather than its VPN
address. Setting jrockit.management.address at application server
startup isn't an acceptable solution as we may be starting the JVM
before the VPN connection has negotiated an IP, and restarting the
application server every time the VPN resets is an entirely unacceptable
    approach.
If anyone could suggest a workaround, it would be appreciated.
Putting a rework of the management console's connection method on the
TODO list such that some future version of JRockit doesn't have this
issue would be a Good Thing as well -- particularly were it to occur
before IPv6 becomes widely deployed enough to make the issue moot.

I got my first MB about a year ago. Since this is your first MB, I'd suggest that you "play" with it first to get used to it.
After consulting this forum (and since my MB was after all brand new with no important files to backup), I did a "fresh" install from the installation DVD that comes with the MB (instead of deleting unwanted files). You do this by putting the DVD in your MB, restarting it and holding the C key.
I can't remember the detailed installation instructions, but they were quite simple and straightforward, and I just followed them as they appeared on the screen.
I do remember that I opted for the "erase and install" option which completely erases the destination volume and then installs a new copy of Mac OS X on the MB. There is also an option where you can select which programs you want to install (so that you can free up hard disk space).
After installing Mac OS X, you'll have to configure all of your computer settings (just follow the instructions on the screen), install iLife applications (which are provided on a DVD with a new MB) and other 3rd party applications you might be interested in (some of which can be downloaded for free from the internet).
While you won't be using Office for Mac, you may want to try Neo Office (just google for it). It's free although donations are appreciated.
Last but not least, my MB has been trouble free and my overall experience has been very good.
I hope this helps and enjoy your new MB.

  • Management console connection refused

When I tried to use the management console to connect to JRockit on another
machine, I got the error at the end of this email. I downloaded a
license, the application is definitely running and listening on 7091. Could
someone provide some insight into this error?

I take it you are running the JRockit you wish to monitor on a Linux system? On some network configurations (where the machine is not in DNS, or rather when it's host name does not correspond to the DNS name) you will have to set the system property java.rmi.server.hostname to the IP-address of the interface you will be communicating with.

Out from the log you posted I can see it is a windows platform. One common issue with windows and EM is the lack of a fixed IP Address. If this is the case configure a loopback adapter.
In the mean time, you don't need to have checked the configure EM DB Control from install time, you can skip this configuration and perform it later, so at least you have a working database just to start.

I have Sun Fire 480 with solaris 5.9 installed on it. I use XManager 1.3.9 on windows 2000 workstation to connect to it and launch Solaris Management Console (smc). After starting smc I point to Management Tools -> This Computer (sf480dbs) -> Storage -> Enhanced Storage. At that moment Log In dialog appears and I give root user name and password. After a few seconds SMC disappears (exits). If I look at CDE Error log there is the following exception

I am newby to solaris and any ideas will be appreaciated.
    Thanks in advance

Try search the WEB for your display adapter drivers. However, most of new especially intergated graphics are still not supported.
You may try to get it working with xsun, run kdmconfig and specify as display adapter VGA or Super VGA. I know that in some cases it helps.
As well do the same with Xorg and run /usr/X11/bin/xorgcfg, try to find somekind of generic VGA in drivers that are listed there.
As I know, smc runs only in graphical mode.
I saved the settings and pressed F2 for testing. I could see the displayDid you see buttons on that display (something like "yes", "no")?
xsun is very hard to set with most of display adapters and monitors, sometimes it shows only part of the screen, so you might not to see these buttons. However if you see them, press "yes" (or something like that, I dont exactly remember). Then reboot and your computer should start the GUI.

  • Management console problem after installing recommended patch cluster

    Hello everyone.
I just got a new SUN 440 server, it didn't come with the solaris os installed and so I installed solaris 9 12/03 to it. The installation went fine and I could start the management console with no problems at all. Then I went to sunsolve.sun.com to download the latest recommended patch clusters for solaris 9 (this was yesterday Sept.-06-2006), I downloaded the file, checked it with md5sum, unzipped it, went to single user mode and ran the install_patch script. After the patch cluster finished installing I rebooted the server for the patches to take effect, I logged in, tried to run console management 2.1 and it starts OK but I cannot use any services it offers because it says (in the console events):
"Server Not Running: no solaris management console server was available on the specified server. Please ensure there is a Solaris Management Console server available on the specified host and that it is running"
When I click on "See Exception" I get (for a particular service that is... in this case com.sun.admin.fsmgr.client.VFsMgr - for managing file systems):
    java.rmi.RemoteException: Server RMI is null:
    at sun.com.management.viperimpl.client.ViperClient.lookupServer(ViperClient.java:376)and so on...
I already checked that the service is running on port 898 and it seems that there is no other app. using that same port. I also restarted the service using /etc/init.d.init stop/status/start but I get the same results.
I don't know solaris very much and don't know what else to do, please help.
    Thanks in advance.

Well, I guess what you see isn't what you get.
Guess I'm used to the fact USENET just left things formatted the way they were :-O

  • Root password fails on auth to Solaris Management Console Server

I've setup Solaris 10 x86 on a VA linux 1220 server, all is good so far except when I try to create additional users. I am logged in as root, and the root password logs in to the CDE, but fails on authentication to Solaris Management Console Server when I try to use any of the management apps like computers and networks or Users. So I'm stalled at the point where I should be configuring the system. I have been very careful about typing in the password exactly as I use it in the login screen, but it never works in the System Management tools for This Computer. The password I'm using is 26 characters long, is it too long? Or is there a step I'm missing?
    Thanks,
    Brian

One of my famous guesses, but unless you changed the default password algorithm the maximum length of your password is 8 characters, when logging in on the console or desktop, anything typed after those eight characters will be ignored (unless this behaviour changed very recently).
Its possibly that SMC, and its server component WBEM does not ignore the extra characters, which could cause this behavior.
What happens if you try and login to SMC with the root user and only the first eight characters of your password?
Btw, if this was the problem i think there is a way to change the default crypto algorithm to something that supports more characters.

  • Problem with solaris management console

I have installing solaris 9 x86 12/02 on my PC. After start solaris management console 2.1 and after loged in as root, smc display this message:
System Information is not able to connect to the server because the WBEM server daemon does not appear to be running. If it is running, try stopping and restarting it. After restarting the daemon, please also exit and restart the Solaris Management Console.
    SMC server is running ok.
    # /etc/init.d/init.wbem status
Solaris Management Console server version 2.1.0 running on port 898.
    Thank you for help.

  • Jds-help and Solaris Management Console compatible with jdk6u1?

    Hello,
I am running Sol 10 11/06 for sparc on a Sun Blade. I just upgraded to jdk6u1 from jdk5. I installed all required j6 packages, and then installed patches for j6u1. I then used pkgrm to remove all jdk5-related packages (I searched for all packages starting with SUNWj5 and then removed them). Java seems to be working fine.
Now, my Desktop Overview and other java-related help functions do not work. I get this error:
    # jds-help ghelp:jdsoverview
** (jdshelp:826): WARNING **: An exception occured 'Unknown CORBA exception id: 'IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0''
A large jre error log is produced that mentions a problem with JVM:
    # An unexpected error has been detected by Java Runtime Environment:
    # SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0xfc94dd6c, pid=1338, tid=1
    # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.6.0_01-b06 mixed mode, sharing)
    # Problematic frame:
    # V [libjvm.so+0x14dd6c]
Solaris Management Console does not work either, and gives an error that no suitable java 2 version is installed in /usr/java.
Maybe I removed a j5 package I shouldn't have. Which j5 packages are related to the operation of jds-help? Any ideas as to what is causing my problem with jds-help and smc?
Does anyone know FOR SURE that jdshelp and smc are compatible with jdk6u1?
    Thank you...

I got rid of jdk6 and re-installed 1.5.0.11. Solaris Management Console 2.1 works again, so it appears as if smc and Sun Studio 11 are both INCOMPATIBLE with jdk/jre6.
jds-help still does not work, with a jvm error, so perhaps it is also incompatible with jdk/jre 1.5.0.10+.

  • Solaris Management Console hanging

Did anyone have a similar problem?
We are running Solaris Management Console 2.1 on Solaris 10 update 3
It was working fine until recently.
    Now, it hangs forever.
We have no problem in launching it, loging to using our normal account, and switching to sysadmin role.
However, it hangs forever every time we try to do some action with the following error message showing on the terminal screen:
    Exception in thread "Thread-21" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/admin/cis/common/ShowCommands
            at com.sun.admin.usermgr.client.users.UserContent$MyListFetch.listAll(UserContent.java:1133)
at com.sun.admin.cis.common.ListFetch.run(ListFetch.java:284)I am not an expert in Java, but the above message seems to indicate a Sun JRE classpath problem. The symptom in the X-Windows session is always the same: hangs forever when trying to browse users to perform necessary operations, such as adding, deleting, changing groups, and so on.
We have the following JDK installed
    $ java -version
    java version "1.5.0_14"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_14-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 1.5.0_14-b03, mixed mode)
$All the Java symbolic links seems OK
    $ ls -l /usr | grep j
    lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           4 Apr 15 14:10 j2se -> java
    drwxr-xr-x   9 root     bin          512 Jun 21  2007 j2se.old
    lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     other         15 Feb  2 02:33 java -> jdk/jdk1.5.0_14
    drwxr-xr-x   4 root     bin          512 Feb  2 02:33 jdk
    $

I have received the following reply from Sun tech support:
    Hello again Shen,
After I got your email I went back through your files and did an internal search on the breaking of classpath and java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError error.  I found a case that had similar error messages and the root cause was determined to be the order of the patch installation.
    Here is a clip from that case;
    ===
The patch install order for 121308-12 and 119313-19 can have a negative affect on SMC.
Please have the customer try the following workaround:
    patchrm 121308-12 and 119313-19
In this order, patchadd 119313-19 and then patchadd 121308-12
    ===
    Your netinfo files show that you are only up to 119313-16 on your wbem patch. The latest patch is;
    119313-19
    SunOS 5.10: WBEM Patch
    Date:  Mar/27/2008
You may find that updating to this patch will make the edit to the /usr/sadm/lib/smc/bin/smc file unnecessary.
Since your original problems have been resolved, I will go ahead and close the case.  You may want to consider updating to the latest WBEM patch on your next update cycle.
    Thanks,
    Dave
I guess patch 119313-19 solves the problem.
I have launched SMC on a few servers that I haven't changed /usr/sadm/lib/smc/bin/smc file.
    SMC didn't hang.
So, I checked for patch level and they all have patch 119313-19 installed.

  • Services in SAP management console and related window services and process

    hai
can u please any one of you can send me the services in SAP management console and related window services(in adminstrator/services) and process in task manager.
    thanks in advance.
    Naga Laxmi

    Hi Naga,
Please refer to this article for the processes relevant to the Java Instance:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/62/1bf03eae11e16be10000000a114084/frameset.htm
Except the processes of the Java instance you can find several processes of the IGS server and the ABAP disp+work processes.
You can easily find the relevant services by their SAP prefix.
    Hope this helps.
    Best Regards
    Vyara
