[JS CS3] Changing number of columns

Hi all,
I don't suppose anyone has a script that will change single-frame textboxes (800 pages worth, which is why I am looking to script) to 2-column ones? I wrote a script a while back that allows a user to choose a template, choose a Word file, place (and autoflow) the text, etc. It worked fine until today, when I needed to run it on a 2-column template. Since I don't know much about scripting for single-column vs. multi-column, I figure I will run the original script, then call a script at the end that will change all of the text boxes from 1-column to 2. Anyone worked on something like this before?
Thanks,
Matt

So I am aware that I can simply change the columns using Find/Change object, which I will use if I cannot figure how to script this (which I would prefer to do).
I have attempted to modify my usual Find/Change script; using the DOM, I figured that "textColummCount" would be exactly what I am looking for. However, the following does not seem to work:
app.findObjectPreferences.textColumnCount = 1;
app.changeObjectPreferences.textColumnCount = 2;
app.documents.item(0).changeObject();
Seemed easy enough in theory, but when I run this and open the Find Object GUI, it is blank, which means that I am not communicating with INDD. Any ideas?

  • Changing number of columns on master page, does not affect pages?

    I create a master page. say three columns per spread.
    I go to actual pages, flow my type in with the loaded cursor and holding the shift key... it works like a charm... text flows in the three colums, adding pages until the end of the manuscript...
    Now I decide I don't like the three columns. I go to the master page and change to 4 columns via "margins and columns..." under LAYOUT menu
    I go to the pages assuming that any change in a masterpage will translate to the pages... NOT!
    If I go to to my first page, the type is still in three colums...
    All other changes I make on the masterpage do translate to the pages... like say a color bar at the top, the size and font of the folios... BUT NOT if I change the number of columns???
    Can anyone shed light on this?

    You MUST tick the Option for "Master Text Frame" when Creating a new document.
    OR you MUST include a Text Frame with the number of Columns on the master page.
    Copy the text to the clip board
    Delete all page except page 1
    remove the existing text frame.
    Drag the Master A to the page 1
    CTRL or CMD (MAC) click shift the text frame to break it from the master.
    Now paste your text in here
    Insert a new page
    And click the Overload (red cross) button and connect it to the page 2 hodling down shift.
    From memory - hope I got it right !

  • Dynamically change number of columns in report

    all,
    I am trying to change the number of columns in a report dynamically as in this sample(http://actionet.homelinux.net/htmldb/f?p=LSPDEMO:60:11041263091189::NO:::) , can somebody who has this code kindly send it to me or make reference...i'll appreciate

    But Howards solution is easier to follow and works perfectly with a shuttle.
    Define a function like this:
    create or replace FUNCTION item_in_list(p_num IN NUMBER, p_shuttle_name in VARCHAR2)
    RETURN NUMBER
    IS
        l_vc_arr2   APEX_APPLICATION_GLOBAL.VC_ARR2;
        TYPE number_list is TABLE OF NUMBER;
        num_list number_list := number_list();
        x_ret NUMBER;
    BEGIN
        /* checks if p_num exists in the colon delimited list p_shuttle_name */
            l_vc_arr2 := APEX_UTIL.STRING_TO_TABLE(p_shuttle_name);
            FOR i IN 1..l_vc_arr2.COUNT LOOP
                num_list.EXTEND;
                num_list(i):= CAST(l_vc_arr2(i) AS NUMBER);
            END LOOP;
            IF p_num MEMBER OF num_list then
                return 1;
            else
                return 0;
            end if;
    END;
    And then for every column put a condition (Function returning boolean) like this:
    begin
    if item_in_list(1, : p10_shuttle) = 1 then
    return true;
    else
    return false;
    end if;
    end;
    where 1 in my case is the return lov value.
    This is if your shuttle's return value is numeric and display value is varchar2. If both are varchar2 use instr as Howard suggested.
    Its probably not as fancy as the Jquery one but gets the job done.

  • List Box View - Change Number of Columns

    I'm using Box View to display a couple of list columns (Logo, Org Name). This gives me a very nice "dashboard" view of the list which I can drill into using the Org Name link. I've already figured out how to resize the webpart in SPD to get a tiled
    look.
    The Problem: I'd like to display 4-5 columns not just the 2 that Box View supports OOB
    Solution ???

    ISJ - I created a new view on an existing SharePoint list that had Logo and Organization fields already. New "Logo View" shows only those 2 columns. I selected Box View No Labels as the Style - giving
    me the "tiled" look I need
    Unable to upload screenshot - getting message re: until Microsoft can verify my account
    The view is simple - As "illustrated" below
    LOGO
    Org Name (link)
    I'd like to get 3 more columns across horizontally
    Thanks so much in advance for your reply :)

    Is it possible to change number of columns dynamically in table control? if so how it could be done?
    Thnaks in advance.
    Sounder

    You can update the table control in your program, the table control is a structure of the type CXTAB_CONTROL of TYPE-POOLS cxtab.
    There you can hide or display column the same way you do for fields in LOOP AT SCREEN. there you will ahve to LOOP AT <control>-COLS.

  • How do i change the number of columns within a text box?  I need to go from three columns to one.

    How do I change the number of columns within a text box?  I need to go from 3 columns to 1.  The insert column is highlighted and column break does not work for this.

    Pages '09 does not seem to allow layout breaks in Textboxes.
    Pages 5.2 has the same limitation.
    Use multiple linked Textboxes in Pages '09 to get the layout you want or create your layout in a Word Processing template in the document layer.

  • Alv report with varying number of columns

    hi all,
    I am new to abap. I am writing this to get a brief idea of what i wanted to do in system.
    I have to do a report using alv.  The format of the report looks like this.
    acc no     acc. name     amt_sum_april   amt_sum_may   amt_sum_june. ............. total_months
    the colum amt_sum_ depends on user input period(month interval).
    if the user selects 4 to 6 = 3 columns ,if the user selects 4 to 10 = 7 columns
    so on.......
    Anyone have idea how to do it, because in the
    initial structure or itab, the number of columns depends on the user input.. i am stucking here ...
    pls help.
    thanks and regards
    jose

    Hi friend,
    It's very complicated to do that, I'm sure there's a way to do it but I really don't know it. Once I had a similar requirement and I did something else that solved my problem without making a fussy complicated code. I added a colum MONTH or PERIOD (depending on your requirement) and then I make a subtotal by that column. So you need:
    acc no acc. name amt_sum_april amt_sum_may amt_sum_june. ............. total_months
    Now you would have:
    acc no acc. name    month     amount
    In the SORT table, in the sorting condition by MONTH you specify SUBTOTAL = 'X'. So the output will be:
    acc no acc. name    month     amount
    123123        John      2            100.00
    123124        Paul      2            200.00
    Month  2                                300.00
    123123        John      3            300.00
    123124        Paul      3            400.00
    123125        Jane      3            100.00
    Month  3                                 800.00
    123123        John      4            123.54
    Month   4                                123.54
    Total                                      1223.54
    You can change the subtotal text for a more adequate one (if you want). Also if you only need the subtotals you can specify in the layout that only those lines are to be output.
    I hope I've helped, I you have any question let me know!

  • How to count number of columns in cross-tab report

    I have created a cross-tab report and have managed to get the data out as below:
                 Jan     Feb     Mar....(display of months will auto expand) Avg/Mo  Total
    UserA     4          3        4                                                                         11
    UserB     6          1        1                                                                          8
    UserC     5          5        5                                                                         15
    Total       15        9        10                                                                        33
    I want to insert a calculated column (Avg/Mo) into the cross-tab report based on the formula: Total/Number of Months. I used this calculation formula  for Avg.Mo column:
    (GridValueAt(CurrentRowIndex, CurrentColumnIndex+1, CurrentSummaryIndex)/GetNumColumns)
    However, I get the wrong average since GetNumColumns count the total number of columns including the column of Avg/Mo and Total.
    How do i get the number of columns, excluding the Avg/Mo calculated column and Total column?
    PS: I can't use hardcode since the number of months/columns will auto expand the months progress...
    Edited by: jutamind on May 26, 2010 9:27 AM

    ok managed to solve this by slightly changing the formula:
    GridValueAt(CurrentRowIndex, CurrentColumnIndex+1, CurrentSummaryIndex)/(GetNumColumns-2)

    Hi Chandra,
    Based on my research, the error message is only generated by FireFox when the render page is blank in Internet. For some reason, .NET generates a response type of "application/xml" when it creates an empty page. Firefox parses the file as XML and finding
    no root element, spits out the error message.
    Also, based on your description, the other sites are opened correctly, the issue only happened in Central Administration(CA). This means the SharePoint services are working fine.
    Since this issue only occurred in the CA, it might be due the application pool for the CA is corrupted. Please try to restart the application pool for the CA to resove the issue:
    1. Open Internet Information Service(IIS)
    2. List the application pools
    3. Select the application pool used for the CA
    4. Stop it, and then start it again.
    Note, if the application pool is running in Classic mode, please change it to be Integrated mode.

  • How to find number of columns used in a ALV variant

  • Display table with variable number of columns

    Hello Forum,
    I'm trying to build an export view of User Management Engine data. I would like to output a table with one row for every user with yes / no fields indicating membership in each of the available groups. Because the number of available groups might change in the future, I can't hardcode the column names for the groups.
    That is, I call a webservice to compute a table, and I get back a table with a variable number of columns.
    When I try to insert the webservice into my VC model, it complains:
    "Port 'Response' was omitted because it includes nested tables, which are not presently supported by Visual Composer"
    You might be interested to know that the business method of my webservice (for testing purposes) looks as follows:
    public String[][] getVariableSizeArray() {
            String[][] ret = new String[10][];
            for (int i = 1; i <= 10; i++) {
                    ret<i> = new String[10];
                    for (int j = 1; j <= 10; j++) {
                            ret<i>[j] = Integer.toString(i * j);
            return ret;
    Any help is appreciated, and points will be awarded for helpful answers,
    Sincerely,

    Hi Florian,
    dynamic data structures are not supported. You can do this with a workaround. If you know the maximum count of your columns then you can add them to the table and hide/unhide them dynamicly via a formula in the hidden condition. Of course in your WS you als need a fix structure of your columns.
    This is not the best solution, I know so far, but it works. This is just one limit of VC.

  • Dynamic Number of Column in a table

    Hi guys,
    I have a requirement that needs dynamic number of column in a tale.
    It is possible to do this in Adobe forms.
    Thanks,
    Chirantan

    Hello. It of course is possible in Adobe.
    You need to write a simple script using JavaScript or FormCalc to hide or show columns according to some special value. You will work with the presence attribute of the object. E.g. MYFIELD.presence = "visible" or "hidden" or "invisible". You will need to change your subforms content to flowed.
    Use these guides:

    How to generate report with dynamic variable number of columns?
    I need to generate a report with varying column names (state names) as follows:
    SELECT AK, AL, AR,... FROM States ;
    I get these column names from the result of another query.
    In order to clarify my question, Please consider following table:
    CREATE TABLE TIME_PERIODS (

         PERIOD     VARCHAR2 (50)     REFERENCES TIME_PERIODS (PERIOD) ,

    AK CA DE FL ...

    PERIOD2
    PERIOD3
    Total 433242.23 56744.34 8872.21 2324.23 ...

  • ( im new to java) How do I increase number of columns in a JTable ?

    I am dooing a small calculating program in school and can't figure out how to change the amount of columns in a JTable, my programming skills sofar are extremely basic and therefore we are using the netbeans GUI to create our windows. The code generated by the GUI cannot be edited and I have tried to copy paste the code into Eclipse but it didn't work.
    I have a fair idea of where in the code you can preform the things I want but I need to do it in the grapical interface.
    any suggestions are very much appriciated.

    my programming skills sofar are extremely basic and therefore we are using the netbeans GUI to create our windows.Using and IDE doesn't not make it easier. As you've found out it only makes it harder since you can't edit the code and take full control.
    Read the Swing tutorial, it contains plenty of example for building GUI applications:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/TOC.html
    I don't really understand your question, because if you create the table correctly, then then is no need to increase the number of columns. However, the table does support an addColumn(....) method.
