JSObject missing in Forte 1.3
Hello All,
Very tired at the moment, so hoping someone can kickstart my brain, preferably with an answer to a problem that I'd probably be able to solve given 10 hours of sleep...
Using the community version of Forte 1.3. Just built an applet (extending java.awt.Applet) and was trying to access the JSObject (netscape.javascript.JSObject). Lo and behold my IDE has no access to JSObject...
import netscape.javascript.JSObject;
yields "package netscape.javascript does not exist" error.
Tried to figure out why the package is not included in the Forte setup, considering it's such a common package. Failing that I tried to go find the package and class files on the web, hoping to manually 'build' them into my project, but couldn't do that either.
Forte can't even find the package 'netscape' for that matter.
Thanks for any help.
Thank you (dekassegui) for the assistance. You earned the 3 juicy duke dollars.
If you have another moment, how did you find that out (that the netscape package was tucked in the JAWS.jar archive?) The Forte help system, as far as I could find, had no info on that. Was there some other source, such as some general JSDK 1.3+ docs/info. Please direct me there if possible.
Thanks much.

Does anyone knows wether some opten (qoption) is to set in /etc/xlC.cfg or

I also try to use the same xlC.cfg as used from Forte-Support. I deinstall

Does anyone knows what may be wrong with my configuration?

Forte form editor wont work, missing *.form file
Hi,
I have a .java GUI file (subclass of a subclass of JDialog) that was generated with Forte, but the .form file that the form editor needs wasnt checked into CVS. So now I cant open the form editor in Forte (sun one). Is there a way to auto generate a new one based on the *.java code?
Thanks,
Chris
ps. I know this isnt a forte board, I coudlnt find the forte board.
pps. Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched for the answer and couldnt find one...
ppps. I tried a blank file, and I tried a minimal XML document, neither worked (the *.form file is XML).Thanks for the suggestion!
I searched their list, and found this post:
Essentially it is currently impossible, and the GUI must be recreated. dote!
http://www.netbeans.org/servlets/ReadMsg?msgId=87985&listName=nbusers
Richard,
currently it is not possible to generate .form file from java code - because
form editor is not "two-way" (that is why .form XML files are used to store
GUI information). However two-way editing is planned for the future - see
our proposal:
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbusers/msg03322.html.
There was also a related discussion some time before (about "reverse
endineering"):
http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbusers/msg01590.html.
As for converting forms from old NetBeans X2: direct serialization was used
for saving forms sooner, which is not suitable for longer persistence -
because e.g. serialized Swing components might not be compatible between JDK
versions. (That's why we moved to more general XML storing time ago.) So -
to import older forms you should use at least the same JDK version you used
with old X2. I would also recommend you to import it using Forte 2.0, which
could be more "polite" to old form formats (is a bit older than NetBeans
3.1). Once you save form to XML .form file, you can use it in newest JDK and
NetBeans.
Hope this somehow helps,
Tomas Pavek

Subject: [nbusers] Converting a *.java file to a *.form or *.xml
Is there a way to start with a *.java file and convert / generate a *.form
file? (for NetBeans X2 2.1) Or maybe convert / generate a *.xml project
file for NetBeans 3.1?
I had a project in NetBeans X2 2.1 last year and I lost everything except
the *.java file.
Thanks

Re: Missing file in Forte RT v30e0 ???
When I shutdown og startup my runtime server (FORTE V3.0.E.0/runtime,AXP/VMS,
RDB, UCX) the following messages appear on the screen:
File Name FORTETRPSHR does not exist
File Name FORTETC4SHR does not exist
What is that???? The system continues happy as ever, but..Those shareable images are included in the standard Forte kit for VMS,
but
not in your runtime kit. They're used by some of the standard kit
diagnostic
programs shipped in [install.diag.bin].
The command procedure which installs and deinstall shareable images
doesn't
recognize that it's in a runtime installation and, therefore, shouldn't
expect to
find those files. The informational message it reports (above) is
harmless and
your Forte installation will be as happy as ever.

[email protected]You can give the following a go: apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with
Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Missing file in Forte RT v30e0 ???
NI-PAL is a fundamental component in almost all of the driver software for NI. Have you verified that the original location exists:
C:\Program Files\National Instruments\RT Images\NI-PAL\2.7.1\nipalchs.err
Basically MAX follows a set of scripts to copy specific files from the host PC to the target system, in this case it's copying the file nipalchs.err from the host PC and calling it nipal.err in the /ni-rt/system/errors/chineses/ path. If something happened to the files on the host PC (got corrupted, which caused files to become bad or deleted) then the script to copy this file will "break" and cause the error.

Deploying a JAR file from Forte
I have written an application using the Forte CE IDE. Now I want to deploy it to other PCs running JRE1.3, so I used the JAR packager to create a JAR file and I ensured the manifest had the Start class specified. Unfortunately, when I try to run this application via the command line on either another machine or my own (outside of Forte), I get the message
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: <start class name>
I have used the "java -jar" command.
The start class is in the jar file.
The start class name is in the manifest.
I must have missed something, and I am at my wits end.
Has anyone else had similar problems deploying applications from Forte? Or can anyone offer advice or a link to some comprehensive documentation on how to accomplish deployment? The help function in Forte was no help at all.
Thanks.Are you sure that there is a newline after your lines in the manifest?

Conversion of 1.2 JATO project (non-Forte IDE) to S1AF (JATO) 2.0
JATO Team,
First of all, thank you very much for the Studio integration. It
looks very promising in terms of development time consumption,
deployment to S1AS7, etc., etc. It is impossible to observe all
advantages for so short period of time.
The SOAF (JATO) 2.0 is installed on the top of the Sun ONE Studio 4,
update 1 (EE) with JDK 1.4 along with the Sun One Application Server
7 (W2000). Everything looks okay, at least all basic tasks listed in
the "Getting Started" manual (project/view/model creation, basic db
connection, running of a test application with the usage of the
Studio's default Tomcat container, etc.) work proper.
During the installation of S1AF module on the top of the Sun ONE
Studio 4, update 1 (EE) I've got an invitation to convert the
existing project to the new environment. As I realized the only JATO
project integrated/created with Forte IDE is applicable for this auto-
conversion (please correct me, if I am wrong. It could solve a lot of
my problems).
Since we are using JBuilder5 IDE and our JATO 1.2 project is
integrated with this IDE I manually re-created project in the Studio
with its file structure, adjusted the project web.xml file, etc. This
new project looks like a proper one (Studio recognize all methods,
fields, bean patterns, e.g.) except at least one "small" thing. All
java files (project viewBeans, Models, custom viewBeanHelpers a.k.a.
pure java) came up with the same wizard image:java class. Stutio with
the S1AF module reserves the special images (and appropriate studio
properties, of course!) for View and Model. Namely this allows to see
the following structure for a ViewBean, for example, in the Studio:
Modules
ProjectName.ModuleName
FooViewBean
JavaSource
JSPs
Non-Visual Components
View Components
On the other hand, I could add either new View or Model in my
manually converted project and add any View Component or bind the
Model fields, for example. Also, the ProjectModuleServlet has been
converted proper. I tried to convert each View/Model class inside the
Studio to its proper wizard image and failed. Addition of a View
Components (with an appropriate code fragments) via the Studio or
auto-binding of model fields is an essential part of 2.0 and should
drastically speed up the development process as it is designed.
Questions:
1. What I missed in my manual conversion of 1.2 JATO project to the
SOAF (JATO) 2.0 realm? What should I correct in my JATO 1.2
compatible classes (Views and Models) to be recognizable by Studio
wizard (JATO 2.0)?
To be more specific. Some deltas between JATO 1.2 and JATO 2.0 are as
follows (related to a ViewBean):
====++++++++++++++======
JATO 1.2 viewBean extension upon creation:
public class FooViewBeanViewBean extends ViewBeanBase
implements ViewBean
========================
JATO 2.0 (S1AF) version: viewBean extension upon creation:
public class FooViewBean extends BasicBeanBase
====++++++++++++++======
JATO 1.2 viewBean createChild(...) method for one static looks
like:
protected View createChild(String name)
if (name.equals(CHILD_STATICTEXT1))
StaticTextField child = new StaticTextField
(this,
getDefaultModel(),
CHILD_STATICTEXT1,
CHILD_STATICTEXT1,
CHILD_STATICTEXT1_RESET_VALUE,
null);
return child;
========================
JATO 2.0 (S1AF) version: viewBean createChild(...) is renamed (as
a least) to createChildReserved(...):
protected View createChildReserved(String name) {
if (name.equals(CHILD_STATICTEXT1)) {
com.iplanet.jato.view.BasicDisplayField child =
new com.iplanet.jato.view.BasicDisplayField(this,
STATICTEXT1);
return child;
====++++++++++++++======
JATO 1.2 viewBean registerChildren() method for the basic field
types looks like:
private void registerChildren() {
registerChild(CHILD_STATICTEXT1, StaticTextField.class);
registerChild(CHILD_TEXTFIELD1, TextField.class);
registerChild(CHILD_BUTTON1, Button.class);
========================
JATO 2.0 (S1AF) version: viewBean registerChildren() method:
private void registerChildren() {
registerChild(CHILD_STATICTEXT1,
com.iplanet.jato.view.BasicDisplayField.class);
registerChild(CHILD_TEXTFIELD1,
com.iplanet.jato.view.BasicDisplayField.class);
registerChild(CHILD_BUTTON1,
com.iplanet.jato.view.BasicCommandField.class);
Is it correct to say that all existing custom Views/Models
(compatible with JATO 1.2) should be converted to their JATO 2.0
variants to be visible by the Studio?
On the other hand, fast overview of 2.0 API shows that the JATO 1.2
is a sub-set of the 2.0 (BasicViewBean extends ViewBeanBase, for
example). What exactly (only deprecated methods?) should be adjusted
in the project code (1.2), if necessary, to be visible by Studio as a
View or Model component?
2. Where it is possible to find the list of deprecated methods (from
JATO 1.2 to JATO 2.0 versions). It is difficult sometimes to compare
two versions of API docs (1.2 and 2.0) or compare logs between
versions. Also, JATO 2.0 is significantly larger than 1.2 version. If
the later obviously inherits the ND conversion stage (via the
previous versions), the former obviously has additions incoming from
the integration with the Studio (a.k.a. Forte 4.0).
3. What is the current/future Sun/JATO Team policy with regards to
JATO source code access (version 2.0, at least)? The reason of this
question is as follows: in order to display dates formatted on the
screens we adjusted a couple of JATO 1.2 core classes, for example.
The only minimal, absolutely necessary changes in JATO 1.2 was made,
but anyway...
Sorry for so long multiple question. As Todd wrote in his
announcement mail: "We think you will be very pleased with the new
product...". This is exciting moment, I believe, for JATO Team as
well as for any team involved into the conversion of the full size
application/product from ND to J2EE realm with the JATO as
an application framework (1.0, 1.1.x, 1.2.X, and 2.0 finally). The
last step is left in this spiral process to enjoy the ND_Studio
attractive features in the open source environment.
Thank you very much in advance.
Vladimir IvanovI'll get some file templates ASAP and provide them to the group.
As for source code, I'm not sure what the policy is. JATO 1.2 is very
close to what JATO 2.0 is, so that should suffice for now.
The community will be informed when we know more about source availibility.

Craig,
Thank you for the answer. To be honest with you I tried to do exactly
the same: I created the small test project and made an attempt to
adjust the existing *.xml files to the new ones. I got some results,
otherwise I couldn't even see my original 1.2 project in the Studio.
Since I am a newcomer in the Studio, I definitely missed something in
my adjustments. I'll try to observe my changes with the fresh head.
On the other hand, I am afraid that my samples are very pure. If you
could post or send me examples of jatoapp.xml and web.xml files (say
for any of you test project) or excerptions from them with the
appropriate patterns (ViewBean and Model peers, at least), I would be
very appreciated. My mail is: vivanov@b...
In the worst-case scenario I see the workaround: to re-create the
project for one of our releases with the Forte 4.1 IDE and auto-
convert it into the JATO 2.0/Studio world using the Studio
facilities. We must get the current project fully
integrated/converted with/to the Studio (at certain point) because,
first, we expect massive coding with the GUI components involved soon
and, secondly, we have around thousand classes related to JATO only
(and a lot of extras).
Coming back to the question #3 from this post. Now we have full
access to the version 1.2, not only to the JATO 1.2 jar file(I
explained some reasons below). Would we expect the same Sun/JATO Team
policy with JATO 2.0?
Thank you again,
Vlad

It doesn't appear that anyone has responded to this so I am goingto
give you the short answer:
The reason you don't see your ViewBeans and Models showing up with
there "wizard created" icons is because of just that. They weren't
created via the wizards. The wizards create xml formatted filesthat
contain metadata of how/what to generate for the ViewBeans and
Models.
ViewBeans will have a .viewbean fiel, Models will have a .sqlmodel
file (for SQL Models), etc. The content of these files describesthe
code that needs to be generated in the corresponding Java classfile.
So LoginViewBean.java will have a peer LoginViewBean.viewbean file.
The code that is generated is place in protected code blocks thatcan
not be modified in the Studio and should not be modified outsidethe
Studio because the code will likely be regenerated and custom mods
inside the protected blocks will be lost.
Now you can make a JATO 1.2 app appear in the Studio just like aJATO
2.0 app by adding a jatoapp.xml file with the proper content and
adjusting your web.xml properly, but it's much more work to getyour
v1.2 ViewBeans and Models to show up like wizard created versions.
Furthermore, even more work to get the display fields to show up
visually.
The good news is that v1.2 ViewBeans will work with newly wizard
created ViewBeans. And if you do go through the trouble of making
your ViewBeans Studio visible like your wizard created ViewBeans,
adding new display fields visually will work along side yourmanually
created fields.
Try creating a new JATO app using the Studio wizards and then go to
the Filesystems tab and look for the jatoapp.xml file and theweb.xml
file.
I am looking for an email that I have that explains how to do a
partial, manual upgrade.
Also, you will get rid of your JATO 1.2 jar and replace with theJATO
2.0 jar in your lib dir.
Hope this will suffice for now.

Missing Instruments (horn section, trumpet section)
I've just installed Jam Pack 1. JP 2,3,4 are also installed. Now I've indexed my loop browser and all seems smooth. But there is a problem. I took 'Havana Horns' and 'Havana Trumpets' from my loop browser and put them on tow different AU-tracks. The channel strip settings load, but I hear a bleep instead of horns/trumpets. Now the plugin says 'trumpet section' or 'horn section' missing. I even don't find them in my Garageband menu in the EXS. I've reinstalled it, repaired my disk permissions, re-indexed my loopbrowser etc., but still missing. Anyone an idea what's going wrong? How to find them, or how to reinstall them?
Hi,
The reason I ask the above question, is that, in general, it would be
ideal if I could take solo trumpet samples, such as in this example,
and also use them to construct two trumpets playing in unison,
or three trumpets playing in unison. And, make it sound as close
to "professional" as possible.
In this way, similar techniques can be used for the French Horns and
the trombones.
The upshot being that I would not need to use settings which say,
"Trumpets" or "Horns" or "Trombones", because at this stage,
given my limited resources, I do not necessarily know how many
trumpets are actually playing a given line (for instance, I have
SAM free trumpets and I have Pro Sessions Brass, and they do not
specify how many instruments are playing a given note, and sometimes
it appears that the number of instruments playing gets quite large
when the dynamic for the SAM free trumpets is increased).
And, I do want to know exactly how many brass instruments are playing
and control this, so that when I form chords using a mixture of
brass instruments, with some brass instruments doubling the same
note, that the effect mimics reality as far as chord balance goes. In this,
tool, Logic Pro, and a sufficient set of solo brass samples, could
be used as a neat learning tool (such as making sure that in forte,
two French Horns double a note when the other notes are taken singly
by Trombones and Trumpets, and the like). Although, there are other
concerns with forming brass chords, so Logic Pro potentially becomes
a neat test bed for more unusual set-ups and configurations of complex
brass chords.
Also, of course, I'd like a solo brass instrument to sound more realistic
and "not in your face".
Thanks,

Can't install a new template for JSP/servlet on Forte 3.0
I can successfully download the files and finished the installation process from the autoupdate center. But when I restarted Forte, I saw an error " cannot load servlet name: jsp " and there is no new modules installed. Am I missing something?

KPIC problem when creating so with Forte C++
Hi,
I am trying to create a shared object library using Forte C++. The project contains about 80 files, all of which are compiled separately with the -KPIC option set. Whe I try to create the library (using the -G) option I get an error that says something similar to:
Too many small pic references
4785 found, 2048 max, try compiling some modules using -K PIC
Since all the modules WERE compiled with -KPIC and not -Kpic, this message doen't make a lot of sense to me.
What am I missing?
If it makes a difference, this project is being built under Solaris 2.6.
TIA,
Dan S.I see this is an old posting, but for the benefit of anyone else reading this, -G does a -Kpic automatically.
The -Kpic will override the -KPIC.
Try -xcode=pic32 and you will see a clearer error message. -
Forte 6.2 on sparc solaris 2.8.(c/c++)
i am going to install the forte 6.2 on sparc solaris 2.8.(c/c++)
Is it different than sun compiler 4.1 installatino?.
could i get the (major) steps to do this?. i am in a rush situation.
JimDo you have the SUNWhea package on your system? This package contains the headers you seem to be missing. It's on the Solaris 8 CDROM 2 of 2. If you don't know how to add packages from the CDROM, look up "Adding and Removing Software After Installing Solaris 8" in the "Solaris 8 Advanced Installation Guide" on docs.sun.com.

Hi.
Has anyone successfully integrated with LDAP using the C library from
LDAP SDK?
Currently I'm facing a problem when I tried to generate the C++ wrapper
for the C library. The compiler is unable to resolved the data type of
some data structs. This is because the definition for these structs are
not defined in any of the include files provided. According to the LDAP
SDK doc, this is because the fields for those data structs are not
intended to be accessible to the clients.
That is why in my wrapper project, I defined these struct, each has the
property Opaque = TRUE.
The following is the error message:

1. Ops - I DO instantiate it as follows:
[snip]
sw : StopWatch = new;
[snip]
I missed the "= new" in the orig mail message (cut/past from wrong
workspace).
2. LogWriter(deltaT:integer, t1:DateTimeData, t2:DateTimeData)
[snip]
task.part.logmgr.put('| ');
task.part.logmgr.put(deltaT);
task.part.logmgr.put(' | ');
task.part.logmgr.put(t1);
task.part.logmgr.put(' | ');
task.part.logmgr.put(t2);
task.part.logmgr.putline(' |');
[snip]
OK, it's just a quick 'n dirty but it does the job for testing.

Hi Dirk,
1. You don't instantiate the StopWatch object!!! So the
attached code have to
throw a NIL exception. On my PC it does:
"Trying to invoke a method on a NIL object (qqos_StopWatch, 1)."
2. Send the whole LogWriter method for analyzing.

Oh, and the logwriter is just a formatted logmgr.put(deltaT) ,

Any light on this one much appreciated.

RE: (forte-users) search and replace within aTextData
Welll, you're both right. The MoveToChar makes it unnecessary (if a little
sloppy) to MoveNext as long as you've changed the character. thus,
outStr: TextData = new;
outStr.SetValue(inStr);
while (outStr.MoveToChar(' ')) do
outStr.ReplaceRange('_', outStr.Offset, outStr.Offset+1);
end while;
return outStr;
works fine to change blanks to underscores.

If you do not use the MoveNext method to skip beyond the "found" character,
a subsequent invocation of MoveToChar will find the same character, located
at exactly the same offset.
If there is no match, MoveToChar returns FALSE and the current offset does
not change.

Unless I'm missing something here...you needn't go through every
character...use MoveToChar()...as per Help...
while (TextdataObj.MoveToChar (' ')) do
end while;

myText.ReplaceRange('-', myText.Offset, myText.Offset+1);
end while;
or if you prefer verbosity:
while myText.moveToString(source=' ') do
myText.ReplaceRange(source='-', startOffset=myText.Offset,

How about this?? May have to play with start/end on ReplaceRange as I
didn't really test this
Anybody got a better way??
-- replace space with underscore
For x in 1 to myTextdata.LengthToEnd() do
If myTextData.IsSpace() then
MyTextdata.ReplaceRange('_'. Startoffset=myTextdata.offset,
endoffset=myTextdata.offset+1);
End if;
MyTextdata.MoveNext;
