Jsp beginner and dout.

Hi all,
I done some projects in JSP.
I didn't understand why we should use java beans.
Can u tell me what is the use of using java beans in jsp page ?
Why we shlould use ?
What is the necessity ?

By using Java beans we can separate the presentation and the logic, we leads to more clarity and moreover resusability...
for example you can make a bean and within it a methd, that connects to the databse and executes queries, now instead of establishing a connnection in each jsp page, u can simply make an object of the bean, and use its method.
apart from re-usability, another advantage it wud offer is that any changes made in the code where you establish the connection, wud not have to be done for each jsp, it can be done centrally.
these are just some of the reasons why we use beans.

  • What is the difference between jsp :include and server side include

    what is the difference between jsp :include and server side include(request dispatcher include method)????
    i understand that both request dispatcher include method and jsp:include take dynamic data,so when would one use request dispatcher include and when jsp:include.
    Is the usage interchangeable?i believe jsp include is used only for jsp/html but include directive can be used to include servlets ,jsp and html....correct me if i m wrong and
    do suggest if u hav ny other diff in this context...

    The difference really is: in what format do you want your inclusions? If your environment has many Java developers and only a few designers that focus mainly on, say, Flash, that might push you more towards the server-side include() directive. Or, if you have a large set of pages that receive dynamic content that is displayed in a consistent fashion (such as a workflow header area on a page).
    If, on the other hand, you have more web designers, there may be a greater desire to deal in markup rather than Java code. Java developers themselves might prefer to view markup (JSP) that more resembles the eventual output than something occuring in Java code.
    Finally, there are considerations of tiering. While it is totally possible to (and I have previously) implement 'view classes' that render markup or generate layout templates, JSP's offer, IMO, a subtle, psychological advantage. By forcing a developer to work in a different format, markup versus Java source, the separation on view from controller and model becomes a bit easier. It is still possible to make mistakes, but if a developer at some point notices, "Wait, I'm in a JSP, should I be importing a java.sql class?", then the choice to use JSP includes has paid off in spades.

  • How can I stop the execution on a JSP page and start it again

    Hi
    I am making a program that simulates how to manage transactions when accessing a database by using locks. I have run into a problem and I hope someone has the time to help me.
    When a user does an update the transaction commits and releases its locks when the program executes
    <%stmt.executeUpdate("commit!"); %>
    I need to put a break in to stop the program executing this statement, to illustrate the lock is set correctly.
    I have tried to put in an alert box but this does not prevent the rest of the java code being executed.
    I have tried to use prompt boxes, JavaScript functions, but these functions cannot have any java code in them.
    I have tried using the java.swing JOptionPane boxes but this didn?t work either
    I have tried to get input from the user but I don?t know how to retrieve this data on the same page. (As far as I know you have to use submit and even refresh the page or retrieve it on the next page).
    Does anyone know how I can stop the execution on a JSP page and start it again (on same page)
    Mette

    I already have another client (Tomcat jsp application) running and it throws a SQLException correctly when I dont put in a commit=true statement and don't close the database connection.
    But the problem is how to get the code above to stop to illustrate I have set this lock.
    I have tried to use the JOptionPane but because my program is running in a web browser I cannot use the JOptionPane dialog box.
    I have tired using an alert box but it executes the commit statement before the alert box is dispayed. So this does not work
    While (i < 2)
    if( i==1)
    %>alert(The transactions commits when you press Ok); <% //what it to stop execution here
    else
    stmt.executeUpdate(commit);
    I am not using threads so I cannot use the sleep function.
    I am using mysql and have already configured it to detect deadlocks and how long to wait for locks.
    Thanks for your help

The only edits I care about being able to do are: whitening teeth, smoothing complexions/taking away blemishes.  Does any photoshop have these options? I haven't been able to find the teeth whitening one anywhere. Also, I don't want it to lessen the high quality if my photos.  Thank you so much!!

    Hi Erika,
    I came to Lightroom quite recently (in the last month!)  from Photoshop Elements 11. I like the organization features in LR better, but for adjustments such as the ones that you mentioned I would leave LR and go back to Photoshop Elements 11, primarily because that is what I know. I don't use the subscription service, mainly because I already owned and installed the boxed version of Photoshop Elements 11 and adding it to a subscription service with Lightroom seemed redundant. I am sure someone in the community will (or has) comment(ed) that it is possible to whiten teeth and cure blemishes within LR, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. Check out the TV Adobe free tutorials, particularly Julianne Kost's tutorials. She has a good presentation style and you might find the LR answer that you need with detailed instructions.

  • Can a servlet read a jsp file and display its contents?

    Hi,
    I would like to know if Servlets can read a Jsp file and display its contents.. Right now for our website, I am using a html file to be displayed after a successful post operation through the Servlets...
    -Thanks!

    I posted this in another thread.
    Here's some code that reads using a URL. This doesn't work with JSPs as the server executes JSP when it connects but it's useful for other file types. Note that the filename is a URI</h1>This is <code>show.jsp</code></h1>
    <hr>
    <%! String file = null; %>
    <%! java.io.InputStream is = null; %>
    <%
    file = request.getParameterValues("filename")[0];
    try {
       is = (new java.net.URL(file)).openStream();
    } catch (java.io.IOException ioe) { out.write(file + " not found!<br>"); }
    java.io.BufferedReader in = new java.io.BufferedReader(new java.io.InputStreamReader(is));
    String line = "";
    %>
    <pre>
    <%
    while((line = in.readLine()) != null) {
    %>
    <%=line%>
    <%

  • Jsp include and jsp param

    Hi All,
    I have the following:
    <jsp:include page="anotherPage.jsp">
            <jsp:param name="testing" value="sdfasdfsd"/>
    </jsp:include> And in anotherPage.jsp I have:
    <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/tld/commons-log.tld" prefix="log" %>
    <log:dump scope="request"/>
    <log:dump scope="session"/>
    <log:dump scope="page"/>
    <log:dump scope="application"/>
    <h3>
    Test: <%= request.getParameter("testing") %>
    </h3>Not only does this output:
    Test: null
    but I don't see 'testing' anywhere in the dumps! What is going wrong?
    Have I badly misunderstood parameter sending? :-/
    Actually, my assumption was that the include code puts the "testing" variable
    into the request.. 1) where does jsp:param put the data items it
    passes through and 2) if the data item didn't previously exist as a
    request parameter, does it ignore it?
    Any assistance would be most appreciated!
    Rob
    :)

    Depends on the server version you are using. If you are using a JSP 2.0 server like Tomcat 5, then you should be able to do that, as long as you set up the container correctly (to use servlet 2.4 and JSP 2.0 specs rather than 2.3 and 1.2...)
    Is you are using a JSP 1.2 container (less then TC5) then you will not be able to use EL anyware except in JSTL tags. The fix is to use the JSTL tags to do the include:
    <c:import url="thepage.jsp">
      <c:param name="param1" value="${attr}"/>
    </c:import>

  • JSP'S and Packages!!!!

    I'm developing a Web application using Java and Oracle. The system administrator has set up a development instance on Websphere (I don't have admin rights to this server) called MEDS for my projecct. The directory where my jsp files are is: MEDS/MEDS.war/jsp/...jsp files. My Servlet files are in the following directory: MEDS/MEDS.war/WEB-INF/classes. I want to put my database connection string into 1 servlet file, create a package, and then include my servlets and jsp's into that package.
    How can I create a package, let's say MEDSPACKAGE, and include my jsp files and servlets in that package? After I've created that package, what statement do I use in each of my jsp pages to include them in that package that I create?
    Thank you in advance!!!!

    There are also tools that will make this easier for you (such as your IDE or Ant, but each will have a learning curve associated with them. Please, PLEASE take the time to read about the basics in the previous link I posted. You (and your admin) will thank you. :o)

    Please state your problem that you are having more clearly so we can help.
    I looked at your code I here are a few things you might consider:
    It looks like you are putting freely typed-in comments from end-users into an xml document.
    The problem with this is that the user may enter characters in his text that have special meaning
    to xml and will have to be escaped correctly. Some of these characters are less than character, greater than character and ampersand character.
    You may also have a similiar problem displaying them on your JSP page since there may be special characters that JSP has.
    You will have to read up on how to deal with these special characters (I dont remember what the rules are). I seem to recall
    if you use CDATA in your xml, you dont have to deal with those characters (I may be wrong).
    When you finish writing your code, test it by entering all keyboard characters to make sure they are processed, stored in the database,
    and re-displayed correctly.
    Also, it looks like you are putting business logic in your JSP page (creating an xml file).
    The JSP page is for displaying data ONLY and submitting back to a servlet. Put all your business logic in the servlet. Putting business logic in JSP is considered bad coding and will cause you many hours of headache trying to debug it. Also note: java scriptlets in a JSP page are only run when the JSP page is compiled into a servlet by java. It does not run after its compiled and therefore you cant call java functions after the JSP page is displayed to the client.

  • Using a single connection for jsp, servlets and classes

    Hi! I'm building a web site that uses JSP, Servlets and some classes. I use database access in all my pages. I want to open a connection and use it for all the pages while the user is in my site, so I don't need to open a connection with every new jsp or servlet page. My software must be capable of connection with various databases, like SQLServer, Oracle, Informix, etc... so the solution must not be database (or OS or web server) dependant.
    Can you help me with this? Some ideas, links, tips? I'll REALLY appreciate your help.

  • The content type for office excel 2007 in jsp page and the mime-type in  we

    Hi,
    In my system MS Office 2007 is installed. I am trying to generating excel sheets from JSP page by setting the content type "application/vnd.ms-excel" in jsp page and as well as in web.xml file. I am getting the below message
    The file you are trying to open, 'xxxxxxxx.xls', is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?
    Then finally the excel file is opening and displaying properly. If in my system MS Office 2003 is installed , then the above message is not coming.
    I have changed the content type according to Excel 2007 <%@ page contentType= "application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet" %> and in web.xml file the mime type to
    <mime-mapping>
    <extension>xlsx</extension>
    <mime-type>application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet</mime-type>
    </mime-mapping>
    even the content type is changed according to office excel 2007 , i am getting the same above message.

  • Jsp:plugin and codebase

    I have a JSP with the following jsp:plugin code:
    <jsp:plugin type="applet"
    code="com.package.Applet.class"
    codebase="/application1/applets/" width="50"
    height="50">
    </jsp:plugin>
    Web applications, which run this applet, specify different codebase, such as /application2/applets/,
    /application3/applets/ and so on.
    Unfortunatelly JSP specification doesn't allow dynamic codebase in jsp:plugin and we create a new JSP for
    each new web domain to specify another hardcoded codebase attribute.
    Could you please advice a trick to generate codebase attribute at run-time, to deploy the same JSP in all
    applications.

    Well, then I would just put in the object/embed tags yourself. You can get whatever the plugin tag writes by just using the tag once with static values and view the source in the browser and copy it out, then replace whatever values with scriptlets (or other taglib tags) to fill in the correct values.

  • Flex and JSP tutorials and articles?

    I found one that doesnt really answer most of my questions: http://cookbooks.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=showdetails&postId=7746
    I am looking for more information on setting up flex applications that can sit ontop of JSP pages and utilize the code to interact with the back end data base to display, gather, send and retrieve data. I like the whole "not having to refresh when new data comes in" concept.

    It depends on how Flex is getting the data, and how it's generated. If you refresh the page, then the Flex app will be reset, and won't have any knowledge of previous data. One thing you could do is store the data on the server and access it via some web-service calls (eg AMF or REST). The server could manage the user's session, store data, and generate or retrieve previous data.
