Junk letters in foldernames
Hi
I use the default apache in OSX server 10.4.9.
I have a ImageFolio4 installation that uses nothing but CGI-Perl, everything works fine except one thing, ImageFolio creates folders that are named by the user from within the webapp, but does not let me use non english characters.
When i try to create a folder naming it with non english letters i get an "invalid argument" error message, if i name the folder with english letters there are no problems.
I have one installation of ImageFolio4 on OSX server and one on IIS, and im frustrated to have to say that this problem only occurs on the OSX install.
If i create the folder manually on the server, and then update the folder from within the webapp, the folder is added, but with junk letters instead of the swedish chars ö ä å.
I have noticed that when i try to make folders using Terminal, ö ä å is not visible in the terminal window, just numbers, but on the server the folders are visible with the correct names, but in terminal the ä ö å is allways showed as numbers.
Is there a connection here, cant OSX have folders created with non english letters except when i use finder?

i feel you can do this by creating an image of the letters in paint and then follow this link

Edited by: Mehwish on Apr 15, 2011 10:57 PMYour codes are very nice and easy to use but i am unlucky and i am not able to send attachment
before i was not able to send even junk text of photo but after using u r code
i am able to send that and i am near to solve my problem because of your nice guide and codes...
create directory backup as '/u01/dump';
grant read,write on directory backup to mail,scott;
and goes this instead of picture.

The name of the attachment is like: 'edghafbe' right next to the icon.

Anyway, in the BLOB writing portion you have to create a temporary LOB and load your file into that temporary LOB and the write it into chunks.
Something like
DBMS_LOB.OPEN(v_src_loc, DBMS_LOB.LOB_READONLY); --Read the file
DBMS_LOB.CREATETEMPORARY(l_blob, TRUE); --Create temporary LOB to store the file.
v_amount := DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH(v_src_loc); --Amount to store.
DBMS_LOB.LOADFROMFILE(l_blob, v_src_loc, v_amount); -- Loading from file into temporary LOB
/* Writing the BLOL in chunks */
WHILE l_pos < l_blob_len LOOP
DBMS_LOB.READ(l_blob, l_amount, l_pos, l_buffer);
UTL_SMTP.write_raw_data(v_connection_handle,
UTL_ENCODE.BASE64_ENCODE(l_buffer));
UTL_SMTP.WRITE_DATA(v_connection_handle, UTL_TCP.CRLF);
l_buffer := NULL;
l_pos := l_pos + l_amount;

Do we have any solution for clearing the buffer….
Also this error doesnt occur all the time.........
Sometimes it comes, Sometimes it works fine
The error is introduced during execution of the statement
XmlDom.writeToClob(domDocument,clString);

Arabic letters are displayed as junk character in PDF preview
When we try to view (HFR Financial reports in PDF preview Arabic letters are displayed as junk character. While the same is shown correctly in HTML view.
Oracle EPMA version we are using 11.1.1.3, please provide some solution on this issueThis could help if you are connecting to essbase or planning:
1.Set the ESSLANG environment variable on the Essbase server to
ESSLANG= Arabic - Saudi Arabia (ISO)@Binary
2. In Financial Reporting, you must use the Essbase APS ADM driver rather then the Essbase Native ADM driver. Set the driver in \Hyperion\products\biplus\lib\fr_global.properties by setting the parameter
UseEssbaseEDS=1
3. In \Hyperion\products\biplus\lib\fr.env, set the ESSLANG environment variable as follows:
ESSLANG= Arabic - Saudi Arabia (ISO)@Binary
4. Re-start the Essbase and Financial Reporting services. -
I updated to iOS 7 last might after being prompted by Apple. This caused me to lose many useful features of my iPad2. First I find that Siri has disappeared. When I contacted Apple support, the guy who took my serial # and model # verified things on his end and said emphatically that I should have Siri, but could't help me find it. Another rep simply disconnected me after seeing that she was unable to help me with the problems. After wasting hours with these people and waiting several minutes for their promised supervisor to come online, I was again disconnected by them. My second major problem I wanted solved was the hard to read fine and faint print. I don't have good eyes and with iOS 7 on my iPad2 I am now unable to read the top row which has the list of websites in avery faint and fine print. I could read everything on my iPad until yesterday evening when I made the mistake of updating to iOS7. Till yesterday evening I loved my iPad but after that update to iOS 7 last night it is a piece of junk for me. Hope there is help somewhere out there to restore Siri and other useful features of iOS 6 or get iOS6 back on my ipad So I can use it again. The chat with apple support has not helped at all as they themselves did not know that Problems like the ones I mentioned to them even existed with this iOS 7. I want my iOS 6 back!!!! CAN ANY ONE HELP !!!!! Also how can I reach anyone in Apple who is knowledgable and also has some authority to do something about it.
Outside of the contact number for that you've already used I don't know another way of direct contact. Here are some things that they may or may not of had you try that might help you. If you will go to the settings app and pick general on the right-hand side you will see accessibility. Within that you can adjust a text size make the text bowl you can also increase the contrast. You can also adjust the brightness and control panel.
As for Siri again in the settings app under general you should see Siri on the right-hand side with the switch to turn it on. If that is turned on and you're still having issues
Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

Arabic data shows Junk in Excel when exporting from oracle Apps Screen.
I have an Oracle Apps 11i with Arabic language enabled.
When i export some screens from Oracle Apps to Excel from my Desktop the Arabic letters dispalys as Junk in the Excel.
Do i need to apply any patch?
Regards
ArunArun,
You do not need to apply any patches. What is you application/database characterset? What is the application release?
Does this happen on the clients or on specific ones only?
Please set Windows environment variables as follows:
- Go to Control Panel > Regional Options
- Standard and formats: Make sure it is set to "Arabic (<Country>)"
- In the Advanced tab, choose "Arabic (<Country>)"
- Check "Default user account settings"
- Click Apply and retest the issue -
Dear all,
I am generating XML file from Oracle table. I have some junk characters in table. It is not really junk. My system has been used in different countries. The data are entered in international key board. So the letters are showing as junk in few places. It may happen in future also.
I want to filter those junks before i convert into xml. Since the XML is not understanding those characters.
How can we do that ?. Thanks in advance.Hello,

its urgent.First of all there is nothing URGENT in the public forum. Everybody is waiting for the earliest reply and everybody has the same priority and importance. Don't use these type of words in future please.
Secondly the problem you said. Search in the registry (in developer home's folder) for keyword NLS_LANG and replace the current value with AMERICAN_AMERICA.AR8MSWIN1256 then try to run the application again.
Also check the below link...

Junk E-Mail Folder Disappears with Snow Lepoard
On my Exchange Server, there is a folder called Junk E-Mail. My Exchange server puts spam into that folder. When I used Apple Mail with Exchange in the old Leopard implementation, that folder appeared and I could review junk mail. When I upgraded to Snow Leopard and created a new Mail setup to use Exchange, it pulls in all folders on my account EXCEPT for Junk E-Mail. So, now I cannot see Junk Emails. Is there a solution to this?
i was also somewhat confused by Matt's solution suggested since I too have enterprise-grade exchange service and it has a good spam filter that i would like to keep on.
i did, however, investigate further and found that i can find the junk email folder using the 'Move To' submenu in the 'Message' menu in Mail. just navigate there and you should see the 'junk' folder in the list somewhere.
i have only tested this on my own macbook pro and not sure if it would work for the rest of you but i am using exchange 2007 features pretty smoothly in Mail.
i also confirm that junk emails are included in mail searches.
on a partially related note, msgFiler is a nice little mail plugin that helps move my messages but also is a way of quickly navigating to any folder by entering the first few letters instead of digging through menus and it brought up my junk mail folder when i typed 'junk'.
finally, after you do find the 'junk' folder on the folder list, it should show up in the sidebar after using it once but i am guessing it disappears once you restart Mail. -
How successful is the junk filter?
For quite a time I was very proud of the way the junk filter seemed to get rid of mail that had found its way past the server's filter, but recently I seem to get more and more junk. One of the typical problems that beats the filter is the use of random letters to stand for a username (eg. fgfsjdfhsk). Is there no programming that can put an end to this?
Is there no programming that can put an end to this?
Yes, there is - you should take a look at JunkMatcher - it integrates with Mail and if you set it up correctly to match your needs, it will be extremely efficient in catching spam (I get a false negative about once in two months and I do get a lot of spam...)

Some of the songs I bought from iTunes will not sync to my iPhone. They show up on my phone, but the letters look faed and I can't play them. How do I fix this? I tried restoring my iPhone and it didn't work.
Sorry, I meant the letters look "faded" not faed.

Thunderbird fails to send email when "Scan email for junk mail" option is checked in Server Admin
I have 2 clients that need to send mail through my server, one Mac and one Windows. The Mac uses apple mail and the Windows machine uses Thunderbird.
Apple Mail will send fine, it is set up for "Use Default ports 25, 465, 587" and "Use SSL" and "Authentication: MD5 Challenge-response".
Thunderbird refuses to send and I don't even see any errors showing up in the Console on the OS X server under smtpd entries.
If I uncheck the "Scan email for junk mail" option on the server, then Thunderbird will send fine.
Thunderbird is set up as: "smtp port 587 (default)" "connection security: STARTTLS" "Authentication method: Encrypted Password"
May or may not be relevant: I use virtual domains as well as aliases.
Server: Mac OS X Server version 10.5.8Solved it, looks like maybe the smtpd settings for sasl authentication may not have been correct. I followed everything in http://osx.topicdesk.com/content/view/38/41/ the "Frontline Spam Defense for OS X server" guide and now can send mail just fine from Thunderbird Winodws and from Apple Mail.
