K7n2 + xp 2200 overclocking

hi guys
i am new to all this o/c stuff so i am wondering if anyone can please tell me where i am going wrong . i have a k7n2 mobo with a xp 2200 cpu . i have moved my cpu fsb from 133 to 145 mhz. if i go any higher than this my pc crashes on me . is there anything other than this i should be changing ? to make it go higher than this . and if so what should i change next .
thanks for any help i may get  :]

I recently made an attempt at pushing my XP2200+ up, and of course when I tried to increase/change the muliplier it would'nt even post.  So I started bumping the fsb up, I hit 141 and the pc locked up during benchmark. But the temp was at 41-43C.  I am now running it at 137 FSB on an MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU with mem settings at full speed timings..  If I lowered those Memory settings would I possibly be able to go farther on the fsb? Or maybe even just switched them to SPD?
Also, my memory is PC2100 only.  I had some pc2700 once, but I got jacked on the deal (it ended up being a samsung chip/3rd party board maker stick), and it would only accept the lowest/safest timing settings in bios, so I ditched it and stuck with my 512 PC2100 which allowed more flexibility IMO!!
Anyway, that Ram is probably whats limitting me?? Its running fine with the current 1.86Ghz speeds, but I was really hoping to get it up to at LEAST 1.90....

  • K7N2 - L bad overclocker?

Hi all.  I just got my 2400 mobile in and am having problems overclocking.  I cant get past 8.5x200 with a vcore of 1.55.  My friend says its my mobo and thats its bad at overclocking but I think hes wrong.   Does anyone here have problems overclocking with a K7N2-L?  What can I do to overclock my cpu more?  Jumpers?  Anything?
    I need help.
    Thanks in advance.

I reached my max.   My mobo with its 1.8v vcore max and Geil value mem are holding me back. With some better mem and some more voltage I know I could go higher. With my temps I see no problem hitting 2.6 or 2.7., but I cant go any higher.
After some tweaking I found a sweet spot at 12.5 x 200 = 2500mhz with a vcore of 1.8v.   Idle temp is 38C and 44C after an hour of Far Cry. I would highly recommend anyone who wants a nice oc to get the 35w 2400+. Even me, a person with the worst luck and only decent parts was able to hit 2.5ghz.

  • K7N2 Delta - best overclocking memory?

    Hi guys,
I am running my system at 2500MHz after getting my new Mobile Athlon 2500+ and it's very sweet, but to do it, I was forced to change my FSB/RAM ratio to 6:5 from 1:1, as my Infineon memory is unstable at FSB200 (even though it's rated at PC3200).
    I have two questions:
    1) What timing should I be attempting to run my memory at? Could the timings being too aggressive explain my problems? I've tried running at 8-3-3 CAS 3.0 at DDR400 and it's a little flaky. Should I try 9-4-4 CAS 3.0?
If I do this and manage to get the memory stable at a slower speed, will my performance suffer more than leaving it at 6-2-2 CAS 2.5 at DDR2700?
    2) What is the best, most stable overclocking RAM that I can get for this board? I was looking at the Corsair PC3200-XL memory (Extreme Low Latency). It's rated for 5-2-2 CAS 2.0 at DDR400 speed:
    http://www.corsairmicro.com/corsair/products/specs/twinx1024-3200xl.pdf
Does Corsair RAM work with this motherboard? According to the compatibility lists it *SHOULD* but I'm looking for opinions from folks with Corsair kit.
    Thanks (as always)!

btw lordban what do u cool with?
I'm using a X-Dreamer II case from Aspire with 5 case fans, a Vantec Spectrum fan card, a HardCano 12 unit (to control 4 of the 5 case fans) for case cooling.
For CPU cooling, I'm using a ThermalTake Extreme Volcano 12. It's noisy at full RPM, but effective. I run it at 4500-5000RPM and it seems to work fine.

  • Help needed - Computer Dead

    Here is the setup:
Athlon XP 2400+ with Coolmaster HS+F
    512 MB Corsair 3200
    MSI K7N2 Mobo
    No overclocking.
My system has been fine for a couple of months, then 2 weeks ago I bought the new ram and it was fine for two weeks. Woke up this morning and the screen was all corrupted, though ok Windows XP has crashed, rebooted and my PC speaker started going like a police siren (I am assuming this is not the all is well siren!). I thought something might be over heating so I reset the CPU FSB to 100 and reset the bios. Computer booted, got into bios and then crashed in the bios. Now my machine wont boot. With the CPU FSB at 100 it just doesn't startup (Monitor never kicks in) at 133/166 the warning siren goes off.
Somebody please give me some suggestions here!
The mobo manual says nothing explaining what the warning siren is trying to tell me!

Same thing happend to me turned out that the PSU went bad get borrow a PSU and try it.

    ASUS A7V333
    256 DDR 333MHz Kingston RAM(Latency 2.5)

I think there is some problem with my configuration, but yet I couldn't find anything.I tried alot of things, checked all drivers they are all up to date.(Via 4in1 drives:latest hyperion thing,NVidia WHQL certf. 40.72. etc..)I enabled fast write, enhanced agp performance control from bios and eveything I know from display settings i.e. Antialiasing disabled, d3d tweaked and still the problem persists.
I need someone who can help me under these hard and strange conditions.. ?(

I have to agree with sqersch, I've run at 60 mhz and got way more than 60 fps, refresh rate doesn't have alot to do with card performance.  Sure you get a fps boost when you increase the refresh rate but nothing significant and it certainly doesn't "cap" the frame rate, it can just improve it slightly.  Besides about the only thing you would want to increase the refresh rate for is so that it would be easier on the eyes, (less flicker).  As for the guy complaining about his benchmark, what exactly do you expect to get with an mx version of a geforce 4?  I'm not saying that score isn't wrong, just wondering what score you hope to achieve with an mx card.

HELP! have 2100xp with xms 2700 corsair asus ti4200 8x. been having problem running Windows XP. It won't load properly. Loads slow and run's like snail. Started with single ddr with generic 2700 didn't work and won't load windows.  Also, used single ddr of mushkin, corsair, and kingston. After re-install XP, XP runs with these three but was slow go. Got dual 2700 and still slow to a crawl. I'm out of solutions. What do I need to speed things up to it's original spec's.  ;(

Just wondering, did you have a problem at first getting Windows XP to even load and it would just reboot itself? Check my post (K7N2 and 2200+) maybe we have (had) similar problems? I'll take any advice you can give me. Thanks. Sorry I'm not much help.

  • Overclocking XP2400+ on K7N2-L

I have a K7N2-L and an XP2400+ CPU, with 2x256MB Twinmos PC3200 RAM. I bought this CPU/RAM combination as I read in several reviews that the XP2400+ was a good overclocker and the K7N2-L allowed the adjustment of CPU multipliers without modification of the CPU. So far I have managed a modest FSB overclock up to around 150MHz FSB but so far the only multiplier setting I can get the board to POSTwith is 7x. The board allows manual multiplier adjustments from 7x to 13x, (I assume the standard multiplier is 15 for the XP2400+). Do I actually have to modify the CPU to unlockk the multiplier or is there a bios setting/jumper that I am unaware of that enables unlocking? I would ideally like to get the FSB up close to 200MHz with a multiplier of between 10 and 12, mainly to take advantage of my fast memory.

Hey, sorry to disturb this talk,
i have also a k7n2g-l with amd xp 2400 and an Hac-v81 xdream,,,,
But i have supertroubles with the installation of win xp on this, is it possible to tell me wich driver you used to get it started right without graphical troubles etc...
i want to use the onboard card because my old gforce 2 wouldn't help i suppose,....
I would be very glad if i can have the driver version and are they from the MSI site or Nvidea....

  • K7N2-L Overclocking 1700+ B Core Help

    Hello all,
    I've got a K7N2-L and a 1700+ B core (1.6v), I've managed to overclock it to 12.5*166 with the bios set at 1.625v(bios reports 1.67v).
But I can't seem to break the 166fsb barrier, I've got two (dimm 1+3) pc2700 generic cl2.5 ram modules in running at 2.7v (2 2 2 3). Everything runs totally stable at 166 but at 168 or 170 I get an unstable system. I reduced the memory timing very low settings when testing just incase that was a factor.
I've tried reducing the multiplier to 11.5 and increasing the fsb but no luck, increasing the cpu core voltage to 1.8v and 12.5x180 to jump right over the 170 fsb range but a failure again. The failures are 3d mark 2001 failing and going back to the desk top. But with 180fsb I couldn't get it to boot fully into windows.
With 166 fsb I just use the stock cooler and it's stable, with all the other tests I use a big desk fan pointing in the open case as well and the cpu temp stay under 40 degress.
I can't help thinking that if I can get 166 at 1.67 volts stable the cpu has a lot more in it and something else is limiting the fsb (esp as I can't get over 166 with lower multipliers). Are they any bois/cpu hacks that allow me to access the higher multipliers so I can at least try and get my cpu MHz up?
    My system specs are:
    K7N2-L with 1700+
    Coolermaster 3000+ amd approved
PCI raid card running 2x80G stripped disks
MX440 (not over clocked) soon to be a 9800 pro when it arrives
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks!!!

    Hi wonkanoby,
Yep I've upped the voltage by 0.025 as well, it is showing at 1.66-1.67 too, that seemed to do the trick to get 166*12.5.
I've found someone else who has the same ram and can't get it above 166, so it looks like the ram is the problem. If the ram is the problem do you think.
    166 memory, 200 fsb and multiplier 10.5 (2100MHz)
    overall would be slower than
    166 memory, 166 fsb and multiplier 12.5 (2075MHz)
I've read that having the front side bus and ram frequencies synchronised makes a big difference so it could well be the case that 166Mhz for fsb and ram is the better option.
If this is the case does anyone know anyway to access the higher than 12.5 multipliers? I'd like to try 13 or 13.5 multipliers. I've had a good look around the internet and other forums but I can't find any clear information on whatI need to do to get the higher multiplier ranges.
    Thanks.

  • Can't overclock a K7N2 Delta2 LSR?

I have the K7N2 Delta2 LSR v1.0 board with 3GB of PC2700 memory and Athlon XP 3200+ processor.  The PSU is a Antec 400w.
I have tried several different overclocking methods, and none seem to work.  The D.O.T. didn't work at all, not even in Private mode.  The computer hangs when it gets into Windows.  I tried just increasing the FSB to 202MHz with the memory on "Optimal", and Windows still hangs.  Am I doing something wrong, or does this processor just not want to go any faster?
    Bryan

The nforce2 chipset likes the memory controller and the CPU FSB clock to run at the same speed.
So by increasing the FSB to 202mhz, you're also increasing the DDR clock to 202mhz (which equals DDR404). As your memory is only rated as DDR333, its no wonder its failing.
Athlon XP3200+... which one, the 333FSB or 400FSB version?
Also, as you are running 3GB, also be aware that best performance is gained from using just two identical matched sticks in dual-channel mode.

  • K7n2-l and athlon xp 2200+

i have a locked athlon xp 2200+.  i believe it has a thouroughbred a core.  my question is, will a k7n2-l motherboard be able to unlock my processor?  can i change the multiplier in the bios without connecting all the bridges in my processor? :D

sorry about that.....wonkanoby was very much correct......The 2200 and higher XP's have to be wire tricked into getting the lower multipliers.................look here.......unlocking the 2200
I have also herad of people bending a small wire and placing them in the corresponding vid pins on the zif socket instead of wrapping the wire around the cpus pins

  • Overclocking K7N2 Delta L advice please

I was wondering if someone could make my life a little bit easier and help me out with overclocking.
I read the sticky about it, but I am still confused about the voltage etc.
    I have a K7N2 Delta L motherboard,
    Athlon XP+ 2400 cpu
    512 stick 333 MHZ ram
    512 stick 400 MHZ ram
    Powercolor Radeon 9600Pro video card
What is the safest settings in bios and motherboard jumpers to go to in regards to overclocking?
I am kind of hoping that someone else who has the same setup has overclocked and they can just tell me what settings they have got so I can try to copy lol.
I know it's cheating but I don't feel very confident so I thought it would be safer this way
    Thanks in advance

Also you can try raising the vcore slightly and maybe get a few more MHz.
This one I could'n't do because the CPU VCore Select & CPU Ratio settings where both set to "By H/W" so I didn't know where to start with that one..
I was just wondering, how far can I go with overclocking or this about it?  I mean like I decided I wanted to learn how to do it and all that but I never really had an idea how far I can Overclock it to.
In the bios move down to where cpu vcore says  By H/W  and use the page up/page
down key to select the vcore you want.  I would raise my fsb 1MHz at a time till I
reached max fsb before I'd raise the vcore but as you raise the vcore you will also
get higher cpu temps.  With the multiplier @ 15 I don't think you can go too much
higher on fsb with that cpu.  I'd go as high as I could remaining stable then back off
a couple MHz. In my opinion, with a cpu locked multiplier, the 2500+ Barton with 11
multiplier is the best overclocker. Most will do 200 fsb at stock 1.65 vcore no sweat.
Then the 2500+ in a sense becomes the 3200+

  • K7N2-L Stable Athlon XP 1800+ Overclock

I overclocked an Athlon XP 1800+ Thoroughbred on a K7N2-L today. It works albeit with slightly elevated temperatures (ambient temp of 59 C with fluctuating temps spiking at 63 C with peak CPU usage.)
The exact formula is: Athlon XP + FSB speed of 166 + High Performance Bios settings = 1.92 GHZ.
    1.92 Jigga-watts?
    1.92 Jigga-watts!
Try it, you might like it.
Stable as stable can be, although I had to reload Video Card drivers and a few video dependent programs (PowerDVD, DIVX for instance) because I had a jagged diagonal spike distorting the center of the screen originating from bottom left corner to upper right corner. After re-install(s), that hiccup is a memory. Problem solved. No need to run out and get an Athlon XP 2400+ yet.

"When you tested the sandra with the 2 sticks.....you did use banks 1+3, or 2+3 right...?"
    Yes, banks 1 and 3.
Thanks for the tips on the fan...I also am of the opinion that I'm running a little hot, but at this point I'm feel lucky I'm even up and running, so I'll worry about an aftermarket fan later, although I have both a Tt Volcano 6Cu+ and a 7+ just sitting on my workbench shelf. That 7+ sucked all the power out of my old KT266-Pro2-RU board, so it's sitting the bench. Too loud anyway.
Yes, I am completely aware that a 333 FSB is not an overclock. What I'm trying to explain is that I haven't been able to and probably can never achieve maximum DDR bandwidth with my two current PC-2700 sticks unless I configure the board to a 166x2 FSB. In fact I tried it today on an old 1800+ Palamino processor with no luck. I was stuck and had to flash the bios, jump J10 to 100 FSB...blah blah all the stuff you're supposed to do when you overclock and can't post, and fixed the problem and reset it just fine. I'm gonna sit tight until I can upgrade from a 133 FSB CPU to a 333 FSB CPU, which should be just next month.
My options for such an upgrade are either with the month's old Thoroughbred core 2600+ 333 FSB, or with the new Barton core 2500+, 2800+ or 3000+, which are obviously 333 FSB capable chips too.
For a good article on the Barton core see: http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030210/index.html
I figure I'm gonna keep this motherboard for another year or so until I can afford a Clawhammer Athlon 64 system...if it ever comes out. In the meantime, I think nForce2 is the way to go even though I'm on my third board in a 7 days.
BTW, has anyone heard MSI's manufacturing numbers?...some 100,000 boards a day? I'm trying to verify that.

  • Overclocking and the MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR

    Hi everyone,
I wanna overclock my system. But, I've experienced several problems.
Problem one: When i try to set my memory timings manual (3-3-3-8)
in the BIOS, CPU-Z, Everest etc shows CL2.5.... instead of the CL3.0 that I've selected in the BIOS.
The second problem: When i raise the front side bus to 200MHz FSB, and doing the same with the memory speed (200MHz, 1:1 Synchronous with the CPU..)
I get many BSOD's in Windows... So I've tried to raise the RAS#to CAS# delay to 4, the same for #RAS Precharge (also 4) and the Cycle Time (TRAS) at 11.
But this also doesn't work... The memory voltage is already at 2.7V, and it can't get higher...
How can i get this board working on a FSB of 400MHz (200) ? On my previous board (KT600) I've reached the 2.31 Ghz without problems, totally stable.
    Anyhelp will be appreciated.
For my specifications, see my signature.
Edit: Oh, i see that i have placed my topic in the wrong place, sorry for that.

Thanks for above suggestions. But, as I said before,  i can't change the CAS Latency of my memory... When i set the CAS to 3 in the bios, it stays at 2.5.... (checked with CPU-Z, Everest, CPUID) Is this a known bios-issue?
And my memory is designed to run at 200Mhz CL3.0-3-3-8.... I guess that's the thing that causes the instability... is that possible?
And before i flash my bios, I'd like to know if this solves my problem. As i said before, on my previous motherboard, i ran 210Mhz without a problem... totally stable..
    Thanks.

"When i set the CAS to 3 in the bios, it stays at 2.5.... (checked with CPU-Z, Everest, CPUID) Is this a known bios-issue?"
possible, with newest or modded should work normal.(never had similar issue) also underpowered memory stick can cause instability, with modded BIOS should be able to setup mem. vcore to 2.8V which is arround 2.76V(mobo is undervolted), also your Kingston required at least 2.75V to work property at ranked speed with default timings.
"When i set the CAS to 3 in the bios, it stays at 2.5....And my memory is designed to run at 200Mhz CL3.0-3-3-8.... I guess that's the thing that causes the instability... is that possible?"
    yes its possible.
"And before i flash my bios, I'd like to know if this solves my problem. As i said before, on my previous motherboard, i ran 210Mhz without a problem... totally stable.."
your prevision mobo is much different.
    follow this tips:
go into BIOS and Enable "Super Stability Mode", setup "FSB:RAM" Ratio in 1:1, setup "CPU Interface" to Normal,
    apply memory timings as follow:
    CAS: 3
    TRCD: 3
    TRP: 3
    TRAS: 9
    and memory vcore(Voltage) to 2.8V.
get a copy of Memtest86 and create bootable diskette or cd-rom(can be found on memtest site), boot from diskette, when memtest started select and use test number 5 only, that can be done via this keyboard shortcuts from a memtest ("c","1","3","5") ensure you can loop/pass test 20 times without errors.
post back results if there errors come report how much per pass is it. if there are errors go back into BIOS and start pull back FSB by 10Mhz (etc: apply 190FSB) and re-test with memtest. Ensure you have DIMM1 is filled with memory stick(close to CPU socket).
post back results. also check memory sticks individually to ensure there is no malfunction/defective stick.
also single/dual CH differences on Nforce2 is around 1%.

  • MSI k7N2 Delta ILSR,AMD 2700+ & MSI GFORCE FX 5600 VTDR 128 Overclock

Guys, I have the above mentioned GPU, Mobo & CPU (Box edition with AMD FUN). Can anyone tell me the best way to overclock them at the highest possible mark?

    StormRider,
    Best way to overclock???? Humm......
Start with a big Case, then get a large Brand Name Top of the Line Power Supply. Then get a Ultra High Performance Heatsink and Fan for your CPU, I prefer a Peltier, others prefer Water. Then put a bunch of fans in your case and make sure you have all your wires run so you get great airflow. Then get High Performance RAM for overclocking, I use Mushkin Level II Black. (If you can still find any.)
Last thing that many people forget, have your computer in an air conditioned space.
Then go have at it. Overclock like crazy.
    Take Care,
    richard

  • K7N2 Delta ILSR and XP2500+ - strange overclocking problem

    Relevant configuration data:
    - K7N2 Delta ILSR (with 7.6 BIOS version)
    - Barton 2500+ (AQXEA)
    - Arctic Silver 3 thermal compound
    - GlobalWin CAK 38 (7000 rpm DELTA, all copper)
    - 2x512 MB Corsair XMS cmx512 3200c2 (it should run 6-3-3-2 at 200MHz on AMD systems according to older documents, and on 6-3-3-2.5 at 200MHz  on AMD systems according to newer documents)
    - PSU Enermax EG465P-VE (430W)
    - Gigabyte ATI Radeon 9800Pro 128MB
    - Battlefield 1942 game
    I have 2 seperate problems:
    1. When I try to set my proc on 13x166 (Barton XP3000+) BIOS won't recognise that settings and it gives me real-clock rate of 833MHz (and no name, just "Athlon XP"). Just a note, when I set proc to be XP2600 or XP2800, everything is great in BIOS and in real conditions (Windows, Battlefield). I had 7.4 version of BIOS and I tried with new 7.6 version and nothing has changed (as I suspected). Can someone help me about this ?
    2. Second problem is a bit more serious.
I'm having problems setting my proc to work with 100% stability on 200MHz FSB speed.
    This is what's going on:
    - Behaviour in Windows is pretty much good (no random restarts).
    - Sometimes (on rare occasions) blues screen appears when I'm in windows or some program. Last time when it appeared it said something about "memory managment". I tried to lower memory settings but nothing seemed to be better.
    - If I try to freshly install windows on 200 MHz FSB in 98% of the cases installation will be abrupted (blue screen or resets) or it won't even start to install.
    - What's bothering me the most is this: Battlefield 1942 is crashing on regular basis. Sometimes it can hold for 5 minutes, sometimes 20 minutes, sometimes half an hour. But on certain moment, puff, and I'm out in Windows. Not a computer restart, just it throws me on desktop.
I've been checking the temperature on regular basis when I'm playing. It is always low.
I've tried to raise core voltage all the way to 1.8v, but same thing happens.
I've tried to lower memory settings, but I get same BF crashing.
I don't know what else to do or what other component to acuse for instability.
Can somebody please help me ?
    Thank you in advance !

Nope, because I am changing multiplyers without probs. The only multiplyer that doesn't work is 13x.

I drove the memory according to the Corsair's specs, and I drove it on lower settings also. No change.

also you may wish to go up to 2.7 volts for your ram, and 1.7 volts on your processor to add stability, remember sometimes you have to go up gradually a step or two at a time and keep it there for a day or two before you reach your top OC.
I might try upping ram voltage but that doesn't sound good, because it IS DDR 400 memory (an excellent one too !).
It's not like I'm trying to drive it over 200MHz. 200MHz is this memory's normal frequency.
