K7n2g-l

Hi, i have a little problem with the sound.
I set to use the 5.1 option, i listen the front speaker good, but the others, rear, center and sub speaker, very, very low.
I tried with the NVIDIA and REALTEK drivers, and i can´t loud the sound.
WHY?????????? ?(
MSI K7N2G-L
BIOS v3.7
AMD XP2000+
2 x 256 DDR
On-Board NVidia GF4
Windows 98SE and WIndows XP

K I wasn't sure and that's why I asked cause I have the K7N2G-ILSR version...
You wouldn't get any advantage out of the -L version having the bracket because that version doesn't support the Dolby Digital 6channel audio...
Your board is MCP2, the -ILSR is MCP2-T
• nVIDIA® nForce2 MCP2 or MCP2-T Chipset
- AC97 Interface supporting up to two concurrent codecs
- Ultra ATA133 for the fastest hard disk throughput
- USB 2.0 EHCI/1.1 OHCI controller
- FireWire® and USB 2.0 for the fastest digital connectivity (MCP2-T only)
- Audio Processing Unit(APU) encodes audio in Dolby® Digital 5.1 format for full surround sound effects (MCP2-T only)
• Realtek ALC650 6-channel audio
- Dolby Digital 5.1 format (with MCP2-T option)
And if that isn't quite what you were asking, you'd have to go thru your MB reseller where you bought the MB and he'd have to go to his distributor and he'd have to go to MSI to get the connector so yea you can get it but I doubt that they'll do it for the 5 or 10 bucks that the connector costs when just in the time it would take for them to get it they'll have spent more money in time and they won't make a profit so...why they don't buy options for stuff I'll never know...

  • K7n2g-ilsr IGP graphics interference

When using the IGP, I see moving diagonal lines on my desktop.
I don't think it's a memory compatibility issue since I don't experience any reboots, lock-ups, crashes, etc. I suspect it's the PSU but I need a second opinion on this.
I already experimented with the bios settings with no luck, even on default.
    Here's my specs:
    XP 1,700+
    MSI K7n2g-ilsr
    2 pcs. twinmos 512 ddr400 (twinmos chips)
    Enermax 330 watts (+3.3v=30A, +5v=32A, +12v=12A, combined +3.3v and +5v= 160W)
I know that the 12v rail is too low, but like I said, I don't experience reboots and everything, just the annoying interference.
I haven't got this problem whenever I use a separate agp card (geforce2mx)

Your combined is low as well...should be more like 200W to get enuff power to this setup...

  • Got a problem with K7N2G-L

the problem is the MB doesn't seem to be disabling the onboard video like it should when i attach an expansion card into the agp slot (using an MSI G4MX-TD8X).  i've tried everything i can think of to get the dang thing to post... or at least show it posting.  after i attach the card, w/out reseting the bios or anything, i can hear it post and start windows etc., but just no video.  i returned the last vid card thinking it was a problem with it, but alas when i tried the new one same thing was happening  ;(   my stats on what is currently installed as far as hardware is at the bottom.  but basically my question is this, am i supposed to disable the onboard video via jumper or something? or is it like i think and auto disables it upon connection of expansion card?  possibly a bad  MB (i really hope not as i did a dang good wiring job)?  i emailed MSI support to no avail as of yet, course it's only been like 24 hours, but you'd think they'd have an 800 number or something to contact them.  :(  i did update the bios last night but haven't had a chance to try out installing the vid card yet.  will post back if that ended up working.
    okay, for the specs:
    350 Watt Enermax
    MSI K7N2G-L
    AMD 2200+ XP
256 Kingtston 333 ram(have another 256 to install after i get things ironed out
MSI G4MX-TD8X (at least trying to install this, using onboard vid atm)
    D-Link NIC
board is set to 133FSB, if it's in safe mode it doesn't post at all ?(  hehe.  of course it will post in higher, 166 is highest i've tried and it ran stable, but put back down to 133 for troubleshooting purposes with the vid card :(

i've thought about that, but with my drives attached and everything, i'm hovering around 200W total... did the math.  but did forget to mention, so far using the onboard video (even with FSB overclocked to 166) haven't had any stability problems with the motherboard, which is why i haven't stripped it out yet to go get another one.  i checked stability w/ 3dmark2k1 and about a 2 hour session of JKII running everything at full, even with quincunx enabled but got choppy a bit with that in parts. and btw, you'd assume correct with me moving the monitor adapter.

  • How do I install a Northbridge fan on K7N2G?

Long story short. I ordered a K7N2G-ILSR from a vendor.
The ILSR comes with the optional Northbridge Mobo fan.
The L does not, but is basically the same board, and supports the optional fan.
MSI is being kind enough to ship me a fan for free, despite the fact that it was not their fault for the mix-up.
(The original vendor is of no help. Possibly brain-dead.)
    I just have one question:
How do you remove the little heatsink on the K7N2G-L and install the Optional fan? I noticed a couple of pins/screws
holding the heatsink on. Do I have to remove the board from my case and tap these pins out, or do they just unscrew, or..?
    Detailed info/instructions needed and appreciated.
    Thanks. 8)

    Thanks for the replies.
I'll try just mounting the fan first, then if
I don't see what I think is a good temp.
drop, I'll take the old heat-sink off, apply
some Artic Silver, and mount the entire HS/F.
Thanks again to MSI for sending me the fan.
Even though is was not MSI's fault that one of
my vendors sent me the wrong board, they went out
of their way and sent me a fan,
    at no cost to me.
You don't often see companies these days that
actually give a rat's ***, about things like this.
Recieved the fan yesterday right to my front door.
By this small gesture, MSI made me a surprised and
happy camper, and for them an assured repeat customer.

  • USB 2.0 problem (K7N2G-ILSR and HP PSC 2210)

I'm using a K7N2G-ILSR mainboard in combination with a HP PSC 2210 all-in-one printer. The printer sometimes stops printing and produces an error. The print can not be deleted and I have to reset the computer.
I'm using the latest HP drivers for the printer, Windows XP Pro with all Windows Update fixes and the latest upgrades for teh mainboard (Live-Update).
Is this a known error and is there a fix/workaround (can I set the USB in the BIOS to 1.1 only (instead of 1.1 and 2.0)??
According to HP it is related to the chipset and the USB driver. Until now I have not find a document explaining the problem for this mainboard and a proper solution.
    Does anyone have an idea?
    Thanks for your help!
    Cees

Cables are cables still at this point in the game so it could be that you have a faulty cable but there are no special 2.0 cables to buy...
Never been a big fan of the All-in-one printer/scanner/copiers, I've had nothing but problems most of the time when my clients buy them...but they still buy them...if you think about it they really only came out just over a year and a half ago so that technology isn't quite mature yet...
I doubt that it has anything to do with your setup directly, it sounds like a driver issue and one that's clashing with another driver that's used for something else in your machine...no I don't know what cause I don't know what you are using in your system heheheh
I had a client that bought one of the newer photo printers, why I don't know cause he doesn't even own a digital camera, but he just had to have one, but anyway, it would error out everytime he tried to print to it...I reloaded his system and systematically added in one component at a time...writing down everything I did...when I put in his ATI All-In-Wonder card and loaded the software for the TV part lo and behold when I printed I got the error again...couldn't fix it for my life either with all the newest drivers from ATI and HP...went backwards in time for older drivers to no avail...the guy stiffed me on the bill for over $1000.00 and I've not heard from him again so I can't tell you if he fixed it or not at this point...

  • SATA controller on K7N2G-ILSR "supports IDE"

I have a K7N2G-ILSR with the onboard Promise 20376 Serial ATA controller, which supposedly supports using the IDE3 port as a separate IDE channel to connect hard drives and CDRoms and whatnot. I have not been able to simply get the SATA controller to work with IDE. I have tried connecting a hard drive and optical drives. With the single hard drive, instead of simply booting like it should, it tells me that no array is defined and asks me to create one. Since I have data on the hard drive already and don't want to risk erasing it by "creating an array", I didn't push my luck. With optical drives, it is the same story, except that of course I can't create an array with an optical drive, even if I try (nor does the setup utility let me). I am also thinking about purchasing a SATA adaptor for the hard drive, but am afraid that it is going to ask me to create an array again (again, fear of losing data). So, how do I get the IDE3 port to work as advertised? And how would I get the SATA working in a non-RAID configuration?

    They don't advertise that...
    On-Board IDE
An IDE controller on the MCP2/MCP2-T chipset provides IDE
HDD/CDROM with PIO, Bus Master and Ultra DMA133/100/66
       operation modes
Can connect up to four IDE devices
     Serial ATA Interface (Optional)
    Support 2 serial ATA plus 1 ATA133
    - RAID O or 1 are supported
    - RAID function works w/ATA133+SATA H/D or 2 SATA H/D
    • Connect up to 2 Serial ATA devices and 1 ATA133 device
This is from the website, I don't see that they say you can use the SATA as regular IDE drives...they are part of the raid controller period...the misconception comes by thinking it's used like we use a regular IDE but you have to create an array as I said in order to use them...you can select one of the raid drives to use as a boot drive via the BIOS but you have to enable the drive in the raid setup before it's accessible thus creating a seemingly IDE device...I don't have any SATA drives here atm so wasn't able to test this part of the MB yet...and I've beat my board into submission now and have to RMA it from doing so much testing with it...if I do get another one I'll see about getting a SATA drive and see what it does when I load the drivers for the raid in a non-raid setup and post my results...I agree that they don't explain it well either but I've never thought the manuals were written the best for most boards out there since English isn't their first language...something gets lost in the interpretation unfortunately heheheh The raid doesn't support opticals at all so that's not an option here...
    Hope that helps...

       -5V   = .6A
       -12V  = .6A
       +5Vsb = 2A
I am fairly confident in all of the components and installation...had to trouble shoot for a while just to get to POST--it was a problem w/running 3 x 1 Gig DDR 22700 at 333 Mhz.
Win XP Pro will NOT boot properly--when I start it, I sometimes see the boot screen, and it will hang; or see it very briefly followed by the "Sorry for the inconvenience. Windows did not start properly" bluescreen and a system reboot...
I've tried reinstalling the OS which hangs between the installation and checking your components processes.
    Possible causes:
    * The RAM is bad, if so, PLEASE advise.
    * The PSU is deficient on several power rails, if so, recommend figures PLEASE.
    * Any other ideas, PLEASE advise.
Assuming that the RAM, PSU and all the other components are not an issue, PLEASE advise as to what else could be the problem.
I've had a similar problem happen in the past when installing Win XP Home on another Mobo, but worked fine when I installed Win 98 2nd Ed.
Maybe God or a MSI Tech will reply--they're tech support seems to have ignored me...my RMA window has passed w/the reseller.  Thank you in advance to those who post.

As for the manual and RAM...screw that...Quote
also do you mean 3 gigs of ram total when you say 3x1gig if so your board only supports 2 gig of ram when it is pc2700...
Yes, I mean 3 Gigs total.  I read on Soyo\\\\\\\'s website that it\\\\\\\'s MoBo\\\\\\\'s do that and will only support 3 Gigs at 2100, hence me underclocking my RAM at 266 Mhz.  It would have been really useful if MSI\\\\\\\'s documentation would have said the same thing.  3 Gigs at 2700 is the reason my system would NOT even POST.  Where did you see that it only supports 2 Gigs at 2700?[/COLOR]
That's not unusual that you would have to do a fresh install of your OS to get it running properly. As far as RAM these boards are very sensitive to types of RAM so You may have trouble with your sticks. As far as 3 1 Gig sticks, unless you are doing some very heavy graphics it is probably overkill and you will find better performance with two sticks running in dual mode. Try it and see which way it runs better for you!

  • K7N2G generating error message when trying to reinstall xp

K7N2G motherboard is generating a error message when we tried to reinstall XP. it had XP PRO and when you boot up it would give youa Scan Disk check and then a blue screen would appear and the message ( Child Device is operating in Fat 32 and Software based System. plus other things and then said must reboot. and the same process would start all over again.) We formatted the drive and then tried to load 98 back on so we then could reload XP. but as soon as we get 98 on it comes up with the same error message and we totally lose all CD and DVD Rom support windows 98 will not recognize the CD Roms and were stuck. because we can't get XP back on. and then you reboot and you get the same error messages again. • Woohoo, MSI K7N2G-L up and running

Well after much trepidation/waiting/stuffing around I finally got a working cpu installed into my mobo.
And it all worked first go, with ABSOLUTELY no problems.
    I'm now running the following;
    MSI K7N2G-L
    AthlonXP 1600+
(borrowed from a mate whilst I save for my 2400+ or better)
Using the onboard vid/sound/LAN (all working fine)
2 x 256 MB Hynix (Hyundai) DDR333 el cheapo RAM
    80 GB Seagate 7200RPM
    4KUS 52x52x24 CDRW
    400 Watt Ritmo PSU
Temps so far on cpu are 55c idle 60c load.  CPU and HSF need a big cleanup with some acetone, but that's for later this week.
As for DDR RAM compatibility, everything seems fine.  I haven't tried pumping the system up to High Performance settings in BIOS or tweaking the RAM settings.  However I don't think the cheapie RAM will like any changes from the default settings.
Anyway I'll try to get the specifics of the Hynix RAM and post it to the RAM sticky guide on this forum.  Is there a way to show the specific details of your RAM in Windows?

Go update your BIOS now as it will drop those temps to where they should be or close...
You can use something like SiSoft Sandra to get the specific specs on your memory or go look it up on the mfg's website...
Glad it all worked first time...mine did too!

  • BIOS failure at startup K7N2G-ILSR

I have just put together a new machine with a K7N2G-ILSR motherboard, an Athlon 2500+ processor, and an IDE disc, not much more than that. At startup, I get the first MSI screen, but when the BIOS screen is then shown, it disappears after about half a second. Instead I get a new screen "Scanning IDE drives", which after about a second gives the message: "No drive attached to Fast Trak controller, The BIOS is not installed".
I cleared the CMOS, and then I actually got the BIOS screen (because it said CMOD CRC error), but the next time I restarted the machine I was back with the same problem as before.
It is possible to enter BIOS setup if I press delete at exactly the right time when the BIOS screen flicker, but I have not find any configuration that would help. Further, after I cleared the CMOS, now my processor is not recognized in detail, it just says AMD Athlon. Before I did that, it actually said Athlon 2500+, how do I make it identify it exectly?
I would really appreciate any advice.
    Thanks!

Well, the manual does not say a word about the "fast trak controller" is, and it is not clear what kind of drives that are referred to in that error message. Is this only about Serial ATA drives, or what?
What I have now figured out is that the POST screen (where it is said that DEL will take you to bios) will never appear if the full start MSI screen is enabled, which it is by default. The manual does not say a single word about this, but it refers to the POST screen as the first screen, where one can invoke the bios setup.
