K7t266pro-2-ru Terrible Mobo! MSI Tech support non existent

I have a K7t266pro-2-ru ver 2.0 and it will not boot from floppy to dos. Therefore I cannot update the bios nor load an operating system. Tried Update 2 but they have you make a floppy.( which this board won't boot from. )Wrote to MSI Tech support several times(You think they would know the problem) never getting any answer. Think I will get an Asus or Biostar Motherboard and throw this one away. Tried everything including loading hard drive on another computer. Works then(Sort of) No way to disable bios protection.(Not even in the list) Anyone interested in a motherboard CHEAP

Its the Motherboard, and i too am having problems with my MSI at the moment for different reasons, which is also leading me to a decision for another motherboard (Gigabyte/Epox are mobo's i have never had ANY problems with, and if there were any, there is excellent support for both of these)
I don't think it is a faulty motherboard, since other ppl are claiming to have the same problems with this model motherboard. Msi need to program Bios a little better than they're doing, since i think it may be a bios problem. X(
I'm not 100% sure it's a bios problem since there have to be others using this board without problems. I have tried different versions with no success. I would suspect a design flaw. Note this board has been discontinued. When I use Si Soft Sandra it did not even have the 1.44 floppy in the list of supported floppy drives. On mine the floppy drive works after the O/S gets up and running but will not boot to the floppy. I got disgusted with tech support and bought a Gigabyte GA-7vrxp. Works great, but now I have a very expensive K7T266 Pro-2 RU paperweight. Not even sure if I want to send it back to get fixed. Seems like throwing good money after bad considering the lack of support. Hate to bash MSI but I'm calling it the way I see it, after many attempts to get any kind of response what so ever. I will try a different brand of floppy as Bas suggested but I don't have much hope.

  • MSI tech support

I paid good money for my system and one of the components is the Neo2 - LS 865PE.  I use WindowsMe with all the updates and all the MSI supplied drivers with all onboard stuff and a flawless Radeon 128 meg.  I cannot put my system in S3 mode because half of the times it does not come out of it.  MSI tech support insulted me by telling me to activate S3 in bios and install OS after.  That is their answer. My answer to MSI is you make GARBAGE.

you know what? someone suggested that he upgrade his OS and he went crazy over that! most of the posts were revolving around this and I was laughin about it, thats all! I could care less if he kept using Windows ME for the rest of his life. The point IS that he came in here to RANT AND RAVE! NOT ask for help and its OBVIOUS.  When someone doesn't want anyone's help and they make it obvious in a place where we are SUPPOSED to help others, then they shouldn't be here. THE END! Don't tell me to be quiet, THAT is just asking for a NEGATIVE response.
As for the problem, the first thing I would've suggested is that the OS doesnt handle S3 well... 2nd thing would've been the PSU, maybe its too weak.  Notice that no matter what advice he was given, he basically said "its MSI, nothing else" or something along those lines...
sorry about my posts in this thread, it was light hearted (and probably still my mistake to post something light hearted, again I apologize), but now it got too serious. This thread should be deleted as it doesn't benefit anyone here.

  • MSI Tech Support is Outstanding

I was having issues with my 890FXA-GD65 not booting at all with the 1866 memory setting.
I knew there was a small chance that I could get it to work with a BIOS update, so I emailed tech support.
A couple weeks later they emailed me back with a new BIOS to try. It still didn't work.
They sent me another to try, and again, and again, for about 3-4 months.
Finally they sent me BIOS revision 8 (beta), and voilla, it works.
They could have blown me off because my Bulldozer CPU isn't officially supported by AMD on this white socket 890FX motherboard.
They could have made other excuses like blaming it on the RAM not being on the QVL, or that 1866 is an overclock, ect.
Instead, they worked on resolving the issue and did not quit until the job was done.

    Thanks for your report, damric!
And yes, your experience shows, that it makes sense to stay in there and keep talking to MSI Technical Support, trusting, that (even though tons of users are contacting them with all kinds of issues), they will usually take the time to eventually test and reproduce a given issue.  Patience is called for, of course, but usually this patience is not a bad investment.

  • Official word on what is "System Temp" from MSI tech support

I e-mailed MSI asking about what System Temp was actually reading on the motherboard. Here is the reply:
MSI Tech. 02/10/2008 System temp is recording the actual system temp inside your case which the sensor is mounted near the inside of the mb which sensing the system temp.
Okay...so I guess the sensor is mounted near your electrical outlet...

LOL - That is too funny.
but the system temperature sensor is just a diode mounted on the motherboard to measure air temperatures inside the case.  not sure exactly where, but most I've noticed are around the CPU area.

  • MODS: delete or lock. Board reing RMA'd per MSI tech support. Thank you.

History:( Built two identical systems )
1:  RMA'd board for a bad BIOS flash. Was sent back with old BIOS. Discovered M-Flash in BIOS. Once you understand it, it works better than any other way I have tried, to update BIOS.
2: Booted long enough to load windows, then dead! Tried Processor from other system, booted fine.
3: RMA'd Processor. AMD found it to be dead sent me a new boxed one.
4: Put system together, would not boot.
5: Swapped Processers around, new one worked fine in other system.Bought an Athlon 64 3500+ locally used for $15 to test setup, it works fine. So board will not boot with 940 but works fine with3500.
6: RMA'd board with this info.
7: Got board back, put in case, wait for it, NOTHING! Will not boot!
8: Unplug floppy, DVD, 1 hard drive and 2 memory sticks, NO boot.
9: Strip from case, put on anti-static mat, NO boot.
10: Reinstalled Athlon 64 3500+, been running overnight no problems running Avira antivirus scan.
Anyone have any ideas before I try to get MSI to understand this.

What a mess you've been through! I'd go through the roof.
If my understanding is correct older processor works, newer not. So that is what we should concentrate our efforts on, right? The new processor.
    Damaged, unsupported, underpowered, incorrect seating.
Damaged is a bit early to tell, it might be the last thing we discover.
Incorrect seating doesn't sound likely, since the other works.
Underpowered, well PSU seems to be alright and I believe you can't have a short for one processor but not the other; hope you checked the power cables are in completely.
Unsupported, the 940 needs the latest BIOS update http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1552  After the update, pull power cable out, wait a little and then clear CMOS.
Mod: You know of course you can n o t  reuse the thermal paste on processor and heatsink. It has to be carefully removed, and then reapplied some new stuff. Bas likes cheese, but I wouldn't recommend that for a beginner - there might be holes in the cheese.

  • Elements 12 will not run until it is "updated". All update attempts fail. Apparently, no tech support actually exists for this product.

Photoshop Elements 12 recently installed. It requires an update. All attempts (10+) to update the software have failed; It downloads for an hour or so, but will not install. Adobe should work for the CIA; your success at hiding live employees from the public is outstanding.

reset your preferences by holding down shift-ctrl-alt (win) or shift-cmd-alt (mac) while starting pse 12.  if done correctly you'll see a confirmation dialog.

  • LOB support non-existant

From the JDBC 8.1.6 driver readme:
"1. There is a limitation regarding the use of stream input for LOB types. Stream input for LOB types can only be used for 8.1.6 JDBC OCI driver connecting to an 8.1.6 Oracle server. The use of stream input for LOB types in all other configurations may result in data corruption. PreparedStatement stream input APIs include:
    setBinaryStream(), setAsciiStream(), setUnicodeStream(),
    setCharacterStream() and setObject()."
Since the 8.1.6 Oracle Server doesn't even EXIST yet as far as I'm concerned, this amounts to "we don't support or acknowledge the existance of LOBs". Come on Oracle, if you're going to market the heck out of something, at least have it working first. And when it doesn't work, FIX IT.

  • Support Non-Existant?

Okay so, going back over this, I sent a ticket with old skype support about a charge back to get an account restriction lifted off of my account... they could not help me and I could not give them the information required because the information has been lost for years... come on support it should be an easy simple process of point & click to get the desired result... I have been the account holder for years and I don't feel like it should be necessery just to make a new account to get around this problem that means I would have to re-add 80+ people just to be on my friends list once again.
Back to the problem, Old skype support before Microsoft took over required that I have the payment information on hand, due to various circumstances my credit card had to be re-issued several times and that resulted in a different number. I do not have the old card number on file. However the card was attached to the bank account I have today, and I asked the bank what it would take to get a print out of all transactions going back to 2009. Guess what, I would have to pay the bank a significant ammount just to get that information, not worth it but come on support is going to expect me to have to pay over $100 just to get that information to them? No thanks dudes, id rather you do your job.
New support though, with Microsoft in charge... they were rather quick in responding to my prediciment and was going to see if I would have better luck with their support staff, I would like to get a skype number once again and it would be nice guys... but when I sent a same day response on Febuary 15th 2014 I got no response back and later on in the year I decided to try again. This time I cannot find a way to get a hold of Skype support, through the endless maze of links in the new skype webage it seems (Email Support) does not exist. I mean what is going on guys I would rather have this taken care of and I have been waiting a long long time just to get it taken care of, are you so busy sitting behind your desks [text redacted] you cannot even bother to help customers who would want to pay you cash just to recieve one of your services?

Why would they sell a phone that was defective?   Why do they not own up that the device did not and has not functioned?
Let me add some other issues I missed.
    7) Dials multiple times the same number.
    8) Dials the number minutes after trying to call a phone number
    9) constantly force closes applications.
    10) Battery life is non existent (I have bought at least 8 spare batteries)
    11) Slow to respond
Let me just post what I have done.
    1) I stopped by a store
    2) Called customer service
    3) tried to create a question in forum and verizon deleted it.

  • I continue to receive an App upgrade notice for an App that is not on my computer. Apple Tech support  has no explanation or solution. This has only occurred after upgrading to Lion.  How do I stop this?

I continue to receive an App upgrade notice for an App that is not on my computer. After spending several hours with a variety of divisions (Lion,iTunes,iPad,iMac) of Apple Tech Support, none can give me any definitive explanation or solution.  Prior to my recent upgrade to Lion, this did not occur.  Has anyone else had this problem?  If so, how did you resolve the issue?

You get an update notice for an app that is not installed on your Mac. Is there a stranger's Apple ID also appearing on your Mac related with this update?
If so, you have a pirated app on your Mac. If not, it should be another issue.

  • Worst tech support and customer service i have ever experienced in my life

almost two hours of my time was wasted on tech support. rude, inconsiderate people from the philipines. i have filopino friends. they are nothing like these people.
after wasting my time through endless transfers, being hung up on multiple times, transferred to the worng number more than ten times i got india somehow, and the women told me my is faulty. the numbers lock key doesn't work and i can't punch any buttons on the right side where the numeric keypad is.
dell and your other competitors must love this because the abusrdity of this experience is resulting in my returning this pc. i bought it two days ago.
    wow ...
sad, sad, state of affairs. worst call centre i have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. especially some guy named 'ricky'. what an abnoxious human being.
i have apple products but prefer pc, but with service like this ... man ...
anyway, terrible way to lose a customer.
have i mentioned i often advise on what computers to buy? hear that sucking sound? bad customer service results in bad business.
    good luck. selling my stock.

  • Flash 9 doesn't work and has no tech support

I am at my wits end with the macromedia Flash 9
player. I have been trying to fix the problem for weeks and have
been negecting my children to fix Flash 9's mistake and there is no
phone support for the Flash 9 only internet tech support. I keep
emailing tech support with my problem and they keep sending me the
same generic email that says" clik here to uninstall and then
re-install" I tried that like a million times so I send them a
email back saying do not send me that email again it does not solve
my problem and they respond with the same email. I serious think
the tech support don't even read the emails. I EVEN TRIED USING
CAPS AND IT STILL DIDN'T WORK!
    MY PROBLEM:
I tried installing the flash 9 player a few weeks ago when
Myspace prompted me. now I cannot see anything I keep going and
uninstalling and re installing and now all I get when I click
download now where the install video is suppose to be I get " mark
so I read the tech note
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=4a8d52ae
I did the regedit suggestion and it still did not work. I was
having trouble also removing the program from my add/remove program
in my control pannel and removing the safe versions seemed to help
that. I finally found a link that seemed to help me fairly
sucessful download Flash 9 which is
Close any Explorer/Internet Explorer/Firefox windows you have
    open
Close any anti virus soft you might have running:
    1: download
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/win/install_flash_playe r_active_x.msi
    2: Click Start>Run and enter
    c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\UninstFl.exe
3: Run the file you just downloaded
4: Go to Start>Run and type in regsvr32
    c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\flash9.ocx
This suggestion seemed to solve my " problem now the only
thing I need to over come is as I download the flash 9 it says it
sucessfully down loads but then I get a dialog box that says:
    Error 1904
    C:/windows/system32/macromed/flash/flash9.ocx
failed to register HRESUIT - 2147220473
    contact your support personel
I think if I can figure this out my problem will be solved
    can anyone help me?
If not I hope this helps someone.
I have given up all hope this is my last ditch effort.
    Please help me!

Thanks for your answers so far.
    @Xaver:
No I have win 7 clean install (instead of Vista), which is the reason I tried the workaround I linked to.
    @nifer:
No yellow bangs in the device manager, and, even more important only one entry called something like "Toshiba virtual modem" under "modem" in the device managaer (I thinkthat the four entrys for the 3g moduldrivers should be under "modem" in the device manager)
    - Is it possible to check this powerrail without having to disassemble the whole notebook? Where is the modul located?
@xardas: I think it has, at least the guy who sold me the (used) notebook said so. The model Number begins with ppm70e, which I believe is the specific model of m700. There also is a sticker with a "wireless WAN IMEI" and a number at the backside and a slot for the sim-card behind battery-pack, which both would be very suspicious for a notebook not having a 3G modul.
