K8N Neo2 forgets overclocking setting after standby

Just finished assembling my K8N Neo2 Platinum with 90nm 3000+ CPU.  It overclocks great up to 270 mhz with stock cooling and
I originally had 1.3 bios and just updated to 1.4 hoping that it will fix it (it mentions that it fixes SATA after standby issue for some drives).... but nope, everything is exactly the same.  Does anyone else have this issue?  How do you solve it?  Does Bios 1.51b fixes this?
Does everybody have the same problem or is it just my board?

I have the Neo Platinum 7030 and thought I was the only one with problems.
I like to put my in hibernation with power off switch and discovered if I turn it back on with the front power switch it comes on for only a few seconds with no video signal and goes off.  If I press again it will post with error on screen about checking my overclock settings and I have to press DEL and then F10 to get out with things OK again.
If I turn off my power controller where I have all my stuff attached, cutting of power to the back, it boots properly.
I do not use the S3 but have the S1 with power on after it's been off.

    K8N Neo2 Platinum overclocking problem

    Hello,
In the BIOS you must set the FSB:DRAM ratio to 1:1.
Set the HTT (hypertransport Ratio to x4)
Set the CPU ratio to x4 (just too see if it will work.)
    Set the FSB to 250Mhz
    Set the Vcore to 1.45v.
Set the memory timings to SPD (or default values for DDR500)
Set the memory voltage to 2.7v, 2.75v or 2.8v.
    Save and exit
Then let it boot from the memtest bootdisk.
Use memtest to see if it is ok, test for a long time, over 1 hour.
    http://www.memtest.org/download/1.55.1/memtest86+-1.55.1.floppy.zip
Tight timings and high FSB is even better
I have the same problem I can go as high as fsb 219 without tweaking anything but the FSB. My system is about the same only my ram is ddr 400 so what should my mem volt and timg should be set to?

  • K8N Neo2: How to boot after bad overclock settings?

Does anyone know - is holding the <insert> key down whilst booting supposed to work on the K8N Neo2?  i.e. reset the clock speed back to safe settings?
I have a new 4800+ processor that I have been trying and it doesn't like high memory bus speeds.  I keep trying an overclock setting (in the BIOS) and then finding it won't post.  Then I have to clear the cmos and re-enter all of the bios settings from scratch again.  Its becoming a right pain in the backside, to be honest.
I thought you were supposed to be able to just hold the insert key down on power up and it should boot with safe settings?
Or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks
    Chip

The insert thing only worked for me a few times. If I recall correctly, you need to power down everything, including the PSU itself. Then, hold the insert key, power up the PSU and then hit the power button on the case...The only thing is, and I don't know if it is BIOS version related or what, it will sometimes power on when you hit the switch on the back of the PSU.
If you are messing with it that much, then I suggest using some Windows apps to OC. Get the BIOS set up with some decent OC'd settings, stable ones. Then use apps like Core Center(voltages), A64 Tweaker(memory) and Clock gen(clock speed) to work things out in Windows. Once you have some good settings going in Windows, restart and set it up in the BIOS. This way, if you set something wrong in Windows and the PC hangs or restarts on its own, it will restart with the good BIOS settings that you know will work...Then you make note of what not to do, lol, and continue on...I hope that helps a little...Good Luck.

  • Afterburner Forgets Voltage Setting After Sleep or Hibernation

Hey, I hope someone can help me.
    I have a GTX580 Lightning and have an overclock set as follows;
    Core Voltage +70
    Mem Voltage +0
    Aux Voltage +10
    Core 900
    Memory 2250
It's completely stable and works like a charm but when I put my computer to sleep or hibernate when it returns the clocks are restored but the voltages arent which means when I try to run a game the system black screens until the driver recovers and I reapply my overclock to set the voltages again.
Im running the latest beta drivers 295.51 and Beta 10 of Afterburner but this has happend for the last 6 months with all previous driver/afterburner combinations.
I see flashing the VBIOS will probably sort it but I'm reluctant to mess with it as it sounds like I could quite easily brick the card which is still well within its warranty.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is the rather abrupt reply I got over at the Afterburner forums...
Wrong thread title. It doesn't forget anything, it is not Afterburner's job to restore VGA state after suspended mode, display driver is supposed to save VGA state before entering suspended mode and restore it properly after resuming. Afterburner may not even reside in memory when you're entering suspended mode and leaving it.
There is a workaround for such driver issues, RestoreAfterSuspendedMode entry in the configuration file, which forces Afterburner to save all settings to a temporary profile before entering suspended mode and restore it after resuming. But it won't help if you don't keep Afterburner residing in memory all the time.
And it was discussed widely, so simple search could easily solve the issue.

  • My K8n neo2 wont overclock at all!! plz help...

Hi, I just build my new machine, and after much problems I finally have it up and running at stocks speeds just fine, the problem is that I spent a lot of money buying Top-Brand components so I could overclock a lot, (I like It) but I cant seem to go upweard of 205FSB!! anything above that and the board wont boot at all forcing me to clear the Cmos!! I find this completely unaceptable for this board, being that my last board (an Msi one with nforce2) could overclock and athlon XP 2500+ barton all the way up to a 2800+!! Im really dissapointed at this, if someone could give me a few pointers as to what tweak in the bios (Im using 1.3 right now) it will be very thankful!!  ok, my specs are below, thanks!!
    Athlon64 3500+ socket 939
    Msi k8N Neo2 Platinum with 1.3bios
    2+512mb Crucial Ballistix pc3200 cl2
    BFG Nvidia Geforce 6800Gt
    36gb Raptor Hdd
    Enermax 420W power supply
    Thanks!!!

I think your problem is your power supply. Check what that MAX amp on your 12V rail.
I have nearly the exact same setup as you do and was unable to overclock the memory without lowering the memory timings much earlier than I expected too. For me I'm able to raise my FSB up to 207 at 2-2-2 timings. The max overclock I achieved was 220 X11 at 2.5-3-3 for a speed of 2420mghz. But it was not completly stable (it would bout but would lock up while gamming).  I had expected much better results than this... I bought good memory (Ballistix pc4000) I had a good 480W power supply... my processors ceilling should be around 2.6ghz. After reading this review on Anand Tech I think I found the answer... Athlon 64 Memory: Rewriting the Rules
On page 10 they make the remark that their Antec True Power 465W power suply was limiting their ability to overclock memory.... The Antec True Power is rated to supply 22A on the 12v rail. My power supply is only rated to supply 18A.  I bet your 420W is rated even less.
After reading that I fiddled with async overclocking and was stable up to 230FSB... then my hard drive freaked out... I was using sata port 1. I moved the hard drive to SATA port 4, but haven't tried much overclocking since.  Maybe if they put out a bios revision that I can adjust the HT on I'll try again. Until them I'm settled for running at 2277mghz.

  • K8N Neo2 Forgets BIOS Settings??

I'm having a rather odd problem.  I built a new PC based around the K8N Neo2 motherboard/Athlon64 3500+.  Whenever the switch on the back of the power supply is shut off, and then turned back on, if I don't clear CMOS by moving jumper JBAT1 to the "clear data" setting then back to "keep data" setting, the system won't POST.  The diagnostic LEDs on the DBracket go Yellow, Red, Red, Yellow when this happens.
If I clear CMOS by moving the JBAT1 jumper, then the system will POST and it seems to work fine (although I have to reconfigure the BIOS).  Also, if the power supply itself hasn't been switched off or lost power, I can turn the PC on and off with the power switch on the front of my case and the system will successfully POST each time without having to move JBAT1.
But it's very annoying, because when the power flips off, I have to move JBAT1 to clear CMOS and reconfigure the BIOS to get the PC going again.
Anyone have any clue as to why the board would act this way??  It's frustrating.

Looks like a bios dmi pool corruption or extended PnP system data
    in nvram.
    Try this:
Remove the AC cord from the PSU .
Take the bios battery out .
Set jbat cmos jumper to discharge for two hours .
    After that time period
    mount the battery
    Set cmos jumper to normal
    Connect AC
Turn PSU on (fire up the pc)
    Watch the post screen
You should now get cmos-error .. press F1 to continue .. del to enter bios.
    PRESS DEL
Then do only "load optimized defaults" and save/exit with F10 .
Next boot should post that BUILD DMI POOL SUCCESS , UPDATE DMI SUCCESS .
(after this you can change your other bios settings)
If you still have the same problem after this there must be an error
    with the motherboard itself.

  • K8N Neo2, can't set CPU voltage higher than 1,6V

I've a problem with the CPU voltage. I can not set it to 1,7V. When I change voltage in bios to 1,55+10%, monitoring shows only 1,6 (as with 1,45+10%) but not 1,7. When I leave only 1,55, monitoring shows that voltage is about 1,4-1,41...     I tried different bios versions - 1.5; 1.7; 1.8; and it's the same with each version... Disabling C'n'Q or loading bios defaults doesn't help :-(
How can I fix this problem?

The DFI system is awsome... with two 6800GT's, even Gary did the same when I told him about it... hehe. Getting 88 fps in the Doom3 timedemo, around 299 fps in HL2 (159 is the minimum) with 1280x1024 with 4x FSAA and 16x Aniso and 21000 pts in 3dMark2003 and near 10000 pts in 2005. I love it, even if I am up to my neck in debt because of it... hehe
Only problem is the power usage, an Enermax 600w is not enough to power the system if I want to overclock the Venice 3200+ to more than 2.61 ghz... and I bet I can reach 2.8 ghz with only one video card
Too bad I can't quite afford that level of kit... yet. But I DO have a rather large freelance deal in the works & I might take the plunge!   Otherwise, I may just settle for a Venice 3500 - I hear that some are able to get 300FSB out of them with a Neo2 Plat... So the "old" girl might have a bit of life left.... If I can get 275 with a Winnie now... 300 should be doable. I think SLI would be wasted on me right now though, since I just have a 19" monitor.
Never thought I'd hear that 600w isn't enough juice - that's "progress", I guess. Still, I wouldn't think that a Venice would need all that much power to go further than 2.6Ghz - I've seen article where they got 2.8 out of about 1.55 - 1.6v....

  • K8N Neo2 Plat Bios setting.

Just updated my bios using the liveupdate feature, frustratingly it resets all of your bios settings. I have 2 SATA hard drives set up in RAID 0, was poking through the bios enabling SATA RAID again, and came across the page that enables/disables DMA access on the IDE channels. I have the option to enable/disable it for the SATA drives as well as the IDE ones, should it be enabled like all the others? Or disabled?
    Thanks

I got the same setup as you and have Sata1 and sata2 dma enabled.
Like with ide channels you loose loose performance when dma is disabled.

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum Overclock

Can't OC for anything? Whats the problem?
Well, my system configuration is as in my sig.
I havent been able to get a decent stable OC on this rig no matter what I try.
Best OC I have attained (100% stable) is this:
    CPU: 13 x 207 = 2691Mhz
    HTT: 5 x 207 = 1035Mhz
    Memory: 207 x 2 = 414Mhz @ 2-2-2-10-2T
I've made these tweaks in the bios during OC:
    Turned off Cool'N'Quiet
    Turned off Spread Spectrum
Now, If I continue on this trend the computer stops being stable at over this amount of FSB.
So obviously, I drop the HTT and CPU Multiplier and am allowed to kick up the FSB some more.
    CPU: 225Mhz x 12 = 2700Mhz
    HTT: 225Mhz x 4 = 900Mhz
    Memory: 225 x 2 = 450Mhz @ 2.5-3-3-10-2T
However, once again with mixed results.
Prime95 bombs after about 5 minutes. (Increases to vCore do not help)
Memory is 100% perfect running Memtest for an hour.
Why am I having all these problems? Even on stock cooling it's not getting very hot.

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum overclocking - get any better than this?

I know only slightly more than nothing about overclocking, especially when it comes to dividers (what's a divider?) and so far I've managed this stable overclock on the specified CPU (using stock AMD cooling):
But I can't get the memory clock to 400MHz dual channel (yep, I'm using different brands):
Is there any way I can get better overclocking out of this kit?  I've been upping the FSB in steps of 5 and 240 eludes me (freeze at Windows boot, but I may be able to creep closer in steps of 1).  I haven't tried to improve AGP yet - it's still at 66MHz in the BIOS - but any feedback with regards the CPU, RAM (and timings) and everything else will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

First off all, you're mixing ram. That's a bad thing to do even for a stock system, let alone overclocking. As you can see from the SPD tab, both memory sticks have completely diffirent timings. My advice is to get a matched pair of ram - 2 identical sticks. You need a memory upgrade anyway, 512Mb is not enough these days and slow you down so much the oc becomes pointless imo.
You can try to enter the slowest timings (3-6-6-11) manually in bios. As you can see from the memory tab, the actual timings used are way tighter then the SPD timings of the OCZ dimm. Altough the OCZ SPD timings are for 263Mhz the used timings might still be too tight for it.
There are 2x512Mb Corsair + 2x512Mb OCR in there that, unfortunately, won't be getting changed anytime soon. :-(
Quote from: Exo on 17-June-07, 22:35:54
You might also be hitting the max of your cpu - Lower the CPU multiplier and check if you can clock the bus higher.
Upping the bus is easy enough, but where in the vanilla BIOS is the option to decrease the multiplier?

  • K8N Neo2 Plat and 1.B0 - No BIOS Setup Screen

    With K8N Neo2 Platinum (MS-7025):
After flash to 1.B0 version, from 1.90, boots normally.  But, hitting Delete key to go to BIOS Setup, all I get is a blank screen with a white cursor in upper left - Won't go to BIOS Setup.

It's 70251b0.zip. A modded version of 1B that you can reach thru the above thread found in Syar's sig.
Let us know if it works for you too.

EDIT.  I recommend winflash.  Don't use liveupdate.
If you loaded live update on your computer then you have winflash.  Go to C:\Program Files\MSI\Live Update 3\FlashUty\Award but use it carefully, shutting down all other programs and selecting the boxes to clear cmos etc. as described here:

  • [AMD] FSB overclock doesn't hold after Standby???

    Hello fellow overclockers,
My motherboard is a K8N Neo2 Plat. BIOS v1.8 and I just bought the board and the FSB overclock isn't holding once I bring my PC out of (S3) standby; all the other BIOS changes appear to be holding but for the FSB overclock settings!!!  Did I fail to check or uncheck something in my BIOS settings which would enable my FSB overclocked settings to hold once I bring my PC out of system standby?  I will note that if I restart my PC then the FSB is overclocked both in the BIOS and in Windows.  Thanks in advance!!!

    Quote from: syar2003 on 19-July-05, 05:35:22
My advice is forget about S3 if you overclock .
Great response syar2003 thank you    I just tried hibernate and when I awoke my PC out of hibernate the FSB overclock held!  So I'll put my PC in hibernate instead of S3 standby for now.  Hardly a hassel to us ClockGen to reset the FSB overclock once there lost due to S3 standby.  For now hibernate is my choice.
    Cheers!

  • K8N Neo2 Platinum resets overclock....

    Hello
K8N Neo2 Platinum resets my overclock to default speed when waking up from sleep... the overclocking is done solely in bios.
I have a Winnie 3200+ running @ 2.4Ghz with 1.45V .. when waking up .. the Vcore remains the same but the clock sets itself to 2.0Ghz.
What am I doing wrong .. or it is something wrong with my board.
    Thanks in advance.

Sorry about asking a stupid question.

the overclocking is done solely in bios.
Anyway, there seems to be different problems relating to waking up from sleep, I know that Cool'n'Quiet would stop working when I would wake up from sleep. I'll try overclocking mine a bit and I'll get back to you.
Also, check that the Save/Clear CMOS jumper is in the right position.
