[KDE 4.10] Kontact/Kalender/KMail issue

Hello together!
I have recently updated to KDE 4.10, which looks very good. Unfortunately, the above mentioned parts of KDE have stoped to work. I use Kontact for organising my mails, calender and RSS-feeds. The RSS programm (akregator) still works after the update,
yet Kalender and KMail do not work anymore. Kalender does not find any files, while Kmail still shows the the correct E-Mail accounts and files, but cannot fetch data from the servers. Due to this setup, I think either something is wrong with the SQL or
akonadi, but I do not know where to look especially for the problem.
Here is what KMail says when started seperately:
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
If no one has a easy solution, can you at least tell me how I can downgrade to KDE 4.9 again without manually tip in every package name?
Thanks in advance,
hermi

Okay, the solution in the thread did not work for me.
When I start akonadi, I get the following messages:
[hermi@localhost ~]$ akonadictl start
Connecting to deprecated signal QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString)
[hermi@localhost ~]$ QSqlDatabasePrivate::removeDatabase: connection 'initConnection' is still in use, all queries will cease to work.

    Hey guys,
    Recently i decided to give kde 4.2 a try , (been using gnome for months) and after the update i have these two distinct (i think) problems with kmail.
    When i run kmail  ,  it tries to start akonadi server, which fails due to configuration issues (see below) . After that , when i try to send an email it *always* crashes. Here is the output either of the shell or the popup error dialog:

    Hey toxygen,
    thanks for the reply. No i am not using kdemod (actually never tried it, maybe i should try it some day) . The thing about turning akonadi off is that it is not that clear to me how to do it properly.
    Looking around at System settings --> advanced --> Akonadi server configuration  , it clearly states that akonadi server is not running (due to bad configuration). I dont see anything like "switch off Akonadi server" either.
    Trying System settings--> advanced --> Kresources , it tries a couple of times to start the Akonadi server (fails ofcourse) , and then i get to the Kresources dialog. But i cant see anything there related to Akonadi, or something like "do not use Akonadi".
    Also  removing the package ignoring the dependencies with
    pacman -Rd akonadi
    has this result on shell
    KWallet::Wallet::openWallet: Pass a valid window to KWallet::Wallet::openWallet().
    kres-migrator: error while loading shared libraries: libakonadiprotocolinternals.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    kmail(23835)/kresources: Akonadi migration failed!

    kmail(23835)/kresources: exit code: 127
    kmail(23835)/kresources: stdout: ""
    kmail(23835)/kresources: stderr: ""
    So the kde still looks for it(expected). Btw it doesnt seem there to be a way to remove it without the -d option at pacman , since it is required by kdepimlibs , which in turn are required by many other kde packages.So how do you go about switching it off?
    Another strange thing i noticed after googling about the issue is that usually if i get it right, the akonadi configuration files should be located at ~/.config/Akonadi  , so why is it trying to do its stuff at /root/.config/akonadi in my machine ?? Am i somehow causing it to run as root?

  • KDE: location of Kontact calendar files

    Hi,
    I'm on a fully updated Arch_X86-64/KDE 4.9.1 system.
    Using Kontact, I would like to back up my calendar file (including ToDo entries too), yet, as can be seen from the terminal out, the calendar files are NOT where I'd expect them.
    How can I find that file(s)?
    Thanks
    ----------copy of terminal-----------------
    $ pwd
    /home/miki/.kde4/share/apps/korganizer
    miki ~/.kde4/share/apps/korganizer $ ls -al
    total 308
    drwxr-xr-x 2 miki users 4096 Aug 7 04:37 .
    drwx------ 41 miki users 4096 Aug 7 04:36 ..

    -rw-r--r-- 1 miki users 103 Aug 7 04:37 std.ics
    -rw-r--r-- 1 miki users 0 Aug 7 04:37 std.ics~

    If your calendar is in a local .ics file, right click it in the calendars list, check "properties". There you should have the file path.

  • [Solved]bogofilter kmail issue

    hey,
    Some months ago bogofilter stopped working in kmail for me and i have no clue why. I installed 64bit on my computer instead of 32bit, reconfigured kmail as usual and set up bogofilter with the kmail antispam wizzard as i did in 32bit. But somehow bogofilter doesn't recognize any mails as spam since then. I deleted all bogofilter config files and databank, then reinstalled bogofilter, started with an empty kmail config folder as well, but that didn't help as well.
    Kmail executes the bogofilter command for learning spam as
    bogofilter -s
    which should be the correct one for teaching the bogofilter what is spam and what isn't.
    Some quick google search didn't help me as well, so any hints on what might be wrong?
    EDIT: config file for bogofilter is just the standard one, haven't changed anything there.
    EDIT: dunno why but posting helped, bogofilter is working again, don't ask me why.

    Why is this post marked as SOLVED? Where is the solution? I have the same problem too...

  • Kmail status on kde[mod]4?

    Hi fellow kde arch users.  I've been avoiding upgrading to kde 4 primarily because of kmail's issues handling disconnected IMAP (random crashes, losing mail due to crashes or other wicked randomness).  There are many unsolved, open bug reports in kde mailing lists about this.   I've noticed both in chakra and kde lists that there is "only one developer" handling kmail patches and fixes on his "spare time" as noted in a couple of threads @ chakra and the kde lists, so I'm still hesitant to upgrade.
    So now that kde 4.3 is here, and 4.4 soon to come, how is the status?   What have your experiences been?  Is anyone using kmail exclusively with dIMAP or have multiple dIMAP accounts (preferably large ones with 100s or 1000s of messages)? how is the stability?
    I love how kde 4 is coming along, but I am afraid I may have to wait until 4.4 or even 4.5 before making the move, as kmail in 3.5 is nearly flawless (for what it does).

    Hi, i use kde since 4.1 and i am pretty happy with kmail.

    have you ahd any performance issues, random crashes, etc?  not necessarily only with kmail, but kde overall?

  • [SOLVED] Kontact/KMail/Korganizer...NOT starting after KDE4.4 update.

    I updated to KDE SC 4.4 yesterday, and since then I haven't been able to start Kontact nor Kmail or any other Kontact component that I remember of.
    I saw some people having the problem that Kontact would only show start page, but in my case, Kontact doesnt even show up.
    Running them on console simply doesnt give any message, except for kontact, giving a message after 5 seconds:
    nobill ~ $ kontact
    <unknown program name>(2472)/: Communication problem with "kontact" , it probably crashed.
    Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken." "
    I really am having a bad time with this, I have 3 different mail accounts configured there, and my calendar, it would be a real pitty to loose it. Thanks!

  • KDE theming inconsistent since qt5 apps

    I have really strange KDE theming going on and have tried several things without any of them working.
    Firstly I'm using i3, with some KDE apps.
    I think the issue is kde5 apps in i3 refuse to get any widget/theming applied. I've tried breezy, oxygen etc.
    Basically apps like:
    - clipper
    - konsole
    - kate
    - systemsettings5
    http://ibin.co/1rvQsUchNttb
    http://ibin.co/1rvRBXQpoyfD
    Are missing their KDE themes/widget/fonts/colors etc. Specifically:
    - Missing icons next to the button
    - Font settings are ignored
    - Color settings
    - Save as dialog, looks just horrible and wrong
    Apps that are working:
    - kontact
    - krusader
    I'm pretty sure I tried installing the whole of plasma-meta and applying the theme.
    But I'm willing to try whatever again to fix this.
    Any ideas?

    Excellent thanks, one step in the right direction.
    Never had to do this in kde4..., must be a qt5 thing...
    I don't necessarily want to set this globally.
    It's currently set to i3-with-shmlog
    Hmm, I'll try think of a nice way to set it for certain qt5 apps.
    Is there a qt5 config file where I can set this env variable?
    I'm not aware if qt5 even has config file, however here is the root of evil:
    static inline QByteArray detectDesktopEnvironment()
    const QByteArray xdgCurrentDesktop = qgetenv("XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP");
    if (!xdgCurrentDesktop.isEmpty())
    return xdgCurrentDesktop.toUpper(); // KDE, GNOME, UNITY, LXDE, MATE, XFCE...
    // Classic fallbacks
    if (!qEnvironmentVariableIsEmpty("KDE_FULL_SESSION"))
    return QByteArrayLiteral("KDE");
    if (!qEnvironmentVariableIsEmpty("GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID"))
    return QByteArrayLiteral("GNOME");
    // Fallback to checking $DESKTOP_SESSION (unreliable)
    const QByteArray desktopSession = qgetenv("DESKTOP_SESSION");
    if (desktopSession == "gnome")
    return QByteArrayLiteral("GNOME");
    if (desktopSession == "xfce")
    return QByteArrayLiteral("XFCE");
    return QByteArrayLiteral("UNKNOWN");
    qtbase src/platformsupport/services/genericunix/qgenericunixservices.cpp
    When its UNKNOWN it simply fallbacks to Fusion.

  • KDE datetime inconsistence (solved)

    Hello all,
    i've recently installed arch and I've a problem with date and time in KDE. Whilst the time and date are OK in the panel clock and the system ($ date ;-) on KDE apps like kontact (kmail, korganize) the time is NOT OK, it appears as -2 hours compared to the correct date (I'm on Europe/Madrid TZ, so now is UTC+2). I have the TZ var set up as 'Europe/Madrid' (it sets up every boot via /etc/profile) and KDE is also configured as being in 'Europe/Madrid' timezone.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Arch.
    I've had this problem for a while, and I solved it by changing from localtime to UTC in rc.conf (I left TIMEZONE to the correct values). Then changing the clock to UTC from the control center (not from the clock applet). And setting the clock to localtime from the clock applet.
    KDE has some redundancies that like to interfere with itself. This seems to be one of them. Another good example is margins (at least in the past). There were two places that I know of that you could independently set margins, and they would add onto one another.

  • KDE, aRts, and the recent flac update

    Good morning,
    I am running kde 3.3.1. No issues. I performed a pacman -Syu recently, and the flac package was updated.
    At this point, I lost my sound, specifically aRts is not running in KDE. So KDE native apps that use aRts, such as noatun, and the KDE sounds that are specific to KDE events, do not work now.
    The sound system (alsa) is still working though. Non-KDE apps generate sound perfectly, even when launched from within KDE. Last night I watched "The Day After Tomorrow" with xine, ...no sound issues. But KDE is voiceless.
    Checked the obvious such as sound settings, mute, ran alsamixer in a console and verified that something wasn't muted, and verified that my default levels had not been misadjusted...
    Thinking I had a system problem, I started gnome (2.8). It has it's own system sounds with no issues, so my problem appears to be KDE specific.
    Any ideas anyone?

    Sorry for being so late to chime but I've been busy trying to skull out XML all day and haven't had a chance to check the forum before this.
    I did the upgrade last night but didn't notice the problem with the KDE system sounds till I read this thread (I'm now using XFce 95% of the time). Like the rest xmms and other sound apps work - just no system sounds. Everything else appears to running peachy...:)

  • [kde-unstable] KDE Applications 15.04 Beta

    Packages (x86_64 only) are available for testing in the official [kde-unstable] repo.
    New applications in this release: kdenlive, telepathy-kde
    Ported to KF5 in this release:
    - kdeadmin: kcron
    - kdeedu: blinken, cantor, kbruch, kgeography, kiten klettres, kmplot, kstars, kturtle, kwordquiz, rocs, step
    - kdegames: bomber, bovo, granatier, kapman, katomic, kblackbox, kblocks, kbounce, kbreakout, kdiamond, kfourinline, killbots, kjumpingcube, klines, kmines, knetwalk, kollision, kpatience, kshisen, ksquares
    - kdegraphics: kruler
    - kdesdk: kompare, lokalize
    - kdeutils: filelight, kcalc, kcharselect, ktimer, print-manager
    - kdetoys: kteatime
    Please report packaging issues to bugs.archlinux.org (using [kde-unstable] in the description), upsteam issues to bugs.kde.org
    Known packaging issues:
    - cantor is missing, compilation fails at the moment
    - kdeartwork is not packaged, it's mostly stuff for KDE4 which hasn't been updated for years. Same for kde-wallpapers, kde-base-artwork.
    - l10n packages are not available, so new KF5 apps will not be translated
    - rocs depends on grantlee-qt5, which conflicts with grantlee-qt4, so currently can't be coinstalled with some KDE4 apps such as kdepim, kdevelop or skrooge. Hopefully will be fixed before the final release.

    No. Both: Dolphin and all KDE-Baseapps will be in 15.08.
    Personally I use dolphin-git version (from AUR) and it works pretty well. It depends only on baloo-widgets from git (and AUR). The all other dependencies are in repositories.
    I was going to try this but following the baloo-git dependency, it seems to depend on a lot of git versions
    I've just modified PKGBUILD of baloo-widgets-git:
    # Contributor: Andrea Scarpino <[email protected]>
    pkgname=baloo-widgets-git
    pkgver=r408.ebfa75c
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="A framework for searching and managing metadata"
    arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
    url='https://projects.kde.org/projects/kde/kdelibs/baloo'
    license=('LGPL')
    depends=('baloo-frameworks')
    makedepends=('extra-cmake-modules' 'git' 'kdoctools')
    source=('git://anongit.kde.org/baloo-widgets')
    replaces=('baloo-widgets-frameworks-git')
    md5sums=('SKIP')
    pkgver() {
    cd baloo-widgets
    printf "r%s.%s" "$(git rev-list --count HEAD)" "$(git rev-parse --short HEAD)"
    prepare() {
    mkdir -p build
    build() {
    cd build
    cmake ../baloo-widgets \
    -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release \
    -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr \
    -DLIB_INSTALL_DIR=lib
    make
    package() {
    cd build
    make DESTDIR="${pkgdir}" install
    It depends only on stable baloo-frameworks and... so on, it works.
    Then build and install this baloo-widgets-git before dolphin-git, and after that install dolphin-git from AUR. This solutions is for those from us, who want to use baloo with dolphin.

  • [SOLVED] Very slow application launch in KDE

    Hi, some days ago a nasty makefile tried to delete my / directory while I was trying to compile a program. While it didin't touch anything in my system folders, it made a big mess on my home. I recovered almost everything, but since then KDE is behaving strangely. In particular, launching an application with lancelot or with the standard KDE launcher has become painfully slow. All the KDE applications are affected, but the issue is particularly annoying with firefox. Launching it from the command line, however, resolves everything. Chromium is launched quickly in any case.
    I deleted .mozilla and .kde4, but the problem is still there. I have no idea to what look at to try to understand what's going on, so I would appreciate some help...
    Thanks.

    Oh, you don't have to rebuild everything. Backup your configuration also, then put it back one by one and see what has gone wrong. (All those hidden files started with a dot ".").
    I did mean those files are also important data, who would want to lose all the configuration that took so long to do
    Shouldn't take too long to figure it out. If it's my configuration, I think I can find out what wrong in less than 15 minutes.
    Good luck if you choose to do so.

  • KDE does not recognize brightness keys.

    Hey guys. Went back to KDE, but I'm having one issue that irritates me. My brightness control works perfectly fine using my brightness  keys, and KDE's power manager, but I have a issue that irritates the hell out of me. KDE does not recognize the brightness keybinds what so ever. Example: I press FN F6(Brightness up), and the brightness is increased by the kernel in the tiny default increment. But KDE does nothing, nor does KDE realize the brightness has changed. But then I can also use KDE's slider to change brightness fine. I played abit with KDE's keybinds, and it recognizes the keybind as "Brightness Up" when I bind it, but the bind itself does not work. To test, I set brightness up to open a terminal, failed to do so. So KDE isnt intercepting the binds. These are the ONLY two binds I notice that it doesent intercept. This is a KDE only issue, Gnome's backends handle it fine. Any help in getting KDE to handle the bind would be fantastic. Thanks.

    I have a Asus X202E. Asus netbooks seem to have historically had issues with the backlight under linux. A few kernel versions ago, backlight control did not work whatsoever, so I remember playing around with the ACPI OSI options alot, though it was all patched in kernel 3.9. Its odd that this affects only KDE though. Using a null OSI doesent affect KDE at all, the change it does make though, is to KDE, brightness 0 is now Minimum brightness, while previously brightness 0 was screen off. I'll try some of the other options such as osi=legacy, etc.

  • [SOLVED] KDE Is not loading

    HI, i'm been an archlinux user for a while, never have great issues, but now i reinstalled arch in a formated disk and started all over. The thing is that I installed kde basis (following the wiki), but neither kdm via inittab, or kdm via daemon works! it just load the tt1 console and do nothing. No erors, or something. The only difference with previous installation is that the first time i installed kde-meta package, and have no issues
    Any thoughts?

    Anything in the logs? What happens if you try to start KDE with startx/.xinitrc instead of KDM?

  • DRDY ERR I/O Errors only occur with KDE. HDD or kernel related?

    This isn't too urgent since I'm not having this problem anymore, but I would like to know what caused it in the first place.
    A few months ago, I think it was in May, when I was booting into KDE, the desktop wouldnt load. After logging in it goes to a black screen with a cursor. I check my tty consoles and they are all spammed with DRDY and I/O errors.
    Today my log files don't go back to that time, but I apparantly wrote them down:
    [timestamp] ata1.00: irq_stat 0x40000001
    [timestamp] ata1: SError: { CommWake }
    [timestamp] ata1.00: failed command: READ FPDMA QUEUED
    [timestamp] ata1.00: cmd 60/08:00:79:c5:e9/00:00:38:00:00/40 tag 0 ncq 4096 in
    [timestamp]                res 41/40:08:7c:c5:e9/00:00:38:00:00/60 Emast 0x409 (media error) <F>
    [timestamp] ata1.00: status {DRDY ERR }
    [timestamp] error: { UNC }
    [timestamp] end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 9540445540
    It repeats this over and over again on all 7 consoles. I believe the hex numbers and sector # change slightly each time it repeats.
    I restart the computer and it does the same thing. Then one day it booted into the desktop after sitting at a black screen with a cursor for 10 minutes.
    When I saw Media and I/O error, I immediately thought it was my hard drive failing (which sucks because I had this computer for less than a year). But the weird thing was that once it finally boots into a desktop enviroment, everything works fine. I can access any file without any error, I can boot into my windows partition perfectly, and everything runs as fast as it did before. I ran fschk and chksdk several times, I passed with 0 bad sectors. SMART tests come out perfect.
    The strangest thing about this is that the errors only come about when I boot into KDE. If I boot into any other enviroment I do not get these errors. Completely reinstalling KDE did not fix it. I don't remember updating or changing anything before these errors started appearing. I did do a full system update once I was actually able to get into my KDE session, but it didnt do anything. I eventually solved it by using another desktop enviroment, which was xfice at the time but now its cinnamon. I never got those errors ever since.
    I posted something similar to this on KDE's forum, and no one could figure it out. One of the admins told me its very unusual that something like this would happen only with KDE, and the READ FPDMA/DRDY ERRs "are sourced from the kernel - and are disk/kernel related according to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/550559."
    As of now I can install KDE perfectly without any sort of issue, but I know several kernel updates occured since then. So could this be a issue with the kernel? Or is my hdd really starting to fail? I backed up the computer already, but I record music constantly and don't "aggresively" run backups (i.e not every day, but every month or so). Should I start doing so?
    Thanks

    The READ FPDMA QUEUED errors come up in SMART's log, so those problems I had have to be HDD related, not kernel. Other than that I really don't know what I'm looking at here. I don't like the numbers for UDMA_CRC_Error Count or Multi Zone Error rate, but I don't know what those mean. Until someone explains to me what I'm dealing with here, I'm going to assume it is an HDD problem and start furiously backing stuff up.
    bart_b wrote:Some of these issues are related to interference of the Spread Spectrum Clocking (SSC), SSC is a way of eliminating interference. Now some BIOSes let you tweak this setting and some harddisks like WD have a jumper setting to disable/enable the spread spectrum frequency. But since it is more of a RF issue rearranging your sata cables might help or replace them with a better quality cable could do the trick to reduce interference. If you have overclocked your PC, try to re-tweak it to a more sane level.
    I forgot to mention that my computer is a Dell Inspiron n5110. Its a piece of garbage, its the only computer I am aware off that has programs that PREVENT you from connecting to the internet when you don't buy their stupid extended warranty. I'm saving up for a thinkpad t420 but thats another story
    Woah. Radio signals interfering with data passing through the SATA cables? I've had poorly sheilded guitar cables that pick up odd AM stations, but SATA cables? Thats bizzare. I don't own a PC yet, but I'm going to build one for my brothers once the parts come in, and I'll definitely make a note of that. I didn't even know you could overclock a CPU to the point where it GENERATES RF signals powerful enough to interfere with the HDD. Thats really interesting.
    Another note I should mention is that the motherboard on my dell died maybe a month or 2 after the I/O errors. Gotta love dell. Every single dell computer I owned died of mobo failure without any warning. Even their printers. Good god.
    Anyway, could the mobo have been a factor? I know the tech that replaced the mobo told me that the LCD cable wasn't seated correctly, so could the SATA cables have been bad as well? I really doubt it though, but who knows
    Edited for embarrassing spelling mistakes
    I think it's rather interesting that both you and I have Toshiba hard drives.  I've heard that they're supposed to be as delicate as glass, but mine's held up all right, until these weird errors and stuff.
    As for motherboards.  If the motherboard is messed up, everything will seem messed up, but may or may not.

  • Akregator "Open in EXISTING browser window" :D

    Hi,
    Been bugged by this issue for a while since I moved browsers. Now I'm accustomed to Akregator and actually quite like the way it handles RSS.
    However, I prefer browsing in a single window on a single desktop. I put Kontact (with KMail/Akregator) on the second desktop. Akregators default "Open in external browser" works well... as long as the existing window of Konqueror is on the same desktop as Kontact/Akregator.
    I created a custom bash script to handle this. Yes, it mainly comes from Kadu (the QT Gadu-Gadu client), but I've modified it a bit.
