Kernal Panic: iMac 2011: Please help.
Hi, everyone,
A few months ago, a friend's iMac started to crash during random events. Sometimes while on Facebook, sometimes while just surfing the Internet, and sometimes just word processing. I wrote about it in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19560212?ac_cid=op123456#19560212
He brought it to Apple Genius at Apple Store here in town. The Genius ran it through a series of hardware checks and a stress test and couldn't recreate the issue. His only advice was "to shut down once in a while."
Sure enough, the panics continued to happen, always for a different reason. I finally suggested to my friend after some tests from the above thread, to do a Erase and Install of the operating system. This seemed to have fix the issue, but sure enough, the panics resurfaced. Yesterday, the machine had four panics in one day. At this point, I think my friend should take it back to the Apple Store, speak with a Genius and ask them to review all these logs. Basically, making sure he doesn't leave the store until they agree to take a real look at the computer. At this point, he has 10 to 12 crash logs. Here is the latest one:
Any advice would be appreciated.

It's a hardware fault. To reproduce the issue at the Apple Store, the hardware configuration must be the same, including any wired peripherals.

Any help appreciated before I open her up!
I had multiple crashes attempting to post this. Desktop at the point of not useable. GPU temps are between 35 C and 60 C.
Also I can not get computer to crash in safe mode.Is it possible to add a different card
Not to my knowledge. Whatever card you use would need to have Mac-specific firmware, so don't bother trying a PC card. -
Kernel Panic - imac rebooting please help?
Hello
My 2009 iMac continues to reboot due to kernel panic during the past couple of week. It happes several times a day. I cannot find any specific cause and it seems to happen randomly. That is even when the computer is on standby. I hvae searched the web, but cannot find a solution. The problem is getting worse.
I have tried apple hardware test that detected no problems. I have upgraded the imac last yaer with a Samsung SSD and its running 6 gb ram. It has worked flawless until now. Should I consider buying a new Imac?
Here is the log:

Boot into safe mode (restart holding down SHIFT key). If no KP, then uninstall and reinstall those, one at a time.. If KP, then most likely hardware related. Run the Apple Hardware Test suite, extended tests at least twice, followed by Rember. See

Kernal Panic - iMac G5 - 10.3
Hi,
On my iMac G5, running panther I get this
When using Apple Mail sometimes when I open it the screen goes fuzzy and after a minute or so a kernal panic occurs. When I reboot all my mail is set to unread!
Any suggestions on what to do?
Thanks a lot
TomWelcome To Discussions Hi Tom!
Is this OS X Kernel Panic, what is happening?
Exactly which model iMac G5 is it
Which version of OS X is installed?
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is available?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?
What peripherals do you have connected to the iMac?
Is there any consistency as to when it happens. For example, when you are using certain programs or applications?
Are there any programs or applications, that are set to load at Startup?
What happened shortly before this issue originated.
Did you make any changes, like upgrading the system, update or install any applications or programs, new hardware or peripherals, etc?
Have there been any unusual occurences, like freezes, crashes, power outages, etc?
Are you able to startup from the system install disc to run Repair Disk?
THESE ARE THE STEPS FOR USING DISK UTILITY TO REPAIR YOUR HD
1.Insert the System Install disk, Mac OS X CD-ROM disk, or Restore DVD disk, then restart the computer while holding the C key. Use the System disk, of the OS, that is currently installed.
2.Once started up from CD or DVD, on the Menubar at the top of the screen, choose Disk Utility from the Installer contextual menu for Panther, or Utilities for Tiger.
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from disc to access Disk Utility.
3.Click the First Aid tab.
4.Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5.Select your Mac OS X volume, if necessary.
6.Click Repair. If DU reports errors it has fixed, re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported.
7.Repeat steps 5 & 6, but select the Hard Drive this time. It's usually the first listed with the manufacturer's model number. Make note of the S.M.A.R.T. status.
8.When finished, select Quit Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
9.Select Quit Installer from the Installer menu.
10.In the resulting pop-up window, choose restart.
11.After the computer has restarted, you can eject the CD.
Post the results.

Screen is permanently black on my iMac 2011, need help
Hi guys, I have an iMac 2011 21" and it works really great, I have bootcamped it for some games which also works great. But today I when I was rebooting to Windows after I had updated the Mac a problem occured. As the computer shut down in Mac mode the screen went black as normally, and it began starting in Windows mode, the startup sound came as normal but the screen stayed black. I waited for a few mins and it remained black. I restarted it and the startup sound came as usual but again, no lights. The computer was pretty hot when i felt it also, could that be a cause? I tried removing the loadcable completely for like 10 mins and started it again, same problem. I also can't see anything on the screen if i have light from a flashlight, I tested the Alt + CMD + P + R combo and it didn't work. Tested to put the Mac disc in and press C at startup, didn't work.
And also, the computer is working, because I can hear sounds (lower and higher the volume) and i pressed some keys and then Enter, and the "failure" sound came. Also, I'm not 100 % sure if the computer is in Windows or Mac at the moment, even though it was going to boot in Windows, it feels like it's in Mac, because there were no Windows sounds.
Please help me, thanks in advance!
- AxelTry booting up in Safe Mode , it will take longer than normal but does stuff during that time. If it isn't on in a couple of minutes we have a problem. If safe mode doesn't help try this reset:
SMC RESET
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
Wait 15 seconds.
Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
If that doesn't help you may be experiencing a video failure. -
My Applications keep Freezing - Brand New Mid-2010 iMac. Please Help
Hello - I am extremely frustrated because I just received my brand new iMac in the mail (27" i7 2.93GHZ / 2 TB HD / 4GB 2x2 SDRAM) and my applications keep freezing.
Let me give an example -
I keep trying to open iPhoto so that I can import and export photos from my other Mac and my iPhone. Just about any time I do any big upload, the whole iPhoto freezes on me and I have to force quit.
Another example (the one that is bugging me most right now): I am trying to paste 3 pages of text into a word document in Microsoft Word, and every time I attempt to do this, Word freezes.
I understand these are both rather minor in the grand scheme of things, but I just got this fricken thing and I'm hoping I can take some measure to avoid my applications freezing... Do I not have enough memory for running these simple day-to-day tasks? I was thinking about buying 2x 4GB OWC memory to make my computer 12GB instead of 4GB. Please help - I'd love to hear any opinions. Should I take it in? Or is it a simple fix? Even when I first booted my computer there was lag getting the introduction information to load.Dang...
I was hopeful that this would have solved the problem. Unfortunately, it must be a software problem of some sort. I reset my PRAM(?) and did the disk utility cleanup or whatever it is called. I do appreciate you giving your 2 cents. Does anybody else have any ideas? Microsoft Office is still freezing up when I try to paste something from the internet -- Oddly enough, it isn't happening when I'm posting text from some websites, but is from others. The firewall is turned off, so I don't think its a security issue. Please help! I need some way to put my academic transcript in a word file so that I can email it for reference, so this is kind of urgent! Thank you.
Should I try a software update?

My wifes messy iMac-move - please help
Please help me get my wife "back on track"
We have several Mac computers, timecapsules etc. and recently, my wife sold her old MacBook Pro and bought a shiny new iMac.
I made sure that she had a Timecapsule-backup of her MBP but after almost a month of daily use, I now realise that she did NOT import her backup when starting the new imac. She simply started from scratch.
She used the same username etc. and to make things worse, she's done a lot of work, iTunes music, iPhote images etc etc etc in the mean time.
I need to help her get her old stuff to the iMac without deling the new stuff.
Is there a way for me to merge her two userprofiles to one or any other ideas I can work from?
Thanks in advance
Message was edited by: KLP29I think the best thing to try is get an ext HD and try to restore the TM backup to the ext HD. That allows you to recover her old stuff from the TM backup. Check out the FAQ under the TM forum. I don't do TM stuff, so can't help with those details.

"error during installation" 10.3 with iMac G5 Please Help
Hi there, I have an iMac G5- the first iteration 17". I am preparing to sell it so I used disk utility off of the original OSX DVDs (or CDs) that came with the computer to erase the drive and do the 7 pass overwrite. I have subsequently tried to reinstall the original OS (10.3) and I get the same error every time. "There was an error during installation. Please try again."
I have tried repairing disk permissions, and repairing the disk. They execute succesfully (after a restart) and yet I receive the same error message. Can someone please help me. Thank you in advance for your time.
-EricThis indicates you are upgrading to 10g from some previous Oracle version. It also indicates your libraries either do not exist or exist in a location that the new installation is expecting to see them (in this case look at where you have your lib and lib32 specified at)

Kernel Panic When Printing -- Please Help
I used to have the Kernel Panic problem all the time because I stupidly did not keep my computer on a hard surface. Once I started leaving it directly on my desk, the kernel panic subsided.
Now it's back. Every time I try to print something, a few pages print, followed by Kernel Panic (my screen darkens with symbol of the power button and error message tells me to restart my computer). I have 23.1 GB left on my hard drive (out of 120). I don't think this is the problem but I figured I'd mention it anyways.
Last time this happened, I had all other applications closed. The only thing open was the printing que and kernel panic still happened.
Please, please help me. I just started school and I really need to be able to print things and not have my computer shut off every time. Thanks so much!
My printer is an HP Photosmart C6380 all-in-one.Thank you so much for your help! I appreciate it more than you know! Here's actually my most recent three kernel panic attacks (with the most recent at the very bottom). If you could diagnose what's going on with my computer, that would be so amazing! Any advice you have... my apple care recently expired so I am feeling a little hopeless :(!
Thank you!!!

imac DV 400MHZ Mac OS X (10.3) GrapeHello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you checked the monitor settings on Apple Menu > System Preferences... > Displays > The last time I used a CRT Mac was on my iMac 400 Grape but you should have some CRT control options that we don't seee on LCD displays.
The other thing to try is to boot in to OS 9 again and see if the issue persists. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences... > Start-Up Disk > select OS 9.1 and click Restart.

Grey Curtain Kernal Panic (w/log) - need help in deciphering
I read a couple of other threads on this event, which happened for the first time yesterday after waking my MBP from sleep. In both threads requests were made for the log(s), but I didn't see any posted. I have both the kernal panic log and the console entries surrounding the time it happened to mine. Can someone give a look at them and give me an idea whether there's something to look further into, repair, or replace.
Many thanks in advance for any assistance.

KERNAL PANIC ERROR TRANSLATION, PLEASE?
I've been suffering from frequent crashes on this power mac g4 for years now, even back when we had 9 on it. The only alterations of hardware that have been made since we bought it, was an additional 160gb internal harddrive. Other than that, nothing has been touched. This is a work computer. I shouldn't even have to be dealing with this. It should be taken care of by my company. but they're cheap as ****. so this is my last resort. can anyone PLEASE help me translate this panic log (actually there are two):

Kernel version:
Darwin Kernel Version 7.9.0:
Wed Mar 30 20:11:17 PST 2005; root:xnu/xnu-517.12.7.obj~1/RELEASE_PPCSince it does not appear to be specific as to any peripheral bus this is some sort of data access error. Those can be hard drive or RAM related. If you are running any sort of disk utility on the machine, you should make sure first of all that it definitely is 10.3.9 compatible. You may also want to verify that the directory is in good shape following these instructions:
http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n106214
If it is, I'd start to focus on possible hardware issues assuming the drive is nowhere near full and no third party utility software has been used to fix the drive.
If it isn't, and isn't able to be fixed by the above instructions, backup your data, and get Alsoft Disk Warrior 3.0.3.
Check also that the drive's jumper settings are correct for the cable position they are in. The jumper settings are usually on the sticky label of the drive.
If everything checks there and kernel panics persist, then I'd look at possibly replacing the RAM. Note, doing this yourself, if you don't know how may cause static electricity to damage the machine. An authorized service center may be a better option if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself. -
Panic Report troubleshoot - please help
New to these reports. Can someone please help me decipher what the Panic Report is stating? Only change on laptop was upgraded to 16gb Crucial Memory.
Only happens when I do a "Shutdown" but not on a "Restart" - Report comes up then restarts itself - in which it boots up fine afterwards. Any help would be great thanks!
