  • Kernal parameter SEMMSL & SEMMNS

    Hi
We have 6 instances in a HP-UX box (B.11.11) , when i'm starting instances one by one, the last instance got failed to open, error in the alert reported is pasted below.
    ksedmp: internal or fatal error
    ORA-27154: post/wait create failed
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:semget failed with status: 28
ORA-27301: OS failure message: No space left on device
    ORA-27302: failure occurred at: sskgpsemsper
After going thru the serveral investigations i found the SEMMNS or SEMMSL kernal parameter value needs to be changed, Can anyone please come up with good suggestions to change the kernal parameter and its restriction or any associated kernal parameters also changed or is any memory or the hardware needs to be checked on this.
Can any good experts help me would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Venkat

I don't think it is going to be as easy as you hope.
The various parameters have interoperative affects on each other.
Another words, when you change one parameter, it affects another.
Anyway, on one of our HP-UX 11.11 boxes, with 12 Gb RAM and running 13 databases (v.9 and v.10), these are the memory settings in my system file.

There are some awesome pages on the HP site dealing with kernel parameters. You can drill down about every kernel parameter and read everything you ever wanted to know about them all. I used to have it bookmarked, but unfortunately I've lost the bookmark.
You can go to the following HP web page, and this might be a good start to search for more information about HP-UX kernel parameters (or just google it).

  • How to adjust Fedora Parameters

I'm trying to install the oracle 11g database (I believe this is the lastest) on a fedora 17 on virtual box (latest version) on Windows 7 and I'm bumping into the following limits:
    (1) Hard Limit: maximum open file descriptors: exected value 65536 Actual value 4096.
How do I adjust this parameter?
(2)Hard Limit: maximum user processes: Expected value: 16384 Actual value: 11670.
How do I adjust this parameter?
    (3) Soft Limit: maximum user processes: Expected Value: 2047 Actual value 1024.
What is the difference between this and the last one? How do I adust this?
    (4) OS Kernal Parameter: semopm expected value 100, actual value :32
    How do I adjust this?
    (5) OS Kernel Parameter shmmax Expected value 536870912, actual value 33554432.
    How do I adjust this?
    (6) OS kernel parameter "file-max" Expected value 6815744, Actual value 149348
    (7) OS Kernel Parameter ip_local_port_range expected value: 9000 & 65500 Actual value 32768 & 61000
    (8) OS kernel parameter rmem_default, expected value: 262144, actual value 163840
    (9) OS kernal parameter rmem_max, expected value 4194304, actual value 131071
    (10) OS Kernal Parameter: wmem_default, expected value: 262144, actual value : 163840

    (12) OS Kernel parameter: aio-max-nr: expected value: 1048576, actual value 65536
    (13) Package binutils-2.15.92.0.2, actual value: missing
    (14) Package gcc-3.4.6, actual value: missing
    (15) A dozen other missing packages... Can multiple version versions of the same package (such as bintutils) co-exist and satisfy oracle? If not, do I have to uninstall the old one before installing the newer (or older) version? I assume I can do this with yum?
I received a nice response at [http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?p=1601338#post1601338] and I tried looking in the welcome.html file which had links to other documents that I searched. However, I could not find the instructions for adjusting these parameters in fedora (or any other OS). Can some one point me (more precisely) to the instructions for adjusting these parameters?
    Thanks
    Siegfried

    Hi;
    1. Fedora is not certified platform
    2. Please download&use OEL 5.x for your oracle installation.
    3. If you insist to install oracle on not certified platfrom fedora 17. Please see Tim's blog:

  • EXPDP is too slow even though the value of cursor_sharing changed to EXACT.

    Hi
We are having a 10g standarad edition database (10.2.0.4) on Solaris 5 which is RAC with ASM. Infact we are planning to migrate it to LINUX x86-64 and to 11.2.0.3. The database size is around 1.3 TB. We are planning to go with an expdp backup and impdp to new server and new version database.
    SQL> select * from v$version;
    BANNER
    Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production

    SQL> !uname -a
    SunOS ibmxn920 5.10 Generic_127128-11 i86pc i386 i86pc
As per the plan I started the expdp. But unfortunately the processing of tables even continued for one and half days and the backup didnt started also. After going through few docs I found that the CURSOR_SHARING should be EXACT to make the expdp more faster (Previously it was SIMILAR). So I changed the parameter to EXACT in one of the node and started the backup again yesterday night on the same node where I change the parameter. When today I came back still the processing going on. I checked the job status and found that the table processing is still going. It is not hanged at all. But its too slow.
What could be the reason. Here is the memory details and kernal parameter details.

    Hi,
I'd be looking at doing this in parallel over a database link and completely miss out sending anything to nfs - it will make the whole process quicker (you effectively skip the export part and everything is an import into the new instance).
I ran a 600GB impdp in this way over a db link and it maybe took 12 hours (can't remember exactly) - a lot of that time is index build in the new database so make sure your pga etc is set up correctky for that.
LOB data massively slows down datapump so that could be the issue here also. You should be able to acheive the whole process in less than a day (if you have no lobs...)
    Cheers,

  • HELP!!! Max number of Peoplesoft connections

    Hi all:
We are using Peoplesoft on Oracle (HP -UX platform). We are in the middle of adding two more Peoplesoft modules this week. As we expect the number of users to increase 3 times (almost 1200 users, concurrently around 200- 250 users), I am wondering if I need to change any Oacle parameters to handle all those connections.
I am worried when Peoplesoft spawns all those SYSADM connections (200-250) to Oracle, if Oracle will slow down - I am still looking for documentation to guide me in setting Oracle parameters for Peoplesoft.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just a question, I haven't aware of peoplesoft module and it behaviour, dont peoplesoft uses connection pooling instead of single session for every connection?
Well, do you think of shared server or not?
You may need to have sufficient value for sessions parameter and also max users connection kernal parameter from HP-UX.
Well, having good pga_aggregate_target also helps in perofrmance.

  • Install Grid step-step guide ??

    Hello all,
I would like to know if there are any quick install guide for installing Grid, I tried searching online, But there was no luck as there is nothing with details on step - step. I am looking something besides oracle as this will help me teach myself to install grid and monitor agents. I am looking for something similar(below links), but these were for installing RAC. I am looking for how to install grid and setting up agent on server to monitor them. Please forward me to right direction if you know of any good links....
    http://www.akadia.com/services/ora_rac.html
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/hunter_rac10gr2_iscsi.html

looks good, thank you. I was looking for a more detail one. As this take you straight to installation. I was more of looking into starting from step1, maybe it be setting up some kernal parameter, setting you oracle dba group or getting the software and do this...but THANK YOU...Do you have any other docs that you can guide me into ?

  • Doubt on topics

    Hi All,
I would like to share some question, Could anyone please suggest me on this topics?
1)If my RAM is 8gb and SGA size is 3gb what is the value for kernal parameter?
    2)RAM is 8gb and sga_target=2gb, sga_max_size=3gb then what happened?
3)IS it possible for one user acess other user table on same server?
    Regards,

If you are using 10g u can enable Automatic memory management by setting
sag_max_size and sga_target so the sga will be of 3GB. Oracle wont give all the 3GB at once.
You can access the table between difference schema by giving the grants on the table
    sql>grant select on <owner>.<table_name> to <user>;
and even you can access the object of schema in different databases with the help of dblink.
    Thanks

  • I need kernal upgrade on hp unix cluster ECC6  process step to step

    Hello,
I need kernal upgrade procedure on hp unix cluster ECC6  in  step to step
    Please help me .
    Regards
    Mahesh

    Hi,
If its a cluster or single instance, the procedure is the same.
As a thumb rule always execute the program RSPARAM from se38 and find the directory structure of the parameter DIR_CT_RUN.
The default value is generally /usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/run
Download the SAPEXE<NO>.SAR and SAPEXEDB<no>.SAR and extract i in the above directory.
Before you do it make sure thats:
Stop the SAP R/3 resource in the cluster. Leave the SAP disk online.
    Replace the Kernel
    Start the instance
Replicate executables in the c:windowssapcluster or c:winntsapcluster (on both nodes)
    You are done
    Thanks Nirmal

  • Do you have the recommend Parameter Sets Controlling IPC Resources on Solaris 8 (64-bits)

Do you have the recommend value of "Parameter Sets Controlling IPC Resources"
    for Tuxedo8(32-bits) on Sun Solaris8.0 (64-bits) ?

    Hi Asgorath,
Unfortunately I do not have an answer for you but I
am experiencing the identical problem on a HP
Proliant BL25p Blade Server. Here is my hardware
    config:
CPU - Dual Opteron 2.6 Single Core
    Memory - 16gb
Controller - HP Smart Array 6i
    Logical drives - 1 (2x72gb RAID1+0)
I have tried the same things as you and I still get
intermittant boots. Power on and off does not always
work as the system still hangs. It's totally hit or
miss. Once it soes boot it seems to work fine. I have
also installed the latest Solaris 10 for x86 Patch
Cluster in hopes that some of the kernal patches
would fix the problem. So far no luck as the system
continues to hang...HARD!! HP was out to my site
today and the Eng. is going back to the group that
qualified Solaris10 on the HP Blades and see if they
have any input. If I receive anything back I will
post it here. I know this post is late and if you
have resolved please post your fix.Hi doc42755,
I have not come up with a solution as of yet, if I do come up with a solution i will most certainly post it here.
However, if you find the solution could you let us know in this thread aswell.

  • Logical AND in MDX Reporting Services Parameter

Hi, I would like to implement logical AND on a cube parameter. I have seen examples of hard-coded logical AND in MDX.
But I'm not sure how to apply this to a parameter's MDX dataset.
Here is an example of the automatically generated MDX which uses logical OR:
This is the drop down parameter:
WITH MEMBER [Measures].[ParameterCaption] AS [Department].[Department].CURRENTMEMBER.MEMBER_CAPTION MEMBER
    [Measures].[ParameterValue] AS
    [Department].[Department].CURRENTMEMBER.UNIQUENAME MEMBER [Measures].[ParameterLevel] AS
    [Department].[Department].CURRENTMEMBER.LEVEL.ORDINAL
    SELECT {[Measures].[ParameterCaption], [Measures].[ParameterValue],
    [Measures].[ParameterLevel]} ON COLUMNS
    , [Department].[Department].ALLMEMBERS ON ROWS
    FROM [MyCube]
And the demo report dataset is:
SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[CompanyTbl Count] } ON COLUMNS,
    NON EMPTY { ([Product Level No].[Product Level No].[Product Level No].ALLMEMBERS ) }
DIMENSION PROPERTIES MEMBER_CAPTION, MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME ON ROWS FROM
    ( SELECT ( STRTOSET(@DepartmentDepartment, CONSTRAINED) )
    ON COLUMNS FROM [MyCube]) WHERE
    ( IIF( STRTOSET(@DepartmentDepartment, CONSTRAINED).Count = 1,
    STRTOSET(@DepartmentDepartment, CONSTRAINED), [Department].[Department].currentmember ) )
    CELL PROPERTIES VALUE,
    BACK_COLOR, FORE_COLOR, FORMATTED_VALUE, FORMAT_STRING,
    FONT_NAME, FONT_SIZE, FONT_FLAGS

    Hi,
I can see there just one parameter @Department@Department in your script. But if you had two parameters that should return resultset affected by two parameters. You can do it as either select from subselect from subselect.
    Example 1
    SELECT
    {x} ON COLUMNS,
    {ROWS_SET} ON ROWS
    FROM
    (SELECT StrToSet(@Param1) ON COLUMNS FROM
    (SELECT StrToSet(@Param2) ON COLUMNS FROM
    [CUBE_NAME]
    Or crossjoin between 2 parameters
    SELECT
    {x} ON COLUMNS,
    {ROWS_SET} ON ROWS
    FROM
    (SELECT StrToSet(@Param1)*StrToSet(@Param2) ON COLUMNS FROM
    [CUBE_NAME]
