Kernel Panics for months now!

Before we get started, don't tell me to zap PRAM, do a permissions repair or a hardware test, I've done them all. I did replace a failing drive a while ago that was giving me trouble. Since I replaced it, the panics have been less frequent. I even re-installed my OS, which also helped a bit, but it still happens. The hardware test showed that all my hardware was fine, which I don't actually believe. It seems to me that the CPU or GPU are at fault, but if the GPU were at fault, I figure it would only occur when it was in use. I'm hoping it's a software issue. I'm a video editor and this happening is totally unacceptable. I'm clearly not the only person it has happened to either. I am frustrated beyond belief and refuse to have my computer shipped in to have repairs done as it is the source of my living. Even if a kernel panic occurs once in a while, I can still use it for work. It's a 2010 i7 MBP with a hi res screen. It's running 10.8, but I experienced this with 10.7 as well. Also the panics occur more frequently when the computer isn't plugged in, even at full charge.

...how did you got that info from the log?
I had the same thing happening to my MacBookPro6,2. Search here or elsewhere for "NVRM[0/1:0:0]: Read Error 0x00000100" and find that you and I are not the only ones.
KPs can happen for a number of reasons. I'm not saying I can read all the logs, haha, but the one you posted here I can read very well...

  • [SOLVED] Kernel panic for an unknown reason

[Solved] Steps done to solve it:
    0. Panic because I couldn't play starcraft2 (this step is sooo important! ;)
    1. Updated my mirrorlist.
    2. Forced a refresh on the package list from the new mirrorlist. "pacman -Syy"
    3. Downgraded the kernel.
    4. Deleted the latest kernel package from the pacman cache.
    5. Updated the system. (pacman -Syu)
    6. Thanked lilsirecho for helping out!
    7. Profit
    Hi all
I just did a "pacman -Syu" this afternoon and after that I'm getting kernel panics for unknown reasons.
edit: I had kernel 3.0.4 befure syu and I have kernel 3.0.7 now. I tried downgrading wine and the kernel with no success.
It first happened when I tried to run StarCraft2 with wine. I even created a post looking for help because of that.
Later on I tested another game, just in case, and it crashed too.
Looks like a wine problem, right? Or even a graphics driver problem.
That's what I thought too. But then I tried to update with "yaourt -Syu --aur" and in the first package compression it freezed once again. And it does fail everytime I try to update with yaourt during the compression phase.
What do this situations have in common?
My opinion is that they all require a lot of resources. StarCraft 2 puts my PC at 100% almost all the time. The other game is pretty old, but it freezed during an "environment loading" phase, right when the map was loading. The compression phase of yaourt also consumes a lot of resources.
This is my view of this problem, but I could be completely wrong.
What I need is help finding what is the real source of this kernel panics. I don't know where to look for the logs or the error reports when a kernel panic occurs.
I hope someone can help me trace the problem somehow. I think I'm lost
    ty in advance.
    cheers!

Possibly caused by a mirror download.
Perhaps you need to revert kernel and insure you have the latest mirrorlist and then syu again.
When I saw your response I thought: "Why should that be true? I downgraded the kernel with no success. Doesn't make much sense".
But then I did what you said:
Downgraded the kernel back to 3.0.4.
Moved the latest mirrorlist.pacnew I had to be the mirrorlist in use.
    Then did a "pacman -Syyu".
And, miraculously, it works fine now.
How in the world did you know that could be the reason? It would have been the last possibility I would have thought about, no doubt about that
Thank you very much lilsirecho. Your post really helped me.
Not gonna mark this as SOLVED yet. Yesterday I marked my other thread as solved too soon and I regretted my decision.
I will leave a 1week time-frame to be 100% sure that it is fixed, just in case.

  • Adobe Media Encoder CC 7.2.0.43 still crashes after beginning of encoding - bugs for months now!

Adobe Media Encoder CC 7.2.0.43 is still crashing after beginning of encoding! In my case this bug exists for months now and Adobe is not able to get rid of its own programming faults! The user pays a lot of money for the license and doesn't get a functioning software! I spent days to get a solution now, but NOTHING of your suggested help works!
This is my 'support' history beginning in AUGUST (!):
    Sent: Thursday, August 15, 2013 ...
    Subject: Bug Report
    Product: Adobe Media Encoder
    Product Version: CC
    Operating System : Windows 7
    OS version: Service P1
Concise problem statement: Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Go to Premiere Media Export
    2. Stating Media Export Parameters for ME
    3. Starting ME
    4. Define video title and path
    5. Start Media Encoder CC rendering
    6. ME states 'Preview not available'
    7. Rendering aborts after about 15 sec.
    8. Media Encoder CC crashes, no matter which kind of video! Every time.
    9. Direct 'Export' from Premiere CC is possible with all the same parameters, but CC AME crashes!
    10. Also installed Premiere CS 6 Media Encoder WORKS without any problems, but not the CC Media Encoder!!
Expected results: Media Encoder CC WORKING. This is still my expected result as a paying customer!
My steps to solve these problems (with Adobe's help) were / are:
    - Cleant every suggested media cashes.
    - Tried to render the sequences also without audio.
    - Tried to render as one pass.
    - Even if I try just to export ONE simple standard SONY PMW EX1 mp4 file which should never cause problems it chrashes, also without audio.
    - Also if I clean all preferences and caches before, EVERY file type crashes, no matter if I try to export a video or a still picture.
    - This is not happening in Adobe AME CS6 with the same files, but in CC!! CS6 still renders reliably with preview, but CC crashes without being able to show any preview.
    - Held the Shift key down while starting AME. This should reset preferences and so on...
    - Deleted suggested "7.0" directories as described in other forum posts concerning this topic.
    - Logged out of my CC account.
    - Deinstalled and reinstalled PPro, After Effects, InDesign, Flash, using Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. All is the newest version 7.2.
    - Set GPU renderer to "Software Only".  Some video cards have issues when GPU is set to "OpenCL" or "CUDA".
    - Checked updates available for video driver. Latest is installed.
    - Turned off "Enable Native Premiere Pro sequence import" in AME prefs.
    - AMEEncodingErrorLog.txt doesn't have any content, not a single line.
    NOTHING WORKED OR HELPED!

hey all, I have been getting the "cannot get mail" error message on my iphone5 suddenly.
ive been using iphone to check two email accounts for months now, one is gmail and not troubled. the other is mail from thunderbird and i get this error message now saying it is not responding. no settings have been changed or anything, it just suddenly stopped receiving mail on my device as of Tuesday afternoon.
Does anyone have iny ideas about why? i have yet to update to the new OS7 yet, could that be it?

'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

Here's a positive thing: Windows viruses can't run on OS X, but they can be transferred from OS X to other PCs (only if you have them on the OS X volume).

You could get a virus from a different source that infected Steam and Chrome without any problem. Viruses normally try to infect as many files and programmes as possible.

iPhones, iPads and iPods touch can't get viruses but they can transfer them to other PCs. For Windows, I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials

Ive had the BB curve for months now, all of a sudden I cant send pics, or LOG OUT of facebook, which leaves my phone wide open to anyone..

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

  • Trying to upgrade OS X Mavericks for months now.

It seems like I've been trying to upgrade to OS X Mavericks for months now. I keep getting this message -The file couldn’t be saved because you don’t have permission.(513). Why? And what can I do to fix this so that I can upgrade?

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Proceed to the following.
Reset User Permissions and ACLs in Lion/Mountain Lion
From the Utilities menu select Terminal. At the Terminal prompt enter: resetpassword. Press RETURN. When the window opens select your startup drive where it says "Select the volume containing the user account:" At the bottom of the window you will see, "Reset Home folder permissions and ACLs." Click on the Reset button.
See if this fixes your problem.

  • Safari 5.0.3/SL 10.6.4: Safari crashes for months now & makes me crazy

    Hello friends of the mac,
Safari makes me crazy. My system is quite stable, only Safari crashes regularly, for months now. Every day at least once or more often. Tried all usual procedures: permission repaired, harddisk OK, cache deleted etc. It goes on... Perhaps one good thing: it is always the same error message (relevant part follows).
System OS 10.6.4, Safari 5.0.3. As my workflow includes Safari, help is very, very appreciated!
    Every recommendations are welcome, really.

    Hi and welcome...
    OS Version: Mac OS X 10.6.4 (10F569)
That's not the complete crash report but not having your system software up to date can cause Safari to crash. The most recent Snow Leopard version is v10.6.6.
Click the Apple () menu (top left in your screen) Software Update ...
    Then repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done.
If you see any warnings re: SUID messages, they can be safely ignored, information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US

Restart your Mac and try Safari. If Safari continues to crash, post the lastest crash report but this time include the "binary images" section.
Safari crashes can also be due to third party Safari add-ons. Troubleshooting help here for that.

  • UCS B-series :enic driver version 2.1.1.41 is causing kernel panic for RHEL5.7

The enic driver version 2.1.1.41 which comes with driver iso ucs-bxxx-drivers.2.1.1a is resulting in Kernel panic for RHEL5.7
When RHEL5.7 OS is installed, the kernel version that gets loaded with the iso that I have is 2.6.18-274.el5 x86_64 whereas the kernel version expected by the enic driver provided by Cisco is  2.6.18-164.el5(supported distribution).  The Cisco documentation says : If kernel version does not match, the enic RPM cannot be installed.
The enic driver that comes with OS is  ver 2.1.1.9 whereas the one Cisco provides is ver 2.1.1.41 . The system crashes for non-matching distribution after loading the driver version 2.1.1.41 .

Have used Illustrator CS5 for months. now suddenly it won't work- says "insufficient memory to run application". Lenovo w700, windows vista. Illustrator CS4 works, Photoshop CS5 works, everything else is working fine, in fact they all get loaded together.
I found no solutions on the community board.
Can I remove Ill. CS5 without damaging  CS4, and then reinstall CS5?  And if so, then how do I reinstall it?
    This is not fun.

Nope, it opens a tiny little window, plus opening the floating tool menu
This time I did not use the desktop short cut, but used what should be the exec icon under program files, expanded the window and it worked!
Is this like taking my kid to the doctor-- I'm all better now daddy!

+Itunes could not connect to the Itunes Store. An unknown error has occurred (-3212).+
This pops up every single time I try to get to the Itunes Store. It's been like this for months now. I clicked on HELP to 'Run Diagnostics' and I have no issues with the connection, so I don't know what's wrong.
    I also can't check for upgrades. :\
I've looked everywhere on the Support page of Apple and I can't find the answer anywhere.
I'd greatly appreciate any help at all. Thank you!

I am getting the same error message -3212. I am still trying everything to try and solve the problem. If you figure it out post and let me know. I will do the same if I can get this stupid thing to work. Hopefully someone out there knows how to help. I even spent an hour on the phone with my ISP and they don't even know what the heck is going on!

  • Recurring kernel panics for the past 6 months - help!

    HI all,
So I purchased a non-manufacturer refurbished mid-2010 MBP about 6 months ago. It came with a 1TB hybrid SS/SATA drive and way more software than I will ever use(i.e. entire Adobe suite) but basically since I got it it's been restarting intermittently; black screen, restart, "your computer restarted because of a problem." It seems to particularly hate switching between apps (especially with Mission Control) and occasionally when composing a new email in Mail. I ignored this for  long time because I was a new Mac user but it is pretty **** irritating not being able to switch between apps easily or compose an email without restarting. It also gets ridiculously hot so I have temperature and fan control app installed that works pretty well; the hottest I've ever seen it is 92 degrees and the trackpad stopped working, but was fine after an hour or so of being switched off (I'm not sure how relevant this is, but additional information can't hurt right?)
    I check for updates daily; I've reinstalled from Time Machine and the problem is still there, and it carried over from Snow Leopard to Mavericks. I've seen some people recommending deleting drivers but I'm reluctant to interfere with stuff I don't understand for fear of breaking it completely. At this stage I genuinely cannot afford to get it fixed - I'm afraid that any Genius recommendations are going to be pricey and/or ineffective, so I'm open to suggestions.  Here is the most recent kernel panic log;

As a student I'm relying on my Mac for absolutely everything. If this can't be fixed then I'd like to know if it's going to get any worse, but if anyone could help me decipher the log and/or suggest a fix then I would be eternally grateful!

Two possibilities, the RAM needs replacing, with high quality RAM*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/badram.html
The GPU needs replacing, which means a logicboard replacement (expensive).
This is the risk you take with a non-Apple refurbished.   And unless you purchased it in 2011, it is unlikely you have any warranty, unless you purchased with a credit card a card that extends the warranty.

  • Kernel Panic Mac Pro now dead!!!

    Big problem here:
Kernel Panic - but system totally locked out of any key combination apart from Hardware test on Install Disk 1 (OS X 10.4). Hardware test (loop running 12 hours) finds NO problems.
Have swapped out RAM, swapped out HDD, tried to boot using install (shift key gives me the bootable options) but Kernel Panic at every attempt.
Nothing has been loaded extra, and even running with new HDD and RAM teh system still locks out in Kernel Panic.
Before sending this back to shop - any ideas out there??
Help would be massively appreciated guys - been using a Mac since 1988 - first time I've been stumped!!!!
Mac Pro Quad 3Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   also have Powerbook 12 "

    Hi Frank
thanks for the response - I will get onto the right forum as suggested for teh MacPro! Must have been finger trouble!
I have swapped out the RAM and the HDD - so I am left with Kernel code and PRAM (which has been zapped).
I will be buying my first diagnostices Apple software later today (Techtool Pro) and using a Firewire lead to remove all my files from the MacPro.
18 years of trouble free computing - using everything from a Mac Classic through all models (incliding a G5 - just sold) and never a problem I couldn't fix within twenty minutes.
Intel has a LOT to answer for and I am now considering a move away from Apple.
    cheers
    Frank
i hate to tell you that this part of the forum is for
the Macbook pro , not the Mac Pro

your problem could be from a bunch of things, you
went threw most of the process of elimination tho
and you haven't found a fix, my sudjestion would be
to take it to apple and have them repair or or
replace it. cause what ever that is its not sounding
    good.
so you removed all but one stick of ram and tried it
and if that fails take the other one out and put
another one back and test them all to see if they do
the same thing. also i have seen HDD's going bad
cause KP's is your firmware up to date
