Keyboard Shortcuts Changed?

How annoying is this?
I'm in the midst of a massive tag cleanup exercise (going on 9 days), I upgrade to iTunes 8.2, and all of a sudden, the "Go to the previous or next pane in the Get Info or Preferences window" shortcut no longer works!
According to Apple (I'm guessing they haven't updated it yet) it should work:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/tutorials/shortcuts.html
+Go to the previous or next pane in the Get Info or Preferences window+
+Command-click left bracket ( [ ) or right bracket ( ] )+
Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions around it?
Thanks,
D

I haven't downloaded the new update yet, so can't try it myself yet. But as an aside, have you done a Repair Permissions on your boot drive and also rebooted the computer after that since you did the update?

  • Expose Keyboard Shortcut Changes Don't Affect Slow-Mo

Because I use my F keys for working in the Adobe CS2 Suite, I have changed the Expose keyboard shortcuts to require the ctrl key.
However, this did not change the slow-motion Expose key combinations. For example: while the F10 Adobe shortcut now works on the Adobe App, when I try to use the Shift-F10 Adobe shortcut I still get the slow-motion Expose. I do not see that keyboard shortcut anywhere in the preferences menus, so I don't know how to re-map it.
I don't want to lose the slow-mo... I still want it because it still causes envy in my PC using friends! I just want to re-map it.
Can anyone give me a suggestion? Thanks.
PS: This brings up a suggestion: since Apple makes all their own hardware why not put in separate buttons or other hardware controls for Expose & Dashboard? If Microsoft can single-handedly get all their IBM cloners to put a Windows key on all their PCs (genius marketing in the guise of usability), I don't' see why Apple can't do the same with the hardware they design and manufacture (and their button would actually be useful!)

  • Default keyboard shortcuts changed

I had to safe boot my computer yesterday because my Mountain Lion update failed; after the update succesfully worked though, all of the shortcuts changed. I was able to change some of these shortcuts so that they work normally again (i.e. brightness shortcuts), however they keys F7 to the eject button do not work. I have the latest wireless keyboard and always have had the latest wireless keyboard for the iMac, and the keyboard has always been fully updated.
Could someone try and help me out?
    Thanks in advance!

You might wanna try resetting settings.

  • Mission Control keyboard shortcut problems

I have a problem with my keyboard shortcuts (changing space with Mission Control)
Sometimes they do not work... then I have to reset PRAM (using this guide http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379) and then it works again. Then after some time it fails again.
    Anyone having the same problem?

Just another quick update, the link above is not possible CSGO and other steam games do not allow you to define custom shortcuts.  I found an article on the web indicating that scripting this is not possible either as the plist you modify requires killing the mission control process entirely to reload the settings, and then doesn't remember the modification you make to the plist anyway.  This is a real pain, maybe I have to learn to deal with AWSD controls in FPS games if I intend to use the mac :-/

    I recently installed CS4.
Is there a new keyboard shortcut to load the Luminance mask?
Command+Opt+Shift+Tilde works fine with CS3 installed on this computer.
Here is what works for CS3

  • How to change keyboard shortcut for cycle through open tabs in PS and AI CC 2014

I would love to set my own keyboard shortcuts for cycling through open tabs in PS and AI 2014 on OS X. I found out that this can be achieved with ctrl+tab in PS, but I couldn't manage to make any of the suggestions in the forum work for AI. As said, I would like to set a more "standard" shortcut like alt+cmd+arrow-keys for both of the apps. If that shouldn't be possible, does anyone know a shortcut in AI CC 2014?
    Many thanks!
    Amadeus

Thanks! The shortcut can be set like this in AI, although all key combinations I would want to use are not allowed. Too bad. But anyways, thank you very much for the tip!
cmd+~ is not an option for me, I guess, since the swiss/german keyboard layout has no dedicated tilde key.
So, I have a working shortcut in PS (ctrl+tab / of which I still don't know how to change, if possible at all) and thanks to you, I can now set one in AI as well. Unfortunately, I can not set it to be identical as in PS, since the "cmd" key needs to be included in AI's shortcut assignment dialogue, but I guess, this is as good as it gets.

    rajlego,
in the Keyboard pane of System Preferences, select the Shortcuts tab, and then select Mission Control on the left-hand side. On the right-hand side, make sure that the Mission Control checkbox is checked, double-click on its current key combination (by default “^↑”) so that the key combination is highlighted, and then press the F3 button — that will set its shortcut to be F3. You can now press F3 to bring up Mission Control without needing to also press the Fn button.

  • How do I change the keyboard shortcut for Cycle through open documents in PS CC for Mac?

Sorry to bug the community with such a seemingly inconsequential task, but I am seriously tired of using the awkward default keyboard shortcut for cycling through open docs in PS.  I'd like to change it to what I am used in in Chrome, which is Cmd+Option+[left] or {right} arrow keys.  I noticed this is not a command listed in the in keyboard shortcuts, for whatever reason.  Where on Earth can I change this?
If it is not possible to do it by default, is there a plug-in or a change to the code that will allow this basic functionality?
    Thanks again guys and gals!

As far as I know, you can't. It's "hard wired" in.  Not even Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts is allowed  to change it.
However I did find this tip:
Anyway i never found tabs in Adobe application useful, instead i prefer the old school method: simply switch off tabs feature via illustrator/ preferences/ user interface/ open documents as tabs. Then in Mac preferences panel, under keyboard, just search for the “focus on next application window” field (under menu, keyboard and text) and assign a shortcut if the default option doesn't fit you. And there is now you can easily switch between open documents!.
The best part of this is that it can be used in all mac applications, not only Adobe ones. And remember, if you want this working on Indesign, Photoshop, etc be aware of first switch off the tab features so that the system could “see” multiple documents opened not only one single tabbed document.

  • Can I create a keyboard shortcut for changing text colors in Mail?

When composing an email in Mail (v5.2), I often have the need to change the text of a few words to red to highlight them (e.g. names of people assigned to an action item) but want to do it via keyboard shortcut.  I know I can do the following:
Press Command-Shift-C brings up to Colors panel
Choose the color (e.g. Red) with my mouse
    Type the text
Choose the color (e.g. back to Black) with my mouse
    Continue typing text
And that's if I want the color panel to stay visible (add at least 3 more steps all together if I close it in the interim).
I've tried using keyboard shortcuts to assign a color (couldn't find the right menu path) and Automator to create a script (the color panel always has to be in the right location which it may not be). None of those techniques work.
It's an annoyance more than anything else but I imagine it should be possible.
    Thanks for any assistance!
    John

Not only is this very possible, it's also very easy. You can do this not just for Quark but for any application in OS X. To accomplish what you want, do the following:
    * Firstly, quit QuarkXPress completely. The rest of the steps won't work if it is still running.
    * Go to the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
    * Click the Keyboard & Mouse System Preference Pane
    * Click Keyboard Shortcuts
    * Click the + button to add a new shortcut.
    * Select QuarkXPress as the application.
    * In the Menu Title field type "Place Name" exactly like that but without the quotes.
    * Click inside the Shortcut field and type the key combination you want to use for this shortcut. I suggest using Command + one of the F keys, like Command+F1.
    * Click Add.
    * Close System Preferences
    * Run Quark, open a document, and try it out!

  • I hate it when they change all the keyboard shortcuts. Is there a fix for these?

I don't understand why Adobe thinks that consistency is a bad thing, but it seems that everytime they update they go jerking with my keyboard shortcuts. Last time it was Indesign, this time it Photoshop that has me complaining. Usually I can change things back to the way I like under Edit/ Keyboard Shortcuts... but this time they've really done it.
Probably the 2 sets of shortcuts that I use the most over the last 15 years of using Photoshop, thus have become a natural reflex, when using the program are Toggling between CMYK channels via cmd-1,2,3&4, (sorry using cmd 3,4,5&6 is just completely unnatural) and Fit to Window (cmd-0). I cannot find a menu selection anywhere that would allow me to change these back, and Fit to Window has been completely removed from the view menu altogether! WTF?
I guess I could get used to the new channel key commands if need be, but no Fit to Window? what is this world coming to?
Anyone know of a workaround to this problem.

Heh...found the ad-copy I wrote for AccessPad Pro:
You're a power-user. The applications you work with do your bidding like YoYo Ma's Cello, like Perleman's violin, like Bill Evans' piano.
You've customized the way your applications openall the Tools and Palettes show up right where you like them. You may even have a few custom workspace arrangements for different purposes. You switch between them with a mouse click, and you're ready to go.
You've made brilliant use of Actions, Macros, Scripts and other built-in time- and effort-saving functions.
You know hundreds of keyboard shortcuts, and have spent time reassigning the defaults to more deftly meet your needs. You've assigned F-key shortcuts to some of those functions that don't even have shortcuts.
You're a power-user, but you've run up against a couple things that put a brick wall in front of your ever-increasing efficiency.
Firstyour keyboard is designed for typing actual text. It's been that way since the dawn of the first mechanical typewriters. The way the keys are arranged are meant to make it easy for your fingers to find the keys. Even if you use the arguably better Dvorak arrangement for key assignments. Even if you have one of those split-and-angled "ergonomic keyboards, they're still designed to do one thing well: Let the user type text as efficiently as possible.
Your keyboardwhatever the specieswas never meant to be an efficient, ergonomic way to access the shortcuts you depend on. For your current keyboardnay, ANY keyboardto perform optimally as a shortcut access device, you'd do well to have a third hand, or a freakishly long set of fingers that could bend 360 degrees in any direction.
SecondYour keyboard only allows a finite number of shortcuts. If you find yourself wishing and begging for just one more F-key, so you wouldn't have to get rid of some of your old shortcuts just to add a newly discovered "must-have", you're out of luck. It's about impossible to find one that has any more than 16 F-keys. Even if you could find a keyboard with more user-assignable keys, there's still the matter of the first problem, that is: How to reach them easily and quickly?
Forget all of those hassles, starting now.
The AccessPad Pro, by Phosergistics, is a computer peripheral designed from the ground up to allow youthe kings and queens of all power usersto have access to a virtually unlimited number of shortcuts. It sits on your desk, opposite the hand you use for operating your mouse. You rest your hand on it, in a comfortable relaxed manner. Notice where your thumb naturally falls. Right there, under your thumb, you find that there are buttons that replicated the Command & Option keys found on your keyboard. They can be pressed and activated independently or in tandem.
Under the heel of your hand is a somewhat larger button. Press down slightly, and you'll enable the same behavior as the Shift key on your keyboard.
Using your thumb and the heel of your hand you can enable 6 combinations of modifiers.
Now, look at your fingers. Beneath where they naturally rest on the AccessPad Pro you'll see six gracefully curved rows of buttons, 4 in each row. These buttons are arranged ergonomically, so the slightest curl of your finger can find and press any of the 24 buttons.
Let's do some simple math: 6 combinations of modifier keys, multiplied by 24 easily reachable, user-assignable function buttons...The AccessPad Pro gives you comfortable access to a whopping 144 shortcut assignments, all without moving your hand.
But that's not all. 144 shortcuts isn't enough for you? No problem. You can have a virtually unlimited number of these 144 shortcut sets, user assignable to work system-wide, or on a per-application basis, and you can load any set, any time you want. And because these custom shortcut assignments are written to a preset file using the industry standard XML scripting language, you can save these sets as tiny text files which you can share and trade with users on either the Mac or Windows platform.
You're a power-user. Forget about trying to grow a 3rd hand. Forget about wishing you hand foot-long fingers.
Use your mouse for moving your cursor.
Use your keyboard for typing text.
Use AccessPad Pro to speed up everything else you do on your computer. Try it for a week and you'll wonder how you ever worked without it.

  • What is the keyboard shortcut for changing dictation language in Yosemite?

I can't find the keyboard shortcuts to change the dictation language in Mac OS X?
I would really appreciate if someone help me with this problem. I work with two languages and I really can't find any way to do that.
    Thanks for your help guys

Until the developer can release dictationswitcher compatible with Yosemite, here is an AppleScript that will toggle between two languages. After it switches, it will speak which language has been set. Currently, the spoken text is in English (United States). This script will work on Yosemite and Mavericks. Tested.
What you need to do to get this to work.
Add your alternative language to the Dictation Language pop-up.Set your languages in the AppleScript property strings exactly as they appear in the Dictation Language Menu.
Copy/Paste the following AppleScript into your Script Editor (/Applications/Utilities).
    Click the hammer (compile) button
Save once as File format text (dictation.applescript) - don't hide the extension, or check any of the checkboxes.
Option+Save As… File format Application to your Desktop. Hide the extension, and check no other checkboxes.
The first time that you run this application, you will receive a dialog box just like the one below (I changed the name back to dictation):
Click Open System Preferences. Click on the gold lock button in the lower left corner. The Accessibility category will be selected, but the dictation application in the list of apps will be unchecked. Check it, and then click the gold lock again. Quit out of the dictation application on your Desktop, and run it again. If you happen to get another dialog indicating that it still does not have permission, revisit the System Preferences > Security & Privacy panel, and under the Privacy tab > Accessibility, uncheck the dictation application, and then recheck it again. Quit System Preferences. This happened to me, and following this second action allowed it to work properly.
Future releases of OS X may impact this application if Apple changes the order of the UI elements.
I modified this AppleScript from an Apple StackExchange post by qegal in 2012.
Copy/Paste the following AppleScript into your Yosemite Script Editor per the above instructions.
property defaultLang : "English (United States)"
    property altLang : "German (Germany)"
-- property altLang : "French (France)"
tell application "System Events" to set p to (path to frontmost application) as string

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

  • Wireless keyboard + Safari + Changing Keyboards shortcuts = ARRRGH

So I was wondering if anyone knew a way to change the shortcuts on the keyboard for Safari, specifically I would like to change the "Command-R" function which reloads the page to "F5". I have gone throught the whole keyboard shortcuts tab in system prefs (System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts) and added the safari menu command and my shortcut I wanted to add yada yada yada and nothing ever works no matter how many times I try or what I change. I am not sure whether or not the fact that I am the Apple Wireless keyboard has anything to do with this but I doubt it does. Any ideas?

  • What's a simple keyboard shortcut to change windows..?

    Hi everyone,
I'm using a Swiss keyboard and am trying to figure out if there is a simple shortcut for switching Safari windows. I've finally figured out the shortcut for changing tabs (Command-Shift-left or right arrow) but changing windows still eludes me.
    thanks for any help,

No, it's not the key (nor the method to make the symbol) which makes it work but your mentioning the Keyboard System Preference turned a light bulb on for me. I went through the list of Keyboard Shortcuts in System Preferences and found that Command-< was the shortcut to move focus to next window in active application. Thanks..
