Keychain access issue

Long story short.
In an attempt to fix this issue, just did a complete wipe and reinstall of OS X 10.4.5. So starting from a completely clean slate
Been trying to get into Keychain Access to view my password to access my Airport network. Not using Airport base station, just the built in card in my Mac Mini.
So get into Keychain, select System, select my network, click on show password, and get the "Confirm Access to Keychain" window. My admin password does not work. That is the only password that I have setup since I did a complete wipe. Why can't I get in?
Trying to do all this just to get my Kindle 4 and or Wii hooked into my wi-fi.  Starting to get really PO'D!

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Window Menu item,

If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

How do I fix Mountain Lion issue after login where Keychain Access attempts to open, hanging up with "application not responding" message?

You could try booting into Safe Mode to see if that will help. And "Repair Permissions" in Disk Utility.
Have you got Keychain set to open on Login or is it attempting to open on it's own.

  • Adding Keychain issue using Keychain Access - 10.3.9/eMac

I recently crashed and had to erase my 10.3.9 volume.
I'm trying to add a Keychain in a new system I installed, from a 10.3.9 library that I had backed up on a DVD, using Keychain Access. When I navigate to the Keychain folder on the DVD in the "add Keychain" dialog box, the Keychain in the folder is greyed out. The icon for that file on the DVD looks different too...it's a landscape orientation rectangle that says "exec" on it. The current Keychain has a generic document icon.
    Thanks for any help

    Hi
Did you export your key chain when you had the old system, or just backed it up?
I haven't tried this but what if you tried to copy the entire backed up copy of keychain over to its natural location on the new disk. It is owned by system, so you will be asked for password confirmation, but i think it is possible to do it in this rough way than through adding to the existing key chain (which it doesn't want to do)
And you will need to remove the existing one first as it may resist being overwritten.
This is speculative, but if you are brave it may successful.

  • Mail & Mavericks & Keychain Access

    Hello,
After updating to Mavericks (from Mountain Lion), I noticed that there's a new keychain called "local items" inside Keychain Access App.
so I have a couple of questions regarding this and my usage of Mail:
    1) from what I read in this forum, "local items" is the keychain created by Mavericks, it should sync to the login keychain (which is usually, and certainly in my case, the default keychain, meaning it is in bold face on the left hand side of the Keychain Access window). And as far as I understand, if you have icloud enabled, this keychain would be called "icloud keychain", if not, it will remain the name "local items", is this correct? I do not want to have anything to do with icloud, so I don't have any icloud keychain. When I log into the my account on the mac both the login and the "local items" keychain are unlocked (I guess this makes sense if they are supposed to be synced. So basically this is my understanding of this "local items" keychain, please correct/inform me if this understanding is not correct.
    2) now, I noticed that the passwords that I typed in for my e-mail accounts (set up in Apple's Mail) are saved inside this "local items" keychain. So everything seems to be fine. However, I noticed that the passwords saved inside this "local items" keychain cannot be edited in the "access control" panel (this is accessed by double clicking the password item and click on the "access control" tab.) This is odd because all the other items in the "login" keychain can be edited in this way.
    3) so my main goal is to ask Mail to NOT remember my password (I know this is not the prefer setting for most users, but I prefer to have it this way). In Leopard, Mail had a little checkbox where you set up your account that asks the application to NOT remember the password. This is really handy because it prompts me to re-enter the password whenever I restart the application, which is exactly what I want it to behave. But since upgrading to Mountain Lion (I'm not sure how it is in Snow Leopard or Lion, as I jumped from Leopard straight to Mountain Lion, and now to Mavericks), this box has disappearred. I found a work around online. Before Mavericks, the mail account passwords are saved (if I remember correctly) in the login keychain, the work around works by saving (i.e. dragging) all your email  passwords into a separate/new keychain (let's call it Keychain A) which has a different password than your login keychain (which, by definition, is unlocked upon login). So I set this up and Mail automatically knows to prompt me to enter the password for Keychain A in order to access my e-mail account passwords. This doesn't behave exactly like unchecking "remember the password" box in Leopard, but it comes close. and I was happy with this work around. However, now having upgraded to MAvericks, Mail insisted on using "local items" as keychain, and keeps asking me the passwords for my e-mail accounts (NOT the  local item keychain password, since my local item keychain IS synced up with Login keychain, therefore they are both unlocked upon me logging in) so that it can store them. The thing is I do NOT want the e-mail passwords to be stored inside "local items" keychain (because I don't want account access to equal e-mail access (for reasons I do not want to get into, but I feel like this is not too much to ask and was possible before so why not now?).
Could someone please help me out with this?  I've called Apple, and they were quite annoyed with me because the person I talked to keeps saying that I'm not using keychain for the way it is suppoed to be used, but my question then, is, if I canot get applications to use special keychains I set up, what's the use of the function "add new keychain" inside keychain access?  (in fact, the phone supporter basically keep saying "I don't know" to my questions and finally offered me to talk to a senior advisor, at that point I had to leave (and after 1hour on the phone I was quite fed up anyway). so I thought I should turn to the forum.....
    so a recap/summary:
my login and local items keychain sync up fine
but I don't want Mail to store my e-mail passwords in the local items keychain
I want to make Mail use another keychain (i.e. a keychain I set up myself), can we possible to this?
or another other work around that will make Mail to prompt me to enter passwords when I fire up the application (not constantly, but just when I restarting the application, OR after the computer wakes up)
    I'd appreciate any pointers!
    thank you very much!
    sakura

I have the same concerns.  I'm frustrated that the Mail app doesn't currently allow you to use a separate keychain for the passwords.  After many years with Keychain I am being tempted to look to a third party.  Or perhaps it's time to look for a third party mail app?  This is a security issue since email is the primary way that a password change is verified with other accounts.

  • Create a Distribution Certificate as a p.12 file in Keychain Access not working?

I need to create a Distribution Certificate as a p.12 file. I downloaded my ios_distribution.cer file from iOS Provisioning Portal/Certificates/Distribution/Download but this file will not install on my Keychain Access Certificates. Once installed I need to export as .p12. Why can't I install this .cer file to my keychain access? Thanks

Hi EDUR142, did you find a way round this? If so, please let me know.
I currently can see that these certificates are there in Keychain Access under System'Certificates'.
However in System'Keys' the relevant keys are not there. And in Login'Keys' there are 4 keys that might be the correct ones: 2 public keys, 2 private keys. BUT they do not have an arrow on the left so I cannot see if the correct certificate is associated with them (as it described in the Adobe step by step guide to DPS pg19).
If this is simliar to your issue last year, and you found a solution, pls reply. Thank you.

  • Keychain Password issues

I have search here and haven't found the answer. On every MM sync, I get a keychain dialogue that says "Enter the password for your user account on "Steve's Computer". The file that is trying to access the KC is "kcsync". The user account PW doesn't work. I have booted from the install DVD and reset the password for this account. No joy. I can unlock the system and login keychains without problems. Any other thoughts as to how to resolve this keychain problem?

Thanks for finding that Stephen, I've been trying to fix that for ages!
@ baltwo, this is a Keychain syncing issue, so it is perfectly acceptable to be in the 'Using Leopard' or 'MobileMe' forums. There's no need to be snappy if someone doesn't do something how you'd like.

  • Why won't the proxy settings be created in the keychain access?

    Hello,
I'm having an issue with an iMac that won't keep the proxy settings saved. My company has proxy settings active to use the internet and for some reason they will not stick. I noticed that the keychain access is not creating this internet password and I also noticed it's only happening for a certain user only. In the administrator profile, the keychain is working perfectly fine so I narrow it down to the profile issue. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

Network settings apply to all users on the system. Administrator privileges are required to change them.

  • How do I unlock keychain access?

I keep getting popups requestiing keychain password. I tried to reset it to my log in password. Still doing the same thing. It is very annoying even though it disappears when I hit cancel. This just started in the past two weeks, and I have had my MacBook Pro for one year. I reset the login password a month ago.

  • Mail.app blocked from Keychain access by Sandboxd

Working on a clean install of Yosemite. Worked perfect for the first 2 weeks. Then mail all of a sudden cannot send without putting in admin creds for keychain access. I have done all the keychain resets, removed the account and re-added it. Obviously there has to be a way to add an application to trusted status for Security Server/sandbox to allow it access. The question is where and how.

for mi this is a big problem i can't lost every my keys
    help me please

    OK, let's try this...
Create a new User go to System Preferences > Users & Groups > "+" (make it an admin acct) and test the apps in this new account, if they work the problem is isolated to your User and not systemwide.
If the issue is limited to your user account try starting up in Safe Mode  (It will take more time to startup because it runs a directory check.)
If your Keychain functions correctly that way, go to Keychain menu and "Rebuild Keychain. If not go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to/Users/yourname/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving/Users/yourname/Library/Fonts to your desktop.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
    * Again, Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library"

  • Asking for password for keychain access, but won't accept my password... What's up with this?

Restarted my MacBook just now and it's got a continuous stream of pop ups asking for password for keychain access, won't accept my password, won't go away (cancel), any suggestions.

    Hello Al323,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Keychain Access on your Mac.  I found a couple of articles I suggest for the issue you described.
Your keychain uses your the same password as your login password.  If it is not accepting that password, I recommend running the Keychain First Aid using the steps in this article:
Mac OS X 10.6: Solving problems with keychains
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7296
If you are still repeatedly seeing a prompt to enter your Keychain Access password, you may need to reset your keychain.  This will create a new keychain so any saved passwords on the old keychain will not be available, and you will need to enter them when accessing sites for the first time again.  Follow the steps in the article below to create a new keychain:
OS X: Keychain Access asks for keychain "login" after changing login password
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1631
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • Keychain access - deny

When I checked the "Show password" box for one thing listed in my Keychain access, I accidentally selected "Deny" and now it won't show me the password.   Is there a way I can undo this?
    Thanks

Hello, clicking Deny here doesn't do anything permanent, just tried it & clicking Show Oassword againg brings up the same options to show or deny & filling in shows it.
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Window Menu item.

  • What is the key to Keychain Access?

Having recently used Target Disk Mode to successfully rescue my files and reinstall them, I was feeling pretty pleased with myself … BUT! When I went to checkout Keychain Access I found I could only remember the password for the keychain I had created to keep track of the many different Username/Password combinations I have collected over time. I couldn't unlock my "login" keychain.
Since most login details were itemised in the "~" keychain (as mentioned), I thought I would simply Reset the "login" keychain. I must have had the"~" keychain selected, because it disappeared and I ended up with two "login" keychains showing in Keychain Access!
Somehow after that when I went looking, trying to figure out what had gone wrong, and seeking to delete one of the two "login" keychains, they both disappeared from Keychain Access and I was left with no one but two "System" keychains showing.
At this point I decided to leave 'bad enough' alone and see if someone in the Apple Discussions community can put me right. I should point out that in my ~/Library/Keychains folder there are three files: "login.keychain", "~.keychain" and "MicrosoftIntermediateCertificates"; none of which appear in Keychain Access. Why is this so and is there a way to persuade the OS to accept them back again. I note that when I click on File>Import, they appear 'dulled' and cannot be selected - even when dragged to the desktop.
Yes I love my Mac … but sometimes the relation gets a bit strained.

Not sure how we're going to get out of this, but a few links...

  • Cant sign into icloud and keychain access crashes on opening

I have recently experienced very frustrating glitches in my iMac's operability (2011 model, 1TB hard disk and recent upgrade to 12GB RAM to overcome very slow running).  The machine runs OSx 10.9.5.  I cannot sign into iCloud on this machine (although my iPan and iPhone both work) and every time I open Keychain access it crashes.  Sorry to post 2 issues in one thread, but I have never experienced these before and wonder if  they are  related?

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.keychainaccess.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart the computer, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
What happens when you try to sign into iCloud?
