Keyword setup and searching...

Hello,
I'm looking for an example of the best way to set up keyword
searching in CF. I'm using CF 7 with just an Access 2k3 database.
The application is a document management system for storing
and searching PDF's, Word files, Powerpoint files, etc. I'd like to
have the upload form give the user a choice of about 6 or so
keywords to choose from. There would also be a description field,
author, product name, and doc type. Just the keyword search and
storage of these values is what I'm curious about.
I know that Verity would be able to search the documents
themselves but that's not quite what I'm looking for. If possible
I'd also like a way to 'score' search results to better place
higher matches.
Any help is appreciated.

Yes, this is a bug. I suspect the developers never considered that Users would have so many keywords.
There is a workaround. Use Keyword Manager to manage your keywords, and to search with them too. It has significant advantages over the inbuilt keywording mechanism.
nor does Apple allow me to simply type in a keyword for search purposes.
Yes it does. Just type the keyword in the Search Box. You don't even have to select Keyword from the Drop Down.
Thanks Apple!
I'm sure they'd say "You're Welcome!"
Can I submit bug reports online to Apple? No - you have to be in their developer program for that it seems.
No, you can do it simply enough using the iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback command.
Thanks Apple!
I'm sure they'd say "You're Welcome!" for that too.
neither of those problems will directly give you revenue Apple
Oh, you seem to think you're talking to Apple here, haven't you read the Terms of Use? You agreed to them when you signed up and there's a link to them on the right hand side of every page. As they explain, this is a forum for Users to discuss technical issues with other Users. Apple's developers aren’t here. They don’t promise to read anything here. To reach Apple use the Feedback link above.

  • Smart Albums and Search ignoring tags / keywords

Why is it that once images are imported into PE7, and if their keywords and tags are edited in an external editor (eg. Picasa, Photoshop), PE7 doesn't seem to recognize these new keywords/tags in Search or Smart Albums?!
The weird thing is, if I open/activate these newly edited files, I can see in thier properties that the new keywords/tags can be read by PE7, but these descriptions don't show up as matching results when we do a search box or smart albums.
    What is going on?
On the other hand, Picasa will read, update and pick up any tags and keywords that have been entered in PS7, almost instantly. Why can't PE7 do this???

It's a design limitation of PSE.  When you first import an image into PSE, it will read the metadata from the image's file (keyword tags, date/time, caption, notes, star rating) and store it in your catalog (the database where PSE stores all of its information about your images).  Once the image is imported into your catalog, PSE will never read that metadata again, so if you change it with an external tool, PSE won't see those changes.
As you've observed, a number of other programs will track changes made to a file's metadata, including Windows Live Photo Gallery and Adobe Lightroom.

Fonts are handled by your operating system and installed through the respective System Control panel (Windows) or Fontbook (Mac). On Windows simply type "Fonts" in the search bar in the start menu and when you open the panel/ folder use File --> Add Font. On Mac the procedures are similar, you just need to find the Fontbook app in Applications:Utilities.

  • How to use Multiple Keywords in a Search Form?

I'm currently using a bind variable on the view object to generate a search form where the user enters one keyword that is applied to the WHERE cause of the SQL query.
The problem is I'm trying to implement a Google-type search, where the user can enter multiple keywords in a single text input area. I then want to parse out those keywords and search the database on each keyword (similar to a Google search.) Can someone please help me point me in the right direction as to where / how to code in the appropriate hooks to accomplish this?
    Example:
(user input) Enter Search Keywords: keyword1 keyword2 keyword3.. keywordn
    database query:
Select item from table where (desc like '%keyword1%') or .. (desc like '%keywordn%') or
(category like '%keyword1%') or .. (category like '%keywordn%')

Can't you parse what was entered and create a number of view criteria rows, then apply them? At that point, they would be 'OR'd together'.

  • Storing and searching XML in CLOBs

Speaking to an oracle employee at the Oracle booth at JavaOne
recently. They suggested I store XML in CLOBs
and use the DOM or SAX to reparse the XML later as needed.
I agreed that this was the best solution for my problem
(which was how to manage many different XML documents using many
different DTDs in a document management system)
The big problem was searching this document repository
    to locate relevant information.
This is where Intermedia seemed ideal (still does).
It would be nice to see an example of setting this up using
Intermedia in Oracle 8i, demonstrating how to define the
XML_SECTION_GROUP and where to use a ZONE as opposed to a FIELD
    etc.
Anybody care to take a shot at this ????
    For example:
How would I define Intermedia parameters
so that I would be able to search my CLOB
column for records that had the <keyword>
"aorta" and "damage" in the <caption>
    using the following
    XML (DTD implied)
    <image filename="OurImageName.gif">
    <fname>WellKnownFileName.gif</fname>
    <keyword>echocardiogram</keyword>
    <keyword>aorta</keyword>
<caption>This is an image of the vessel damage</caption>
    </image>
    Thanks

Upcoming 8.1.6 version allows searching within
    attribute text. That's something like:

We're working on attribute value sensitive search,
    more like:
    dog within book[@author = "Eric"]

    options:
    * use XML section group instead of basic section group
if your tags have attributes or you need case-sensitive
    tag detection
    * use zone sections instead of field sections if your
sections overlap, or if you need to distinguish
between instances. For instance, keywords. If keywords
    is a field section, then
    (aorta and echocardiogram) within keywords
finds the document. if it is a zone section, then it
doesn't, because they are not in the SAME instance of
    keywords.

Is Oracle right technology for it? I heard about Intermedia. Is it a product from Oracle suite which does that.

    Vitthal,
Oracle8i Release 2 and beyond support Intermedia Text searching with automatic support for XML document searching using hierarchical searches.
The syntax to phrase the queries is presently
designed after the SQL99 Multimedia facilities and uses a CONTAINS() predicate with a query syntax that is not syntactically XPath, but which can accomplish many of the most useful kinds
of path queries that XPath lets you do over
large numbers of documents very fast.
For example, an XPath query like:
    contains(/Resume/JobSkill,'Java')
    would be:
    CONTAINS( clob_col_with_xml_doc,
    'Java WITHIN JobSkill WITHIN Resume')
Chapter 13 of "Building Oracle XML Applications" covers searching XML documentst with Intermedia Text, its query syntax, its index setup, and compares and contrasts its functionality with equivalent XPath syntax to achieve the most common types of queries you'll want to do.
We also have online documentation on Intermedia hosted here on the OTN site, but the documentation is more general and focuses on all of the intermedia text facilities.
    Hope this helps.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

  • Initial setup and Open Directory problem

    Hi,
I'm new to the MAC OS X server system and trying to get one up and running on a G5.
Unfortunately I can’t get the configuration up and running, and I have the feeling it already goes wrong during the initial setup. I was hoping you guys could help me out.
The purpose of the server is providing network user accounts (DNS + Open Dir.) and providing sharepoints.
I go trough following steps while installing from scratch:
    - Install MAC OS X and run the Server install package from the OS X Server DVD (as you know, OSX Server is'n installing directly on G5)
    - Choose keyboard layout, enter license and create an account "admin"
    - Define static IP "192.168.1.1", add this IP as the first in the list of DNS Servers, add "company.local" in the search domain
    - Install as a standalone server (so I can configure dns & other network services after basic setup)
    - Check "network time server" (so time will be synced for Kerberos)
    - Proceed, install and reboot
OSX Server seems to be installed fine and I can login with "admin". Next step I take is configuring DNS.
    - create a zone "companyname.local.", use my IP as server address (192.168.1.1) and use "server" as the server name.
    - add a machine record for DNS-testing (called "gateway", with the IP of "192.168.1.254")
Start the DNS service and reboot
    - perform an nslookup with a second MAC with 192.168.1.1 as the nameserver and verify that DNS is resolving correctly.
DNS seems to be working fine, now I would like to get the Open Directory service to work:
    - change "Standalone" to "Open directory master" in the server configuration panel
    - provide a password for the directory admin
    - use "SERVER.COMPANYNAME.LOCAL" as kerberos realm, and "dc=server,dc=companyname,dc=local" as the search base
    - Save & start the service and perform a reboot to be sure all the new settings are in use
Unfortunately after this install open directory doesn't seem to work fine and also Kerberos doesn't start.
Concerning Kerberos: I get following output in the "Slapconfig log" Open Directory log file:
    Starting LDAP server (slapd)
    command: /usr/bin/ldapadd -c -x -D uid=root,cn=users,dc=maggie,dc=interesourcegroup,dc=local -w **
    Hostname server.companyname.local is from Rendezvous
    Skipping Kerberos configuration
Sorry to bother you with the entire walkthrough of the installation, but I have the feeling that I'm missing something while performing the basic install or DNS setup .. ?
    Regards,
    Seppe
    G5 Mac OS X (10.4.6) /

We currently have a static IP and a public dns hosted
by MediaTemple, so I think I can create a subdomain
on MediaTemple and link it to our fixed IP address
("private.companyname.com" >> static ip) instead of
    using dydns.. ?
    Of course.
I suppose I can then use "private.companyname.com" as
the zone name on my G5 server and use
    "server.private.companyname.com" for my local DNS?
    Sounds reasonable.
If using this DNS, what will be the Kerberos REALM
and Search Base? And do I still need to specify
private.companyname.com as the Search Base in the
Network Settings of the clients and server?
Well, REALM and LDAP Search Base can set to whatever you like. On the other hand I've seen tools contacting kerberos servers break when the REALM is not part of the kerberos server fqdn.
So I'd stick with the usual recomandations and set kerberos REALM to your domain name (if there is no other kerberos server alread running and using this).
For the LDAP search domain I'd also follow the road of using domain name space as search base.
When dns will finally be setup properly, these setting will be autopopulated for you in the GUI. So test, test, test you dns with
host $ip and host $fqdn and then go on promoting "Standalone Server" to "Open Directory Master".

  • Entering keywords, title and description in EW4

I recently had to re-install EW4 on m y computer and seem to remember that there is a feature for adding keywords, title and description. Am I wrong? If not, can you tell me how to access that function? I can't find it on the menu.
    Thanks,
    Ron

First, skip keywords. They are not used by search engines anymore.
You can just add the title and description to your page in Code View, but you can also right-click inside Page View and select Page Properties.   Fill in the title and description; ignore the keywords.

  • Keyword Bugs and Some Keywording Improvement / Feature Suggestions

Tagging Bugs and Some Improvement / Feature Suggestions
Please excuse where I should use the word Tag or Keyword or vice versa!
    1.       BUG?    If a tag synonym is added or changed then all affected photos should be marked for re-publish.  I do not think this currently happens.   Should this possibly be considered a bug?
    2.       BUG?    When viewing a smart collection in a Flickr publish service and a new tag is added to a photo it is correctly moved to the “requires re-publish” section.   However … the thumb selection in the grid moves to the next photo, the loop view remains on the photo just tagged and the key wording still reflects the just tagged photo.    The selection shown in the grid appears to be wrong.      When working quickly this can result in tagging errors as the user looking on the grid believes he is working on the next highlighted photo in the grid.      This is surely a bug?
    3.       BUG?      A minor point and I realise this is probably not the correct way to do things … but a double word synonym entered with quotes for example “Ice Climbing” will create two tags “Ice” and “Climbing” at the flicker end of things.    Removal of this synonym and forcing a re-publish does not delete these two tags at the flicker end of things.    I may have miss-understood, but perhaps it is best for LR not to allow quoted tags?
    4.       SUGGESTION      An easier and more powerful way to review tagging of current photos should be provided whereby it is possible to clearly see the current tagging of a photo and have immediate access to the keyword list at the same time to make corrections.    Having both the Keywording and Keyword List panels open in Library mode results in a lot of up and down scrolling for me and is a slightly inelegant UI in my opinion.   I would suggest it should at very least be possible to have the tags viewable in Loop info as an option - so long as no truncation is made and all tags visible.    Ideally a better way should be sought.
    5.       SUGGESTION      It would be very useful when reviewing tagging to select to show all photos in the currently selected folder or set which do not contain the selected tag.    Note, I don’t think this can be easily achieved by using a keyword filter and selecting all keywords and unselecting the tag of interest as the pictures may have many tags.    The same might be performed by textual based searches but this is inelegant and its slowness precludes a browsing approach.     For example – for me it would be useful to look at all my mountain shots in a trip which have not been tagged with “Glacier” and it will be immediately visually apparent where I need to make tagging corrections.    I would suggest a “Not” checkbox is made available on the top of each column in the library filter – this may also provide a great deal of power for other situations.
    6.       SUGGESTION      It would be useful to allow a means of showing all pictures with a certain tag but which have not been tagged yet with any children of said tag.   For example all pictures tagged with Glacier which I have not yet named the glacier by introducing a relevant child tag or selecting an existing child tag.    A similar situation occurs for wildlife and potentially many other scenarios … I would like to use a tag “Butterfly” which I can quickly use on my first pass… and then do the identification and child tagging on a second pass using appropriate filtering.   This allows for a step wise or “top down” approach to tag classifying things in a workflow.    I appreciate this can be achieved (as I do now) by using a child tag called “Unnamed butterfly” or “Unnamed Glacier” but it seems more powerful, elegant and generically applicable to be able to filter on a “not tagged with a child” basis.
I apologise if I have missed the point on some existing functionality on any of these points and welcome any suggestions.

    This is a great post.
I couldn't have written it myself better.
I'm also in dying need of Korean input as I can't communicate with my Korean friends.
    But I second every point.
I hope the tech teams are reading this.

  • Embedding tags in files for viewing and searching in other software

    Hi,
I'm a bit confused about how tags are associated with files.  I recently transferred all my photos to a new computer and lost some, but not all, the tags I had added to my photos within Elements Organiser.  I am in the process of archiving all my old family photos by scanning slides, negatives and prints. I'm working on a Windows computer.  Most are being saved as TIFFs but I also have JPEGs and RAW files.  I want future generations of my family to be able to search these photos by using first name tags for example.  They may not have Photoshop.  My daughter uses a Mac and different software.
I see that under the File menu there is an option 'write keyword tags and property info to photo'.  Will this save this info so that it can be found and searched in other types of software?  If so, does this apply to all types of photo files?
And another quick similar question - when I change the date of the photo under the thumbnail in Organiser is this saved to the file?
Thnaks for any help you can give me.
    Stuart Logan

I think you are confusing the value and purpose of JPGs vs TIFFs vs RAWs.
You always (that's always) save your originals. These are either the photos straight out of the camera, or straight out of the scanner. You may choose to make other versions of these photos for other purposes.
So ... keep your originals. Keep your edited versions. When you need to send photos to somewhere else, you can make JPGs of them, and send them (after which time you could delete the JPGs if you want). If space is a problem, the generally accepted wisdom is that hard disk space is cheap, that 1 terabyte hard drive are well under 100 dollars US; so the optimal strategy is to get extra hard disk space rather than delete the originals.
Regarding the codecs that enable you to see the RAW photo thumbnails in Windows: these will NOT allow you to see the edits you make in ACR/PSE. Nor does it help to allow you to search for keywords in DNG files. You have hit upon a disadvantage to using DNG versus RAW; if you use RAW, the tags get written to a sidecar (text) file, and these are searchable using Windows. If you use DNG, the tags are embedded into the DNG file, and are not searchable using Windows (although somewhere in the back of my mind, I thought I had heard that you can configure Windows to search for tags in DNG files, but the details, if this is true, escape me).

  • Knowledge search:  Highlight the KEYWORD  which we search,

How to highlight the found “keyword” of the searched results after the Knowledge Search” has been performed.

    Hi,
in our system the KA knowledgebase was not available by default.
We had to create it using the wizards.
To do this, go in SPRO to Software Agent Framework and choose activity 'Name and configure knowledge base'.
Concerning the data you have to enter- If I remember right, only the name KA is important, the rest can be left unchanged.
After this, you have to go on and create an index for KA using 'Configure Compilation', and last but not least add the KA to the relevant applications. In our case this is ICWebClient.
    Hope it works,
    Cheers
