Keywords in filter

It seems the keywords/labels I created myself and that are displayed on the bottom right are not displayed in the filter panel under ´keywords´. In stead there are a bunch of keywords displayed I never created, but other people did for their photos, I once downloaded.
So how do I get my own keywords displayed under filter, and how can I remove other keywords displayed there that I don´t like?

  • Hierarchical Keywords in Filter

    Hello Everyone!
I have just moved from Windwos PSE8 with Organizer to PSE8 on Mac with Adobe Bridge. I am trying find my way in the Bridge application. Have searched and watched many videos on it over the internet but I still have one thing that is driving me nuts.
I realized that I could inport and understand my hierarchical keyword structure and have them showed up in the keywords panel (or whatever it is called) in an hierarchical way).
But when I try to use filter and filter my photos based on the keywords I can only see the deppest level word. For example, if I hava a Category of WildLife/Animal/Cat I can only see the keyword "cat". I may have another keyword like Toys/Fabric/Cat and in this case if I only specify the "cat" keywork I will end up with photos from both real and toy cats....
How can this be handled? One of the features that I loved from Organizer was the ability to seach based on differente hierarchical keywords.
    Thanks a lot.
    Paulo

iPhoto doesn't support hierardhical keywords.  Only Aperture does. We don't know what Apple's plans are for updates to iPhoto as we're just users like yourself but you can put in a feature request to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.

  • Remove Keyword from Filter dialog box help

When I imported my iPhoto library of about 5,000 photos Aperture created two keyword filters (visible when I open the FILTER dialog box and select "All Images" under the main Project Library. It created "iPhoto Edited" and "iPhoto Original" keywords. each of my imported iphoto photos had one of the keywords attached to them. I found originally that filtering through all images took forever - so I removed these two keywords from all of the imported iPhoto files.
Question: how do I remove these two keywords from the FILTER dialog box? Note that these two keywords do not appear in the Keyword HUD at any time.

    Here is the code:
    var cResponse = app.response({ cQuestion: "Enter the Month & Year of Published Ad (i.e. August 2008)", cTitle: "Published Ad"});
    if (cResponse == null) app.alert("Process Cancelled");

  • Deleting keywords in filter HUD

I have many keywords in my aperture filter HUD that I want to delete -- like typos and keywords I no longer use. I know how to delete them from the keyword HUD, but I can't figure out how to delete them from the filter HUD that pops up when I try to create a smart album. Can anyone tell me how to delete keywords from the filter HUD? Also I have duplicate keywords from importing from iphoto, so the filter HUD will list as separate keywords: soccer (iPhoto) and soccer. I would like to have just one keyword for soccer.
    Thanks for the help.

Thanks, but my Mac doesn't have a backspace key and delete doesn't work. Is there something else I should be pressing?
William was referring to the Keyword HUD (and on my MBP, "{fn}+{delete}" equals backspace). There is a "Delete Keyword" button in the tool-strip located in the bottom border of the Keyword HUD.
Kirby, I understand that your suggestion will help me get the right keywords in the right places, but how can I delete keywords in the filter hub?
This is not how Aperture works. Use the Keywords HUD to manage Keywords. The Filter HUD dynamically shows Keywords. You cannot add, delete, move, or in any way administer Keywords from the Filter HUD.
Even if there are no photos to which that keyword is assigned it still appears in the filter HUD -- I have used smart albums to find all photos assigned to a keyword and deleted the keyword from each one so there are no photos that have that keyword, but it still appears in the filter HUD.
    1. Make sure you aren't filtering your view in any other way. Be sure to flush your entire trashway (rejected, Aperture Trash, system Trash).
    2. Sometimes Aperture takes several moments to catch up on changes. You can force a re-filter by selecting another Keyword, then re-selecting the one you want. I don't know if this forces a refresh of the Keywords in the Filter HUD. You might have to make another selection in the Library tab of the Inspector, then return to your previous selection and re-pop-up the Filter HUD.
    3. If you want to remove all instances of a Keyword, delete it from the Keyword HUD. There is no reason to hunt it down and remove it from every Version to which it is applied.
    4. Regularly, and especially if you migrated photos from iPhoto, you will end up with two Keywords with the same name (they are located at different levels of the Keyword hierarchy. Use the Keyword HUD to merge them (by dragging and dropping). "Dog", "Animals>Dog", and "Animals>Domesticated>Four-legged>Household>Dog" are each distinct Keywords to Aperture.

  • Filter for NOT [keyword]?

I cannot find any DIRECT way to Library Filter for photos NOT containing a particular "keyword."  The work-around through Text/Keywords/Don't Contain doesn't work for me because many of my "keywords" contain spaces (multiple "words").  Since there doesn't seem to be any "quotation" option in the text-search box, what I get is a search that ORs together each "word" of my multi-word "keyword."
I've discovered that I can get around this problem by first making a Quick Collection from all of my positive filter criteria, then selecting the photos from that Quick Collection with the undesired (negative) "keyword" (for example, by clicking on one of my "keywords" in the Keyword List/Filter Keywords column), and finally removing these selections from the Quick Collection.
Alternatively, I can Rename my "keywords," replacing all spaces with hyphens, underscores, or whatever, and then use the Text/Keywords/Don't Contain filter.
There should be a more direct method.  Am I missing something? -- JClarkW

I'm afraid you didn't understand the OP right.
He has 3 images with the following keywords:
    aaa
    bbb
    "aaa bbb"
He wants to exclude #3 only. He doesn't want to exlude neighter #1 nor #2.
    Your method will exclude:
    !aaa - #1 and #3.
    !bbb - #2 and #3.
    !aaa !bbb - #1, #2 and #3.
So, it doesn't work. With the current search implementation it is impossible to achieve what the OP wants.

  • "and" function in filter in Bridge?

I give multiple keywords to my pictures, such as name of person and date taken. If I want all pictures of person A of date X and cross the relevant keywords in filter, I get ALL the pictures of person A as well as ALL the pictures taken on date X. This means that the filter works in the "or" mode. How do I get it to work in the "and" mode: only the pictures of person A taken on date X? Thanks for an answer.

Thanks Curt, that seems to work, but it is some trouble when the easier filter function is there. However, I found another possibility. First, there is a separate list with dates. If I make an own list with names and also cross off the date, then the filter works as "and". It is also possible to make an own dates list, but then it should be in another list than the names. Filter works in "or" mode within one list and in the "and" mode across lists. If I understood this correctly. Any confirmation would be welcome.

  • Library filter presets not working correctly across catalogs

I am having a trouble with Library Filter Presets that are shared between catalogs.  I like to set up presets that filter on specific keywords.  For example, I have a preset called "Label - Project 365" which turns on the keyword metadata filter and searches for "Project 365".
All is fine and dandy from within the catalog in which I actually created the preset.  When I switch to the other catalog, though, the preset does not filter for the keyword "Project 365".  In fact, it turns on the keyword metadata filter but does not appear to select any of the keywords at all.  If I click on the proper keyword in the metadata filter (in this case, "Project 365") and update the preset, then it works fine on this "second" catalog... but as a result it will no longer work correctly in the original catalog.
Has anyone else come across this behavior?  Any pointers on how I might correct it?  Thank you for your time.

A bit more information if it helps.  When I look in the filter preset file itself, this is what I see.  I really don't know how to interpret everything here.  There is an entryt for "columnBrowserDesc" that contains an integer for "selections".  Perhaps this is how it is identifything the keyword of interest?  If that's the case, perhaps it may be the culprit.  (And if so, I've simply run into a limitation that I can't do much about.)

  • Empty filter panel in Bridge CS5

I’m using Bridge CS5 on Windows 7.  If I create a new folder, add an image file, and attach a keyword, the filter panel remains empty – as if the folder were empty.  That is, not only are there no terms under the Keyword filter, but no filter options are displayed at all.
However, if I use Find to search for the attached keyword, then there’s no problem locating the image.
This is such a basic issue that I’m sure I’m missing something obvious.  Is it related to caching or indexing?  Closing and reopening Bridge doesn’t make any difference.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I see what’s going on now.  It looks like there’s a minor Bridge 4.0.4.2 bug relating to the filter panel (in the lower left part of the Bridge window).  Basically, no filter options are shown in the panel unless the current folder contains at least two files.
To see this behavior:  (1) Create a new folder; the filter panel will be empty of course.  (2) Copy an image file into the folder; the panel is still empty.  (3) Copy another image file into the folder; the panel is populated with options, e.g. keywords, camera raw properties, etc. for the two files.  (4) Delete one of the files; the filter panel is empty again.

  • Using keywords for multiple folders

I'm working with a photo archive consisiting of a large number of folders and subfolders. I'm wanting to use keywords to filter my images, but I'm finding that it's not possible unless I select a single folder containing images. Is there a way around this?
For example can I just select my "Photos" folder and have it filter the images in all of the folders and sub folders contained within. I work at a university so I have folders within the folder "Photos" named things like "Academics" and within "Academics" I have folders for each academic field. Sometimes I'm just looking for a good shot of a professor in a classroom setting and don't really care which academic field it's from and this would be a huge help.

I'm wanting to use keywords to filter my images, but I'm finding that it's not possible unless I select a single folder containing images. Is there a way around this?
The quick search field top right in Bridge Window only works on the folder that Bridge is pointed to.
What might be a better way for you would be the actual Find command (menu Edit/ Find or cmd + F on a Mac).
This brings up a dialog with more options. At source you can select your main photo folder. Choose one or more criteria and check include subfolders.

  • Search using synonym of a keyword

Lightroom 3.6 and 4: Is it possible to search by synonym of a keyword? It was possible in LR2 (if I remember it correctly) and after LR3 the feature has been gone and looks like it's still not possible. I have huge controlled vocabulary keyword database with synonyms and translations for stock usage and can’t search using synonims. And this is so frustrating!

Actually I don't even tried to search for synonyms in smart collections. And if my smart collection search for a keyword I frequently know main keyword for photos I want to appear.
I need a search for synonyms possibility in Filter Keywords input line. When I assign keywords I'am not always remember main keyword, sometimes it's latin or russian or english synonym.
But I agree the Keyword List filter should reveal synonyms.
If there will be just a main keyword for typed synonym it will be sufficient (it worked this way in LR2).

  • Keyword Synonyms don't work

Keyword synonyms do not appear to set up a bidirecional relationship between the keyword and the synonym
Define a keyword and specify a synonym
Tag an image with the keyword (not the synonym); The image will appear under both the keyword and the synonym in the catalog
Tag an image with the synonym;  In this case the image will appear ONLY under the synonym, as if the synonym is now a new top-level keyword
What's the point of the synonym definition if it goes only one way?  You can't use the synonyms interchangeably with the keyword, you have to remember it's a synonym.  This can't be working as designed, can it?

Tag an image with the synonym;  In this case the image will appear ONLY under the synonym, as if the synonym is now a new top-level keyword.
When you enter the name of a synonym into the Keywording > Enter Keywords text box, it actually does create a new tag of the same name and apply it to the image. That new tag has no relationship to the synonym or the synonym's tag.
A related issue is that synonyms can't be searched via the Keyword List > Filter Keywords box; see this thread for more details:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/663188?tstart=0
It appears that these changes (whether bugs or deliberate design) were introduced in LR 3.

  • Using Document Keywords in Solar_Eval

    Dear all
I've trying to use the Document Keywords to run filtered reports about documentation assignments in Solar_eval.
In spite of assigning correctly to the document the keywords in the attributes screen of solar01 or solar02.
When I run a report selecting those keywords as filter (document keywords), does not find coincidences.
Any idea of what may be happening?
    Thanks and Regards!

    Hi Nelson,
After reading your posts, I tried out at my end, and it seems to work correctly, filtering based on Keywords.
I defined Keywords in SOLAR_PROJECT_ADMIN and made it possible for allocation only to Documents (not for Project Structure or Roadmpa), Chose this Keyword as an Attribute for a Test Case document, in SOLAR02, ran a report from SOLAR_EVAL, Configuration -> Assignments -> Documentation, Project choice & Keword entered, on execution, I get to see the filtered result only, as it should.
The version I am on is SolMan 7.0 Support Pack 15; ST - 400, Level 15.
Please let me know if there's anything in particular you may want me look at, and get back.
    Best regards,

  • Drop rule using keyword?

I posted this on the Cisco MARS User group on Google, but thought it is best to cover it here as well.
I just read that this can not be done using a keyword, but am interested if there is any other way of getting the same (or equal) result.
Is there any way to configure a false positive drop rule based on a
keyword in the raw message? I have a user that consistantly pushes the
switch port interface utilization above 90% - this is normal activity
that happens throughout the day. We get 20 - 30 email alerts per day
on this. I would like to configure a drop rule that will just drop
this incident if this user's interface is specified in the raw
message. Or maybe there is another way to get the same result?

hmmm...I think that's going to be a challenge and not likely found in a book or other documentation. If you add a "!= switch a" in the device column for an offset, the offset will not match on any events from that device regardless of the keyword criteria.
If the device name is not in the raw message, I don't see any way around that. Assuming a very basic rule with a single offset...
I think you'll have to modify the original offset with a "!= switch a" in device column. Then add an offset which specifically matches on that device and uses a keyword to filter out the specific port indicated in the raw message.
There's a trick to that too, because you can't just a have a "!=" keyword. You have to first match on something and then add a "NOT" keyword which indicates the port.
Hopefully that will get you started at least. It can get really messy with multiple offsets because you'll have to figure out where to add the offset and may even have to add multiple offsets and in the right place.

  • Keyword Panel not appearing in View Menu

I am a bit confused. I have viewed two Adobe produced videos that indicate that the panels are supposed to be selectable from the View  menu in CS3 Bridge on my Mac.
When I click on my View menu, I do not see panels listed, only
    Compact Mode
    Slideshow
    Slideshow Options
    As Thumbnails
    As Details
    Show Thumbnail Only
    Show Reject Files
    Show Hidden files
    Show Folders
    Sort>
    Refresh
But the videos show additional menu items that include the panels ie:
    Folders Panel
    Favorites Panel
    Preview Panel
    Metadata Panel
    Keywords Panel
    Filter Panel
    Cinema Preview Panel
    Inspector Panel
Why am I not seeing the panels under the View menu?

    LOL
Could be they used a very early version in the beta cycle to produce this
video and Adobe changed this in the end version? Don't know but it is a nice
    blooper...
Thanks for the reply. You seem to be correct, but Adobe Videos indicate
    otherwise...
