KM external repositories

Hi All,
We are using the existing CM repositories to store the documents. Persistence mode is DB.
we have a new use case for which we need to create a cRoom.
the users expected to upload and maintain Tera Bytes of documents.
My questions are
1.From performance  & scalability point, does using the same DB mode is good? or we need to change the persistence mode?
and secondly, please give some suggestions for using external repositories inside KM. I saw some alterntatives to be Lotus notes, WedDAV & File system in this order.
  2.  what are the advantages & disadvantages in using these external respostiories?
  3. Can i stll use the same KM interface (standard & custom) to upload & retrieve the documents from these external repositories?
   4. Is there any comparison avialable between these repositories?
Please let me know your comments and share your experties. this would be really helpful in deciding.
thanks in advance.
regards,
Senthil

Hi,
DB :  This mode is useful when there will be large number of request to upload data in KM. The data here means files, folders and their related properties(meta-data).
DBFS : This mode is useful if your upload file size would be high. In these mode file will be stored on file system, its related properties and folder will be stored in database.
FSDB : In this mode File system is given more importance, since folders and files are stored in file system while properties are stored in database, due to which performance is affected.
SAP recommends DBFS mode for managing large amount of data and using FSDB mode if there will be more read request.
You can find more details on this from below link :
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/62/468698a8e611d5993600508b6b8b11/frameset.htm
Using external repository depends on your organization how they would be using KM. There was requirement to integrate Sharepoint to some repository and that same should be used by SAP portal and also various user required direct access to server where they can quickly mass upload, easily create folders. Thus we integrated Windows file system with both portal.
Thus it would depend on organization. You can even integrate SAP DMS if required. The UI will be same for all operation.
You can integrate various external repository as explained in below link :

  • Document Search - External Repositories

    Hi Folks,
    Has anyone of you worked on integrating the content of external repositories in Document Search within CIC ? Would really appreciate if you could share your experience doing the same.
    Here are the details of what I am trying to achieve:
    Background:
    We are on CRM 2007 and Implementing Customer Interaction Center (CIC).
    ECC 6.0, Enterprise Portal (EP)  7.0.
    TREX 7.0. We use a single TREX System for both CRM and Enterprise Portal (EP).
    We do not have SAP Content Server, Enterprise Search and not in scope for the CIC Project.
    As part of CIC, One of the Key Tools we are trying to implement is the Document Search.  We have repositories on the CRM System and External to CRM.
    For the Document Stored on CRM we will be using KPro (Tcode SKPR07) and Indexing on TREX to be searched through CIC Document Search.  This is available Standard, out of the Box.
    For  External Repositories ( i.e. Portal KM Documents  , Documents on Intranet Windows System )  we donu2019t have a Standard  design in CRM  to Integrate them into the CIC Document Search  using TREX.
    Any insight for implement Integration of External Repositories into CIC Document Search would be really helpful.

    Hi Guest,
    I am quite sure that if you use an external document repository you can only use the features provided by the external repository. If the external repository provides document versioning and the repository manager used to integrate the repository in the KM repository framework does implement the functionality then you may be able to use document versioning.Otherwise, not.
    Hope I could help!

    Hi,
    You can use CM repository Manager instead of File Repository Manager.
    See this thread, Explain you.

  • Subscription for external repositories

    Hi Experts,
    System in use - EP 2004s .
    Question - Is there any external repository manager which will give the subscription email notification when I modify the documents on the extenal server . (Not through portal) .
    I know WebDav will give subscription notification email if we moify the documents using portal.
    Points are assured.
    Kindly help as its urgent !
    Thanks & Regards,
    Amit Kade

    Hi Praveen ,
    Thanks a lot for the quick reply , but actually it is possible .
    Initially my understanding was also same as yours but then I came to know that if we configure the subscription with frequency as 'daily' or 'monthly'  we can get the subscription notification emails.
    In this case KM gets notified of the changes by the crawler which subscription service starts. But ofcourse if you configure the subscription with frequency 'on every event' ,  in this case subscription service depends on the KM events and not the crawler.
    I have configured a WebDav repository using Windows IIS and activated the subscription on that , I am getting the notification emails but now I have one more question .
    Q - As I have activated the subscription service while creating WebDav repository manager , every user can subscribe to this repository . How can we set subscription service permissions to users as I don't want every user to have full access for subscription .
    Thanks in advance !

  • Use of KM to connect to External Document Repositories !!

    Dear All,
    I am evaluating the capability of KM as an integration layer to connect to various External Repositories (Lotus notes, File System, DB, DMS, Sharepoint repositories etc). I know there are various KM Repository Managers available which can help in connecting to other document systems, but am not sure how effective it is. What could be the potential issues?
    Are there any major limitations with using KM as integration layer?
    Appreciate your inputs.
    Thanks

  • Using GOS_ATTACHMENT_LIST_POPUP - Can I send attachments to external repository?

    I've been unsuccessfully trying to use FM GOS_ATTACHMENT_LIST_POPUP to save documents in an external repository. It's only saving to the standard SAP tables: SOOD / SOFM.
    I've created the Business Object in SWO1. Created an entry in OAC2, and in OAC3, I specified link table TOA01.
    When I implement the code,

           ip_attachments = 'X'
           ip_urls        = 'X'

  • BUG: External Subversion Repository, Can only connect to one URL unless....

    Jdeveloper 11.1.1.6 and Jdevevloper 11.2.2 versions.
    To See video about this "bug" please see http://youtu.be/Dp0laSTnSo4 (I made the video after writing this).
    Use-case: I work on four or five different applications and need distinct repositories for each. I am able to create distinct repositories using the Jdeveloper "create Local Repository" built-in functionality, and then when I "Version Application" I see all the repositories I have created.
    HOWEVER Using an External SVN as described in http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/adf/part1-090228.html
    I have created two repositories: app1 and app2
    When I try to "version [an] Application" I can add only one URL of an external SVN, and am not able to add any others.
    If I look at the repositories.xml file as found in the system directory, I see the following:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <svn-repositories xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/jdeveloper/1013/svn/repositories">
    <svn-repository>
    <url>https://stuart-pc:8080/svn/App1</url>
    <alias>App1</alias>
    <user-name>hr</user-name>
    <password>Bb8W5J9eNtvA1jlqkYoTNWA=</password>
    </svn-repository>
    </svn-repositories>
    If I hack this file and add the extra lines below (with jdeveloper closed), I am able to version an application to the "App2" repository.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <svn-repositories xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/jdeveloper/1013/svn/repositories">
    <svn-repository>
    <url>https://stuart-pc:8080/svn/App1</url>
    <alias>App1</alias>
    <user-name>hr</user-name>
    <password>Bb8W5J9eNtvA1jlqkYoTNWA=</password>
    </svn-repository>
    *<svn-repository>*
    *<url>https://stuart-pc:8080/svn/App2</url>*
    *<alias>App2</alias>*
    *<user-name>hr</user-name>*
    *<password>Bb8W5J9eNtvA1jlqkYoTNWA=</password>*
    *</svn-repository>*
    </svn-repositories>
    I think this is a bug. Since you can create multiple "local" repositories, you should also be able to this with an external repositories. Also, one should be able to add as many external URLs as necessary in the Jdeveloper GUI, since we may work on multiple applications throughout the course of a day.
    Thank you,
    Stuart

    Frank,
    Thank you. Actually, I wasn't completely sure it was a bug, but it seemed that if you could do it using the "Create Local Repository" the functionality ought to be there for the external Subversion.
    Just curious, would you know what the Oracle Fusion Developers use for their Repository? might they also use Maven? Hudson?
    I always appreciate your help!

  • Document Storage in Sharepoint without using EP

    Hi,
    We are implementing SAP Solution Manager 4.0 without using EP. It uses CRM 5.0.
    The issue We are facing is that the Content Management system of CRM 5.0 uses the SAP databases for storage of documents. Obviously, this can be expected to be a heavy drag on the DB performance.
    We want to instead use an alternate means to store CM Documents. For example, use a File-server area on the application server or use MS Sharepoint portal 2003 for the purpose. Any pointers on how to achieve this?

  • Some init script ideas

    I'm packaging GNUstep... again (this time from CVS), and it requires a certain shell script to be sourced by every shell.  That's easy enough for any user to do by modifying their .foorc and adding it in there, but I thought I would just throw a command in the postinstall to symlink the shell script to /etc/profile.d, so every login shell would automatically source it.
    That's all fine and dandy, but xterms by default aren't login shells, so anybody using an xterm would find themselves without a working GNUstep build environment unless they set xterm to be a login shell in their .Xdefaults.
    Change #1) Make xterms login shells by default in Arch's xfree86 distribution
    Now that xterms are all login shells, and we can expect a user's shell to be a login shell by default, why not add scripts to profile.d for the various self-contained distributions that live in /opt (like gnome, kde, java, etc.) that automatically set up the paths for those binaries.  At the moment, it appears you have to do this manually (I have not installed gnome or kde though, maybe those maintainers are doing this).
    Change #2) Have packages that live in /opt add a script to profile.d setting up the paths and environment necessary to use those packages.
    Thirdly, there's two daemons that need to be started for GNUstep when xfree86 starts (specifically gdnc and gpbs).  Once again, this is something that can easily be done by a user editing their .Xsession, but I'd rather automate it.  In the spirit of Arch's init script system, I think it would be wise to make an xinit.d directory (possibly in /etc, or more to the keeping of X's directory structure, in /etc/xinit.d), full of files that are run whenever X is started.  These could be enabled and disabled in rc.conf just like init scripts in rc.d currently are.
    Change #3) Add an xinit.d directory, in the spirit of rc.d and profile.d, full of items that are run whenever X is started.
    Perhaps some of this has already been done, or perhaps there are other solutions.  I just think these changes would be well in the spirit of Arch, and a boon to package maintainers.
    Please give me your feedback either here or by mailing me at [email protected]

    sarah31 wrote:most if not all /opt package sets have profile.d scripts.  some may not think so but one has to log out then in to enable them.
    Good Looks like profile.d is being used for the right purpose.  I should've expected it would be  :oops:
    Xentac wrote:Ok... but what happens if I'm running blackbox?  I probably don't want gdnc and gpbs started when I start X, it'd make me cry.  How would xinit.d help with that?
    I don't see why it'd make you cry.  Let me explain what gdnc and gpbs are:
    GNUstep Distributed Notification Center
    Handles messaging and notification between GNUstep applications
    GNUstep Pasteboard Server
    Handles rich copy and paste between GNUstep applications
    Basically, none of these would impact whatever environment you'd be running, and only GNUstep apps would use them.  In fact, you wouldn't even realize they were running as they'd just be sitting in the background like the valiant daemons they are, waiting to be called into service for the holy emperor GNUstep  :twisted:
    And in any case, with the whole xinit.d idea, you should be able to just disable it with a ! if you don't like it
    I might as well throw in my last idea, which I forgot to write before.
    I've noticed people complaining about Pacman upgrades wiping their pacman.conf, which is a problem if you're using several people's TURs and other external repositories like I am.  Instead, I propose doing what APT has been doing in a recent version with its new sources.list.d layout... having one directory (pacman.repo.d or something of its ilk) storing files for each repository, and enabling and disabling them in pacman.conf the way you do in rc.conf (with a bang).  This would be especially nice because somebody could install a package called, for example, "pacman-TUR", and have a repo file for each TUR, and then be able to enable or disable them.  This package would be updated every time a new TUR was added or one was removed, thus enabling people to easily track the latest repository happenings, while still maintaining control over what repos they use.
    Just a thought.

  • Duet Enterprise for cloud.

    Hi All,
    I want to know your views on the possibility of using Duet Enterprise for cloud based scenarios and specific comments on the following scenarios:
    1. All systems viz. SharePoint, SCL and SAP backend are on cloud.
    2. SharPoint and SCL are on cloud and the SAP backend in premise.
    3. SharePoint is in cloud and SCL and SAP backend are on premise.
    Cloud over hear means a public cloud. Please let me know what could be the complexities or road block sin each of these scenarios in your opinion.
    Hoping for some constructive discussion on this topic, since these scenarios are catching a lot of eyes these says.
    Regards,
    Avishek.

    Hi Avishek,
    Update:
    The november update of SharePoint Online (SPO) includes the earlier announced BCS support; see [Whatu2019s New in SharePoint Online: November 2011 Update|http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blog/Pages/BlogPost.aspx?pID=1002&prod=SP&type=BL].
    Via this it is now possible to connect to external data in SharePoint Online context; through WCF endpoints to the external repositories.
    However, utilization of Duet Enterprise is not (yet) possible; due:
    1) Duet Enterprise is an Add-On to both SharePoint and SAP installations; and this Add-On is not included within SharePoint Online.
    2) Moreover; via Duet Enterprise you have a bi-directional connectivity between your SharePoint and your SAP landscape; it is required that both parties know how to 'reach' to another. This is something that I do not see forthcoming in any shared (multi-tenancy) cloud / SaaS proposition. It effectively requires to have a organization-dedicated Duet Enterprise configuration; which should be possible in the cloud, but then boils down to a multi-instance installation in which you outsource the hosting of YOUR SharePoint environment to a 'hosting organization'.
    Note that SAP and Microsoft have included in the [Duet Enterprise Planned Roadmap|http://www.google.nl/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=cloud%20model%20duet%20enterprise&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CEkQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft-sapphire.com%2Fresources%2FDuet%2520Enterprise%2520FP1.pptx&ei=45_pTun3F8GdOrr_mKAI&usg=AFQjCNH2ZjQQIxOSkBIlexBVQ2F1Fn1yVw] the following:
    "Plan to support additional Mobile and Cloud scenarios" for a Next Version (following FP1)
    As any roadmap, the value of this statement for now is limited; no guarantees given that it will actually be achieved.
    Best regards, William.

  • Linking two KM systems

    Hi,
    I want to link two 2004s KM systems.
    One KM should be the main system to hold the repository with all data.
    The second system should use the same repository as the first one and shall build only a interface to the first system.
    The reason why I want to do so is to use the KM API installed on the second system to let a WebDynpro application on the second system search for documents on the first system.
    Could anyone please help me how to set up KM to do so?
    Kind regards,
    Dietmar

    Hi,
    I have never done it before but you should look into adding external repositories. In the portal you can attach various document locations. This can be your mailserver (a exchange repository), a website or even another KM portal.
    I`m not sure but I pretty sure you can add your other KM in you current portal by creating a WEBDAV repository. Webdav being the protocol portalKM`s can talk to each other. Once done you will get an extra KM folder on you current  KM showing the complete other KM. (at least if you pick the root)
    Go to System ad;ininstration > Knowledge Managment > configuration > Repository managers > Webdav repositories.
    Hope this helps

    Hi,
    You can read the documentation about [Content Management Configuration|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/69/d96b7aa84611d5993600508b6b8b11/frameset.htm] , where you can find a lot of information about [Repository Managers |http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/69/d96b7da84611d5993600508b6b8b11/frameset.htm] .
    Repositories are used for storing and/or retrieving content and metadata.
    The KM standard configuration uses several internal repositories that are controlled by CM. They are used for storing and staging various content and metadata and for navigating in this data. These repositories are preconfigured and preactivated in the KM standard configuration. You do not normally need to modify their configuration.
    In addition to the aforementioned internal repositories, you can integrate additional external repositories into CM, such as a WebDAV or file system repository. You can establish a connection to these repositories by configuring appropriate repository managers.
