KM Local Editing Issue

Hi All,
I have a strange issue with KM local editing feature. Whenever I try to edit an PDF file, it shows an error "The download of the document failed".
Based on the sap notes available and previous KM post, I did check the internet explorer settings and docservice dll's in system registry. Everything is in place. It doesn't show an error while doing editing for any other file types like .txt and .docx etc..
In fact in temp folder for my machine, I can see the KM folder path created under the folder docservice. But it is empty.
System version is NW 7.3
Any pointers to resolve this issue is appreciated.
Regards,
Mahesh

Hi,
This might be due to the fact that the PDF cannot be edited unless we open the PDF with the suitable tools like PDF editor. Portal doesn't have the inbuilt facility or tool to edit PDF. This is not in the case of text or html files. POrtal has inbuild HTML editor to edit the HTML files. Irrespective of the portal versions we have, we cannot edit a PDF file from the portal.
It is possible if you install the PDF editor in your local machine and the corresponding plugin is added to your browser.
Thanks,
Mahendran B.

  • Collaboration Room  - Edit Locally Cache Issue

    Hello,
    We have a situation where 2 users try to edit word file locally. For one user (A) everything works fine. The changes are uploaded and can be seen after Check In is done. For the other user (B), the changes are visible when he clicks on the file, but if he tries to edit the file again, it does not show the changes. If the user (B) logs off and closes the browser, and then logs back in, he can see his changes if he tries to edit the file. If the user (B) logs in through user (A) machine everything works as it should.
    We compared browser setting for both users and they are identical. We especially compared cache setting, but it is the same. There seems to be PC/browser setting somewhere, but I can not figure out what it is. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Alex

    Hi Alex,
    we have the some problem. The problem is even reproducible with one user. We reported that bug to SAP.
    This is our way to reproduce the problem:
    01. open IE
    02. point it to http://HOSTNAME:PORT/irj/go/km/navigation/documents/FOLDER
    03. login
    04. "edit locally" for the already uploaded .doc
    05. Word opens and I add a new line to the doc
    06. Switch KM window
    07. Hit "Check in now"
    08. Switch to Word and closing it
    09. Switch to IE and click on the docs title to open Word. Word shows me the last change.
    10. Closing word again
    11. "edit locally" and my last changes, which I saw when clicking the title are gone.
    12. Closing Word and selecting "Cancel Local Editing" in the km window and closing IE.
    13. repeating steps 01 to 04: (open IE, call URL, login, edit locally for that doc)
    14. changes are in that document
    I we here something from SAP, I'll post it.
    best regards,
    Nils

  • Citrix Netscaler AppXpert with Sharepoint 2010 Page Edit Issue

    Posting this as a questions and discussion point.
    The issue is in using Citrix Netscaler with AppXpert with SharePoint 2010. I've seen this issue for two customers.
    Configurations:
    - Citrix Netscaler as the load Balancer
    - Netscaler AppXpert for SharePoint deployed on Netscaler (using either AppXpert version 1.1 or 2.0)
    - SharePoint 2010 Standard or Enterprise editions
    Issue:
    A SharePoint user with appropriate rights go to a SharePoint page. They choose Edit page, make changes and want to save changes. At this point all SharePoint ribbon options on the top are greyed out. End result, users are not able to make changes to their
    site pages. Issue happens for everyone including Farm Admins.
    Cases:
    a. The users are able to edit and save SharePoint wiki pages if I point user's PC to the SharePoint web server WFE by changing their local host file.
    b. On Citrix Netscaler, if I use the traditional load balancing i.e. without Citrix AppXpert, then the users are able to edit and save the pages. That is an option if the customer is using SharePoint 2010 Standard. That is not an option if a customer is
    using InfoPath forms. InfoPath is a feature of SharePoint 2010 Enterprise edition. Citrix AppXpert for SharePoint is needed to make the InfoPath work. Else the users get session errors when they use InfoPath Web forms.
    c. The issue happens on almost all combination of OS and browser. XP, vista, Win 7, Win8, Win8.1, IE8, 9, 10, 11 and other browsers like chrome etc as well.
    Please share your ideas and suggestions.

    Hi Faisal,
    As I understand, the issue will be solved when end users directly connect to SharePoint WFE servers. Since the issue is related to third party products, I'd recommend you contact their support engineer for sufficient resource and assistance. For your convenience:
    http://discussions.citrix.com/forum/150-support-forums/
    Should you need more assistance, let me know. Thanks for the understanding.

  • Problem with local editing after update to SP13

    Hallo,
    we have updated our Enterprise Portla 7.00 to SP13. Now many user have Problem with local editing. The error message is "The download of the document fail".
    I know that every PC needs the "Docservice" Active X component installed. The "Docservice" is also installed.
    At my PC theres only this problem with "html" documents.
    What could be the problem. ?
    Please help.
    Many thanks
    Ronald

    We found that there is a problem with the Docservice Active X Component.
    If we work in a deeper folder there is a problem with the length of the url. I changed the TEMP Setting
    "Setting a different TEMP directory:
    In cases that it is problematic to use the standard %TEMP% directory,
    setting the environment variable SAPKM_USER_TEMP pinpointing to a
    corresponding directory path (e.g.
    X:\SHARES\USERS\xxx\CheckedOutDocuments) will be also supported. If the
    access to that directory fails the standard %TEMP% directory will be
    used as fallback."
    I used "C:\TEMP" and now it works.......  but this cant be the solution....

  • Why iCal cancel of event edits issue is still not fixed after over 2 years?

    Why iCal "cancel of event edits" issue is still not fixed after over 2 years?
    I have been in the software engineering industry for over 14 years, but I have never seen a large corporation being so slow at addressing major issues like these.
    What would it take for Apple to start working on this issue?

    Yup. This is fully ridiculous that you can't cancel your updates once you start. I love the tool but this is on pretty significant issue.
    Sometimes I accidentally move a mtg or make some edit while viewing and you can't back you!!
    If you feel the same way, you should post a note here:

    All my certificates on the Exchange 2013 and Lync 2013 servers are from my local CA.
    I use APP with the public certificates as my reverse proxy for people connecting from outside the network.
    In Lync, the OAuthTokenIssuer certificate created through the Lync deployment wizard is issued to domainname.local (my primary sip domain) and the Subject Alternative names include domainname.co.uk
    I then exported this certificate to the Exchange Server and use the Set-AuthConfig to use this certificate for OAuth.
    from what I read this was what I was supposed to do.
    is this correct?
    I have tried so many things I don't know what do to next.
    Should the OAuth certificate in exchange be the one exported from Lync?
    In Lync, should the OAuthTokenIssuer certificate include the servername or lyncserver.domainname.local or just be domainname.local like it is at the moment?

    Thomas,
    thanks for giving this the time. I have run the Configure-EnterpriseApplication.ps1 script following by remove-PartnerApplication so many times that I was wondering if there are other setting that
    Configure-EnterpriseApplication.ps1 creates that aer not removed when you run
    remove-PartnerApplication.
    is there a way to completely remove everything that is confirmed when you run
    Configure-EnterpriseApplication.ps1 so I can run Configure-EnterpriseApplication.ps1 without there being any configurations left from when I previously run that command?
    thanks

  • Locally edit an event received from a subscription

    I publish an iCal feed (so I have complete control over the feed properties) and while iCal imports it just fine, I am not allowed to locally edit the event details. It appears to be a read-only affair.
    I am not referring to having local edits be pushed back to remote, I understand that requires a full two-way protocol such as Cal/WebDAV, I just want the user to be able to edit an event that is already in their iCal.
    Does this capability just not exist in iCal - all non-CalDAV subscriptions purely read-only or is there some kind of a flag/setting that I need to enable in my feed properties?
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    A subscription is read-only - and you can't even copy data from events to another calendar.

  • Local edit in Firefox and IE

    Hi,
    I would like to fix the "Local edit" function for both Firefox and Internet Explorer. The standard settings, the ActiveX component, work for IE, no problem there but this doesn't work for Firefox.
    The SAP Help tells me to change these settings from ActiveX component to Java Applet to fix this feature for "Internet Explorer and the Netscape Browser", which I did.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/a6/181b09bcc7fe4389c8c17d2ad849cc/frameset.htm
    Current local editing settings:
    ActiveX Version Check: disabled
    Active Component: Applet
    Java Runtime Version: 1.3
    I tried both version 1.3 and version 1.4 but IE always returns the same error message in the Java console window:
    Java Plug-in 1.5.0_04
    Using JRE version 1.5.0_04 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
    User home directory = C:\Documents and Settings\<username>

    So, the ActiveX component works fine for IE but doesn't work in Firefox, the Java Applet doesn't work in IE (error "Operation failed") and doesn't work in Firefox.
    Any ideas to get local editing working in BOTH browsers or is this feature not working for Firefox?
    PS: we use the SAP EP 6 SP 14 and the Java 1.5.0 Runtime platform. In the portal I can only select Java Runtime 1.3 or 1.4, is this feature tested in 1.5?

    Hi Simon,
    I think your problem is the 1.5 JRE.
    We tried to use it sometiems ago with our portal, and had a lot of crash with it.
    Please uninstall it, and use the last 1.4 JRE from
    https://sdlc5c.sun.com/ECom/EComActionServlet;jsessionid=1A90C4131BD16421A576A7D362C358C2
    and set to local edit java parameter to 1.4.
    It worked fine for us wit IE 6, but I did not test it with firefox however.

  • Local Edit Proxy VS Rendering on Server

    My projects are shot on HDV, uploaded as productions to FCSvr with edit proxies set for ProRes 422 proxy. Many of these projects contain Photoshop graphics, usually "builds" of bullet points or logos. Will I see a difference in image quality, specifically the graphics, between rendering locally with checked out edit proxy files and outputting the project to compressor on the FCSvr, which is, as I understand it, working from the original HDV files and original Photoshop layered files? Does FCSvr modify Photoshop files that are downloaded for local editing in any way?

    Sorry I haven't replied sooner. Holidays.
    1) FCSvr doesn't process stills that are used in FCP projects, it only makes note of their link to the project so it can check them out if necessary. When FCP is addressing a still it will either be the original on shared storage or a copy of the original that was downloaded upon checkout of the FCP project from FCSvr.
    2) I doubt there is much of a quality difference between HDV and ProRes Proxy. All ProRes codecs are 10 bit and are designed to not degrade across multiple transcode passes. If anything, ProRes Proxy is capable of higher image fidelity than the 25Mbps MPEG-2 used by HDV. However, since you are starting with HDV, you don't gain anything in the upsample to ProRes. But you certainly don't lose anything either. Maybe some quantitative image analysis would show slight differences, but I bet you can't see any with just your eye.
    3) It should be a wash. I'm pretty sure FCP renders HDV as ProRes anyway (might be wrong, but there are definitely other long-GOP codecs FCP handles that way). Either way, the fact that ProRes won't degrade the image data of the HDV means that using either one as a source should yield functionally identical output quality. FCSvr doesn't do any rendering. All it does is catalog media and hand that media off to Compressor for any transcoding. Any rendering of a composite will take place via FCP based upon whatever media it is linking to.
    Honestly, if you don't see a difference in image quality looking at your HDV and the ProRes Proxy derived from it side by side, I see no reason why you shouldn't just do all your work and outputs in ProRes. Save the HDV as a source and a backup, but I don't think you are missing anything keeping your workflow in ProRes after ingest and transcoding.

  • Local Editing / Context Menu using KM API

    Hi all,
    I have a custom developed iView, which uses the KM API to view a list of resources.
    I display a link to the resource details page using PathKey.DETAILS_PAGE.
    This way, in order to use local editing, the user needs to open the details screen, and then choose "Edit Locally" from the Actions menu.
    I'm looking for a way to enable this operation in one click.
    I thought of 2 ways to do this:
    1. Use / create a context menu, like in normal KM navigation iView.
    2. Display a link that will trigger local editing directly.
    I couldn't find the way to do either.
    Any help and/or suggestions will be appreciated.
    Thanks ahead,
    Yoav.

    Hi Birla,
    try this:
    IResource res = ResourceFactory.getInstance().getResource(path,context);
    IPropertyName propName = new PropertyName("http://ars.com/xmlns/cm","Region");
    java.util.List values = new List();
    values.add("Asia");
    values.add("America");
    values.add("Muenster, Germany");
    IProperty property = new Property(propName, PropertyType.STRING, values);
    res.setProperty(property);
    Best regards,
    Michael

  • Local editing and https

    Dear all,
    I recently disabled HTTP in my portal and it can only be acccessed now
    via HTTPS. I am trying to edit 'locally' a document within a KM folder
    that I had previously edited with no problem when the portal could be
    accessed via HTTP. When under HTTP, these documents launched either of
    Word or Notepad, depending on the type of file. I used the edit locally
    function via the context menu against each document
    Now, however, that http is disabled, I get the message "Local Editing failed". Before that, i see a window popping up trying to access the document via http. So, my question is, where can I change this setting so that the document is accessed by https?
    Many thanks
    Andreas

    Hi ,
    Please try the following. Even I am not sure whether this will solve your problem or not.
    Logon as administrator
    Navigate to System Administration -> System Configuration -> Service Configuration
    Open the tree Applications
    Open the tree 'com.sap.portal.ivs.httpservice'
    Open the tree 'Services'
    Right Click on link 'proxy'
    Click on menu 'configure'
    Then change the setting of  "HTTP - Bypass Proxy Servers" and "HTTPS - Bypass Proxy Servers" .
    Click on button Save
    Close it
    Right click on 'com.sap.portal.ivs.httpservice'
    Click on menu 'administrate'
    Click on link 'Restart' under service "com.sap.portal.ivs.httpservice|http"
    Click on link 'Restart' under service "com.sap.portal.ivs.httpservice|proxy"
    Close it
    Then log off the portal and again logon

  • Using iCal to sync a local editable copy with a calendar server...?

    Hi All,
    I have a couple of calendar servers running versions of Citadel (www.citadel.org) and WebCalendar (http://www.k5n.us/webcalendar.php). We are currently considering Sunbird and Outlook as clients as they support groupdav publish/subscribe. However many wish to use iCal.
    Does iCal (or will it ever) support the ability to communicate bidirectionally with a server calender? Can I sync a local editable copy with my calendar servers? If not, are there any quality plugins or workarounds of any sort to allow this?
    Best.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    iCal does appear to be supported by Webcalendar, I did not google Citadel, but this is what I got from searching for iCal and webcalendar together: http://www.k5n.us/wiki/index.php?title=RemotePublishing_with_AppleiCal

  • Problem When Locally Editing KM Documents

    Hi Friends,
    When we try to open a word document for Editing Locally, the MS Word gets launched, but we are getting the error as in the below pic:
    At the same time, we are able to edit any notepad files (*.txt). If we add the URL to trusted sites, then everything is working fine, but we need it to work even without adding them to trusted sites. Please suggest a solution.
    PS: We access the site through VPN and we use FQDN in the URL.
    We are able to open the file, but we face this issue only when Editing Locally

  • [SOLVED] chicken-locale environment issues

    So I've recently decided that I want to give Lisp or Scheme a try. I eventually settled on Chicken Scheme because it seemed to fit better into the Linux ecosystem than Common Lisp or something like that. AFAICT, and I'm obviously not an expert, it seems like there is no sane way to distribute Common Lisp appliations in a Linuxy way. Feel free to correct me on that; I'd love to give Common Lisp a try!
    Anyway, most of the chicken packaages on the AUR are unmaintained and broken, so that left me to pick up the ones I wanted to use. I've had some success, but this package in particular is giving me a headache.
    # Maintainer: Aaron P <[email protected]>
    # Contributer: Jim Pryor <[email protected]>
    pkgname=chicken-locale
    _pkgname=locale pkgver=0.6.9
    pkgrel=1
    pkgdesc="Chicken Scheme Egg: Provides locale operations"
    arch=('i686' 'x86_64')
    url="http://chicken.wiki.br/eggref/4/locale"
    license=('BSD')
    depends=('chicken>=4.5.0' 'chicken-regex' 'chicken-setup-helper' 'chicken-miscmacros' 'chicken-record-variants' 'chicken-synch' 'chicken-lookup-table')
    options=(docs !libtool !emptydirs)
    build() {
    cd "$srcdir/"
    chicken-install -r "${_pkgname}":"${pkgver}"
    package() {
    cd "$_pkgname"
    chicken-install -p "$pkgdir/usr"
    This is the template I use for all the other packages I've taken (actually adapted from the AUR user perlawk). Most of the time, it works. In this case, it fails because while chicken-install can find .so files from chicken libraries, it can't find .scm files. This is actually solvable by doing tihs:
    CHICKEN_INCLUDE_PATH=/usr/lib/chicken/7/ chicken-install -p "$pkgdir/usr"
    I don't particularly like hardcoding the path here, but it works. Only in this case, I only get a different error message that isn't so easily solvable. Apparently, some variable used in the setup script isn't recognized. One thing to note is this process works perfectly fine, without the environment change — as long as I run the commands manually.
    I'm pretty sure these are two symptoms of how makepkg's changes to the environment conflict with chicken-install, but I'm not sure of the details or the best way to work around it. Any tips?

    Here's a trick which I use to sort out environment issues when building packages:
    Before building the package with `makepkg`, run the following command, which lists and sorts the currently set environment variables into a file:
    $ printenv | LC_ALL=C sort > env-outside.txt
    Next, temporarily add the following line, which does the same as above command (but writes to a different file of course) at the beginning of the `package()` function in your PKGBUILD *:
    printenv | LC_ALL=C sort > "${srcdir}"/../env-inside.txt
    Now try to build your package with `makepkg` as usual.
    Finally, do:
    $ diff -u env-outside.txt env-inside.txt
    and you should get a listing of the difference between the two environments, which hopefully allows you to figure out why things aren't working as expected.
    * Add the line right before any command which is causing trouble. Sometimes the env problem is caused by `export`ing a variable in the `build()` function and forgetting to also `export` it in the `package()` function.

  • Dynamic Local User Issue

    When i look at snapins thru consoleone i can see that Zenwork 7.0.1 snapin is installaed.
    I have Novell Client 4.91 SP5 and Zenwork Client 7.0.173.91015 installed on the clients running WinXP Pro SP3.
    There is different of failures that happens..
    Senario 1:
    I install a Latitude D610 with a WinXP Pro SP3 original CD, from scratch. I only install the drivers for the LAN-card to get access to the network. I do not update windows updates etc.
    I install the Novell Client 4.91 SP5, after that i install Zenwork Client 7.0.173.91015. And apply some registry settings to make the novell client to use the "tab-function" and hide advanced settings etc..
    I have my eDir user "ADMIN1" with the policy package with settings to Dynamic Local User set to create a local user with name Admin, but im not using volatile user. So the local windows user Admin will be saved when logged out.
    I login once with my Admin1 user, it creates the local profile Admin from Default User (with the help of Zenworks, and the policy Dynamic Local User?). I restart the computer and login again, and the local profile Admin craches and create a new one from Default User but this local user profile is namned Admin.Computername.
    Ive tested this with atleast four other computers (different hardware) so it cant be a driver issue.
    Ive looked thru the local logs, and i cant find anything about any problem with reading the NTUSER.DAT as could be a problem to load the local profile.
    I even tested this senario when i update all windows updates etc, with two different version of the zenworks client and so on. ive been testning this for like 100 times now atleast. and same failure is happening. Ive even tested this in a virtual environment (vmware workstation).
    Senari 2:
    Like the problem descried above, in some cases it loss the connection or something with the zenwork server side and the zenwork client on the client computer... Since it does not attempt to use the settings from Dynamic Local User, becuase i got the windows login window, and i have to login to an already existing windows local account (with otherwords i cant login to the Admin-profile since i dont know the login information to this account since its created by zenworks / dynamic local user settings, and from the settings there you cant set a password, just the name and role of the windows accout that should be created)..
    And after a while i try again, and then the settings from Dynamic Local User passes by and log into the, (let me say) Zenworks created local user profile (set by Dynamic Local User settings).
    I wanna mention that all computers thats old, no reinstallation.. I can login to without problem, without any crashes of the Windows Local Profile.
    Ive succeded once without any Windows Local profile crash, rebooted this computer over and over again, and no failure. If you succed twice, it seems like its fine. But then i reinstalled this computer, just like i did to make it success. But this time it failed on the second try, and got a crashed profile....
    Its kinda old hardware to the server where i have my Zenworks, could that be the case? Could it be some timeouts?
    The concults i use to fix some problems in our environment updated zenworks from the serverside just before christmans.. Could it be any problems with some windows patch etc?
    Any help would be appreciated!

    I only know of one XP SP3 issue that could cause this, but it involves a pw
    change and RP:
    "When you try to log on to a Windows XP SP3-based computer by using a
