Kodo progress?
Hello all!
I was wondering whether anyone representing TechTrader could update us on
how progress is proceeding on Kodo?!?! In particular, integration with
application servers, etc.
Furthermore, is the JSR for JDO likely to reach final status anytime soon?
That is obviously a barrier to wholesale adoption of JDO in production
environments!
I must admit, I wish there was a higher level of posts on this list. This
is an interesting technology and deserves more discussion!
Regards,
James W.
Hi folks,
The new beta of Kodo JDO is now available!
We've been busy trying to get the latest version of JDO ready and
packaged. We apologize for the delay in getting you updated information
regarding the status of Kodo. We've made a number of changes to Kodo
including the introduction of the Enterprise Edition so we've decided to
extend the beta period. To download this new beta, please go to
http://www.techtrader.com/products/jdo.html
<http://www.techtrader.com/products/jdo.html> .
The following email is being sent to the JDO announce distribution list
announcing Kodo JDO Standard Edition Beta 2.0 and Kodo JDO Enterprise
Edition Beta 2.0. Both will be available for download from the site
today and the license is good till August 25, 2001.
We again look forward to receiving feedback on the product from you.
You can send feedback or support questions to [email protected].
The Kodo Product Team
TechTrader, Inc.
TechTrader is excited to present the latest versions of Kodo JDO:
- Kodo JDO Standard Edition Beta 2.0; and
- Kodo JDO Enterprise Edition Beta 2.0
The Kodo JDO Standard Edition Beta 2.0 incorporates much of the feedback
that we have received from our loyal beta testers. Thank you. In
addition, we've introduced a number of new features including support of
n-many relations and JNDI lookup. The current release of Kodo JDO
Standard Edition more fully supports the Proposed Final Draft of Sun's
Java Data Objects Specification 1.0.
The introduction of the Kodo JDO Enterprise Version represents a growing
need for tools and features that are needed for larger scale usage of
Kodo. In addition to all of the features in the Standard Version of
Kodo, the Enterprise version offers PersistenceManagers that can
transparently synchronize with global J2EE Transactions. Additional
enterprise features are being developed. Please let us know what new
features you would like to see in the Enterprise Version of Kodo JDO as
we take our users feedback very seriously.
PREVIOUS KODO JDO USERS
We highly recommend upgrading to Kodo JDO Standard Beta 2.0 or
Enterprise Beta 2.0. Your version of Kodo expires on July 15, 2001 - to
continue using Kodo you must upgrade.
Detailed upgrade instructions are included in the download in the file
UPGRADE.txt. Quickstart instructions follow:
- Replace the shell/bat scripts that shipped with the previous version
of Kodo with those in the bin/ directory.
- Replace the jar libraries that shipped with the previous version of
Kodo with those in the lib/ directory. Note that some new libraries have
been introduced; therefore, these should be added to your CLASSPATH.
Read the rest of this document for information on changes that might
require modification of your application.
New Features
- Maps with user-defined persistent object values can be persisted
(n-many relations).
- Static inner classes can be persisted.
- Queries support the use of containsKey() and containsValue() for Map
fields.
- Queries support ordering declarations.
- The SchemaTool's schema migration capabilities have been enhanced.
- The SchemaTool offers the option of automatically maintaining the list
of persistent types for the system.
- Schema generation can be customized through JDO metadata.
- The standard javax.sql.DataSource is used to obtain connections.
- Connection pooling has been enhanced, and new pooling parameters have
been added (timeout time, autoreturn time).
- The ObjectId helper class has been introduced to map opaque JDO OID
values to and from primitive long values.
- PersistenceManagerFactories can be stored in JNDI, including JNDI
trees that are replicated over multiple JVMs.
- PersistenceManagers can transparently synchronize with global J2EE
Transactions (Kodo Enterprise Edition beta only).
Bugfixes
- Row-level locking is now performed within pessimistic Transactions.
- Object ID generation is now done using the database by default.
- Globally unique primary key values are no longer required (per-class
only).
- Inserting new instances of classes mapped to an existing schema
without a class indicator column no longer throws a
NullPointerException.
- Numerous minor fixes.
Notable Changes
Users of previous beta versions of Kodo should scan the user guide in
the docs/ directory for new information included with this release.
Of particular note:
- The schematool can now automatically maintain a list of persistent
classes; the <persistent-types> array in system.prefs is not needed.
This is covered in the Database Setup chapter of the user guide.
- The syntax for using the schematool has changed. This is covered in
the Database Setup chapter of the user guide.
- The syntax for mapping classes to existing database tables has
changed. This is covered in the Using Existing Schema chapter of the
user guide.
- The Runtime Use chapter of the user guide covers new runtime options
available, such as JNDI storage of the JDBCPersistenceManagerFactory and
safe conversion of JDO OID values to and from primitive long values.
As always, please direct any support questions to
[email protected].

Subject: AW: Kodo progress?
Hi James and Mike
This is the info I got last week from TechTrader:
Hi Christof,
Thanks for downloading and using Kodo.
We are planning on releasing a version of Kodo before the July 15th
deadline -
it may be a final beta version, but most likely it will be the
production
version. We'll announce the release plans on our JDO Announce listserv
(Just
send an email to [email protected] with "subscribe" as
the
subject).
We are planning on retailing Kodo at $700 per developer seat. However,
during a introductory promotion, we plan on selling Kodo for $299 /
developer
seat. Included in this price is 30 days email support and 30 days of
free
upgrades. There will be no run-time royalties.
Additional support / upgrade packs may be purchased for $500 for 1 year
of
email support and free upgrades.
Let me know if you have any questions. I've cc'd this email to our
sales
folks in case you'd like to follow-up with them.
Thanks and let us know if you have any additional questions.

Configuring kodo-jdo-2.5.3 with weblogic 8.1 using JCA
Hi there.
I am trying to configure kodo-jdo-2.5.3 in WebLogic 8.1 using JCA method.
The issue I got was that I got DB authentication failed. I have tested my
JDBC connect -- working fine, I have turned on JDBC log in WL, it looks
fine.
It looks like that KODO was still trying to create its own JDBC connection
even I have specified
<config-property>
<description>The JNDI name of the connection factory to use for
obtaining connections.</description>
<config-property-name>ConnectionFactoryName</config-property-name>
<config-property-type>java.lang.String</config-property-type>
<config-property-value>datasource.oracle9</config-property-value>
</config-property>
"datasource.oracle9" is the JNDI name of my data source.
The error message is the following. I will really appreciate your help.

Is there an easy way either to alter the calendar script or create something that will allow for variable text in each day of the year?
I am creating a calendar for a cattle rancher, and he wants to include a gestation calendar in the design.
So...instead of the Julian date on every caledar day, he would like to include the date that a calf will be born if the cow had been bred on a particular day. For example: On the calendar date, January 1, in that box, another smaller date will appear - 10/9, On January 2 - 10/10 and so on. But, I need this progression to continue throughout the whole year.
I have attempted to manually enter each date in a separate table and super impose it over the calendar, but this is very slow and very tedious. There has to be a faster way.
I am comfortable looking at code and can often times figure out which fields to change, but I am a bit lost on this one. Where do I start?
Please help!
Thanks! That helped, but still did not solve the "continous scroll" question.
I did however discover that if you go to Search and type in a "common" letter like "s", a Continuous List view will appear.
Any further help on how to do this as a default view would be appreciated from any and all.
Thanks for the help and for the link paulcb. -
Is it possible to see who has saved progress on a web form, but not submitted?
We are using FormsCentral for our application process, and we are allowing applicants to save forms. Is it possible to see who has started a web form, and saved it, but hasn't submitted yet? Maybe by cc'ing the email notificiation they get to an admin?
We'd like to see who is working on the applications, and also to send them a reminder that they need to complete and submit the form by the deadline.Hi;
No, there isn't a way for you to see anything about who has saved progress.
Thanks,

Error while configuring kodo to lookup a datasource
We had a working application using EEPersistenceManagerFactory
I changed the kodo.properties to lookup a non XA JDBC datasource.
After that the application is working fine (it creates
,updates,deletes,finds record in the DB)
but SystemOut.log has the following error for every operation
We are using Kodo 2.5.0, Websphere 5.0 and Oracle 8
How can we avoid getting this error ?.
We tried to find any property on the Websphere datasource which can be
altered to avoid this error but no luck.
Thanks

Paresh-
It looks like you are returning a collection of instances from an EJB,
which will cause them to be serialized. The serialization is happening
outside the context of a transaction, and Kodo needs to obtain a
connection. Websphere seems to not like that.
You have a few options:
1. Call makeTransientAll() on all the instances before you return them
from your bean methods
2. Manually instantiate all the fields yourself before sending them
back. You could use a bogus ObjectOutputStream to do this.
3. In 3.0, you can use the new detach() API to detach the instances
before sending them back to the client.

Not able to view activities in Progress Reporter
Hi,
Iam not able to see one activity (Status of act - In Progress) in Progress Reporter on which iam assigned as a resource in Project Management.
Moreover, please suggest what all projects we can see in Progress Reporter?
Is it dependent on Project status?
Thanks.Hi,
I am using P6.7 sp2 Progress Reporter. When we have a number of users trying to submit timesheets, we receive the following error in the group server and then activities are no longer displayed on timesheets.
Exception [EclipseLink-4002] (Eclipse Persistence Services - 1.1.0.r3639-SNAPSHOT): org.eclipse.persistence.exceptions.DatabaseException
Internal Exception: java.sql.SQLIntegrityConstraintViolationException: ORA-00001: unique constraint (PRIMA_PM.PK_USESSION) violated
The only way around this is to restart the group server.
Has anyone experienced this?
Thanks,

SCCM 2012 R2 Configuration Manager Client Package - stuck "In Progress"
Hi Team; I’m having 2 issues with SCCM 2012 R2:
Issue 1: I'm having a strange issue with the default XXX00002 package - "Configuration Manager Client Package",
it will not deploy to the Secondary Site DP. The console is saying "In Progress" - below is the output from the

Issue 2: I'm trying to deploy a couple of Packages/Applications using SCCM 2012 R2 running on Win2K8 R2 with no luck, knowing that I could install the packages
on a test VM “in the DataCenter site”, but when trying to deploy the packages to production PC “in the Office Site”,
the status is packages deployment compliance stuck at 0%
Infrastructure:
3 SCCM servers: CAS, PRI & SEC. Both CAS and PRI are in the DataCenter site, and SEC is in the Office site. The office site has several IP subnets.
Boundaries are configured through Forest Discovery “IP Ranges and AD Sites” since that the AD site should contain all the IP subnets that the AD site contains, Boundaries groups are also configured and a site reference
server is configured for each group respectively.
A OU based Collection has been configured that contains 13 PC "the collection contains the PCs that the packages should be installed.
Packages/Applications are configured correctly since that I could successfully deploy the packages to the test VM which is on the same subnet as the CAS and the PRI servers "the DataCenter subnet". The issue
is that I can't deploy the packages to production PCs in the Office subnet!
Firewall rules are configured and applied via GP, and I even turned Windows Firewall off, and still nothing! I tried to manually initiate Computer Policy download via the SCCM GUI and via a script, still no luck!
I tried configuring IP Subnet Boundaries, still no luck!!

Hello everybody,
I am absolutely a beginner in working with Captivate and furthermore my technological know how is not that good.
So, I have problems to understand if the export formats SWF and F4V are both capable to be published in the Internet as streaming video and as progressive Download? Well so, I do not really understand the difference between streaming and progessive download either?
Furthermore I was asking myself if this issue depends on how I imported flash videos (there are these two options) in my Captivate project during the production phase?
I would be very thankful for some helping information!
Greetings,
Mareike the beginnerWelcome to our community
I'm not certain I fully understand the differences myself, but will toss out what I believe to be true about the formats. Hopefully, if I'm incorrect in my bellief, someone with more definitive knowledge will chime in.
It was explained to me a couple of years back and is my understanding that "streaming" only applies to a video based format such as F4V, FLV and it doesn't apply to SWF. With SWF, you may specify a preload value. So when the SWF transmits from the web server to the PC, a certain percentage has to be received before play begins. But that's not streaming. It's preloading.
For streaming to occur, the web server establishes a communication channel between the server and the destination PC. This channel is monitored to see what speed is in use. Only enough information is then transmitted to be comfortable at that speed. If the speed improves during the connection, the server serves data at a faster rate. If the connection degrades, the information transmitted is also scaled back so as to accommodate the lower speed.
With SWF, after it has all been downloaded, a savvy user is able to poke around in their temporary internet files and save the SWF for play later. With streaming, this isn't possible because as the stream is viewed, it evaporates from memory.
Seriously hoping others will chime in here to confirm or deny this.
Cheers... Rick

As I read these various posts I see that blackberry users are innovative, demanding, creative, particular but effective smartphone users. However sometimes our frustration manifests in the typical comments such as:
Come on blackberry how the eff could you not include in the z10 "mypin" auto generation in sms. How the $hit do you think I invite most of my bbm contacts, not as many people are using blackberries you know so the email invite (yes it generates in email mode so you can simply copy and paste) is not as efficient any more. There i am done ranting
What if we knew blackberry's attentions were focused in this support forum, and through it they could make sure their updates meet the needs of their users? If bb'ers begin posting ideas within categories that would effectively cover all aspects from application/ interface adjustments to developments blackberry devices could effectively grow with the user. It is a beautifully reciprocal experience as companies/individuals will have free market research and power of change.
Companies and developers can simply calculate if they have a positive return on their investment of time, cost, resourcess and efforts. Whether it be a company who is interested in direct billing, a contract or advertising OR a customer is interested in attempting to impact a change. Both sides have a vested interest. People could see how many others potentially like their new ideas whether in be in the realm of functionality or applications. I have been told (and have read a bit) Linux systems are an awesome example of how ideas mixed with creativity, critique, feedback and passion drive the force that is innovation, which is amazing.
We have the opportunity to create what could include even more people now. As mobile technology spans the globe and should call for impeccable security, who better to afford you and your ideas both the collaberation potential with the luxury and security of the safest network in the business. Since the phone is complete as a unit superficially; shape and weight are perfect for a phone, 3.5 small buttons on the whold device, and perfect size screen for communication and visual needs, (also read my post on external battery charger.....bravo blackberry),there would only be a need for minor external and relative internal improvements as technology requires adaptation. Thank youAs I read these various posts I see that blackberry users are innovative, demanding, creative, particular but effective smartphone users.
Thus the only thing to really continue to work on is the interface and user experience.

How to monitor progress of web-service calculation? And abort it?
Hello. We're thinking of converting an existing Java radar calculation program into a web-service, so that it can be used by various interested parties. However, calculations can take some time (several minutes) and so we would like the client to be able to both show calculation progress and allow the user to abort the calculation if necessary. It is not obvious to us how to do this with a web-service. Are there any standard approaches to this problem? What's the best way of a client asking the web-service how a calculation is progressing? What's the best way for a client to abort a calculation? Any advice most welcomed.
Kind regards

The HagueYou can't estimate the duration withour running the gather_database_stats. You can monitor it while it is running. (e.g. count the tables that have got updated statistics based on DBA_TABLES)
And if you run gather_database_stats, the default behaviour might well be to exclude tables which aren't "stale" while in the imported database the expectation is to gather stats on all tables.
(Similarly, the behaviour to gather column histograms (method_opt) may differ in an existing database from a newly imported database)

How do I sync my progress between games on my iPad and iPhone?
I know it's trivial, but there are many games such as Jet Pack Joyride, Arm Cartel, and others that I've spent a lot of time playing on my iPhone; however, when I go to play these games on my iPad, I have had to restart from the very beginning even though I am logged into my Game Center account. Is there anyway to ensure that progress within games is synced between devices?
Not unless the app developer supports this.

Subject says it all.. and yes, I did search on this topic first.
My AE team gives me QT files all day long that are progressive (regardless of frame rate) and my timelines are 99% of the time progressive (even when working at 29.97 fps) but I have to manually change the Item Properties: Format... Field Dominance on every clip before I cut them into my timeline.
I hope this is something totally obvious that I am missing, I checked my preferences for a default interpretation, not seeing it.I just tried this on my FCP7 system.
Opening 1440x1080P sequence I dropped in a SD AE movie that was rendered without fields. It comes into FCP as lower but that's easily changed in the column shortcut to none.
The fact that FCP wants it to be lower might be from a flag in the SD or DV codec, not in the physical nature of the frames. Doesn't seem to matter in the timeline on my machine though, since there are no fields in the AE movie, FCP is not trying to create them, the file plays as progressive.

Help needed please, everytime I try to update the software version on my iphone it comes up with a message saying it could not be completed and is now frozen with the apple picture and progress bar on it. Do I unplug it and hope the macbook pro sees it again, I also stupidly did not back up before starting the download which I realise I will have to go back to the previous back up. This keeps happening, everytime I do this type of update, I'm starting to think I should just give up on updating my software on the Iphone. I thought it was happening because I was using a window based computer to do the updates, this time I used my Macbook Pro. Please somebody help

How do you use the status column to show progress of a step in an OI?
Hi everyone,
I was just doing a little browsing and noticed the picture at the top of the http://www.ni.com/teststand/ web page. It shows a progress bar in the status column of a step being executed.
I have several applications where this would be a very useful addition. I use the progress bar at the bottom of the OI and sequence editor regularly, but would very much like to show progress of an individual step in the status column. It would be particularly useful where you turn the tracing off into a sequence but want to see that progress is being made through the steps within it...
Anyone know how to do this? I have been unsuccessful in trying to find examples....
Cheers,
BarryJames,
I believe your answer to Bazza's question also applies to my situation, but I wasn't sure so I thought I would ask. I am working on a custom TestStand operator interface in LabVIEW using the UI controls. I would like it to behave as closely as possible to the old Test Executive. Specifically, I would like the operator to be able to see the contents of the sequence file, interact with them, and see the execution results all in the same view. Is that possible? In other words, can I display and interact with a sequence file (display the sequence steps, run selected steps, loop selected steps, etc.) and display the sequence's execution results (including tracing) in the same SequenceView control or do I have to use 2 of them?
Thanks,
Ryan Wright
